  • It's time for episode 5 of Ahsoka (aka Star Wars Rebels Season 5). Rosario Dawson is back as the titular jedi (or technically not a jedi anymore) Ahsoka Tano and is joined by the live action counterparts of characters that we grew to love (and hate) in Rebels as well as some new ones. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Hera Syndulla, Natasha Liu Bordizzo is Sabine Wren, David Tennant is Huyang, Ray Stevenson is Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno is Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto reprises here role in The Mandalorian as Morgan Elspeth, Lars Mikkelsen is the quietly intimidating Grand Admiral Thrawn and Hayden Christensen as the legendary Anakin/ Darth Vader.
Also, if you want to watch our full, uncut reaction to Ahsoka you can join our Patreon https:www.Patreon.com/JabyKoay or join our memberships on TH-cam. Additionally, we have Andrew and Achara's reaction to Rebels there as well :)

Ahsoka's journey in the World Between Worlds is about her being emotionally... stuck. She's spent the last several years holding on to her resentment of the Jedi Order, her guilt over what happened to Anakin, and her fear that her legacy was nothing but war, pain, and death. She wasn't dead but she wasn't really LIVING. It's what was keeping her from effectively teaching Sabine.
That's why her finally saying, "I choose to live." is important. She's choosing to stop being stuck in the past and move forward with her life.

She is also afraid of passing on the legacy of Vader's training as she saw how such a powerful Jedi he was (her as well by him) and what it could lead to if it went wrong. It was such a healing lesson to not give up both to the dark side and not on herself because he taught her to be better than himself.

Not many reactors talk about the lesson that Anakin was giving Ahsoka here.
They instead think this is just a fanservicey Anakin vs Ahsoka fight with no major consequence other than the spectacle of it.
Anakin's main goal here was this: to help Ahsoka face her inner demons and to help her defeat them. To help her overcome her trauma.
Ahsoka up to that point was living a life traumatized by her past.
She felt responsible for the deaths of all the Clone Troopers under her command.
That is why the "flashbacks" focus on two events: one of her first missions during the Clone Wars. When she refused to follow Anakin's orders and as a result, many troopers perished.
The other flashback focused on the Seige of Mandalore. Where Ahsoka was feeling overwhelmed with the responsability of having so many troopers' lives on the line.
Anakin took her there to remind her that she did the best she could. And to remind her that there were no other options that would produce a better outcome. So her feelings of guilt were misplaced.
Another major traumatic experience was Ahsoka's belief that she was responsible for Anakin turning to the Darkside.
She felt that she abandoned him when he was the most vulnerable.
Ahsoka was having difficulty separating Anakin from Vader. That is why he keeps seeing Vader instead of Anakin. Because Vader represents a failure that she feels personally responsible for.
Anakin was determined to show her that Vader was not him anymore. And that he was long gone. The good side had won.
So that's what the fight was about. To show her that Anakin was not Vader and that she was stronger than Vader. An entity entirely fueled by rage and sadness.
So when Ahsoka beats Vader, Anakin (no longer in his Vader persona) smiles. Because he knows that Ahsoka has finally beaten one of her biggest demons. She understands now that Vader is no more and that Anakin has risen from its ashes. And is now teaching her a life lesson.
Again, this lesson was never an ego trip for Anakin. This lesson was all about helping his padawan overcome her feelings of regret and guilt.
Which would allow her to finally live for real. Instead of just "existing" as she did before. She was now, fully alive both spiritually and physically.

After seeing Ahsoka having a moment of catharsis with her master, and letting go of her guilt and pain to more fully embrace the Light Side, Rosario Dawson now truly has become the Ahsoka we remember from Clone Wars!
I loved how this episode showed more of the fact that Ahsoka was sadly both a Jedi AND a child soldier. What’s more is that while while the Jedi were taught to not form attachments to people, she and her master clearly broke that rule and cared for not just their men but their friends and family. The difference is that while Anakin failed and fell to the Dark Side because he couldn’t let go of those he loved, Ahsoka succeeded and learned to let go and move on while still willing to form attachments. She has now truly risen and has now become tied with Luke Skywalker for me as the greatest Jedi of all time.
This is also easily the best performance Hayden has ever given as Anakin, he actually felt more like Anakin from the Clone Wars than the movies. I honestly never thought I would see LIVE ACTION scenes of Clone Wars, or even Hayden in Anakin’s Clone Wars armor!

Ahsoka fears the very thing that brought Anakin down. Attachment. She cares for Sabine and that emotion could push her to the Dark Side, out of fear of losing her. That's why she stopped training her. That's also why she wouldn't train Grogou.

As someone with more than 20 years in the Chinese Wudang school I can offer the sense that Ahsoka needed to step into her own mastery and a big part of that requires a deep emotional cleansing, releasing emotional baggage... and the only person who could guide her through that would be her master.
    Lineage is a living thing.

Closure for Ashoka. She never finished her training, she didn't see eye to eye with the Jedi, she left the order, her master became the sith lord, and she accepted she would die when fighting him but Ezra saved her.
She needed to confront those issues. Accept Anakin taught more and was more than death and destruction. She needed to face him as Vader and choose not to fear the worse but choose to live and embrace the force.
    Level Up for Ahsoka Tano

That move Ahsoka used on dark Anakin is similar with what she did when she fought Maul with no light sabers. She used his aggression against him. This is a follow up to the Mortis gods Arc. Ahsoka is now the white (daughter) Anakin had not yellow eyes but the red eyes of the ( brother) but also balances the light and the dark like the (father). Which is what the father wanted all along.

Anakin: Ahsoka, within you will be everything I am. All the knowledge I possess. Just as I inherited knowledge from my Master and he from his. You're part of a legacy.
Ahsoka: But my part of that legacy is one of death and war.
Anakin: But you're more than that, because I'm more than that (more than my mistakes, more than Vader).
Ahsoka: You are more, Anakin. But more powerful and dangerous than anyone realized.
Anakin: Is that what this is about? (You are afraid of becoming me?)
Ahsoka: If I am everything you are… (how do I avoid making your mistakes? our mistakes cost lives, doesn't that bother you?)
Anakin: You've learned nothing. Back from the beginning.

Hera was connected to Kanan, she could hear him through the force, that connection to the force passed through Kanan, through Hera, into their son. That’s why Hera can hear into the force, through Jacen. Hera knows Jacen is force sensitive, that’s why she brought him. If you need to find a Jedi, you use someone connected to the force to do it. Anakin was trying to teach Ahsoka the final lesson, she can’t control everything and just because he trained her, his destiny is not her destiny. He was the light and dark side of the force and he made choices, bad choices, but she didn’t have to make those same choices. Anakin wanted her to choose life, but because she wanted it for herself. Being a Jedi means you exist in service, but I think Anakin was trying to tell Ahsoka, you also have to live a life for yourself, that maybe the Jedi got it wrong, the very attachments they condemned, are what saved his soul, the love for his son and daughter is what saved him. This episode was outstanding. Imagine Freddie Prince junior as a force ghost of Kanan 😍😍😍😍, with Feloni, all things are possible….oh one other thing, if you wanted your kid to be safe, you’d leave him with the number one killing droid in all of Star Wars, Chopper is a murderbot.

I think part of the lesson Anakin had for Ahsoka was to complete her training. Not in combat but to teach. What all masters teach their apprentice. How to teach the next generation. It’s what he never had the chance to do, because she walked away and he fell to the Dark Side. Also probably why Ahsoka struggled training Sabine.

The live action hammers home a point that the animated TCW put in front of us, but it really sticks here seeing a live action teenager Ahsoka in a war zone: the Jedi were fielding child soldiers, in command positions where their orders had life/death consequences.
Animation sometimes creates a disconnect, so showing glimpses of the Clone Wars here was important.
Even if the Jedi hadn't been all but wiped out by Order 66, they were going to have problems, as they had an entire generation that was going to have issues to address. We saw a fraction of that with Barriss' fall.

I think the most we will see of Kanan is possibly Ezra seeing a wolf in the distance staring at him. Unfortunately, Freddie Prince Jr has consistently kept Star Wars at arms length and said he isn't interested in returning. While he could just be saying this to throw us off, not every Jedi becomes a full on force ghost. Obi learned it from Yoda & Obi taught Anakin in the moment as he was dying. It was established in Kenobi that you have to train to see force ghosts.. Luke could only see Obi because the planet they were on was very in tune with the force

I don't think that's the world between worlds. I believe it's the cosmic force.
Ahsoka is having a near death experience
If you remember rebels Ahsoka vs. Vader she was ready to die with him and Ezra had to save her.
And all the trauma of the clone wars she experienced as well. She feels like she hadn't done anything but killing.

It wouldn't make much sense to hurt or kill her because it wouldn't be a lesson then. Of course, he was going easy on her. He needed to see her fighting spirit at first and determine if she was willing to fight to survive. Then, at the end, he just gave her vader because she said she was worried about becoming the same thing. He needed her to overcome his darker side, so he allowed her to get the upper hand. She would never survive a real fight with him. Go back and watch rebels, Ezra saved her the last time.

Anakin and Vader are one, but in the end the light (Anakin) won out, so he is both (balance) with Anakin as primary with the knowledge of both. Ahsoka was frozen, unable to progress in the force and become the Master she should be out of fear of becoming like Anakin. Anakin/Vader helped her see and choose wisely, without fear. Making her the "White Jedi" and Master she was destined to be and the Galaxy needs.

I wouldn't worry too much about not getting the message. It's the biggest shortcoming of the episode IMO because Filoni just used vague dialogue and left a lot of the intended meaning in subtext for fans to interpret and work out for themselves. I think it would have worked better if they had a longer conversation on it instead of just using duels to hash out the problem, although I suppose it was a very Anakin approach to teaching her that lesson.

  • @themeparkamusement2214

She lost the fight with Baylon and would likely lose again because Baylon used Don Moch to tapped into her mind like he did Sabin. He knew all about Ahsoka but she knew nothing about him. He used her guilt of being a Killer against her. Anakin had to teach her that she became what she did because the time called for it, and the time now calls for it again. Kill or be killed. Chose to live or chose to die. When Ahsoka fought Darth Maul they both used Don Moch on each other. Dooku liked to use it as well.

  • @firecat4529

8:48 Btw, did you know that according to “Bespin Bulletin” there was a fight scene shot between Anakin (as Hayden Christensen) and Ahsoka (as Savannah Steyn instead of Ariana Greenblatt, at least for that scene) on Mustafar in an alternate-reality-like setting during the "world-between-world like" moments, which they said was cut from the actual episode? In that scene Anakin would have showed her that she couldn't have changed his fate to become Vader even if she were there at that point, which would have taken away a lot of her guilt of her not having been there and not being able to save him, resulting in the now more light-hearted Ahsoka. They cut that scene, maybe cause it wasn't really a memory and/or cause Anakin's message/lesson was a different one? Though I still hope they would release it as a separate video on YT or sth like that, cause I would really like to see what that scene (and Savannah Steyn as Ahsoka) would have looked like and it also explains a bit better imo why Ahsoka is more enlightened and happy at the end.

I think the lesson was Ahsoka needed/needs to evolve and find her own version of being a Jedi instead of avoiding attachments becuz of fear of becoming anakin. Anakin wasnt just Vader he was alot of things as Ahsoka was/will be many things. Fear will lead u down the path u are trying to avoid so trust in thr force and life as best u can.

Throughout all the training ahsoka's been through it's a simple thing of walking away from the fight or the war in this instance she chose to be the light side of the force you don't need a label as a Jedi not saying in the future so decide to be a Jedi master it's just choosing light or dark long-winded message but with a simple answer great job you two

This might he Ahsoka’s show, she might have had the most screen time, but this was Anakin’s episode, Anakin’s story.
And let’s be clear. This was not a vision. This was not a projection of Ahsoka’s memory. This WAS Anakin. This episode was the culmination of Anakin Skywalker’s journey. We didn’t even realize it, but Return of the Jedi didn’t complete Anakin. In RotJ we saw Vader “die” and Anakin be reborn. But it didn’t complete Anakin. It just… ended there. Here we see reborn Anakin fully embrace his role as the Chosen One. He moved between the Light and Dark sides of the Force at will as the circumstances require. He is the embodiment of the Living Force. This is exactly what Qui Gon taught Obi Wan in Phantom Menace. That the Living Force pulls us through the past and future, in order to focus us on the moment.
This is Anakin ascendant. This is the most powerful we’ve seen ever Anakin. He has truly become the Chosen One, balanced between the Force. He has melded the two halves of his soul, Vader and Skywalker, together. This is Anakin, as he should have been.

Anakin and Ashoka both have seen suffering and have had to bear the weight of fear ,guilt, anger, and disappointment. Awaking was consumed by it and turned to the dark side. Ashoka is slipping because of what she carries and is imbalanced. She has to let go so she can move forward or risk becoming as he became, which is death. Anakin returned to the light and now Ashoka has become Ashoka the white and can begin her journey refreshed with wisdom.

To me, Ahsoka, was terrified that she might one day give in to the darkness that was within Darth Vader. Much like Luke had to face Vader in his trial, this was Ahsoka's trial. I don't think that you guys noticed it, but Ahsoka's eye color changed when she was threatening Anakin with his own lightsaber. Again, like Luke, when she had the option to choose the light side or the dark side, she chose the light side. I think that's also why she's now wearing white and has more abilities with the Force than she has shown before. Just my thoughts.

I really am enjoying this Series. Its (So far. Very Well Done!)

My personal Take On ''The Overall Lesson (s) For Ahsoka ''
(First Last Episode Baylon (During the Fight with Ahsoka) He Used all of Ahsoka's Guilt That She Feels and Other Baggage. To Knock Her Off her Game). What Baylon Said to Ahsoka . Made Her Act Impulsive and Too Off Balance During the Fight! (Like Grabbing that Star Map/Artifact. She Could Have Force Pushed It Off the Platform?) Ahsoka Was Even Fighting with One Saber.)
Seems Anakin Put A Mirror on Many Things (That Baylon Mentioned.)
Ahsoka Picking A side...Like Acting Like a Jedi Then Not Wanting to be One. Ahsoka Has To make up her mind on that (A lot of Self Doubt Was Building up)
Also, She Holds People at an Arm's Length. Always Fearing She Will Make a Mistake. That Will (Get Someone Hurt). Or Kill Someone She Loves. (Like She Did with Sabine. By walking Away. Ahsoka Made Sabine Feel Like Ahsoka Did Not Care, OR Trust Her?)
Another is Feeling As though Anakin Turning to The Dark Side. Becoming Vader Was Somehow Her Fault?
I think She Felt as Though by Not Being There For her Master. In his Greatest Time of Need (By Proxy Anyone Vader Hurt/Killed is Part of Ahsoka's Legacy As well! ''One Of Pain and Death'')
Learning to Find a way Of Letting All the Thing's She Could Not Control or Change From her Past. Let it go and (Be Re Born Emotionally/Spiritually ... (Seem's Literally) If Ahsoka Stopped ''Fighting In the World Between Worlds'' She May have Physically Passed Away?)
It's as If Anakin the Chosen one ( Maybe) A'' Mortis God'' Now .Part of the Cosmic Force (Maybe Similar To the ''Father'' A Balance Between the Light/dark sides of the Force?)
All My Opinions and theories... Lol

He's actually a part of the Ghost crew. A lof of reactors have questioned why Hera is bringing him along on missions. He's a crew member and a force user. If Padawans can go on life/death missions at his age, I'm sure Jaycen will be ok. LOL

The Force gave Ahsoka the chance to learn The Darkside from Anakin's Force Ghost, in doing so she might have died from drowning once she was sent back, too late to be found by anyone.
But she rejected taking on his Darkside knowledge and she was found worthy of being a Jedi Master. So The Force returned her early enough so that she could be found and saved.

The question isn't "What is the lesson?" Anakin was very straightforward about it. "Live or die." The real question is "Why?" It should be a simple lesson with an obvious choice, but it's figuring out what's stopping Ahsoka from making it that gives the lesson depth.
