  • In this episode we use Rock Oil's Coolant to show you how easy it is to do yourself.
Please visit www.Rockoil.co.uk to purchase the coolant.
Kool by name Kool by nature!
Over the years Rock Oil has a huge involvement in all aspects of motorsport, with multiple championship successes and over 75 years experience, this experience is not only with oils but other lubricants and cleaners too!
Rock Oils engine coolant has been developed with the same `dedication` and `desire to win` as with their oils such as the `Synthesis` range. Suitable for racing and road use `Kool` offers total protection from -38 degrees C to normal operating temperatures over 170 degrees C. The unique properties of `Kool` offer outstanding stability even under the most extreme conditions, whilst inhibiting corrosion and protecting the whole cooling system from radiator to water pump!
    Available Size - 1Ltr
Coolant (a mixture of water and antifreeze) is pumped around the engine and cools it down by means of the radiator. If the level of coolant gets too low, it can cause overheating and serious damage. The coolant should be renewed every two to five years.

Having seen all that crap in the overflow bottle and the blocked outlet I can guarantee you that the hoses and the radiator are full of the same stuff.
Would have flushed it with distilled water and vinegar a few times personally before filling it up with new coolant.
Also let the bikes fans kick in and you should see new coolant in the overflow reservoir, you might not need to fill it up and by doing it cold, when the coolant warms up and expands you put too much pressure on the system if there is too much coolant in there

Rather than just cleaning the over flow tank you should always (after draining old coolant) add 50%disstilled water n 50% white vinigar and run enging for 2-5mins. this cleans out all th mess inside the cooler n tubes just like the over flow tank.
Then step 3 add just distilled water n run for 2-5mins again to clean out any last bit of mess n vinigar.
Then Step4 after draining again add your final coice of coolant. leave for a couple of hours and recheck levels. Then after running again quickly leave for 1+hour again and check if air pocketc in ssystem being eli

Shouldn't you flush the system with a garden hose or distilled water before filling it up so that you are not mixing new with old coolant?

yeah bro,i empty half a cup then put dishwasher liquid in it start and idle bike for 5 mins then drain by taking off radiator hose let it cool then grip garden hose with radiator one and blast it through works great on any kind of engine, this guys a amateur noob who btw sounds so dismal.

+stewedapple You can do if you like but once you pull the drain plug (on the lowest part of the engine) very little if any would be left in the bike. And you should be using DISTILLED water in the bike NOT tap water as this contains limescale which corrodes alloy over time and blocks the engine with the limescale particles. Hope that helps

That cooling system had obviously been neglected by the previous owner so I wouldn't have trusted the radiator and block to be clean.
I would want to see clean, unobstructed water flowing from every component so an extra 5 minutes with a garden hose and a couple of disconnected pipes would put my mind at ease.

    • @ChasingSalvage
      @ChasingSalvage  8 ปีที่แล้ว

yes you can do that but i cant be seen to film coolant going over the floor,, tree huggers will be after me. You can also back flush the radiator as well.

+Motorbike Repairs Just don't film it going on the floor then.👍☺️

Thats why you take the DRAIN PLUG OUT FIRST THEN RADIATOR CAP OR YOU GET IT ALL OVER YOU!!!

    Hi,
The tube at the top is the overflow pipe, and the other pipe at the bottom will connect to the rad cap area, follow it and you will see.The expansion tank will suck/blow the coolant from that bottle iirc.Keep the bottle filled at the correct level as well.
    Hope that helps.

This is how NOT to change your coolant, no flush out, no engine run with an acid like say vinegar, this is for riders who dont really care about their bikes and just want to basically get by.

Hi mate, thanks for this vid cause I've been having cooling problems with my zx6r f2. I just wanted to ask if the tube on top of the expansion tank should connect to anywhere or if its just open in case of overflow.
I don't understand how the expansion bottle feeds the radiator aswell as take fluid out all using 1 pipe?

Looked and felt like limesescale to me when i had cleaned it out,, But yes it can also be this on some bikes.. Always best to clean in out if you are doing a coolant flush imo.
