  • This may not be the most efficient way of doing this, but I could not find a more helpful video. This procedure is based on my reading and studying of other coolant changes.

    That place under that Chrome cover on the side where you're saying is the coolant level is actually the rear brake fluid level

      I was like did this dude just put radiator fluid in the rear brake filler 😳

    By no means a "professionally" produced, but that is what gives this video it's charm. I love the husband and wife team aspect, as well. Most importantly, I learned some new things watching this (I have the same bike, but a '96). Thank you both so much! 👍

    Thanks much for posting! I'm bringing a 98 VT1100T back to life (its out of the ICU at this point, running, idling. Carbs rebuilt and balanced, oil and final drive oil changed out), and I was going to change out the coolant. The procedure in my shop manual says to pull the drainage bolt from the water pump housing, but there were two of them. Your video clarified that for me. Thanks again

    Perfect, thank you for the video, just did my 1985 VT750C, it was exactly the same procedure.
    I ended up using a coolant specific for Asian vehicles, it was cheap and had no silicates or phosphates.

    OK. But how does one remove the hidden plastic phillips-head screw of the plastic cover without removing the tank? One of the screws is located under the gas tank...Talk to me Chief.

  • @dennisl6198
    @dennisl6198 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a 95 shadow 1100, and I couldn't find the coolant drain, so i just removed the feed hose to the water pump...same difference. also, OAT coolant means its all organic, no phosphates or sulphites. finally, i still had to remove the gas tank to remove the side plate because the screw is under there. finally, and so nobody is confused when they can't follow these directions perfectly--- the shadow ace wasn't made until 2000. so this bike is alot newer than what the title says.

    can you see the coolant circulating inside the radiator cap like you can on a car it's an easy way to know it you thermostat is opening and your pump is circulating?

    I noticed that when you put the new coolant in the spout, you do not have a plastic shield or shroud covering the coolant spout. I have a '97 shadow vt1100c. It has the plastic shield. In order to put coolant in the tank, I have to remove the seats, remove the gas tank, and remove the plastic shroud. A lot of work to get fluid in the radiator.

    • @bcburdoa
      @bcburdoa  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, the plastic shielding is not secured by screws or bolts, but barbed plastic rivets. So yes, you can remove the seat, the tank, and the shielding. That is actually what the recommended procedure is. However, you can cheat by just reaching behind the shielding and popping the rivets out. That allows access to the radiator cap, but you need a long or flexible funnel. After you're done just pop the shielding back on. Gtg! Ride safe bro!

    I'm pretty happy with my 95 VT 1100 Classic Ace. Not as powerful as I thought 4 and 1100 but I think that's because of the shaft drive. I read that you lose 33% out of your shaft drive. I don't give a shit the shaft drive should last forever if you change the fluid. Less pain in the ass

    Make sure you use the right antifreeze or you will destroy your gaskets yes even your head gaskets. Make sure you use distilled water or you will have a chamical reaction.

    oh my gosh you have to use motorcycle specific antifreeze! It will burn the pump up. And the clutch will slip!

    • @christianhodges685
      @christianhodges685 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All Terrain Experiments you only need coolant that is silicate free, it doesn't have to be motorcycle specific. You're thinking of oil, which DOES need to be motorcycle specific otherwise the anti friction additives will cause the clutch to slip.
