    I'm a .40 guy, to me the .45 is boring and doesn't do well from short barrels (and how many "small" .45's are there since the XDS is now defunct?) and the 9mm is okay, but having shot them all, to me the .40 is the sweet spot. It carries better than the .45 the guns are still small and it hits hard, notably harder than 9mm.

    I currently go back and forth between my 1911 in .45 and CZ 75B in 9mm since I shoot them the best, and they're the slimmest of my pistols in common calibers. If I need to be sneaky, I have a .327 Magnum revolver in my pocket and two reloads for each handgun. If I need more than that, either I've made some seriously bad choices, or life has a major problem with me.
    That being said, I have carried a variety of chamberings, depending on what I owned and what I could conceal practically at the time, figuring that being able to get rounds on target is more significant than the caliber wars.

XDM-E does have 3 grip adaptor rear fits. Ive got really small hands so the #1 fits me perfectly. I live in bear central Alaska, been attacked 5 times, 3 up close, too close to bring my 45/70 into play. The 10 is taking over up here & the 2 favorites are the glocks & Springfields. When i tried it out in the gunstore the XDM-E just flew up perfectly aligned & the new trigger is amazing. I only shoot hot loads, practice what im going to be using. Tried the gen 5 glock & its new ergonomics & trigger wasnt bad at all but it still didnt line up as well for me. ( Really small hand curse) Due to the cost of the Underwoods & worse yet Buffalo Bore bear hardcasts i started loading my own 200 grain Berry double plate up to 1244 fps avg & am IMPRESSED! Amazing accuracy. Use an old, thick metal propane bottle & all easily punch through the front but non out the back. The hardcasts simply turn to dust on entry but the Berrys hold together put a big dent in the back. Only slug that makes a hole in the back were the extream penetrators. Didnt go through but almost. Knocked the screwdriver tip flat but retained 85% of its initial weight. Im pretty sure in bear the berrys slugs wont flatten out much if at all. WAY cheaper!! Ive heard the glocks need a stronger spring too for the hot stuff but cant personally verify that. 22-24 lb recoil spring. I liked my 1st XDM-E so much i got 2 more. 3.8 & 2, 4.5s. total. Ive run close to 500 rounds through 1 4.5 & only had 1 FTF. One of my handloads. The other 2 are still in their boxes. One for each son. My son timed me at 15 yards. 1.2 seconds for 2 double taps point shooting. 5 inch circle w the 220 Underwood hardcasts. Similar w the B.B. 200 grain but thoes suckers were all over the place. Different recoil impulse. With my 200 grain Berrys shrank the 5 inch to a 4 inch on my better days. Was using a low leg drop holster but have since switched to a front carry chest rig & its WAY BETTER.

    Weekend at the range and I discovered that of all my calibers at 10 yards (.380, 9mm, .40, .45) all hit inside the 8×8 square target. 50 rounds or better each and the worst was the lcp max which put center 2 inches low left.
    Every one is a carry firearm for me with the max the most often and the 1911 the least. Biggest determination for me?... concealeabilty and weight.
    My favorite to shoot? The 1911.
    My least? The Max, with the G17 and G22 tying for 2nd.

    I did the math at one point. Using Glocks as a control. 40S&W is the best for capability, 9mm is the best with cost included as a factor. By a pretty small margin. For a given standard carry loadout, 40S&W allows you to carry more energy. My carry is a M&P 9mm. I carry one 15 rounder in the pistol and a 23 in a knife pouch. Note that, while I found 40 to be mathematically superior, I still carry 9mm. Why? I can't justify the ammo costs for 40. I do have a Beretta 96 and love it, but I only keep a case on hand. Whereas 9mm, I keep a case of Gold Dot, and I lots of training ammo.

    In sub compact pistols, 9mm is the king. In full size pistols, with hst's and a few others, the 45 is the best of those three and imo, the best overall of any semi auto cartridge when everything is factored in. Velocity and foot pounds don't mean much with handguns. It is the penetration and overall expansion that determines the damage done. Handguns, short of the 357 mag with 125 gr 'screamer' loads don't do stretch cavities...and even then it is probably marginal at best in real life. The 45 with good hp's expands to ≈1 inch and with standard pressure rounds can penetrate real gel and 4 layers of denim to 16+inches. You can do that with a 10mm, but with 3x the noise, 2x the recoil and 3x the wear on the gun... however you get about 30% more rounds in the mag...

    Any healthy adult man can increase hand, wrist and forearm strength to be able to shoot large caliber guns accurately. It just takes time, practice and proper training. So then the next most important requirement in a bullet is its power which translates to-How fast does it make the body lose blood. None tbh 357sig is ballistically superior and the GOAT 🐐 with 45acp +p being a close 2nd

    • @Valorius
      @Valorius หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      9mm+P+ is so close to 357 sig that it just doesn't justify the extra cost or reduction in ammo capacity or firearm choices.

      @kevinrichardson8859 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Valorius 9mm +p+ doesn't come within 150fps or 200fps of a full power 357sig....and with any 9mm+p+ anything you are NOT within SAAMI specs and with even the slightest setback round you risk a case rupture or worse blowing your barrel and gun up...357sig guns are built to withstand the 40k psi pressures all day...if you feel the need to add a bunch of pluses (+) move up to a bigger gun like 40sw or even better 357sig or 10mm

      135 gr, 1,600 ft/sec or 155 gr, 1,500 ft/sec Underwood in my 3.6" SA 10mm is pretty much king ballistically for a great every day carry piece. 125 gr 357 sig can't quite keep up.

    Handguns especially small ones offer only slightly different "damage" or "stopping power". If you have one that is comfortable to wear and you shoot well dont worry about anything else trying to fill that role.

  • @wastool

    Easy answer, 9mm. The caliber wars are over, 9mm won. The guns are small, the ammo's cheap, the recoil is low, the capacity is high, and it will take down everything from a squirrel to a moose. Anything which has an advantage in any one area is just splitting hairs in the preform edge it offers and it will fall short in other areas. Yes, I have seen a moose killed by 9mm fired from a Glock 26.
    In very niche scenarios it does make sense to carry a different caliber, such as an area with a magazine capacity restriction.

    1195 from a 3" Nano.....stock is 1150 from 4" and 1200 +p from 4" so that does not make sense... super old round & extra pp or what...chrono off just checked chrono in article on 4 115 loads not as fast as that...BIGGER is more Tissue Crush...NOT true on the Penetration either CLEAR Ballistics makes 9mm pen WAY farther because less dense in ratio to caliber etc....Organic Gel does not.

      In the same media 9mm hst and 45 hst, 9mm penetrates deeper. Organic gel isn’t part of the equation if I’m using the same media for both.
