    I accidentally called Bayleef "Quilava" . I hope you can forgive me.
    Also since I'm getting a lot of comments about it! Regigigas can't learn Protect in this game. Look at the TM list at the start of the video, it's not on there. Trust me, if it was an option I'd be using it. I do agree that drain punch would have really helped though, I should have tracked down a heart scale and got it back for that fight, but it didn't come to mind at the time.

      @@arcangelgutierrez88 Nope! Honestly, what's the point? People accuse me of doing that sometimes, but it doesn't make any sense. I guess I'm flattered that people find it more believable that I'd intentionally get something wrong than me genuinely messing up, but nope. When there's a mistake, it's just a mistake.
      There's no point in making a mistake to get people to comment when people will comment regardless. That's what the fossil gag is for. A 100% transparent gag where I literally announce that it's good for the algorithm.

Leftovers tends to out-perform Shell Bell overall, but this is a weird battle to math out.

    Edit: Forgot Protect was added to Regigigas's movepool in a later gen.
    New strategy, get Drain Punch back from the move relearner. Equip the Black Belt you get from the Lake of Rage on Wednesdays. I did the calc, it should be a roll to KO after Volt Tackle recoil. We're still dependent on a focus blast miss or Snorlax coming out next, but the extra healing from the extra damage should balance out the lack of leftovers.
    Old:
    Replacing Substitute with Protect probably would've helped just a bit with the final Red fight. But you'd still want to keep retrying until you got another Focus Blast miss. Protect -> Attack (OHKO Pikachu) -> Protect -> Focus Blast Miss -> Protect gets you out of Slow Start. Hopefully you'd have enough strength to get through the rest of the fight. Keep Leftovers to heal off Hail damage.
    Keeping Drain Punch around probably would've helped. Potentially even getting rid of Dizzy Punch during the mid-game and getting Return for the late game. Ideal final setup wold probably be Return, Drain Punch, Protect and Thunder Punch/Ice Punch. Though with max Friendship Return does more than either punch moves against Charizard/Blastoise/Venusaur. Maybe Zen Headbutt for Venusaur, but I don't want to add any more luck to the fight if we're going for a Focus Blast.

    Probably received a dozen comments about it already, but there's two things you could've done to make Red a little easier.
    1. Keep Drain Punch. Even if it's only super effective against Snorlax and Lapras, that thing will still heal you quite a bit. It could even heal you a ton on Pikachu despite Slow Start. With Leftovers as your held item, Drain Punch to heal + for Snorlax and Lapras, Thunder Punch for Blastoise and Charizard, Ice Punch for Venusaur, and Return for good neutral damage, you may have done it.
    2. If you change the date on your compu- I MEAN, your *_totally real and very existent Nintendo DS._* Anyways, if you change the date to either October 10th or December 31st, then the weather on top of Mt. Silver won't be hail. It'll be a completely unique weather condition called "diamond flurry". The cool thing about diamond flurry is not only the fact that it doesn't hurt you like hail, it also won't make Blizzard 100% accurate. And that would make Leftovers heal you rather than just fighting off the hail damage.

    Was screaming "USE PROTECT!" at the top of my voice....
    Alternate between Protect and attacking. Keep Thunderpunch to deal with Blastoise, and Charizard, re-teach Drain Punch for more healing vs Snorlax and Lapras, and Dizzy Punch for Venusaur.
    Rework your EVs to maximize HP and Attack if that's an option, and use PP Ups for Dizzy and Drain Punch, and Protect. This is gonna be a fun ride:
    Vs Pikachu start with Protect, then hit Drain Punch. We're testing ranges. If it KO'es it, then great. If not, then it should be on red HP forcing out a heal item. Drain Punch again the next turn, then Protect, followed by Drain Punch. That's 5 turns, and you got your act together. Now if you do get the KO on Pikachu on turn 2 with Drain Punch, alternate between Protect and Punch for the next Pokemon. It's best if you can get rid of Slow Start vs the Pikachu since it can't really threaten to KO you (bar a crit) but you have to work around the Static. If you manage to get that, then the fight should be a breeze. You COULD theoretically gamble for a double protect as well if you're feeling adventurous.
    Hope this helps!

    Trick Room reverses the speed order, causing slower Pokemon to take their actions before faster ones (assuming same priority). It's the gimmick of this gym, rather than focusing on a specific Pokémon type.

    drain punch + a muscle band to keep your hp up and give your other moves a little more damage. Maybe a chesto resto strat to cure para from pikachu and stall out turns for slow start too. Other options include relearning knock off to remove pikachu's light ball to reduce its damage output and stalling it out with rest without chesto. You could have taught mud slap to lower pikachu's accuracy. Regigigas gets rock polish for some unknowable reason, so that might have been an out to your poor speed at the start of the fight.

    Since you mentioned it at 20:32, Trick Room reverses the turn order! Slow Pokémon will go first, fast Pokémon will go last! Priority moves will still go earlier, so you can still go first with a Quick Attack or last with a Roar.

  • @frankyquilavafireblast895
    @frankyquilavafireblast895 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Trick room is a five term move that inverts the speeds of all Pokémon on the field.
    So the slowest Pokémon would go first, where the fastest Pokémon would then go last.
    There is a way to manipulate the last fight. There are specific days of the year where hail is turned into a phenomenon known as diamond dust, which is affectively snowy conditions, so that’s one way to avoid damage.

    MDBAMA (or MDB AMA) - if you could choose any piece of media (game, movie, tv show, song/album, etc) that you have already consumed and forget everything you experienced with it so you could experience it again as though for the very first time again, what would you choose?

    Sucks that Regigigas doesn't get Protect until Gen 8, that's so weird
    And yea, as many others have said already, I'm surprised you got rid of Drain Punch at all. Once you got any of the elemental punches, I thought Foresight and Dizzy Punch would be the next moves to go since you had a move to hit Ghost types
    But no worries! Love your content, so I'm always here to watch (and one of the only youtubers that I don't skip the sponsor section for)

    I feel like there's definitely a strategy here with regigigas, like I'm not sure if you tried sub spam at higher levels, also I don't think focus blast missing is really that rare, I call it focus miss a lot because of 70% accuracy,. But I know time is a very limited resource so fully get just didn't want to beat your head against one fight, either way, fun run!

    The Gastly line's level-up moveset was famously devoid of non-Ghost damaging moves for quite some time; I think it still would've been like that in Gen 4 which is why all of them just kept trying to status your sub. They can't hit Normal types.

    Trick Room reverses the speed order so that the moves in their respective priority orders goes by slower Pokemon moving first until next 4 turns. Machamp was supposed to be slower than you but because of Trick Room it moved first and broke your substitute with dynamic punch

  • @qinaxin7107

    Also trick room is a move that for a few turns (around 5 I think) the slower pokemon goes first. So the first fight against blue you said Machamp was faster, it actually wasn't but because Trick room was up it went first due to being slower.

    When Blastoise misses the focus blast it is the opening to waste more turns with Substitute and get rid of slowstart. Also if you had drain punch you probably would be better off here. So try Pikachu, reset when you get paralyzed, Blastoise comes out, always press Substitute and reset if he hits focus blast. Return instead of dizzy punch and drain punch instead of Ice Punch. Return for Venasaur. I think that could work, just dont know if switching AI still sends out snorlax at 3rd with the changed moveset

  • @fabgassie

    It might be just a little thing, but especially with it effectively ignoring Leftovers recovery, if you change the date of your DS to October 10th (or December 31th?), the hail on Mt. Silver will be replaced with 'Diamond Dust', which means that in battle there will be no Hail damage. Also gives the Blizzard users an extra 30% chance to miss, doesn't hurt either.

    A challenge I really want to see one of you guys do "Can you beat all the pokemon generations with the same team traded along?" So you'd get a team from Pokemon red/blue or yellow and once you beat it you trade all those mons into the next game and beat that. Then you repeat until you beat all the games!

  • @rancorrage5646
    @rancorrage5646 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Red fight is absolutely doable. Even ignoring Return vs Dizzy Punch, you could have easily stalled out Slow Start with Protect, Leftovers, and maybe Drain Punch if you'd kept it.
    Also, Focus Blast only has 70% accuracy. Everyone calls it Focus Miss for a reason.
    Still a cool run!

    • @vaporeonice3146
      @vaporeonice3146 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Regigigas can’t learn Protect in Gen 4, and Hail keeps you from getting Leftovers recovery. It might be doable if you, say, set up Sunny Day against Blastoise and it misses several Focus Blasts in a row, but I think it would be REALLY difficult either way.

    Something I would like to see in HG/SS runs with stage one Pokémon is, if the Red figtht proves impossible, to evolve them and check how the evolution would have fared in that one battle, without risking a redundant middle stage run or a thrilless-until-red final stage one.
