    Hello Claire, I was born and bought up in Hemel Hempstead, my great uncle Bert Marks was the ranger at Ashridge between the wars and I know all the areas that you walked through. I now live remotely on the west coast of Scotland but it was really lovely to accompany you around my old haunts. I used to regularly sleep out in those woods with the deer and owls for company…..thank you…John

    Hello Claire. Such a wonderful POV and cheerful outlook as you explore Nature
    The music, narrative, and imagery is wonderful. Such a delight in watching these marvelous segments. Rather like an immersive experience.
    So calming and serene. Lovely job all around. I watch a few of your video segments: to remind myself of experiencing Nature in person is Great Medicine.
    Your videos are consistently evolving and you learn from errors. If more people did such things the world would be Grand indeed.
    You are a beautiful person inside and out. Pleasant outlook about your adventures and respect of your environment.
    So much respect for you my dear. May you he blessed in all areas of your life. I understand you have a child. Have you taken your child with you on any of your outings.
    Teach your youngster well the value, and wonder of Nature.
    Be well and stay safe Claire. 😇🤓🤗😎 Big hello from Irish Bob

    • @WildBeare
      @WildBeare  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Aw, hello Irish Bob, and thank you so much for your lovely words :)
      Yes my son is 10 now and he loves to come on little trips with me, he has climbed Snowdon and Caider Idris and we go on local camps sometimes, although I don't film when I'm with him as I like the quality time. Hoping to take him on his first multi-night trip this year, now that he's big enough to carry a few things.
      So glad you like my lil videos, thank you for coming along with me on my trips and wishing you a wonderful week :)🌿 Claire

      @@WildBeare Perfectly understand your keeping son from being online. Signs of good motherly instincts.
      Appreciation of Nature is very important for youngsters.
      In a number of your videos you at times need to use care around open flames. A tip for keeping yourself warmer is a few hot pockets against the kidneys. When your blood is warmed up this way; you feel the rest of the body warm up.
      Another idea is to cut cheap dollar store tennis balls in half. Then use when putting a trekking pole up in various configurations. Will save your tarps my dear.
      Nice that you kindly took time and replied. Makes you more awesome than I already surmised.
      Be well and stay safe on your adventures. It is nice seeing you learn from errors and refine your skills. Kudos kiddo.
      😇🤗😎 Irish Bob

    Cracking video claire, lovely circular route, that woodland is simply beautiful, all them old trees, the storys they could tell, tristan's books are amazing, truly opens your eyes and mind to nature in a way you'd never thought possible, love the fact you lay down in the woods, grounding at its best, some proper shinrinyoku going on too, love night hikes, nature comes alive ,but definitely a OS map is good to have,or a print out of a section of OS map your planning to work,laminate it, then you can mark your route, points of interest etc on it, saves taking the whole map, hammock wise, probably a dd front line or a onetigris hammock with integrated bugnet and the underquilt from onetigris too, good combo for the price, good health and safe travels my friend, blessed be, Craig

    • @WildBeare
      @WildBeare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Craig! Aw thanks for watching :) it's beautiful isn't it! Yes I really loved it, I'm gonna get another one, The Walkers Guide to Outdoor Clues & Signs probably. I love night hikes too, especially that there's no one else around and nature gets so loud :D and how on a full moon you don't even need a headtorch. I take OS maps further afield, but I'm not too worried about losing the trail locally as I'd never be truly 'lost' if you know what I mean, I actually like trying to figure it all out. But yeh OS for away from the home counties, deffo! This is a good idea about printing a part off.. I debated cutting one into bits as they're so big but couldn't bring myself to do it haha. Safe travels to you too friend! :)

    Hammocks - I’ve camped in them for years. Get a rain fly that is much larger than you think it has to be. Avoid ANY tarp or rain fly that is catenary cut. They look cute, and do not provide shelter. Get a rectangular or square fly. My 10 feet X 10 feet tarp has been perfect. Cooke Custom Sewing has excellent tarps that are light weight, and have tie down loops all over. Also avoid any fly with grommets. They pull out and fail.

    Yeah didn't fancy going through all the 265 comments to see any advice on hammocks but you'll definitely need an underquilt even in summer because you will notice the temperature drop at night, I use the snugpak hammock cocoon, that doubles as your sleeping bag as well also whoopie slings, they look like they're complicated to use but they're actually easier than plain straps and a lot less mucking about and they're lighter.

    Watching from Western Australia but come from Tring - some 20 years ago - great to see the local landscape again.
    Look at DD hammocks, u need a modal with a double floor to hold a mat/air bed (frontline) as they feel cold otherwise.
    Or use an under blanket.
    Also invest in their super light tarps 3x3 or 3x4 and their slings, great company, even from here. Thanks and good luck

    Hi Claire, I have spent many nights in hammocks, in the woods, so I thought I'd share some thoughts. I bought an early DD hammock, used it a few times but didn't really get on with it. They are improved now though. I followed it with a cheap, Chinese one with a hooped mosquito net. The hoops are really worthwhile. The cheap hammock does the job. Set up right, it is comfortable. It is lightweight, easy to set up and easy to carry. I use it with a DD 3 x 3 tarp and, while I have been tempted to upgrade to a more expensive one, I have found it perfectly adequate. Certainly, as a first hammock, to try out and see how you get on, it is a good choice. You can always spend more on a named brand one if you really get into it. Hope this is helpful.

    Nothing like a good night tramp {Hike}, all your senses are firing and on full alert. I do them regularly here in NZ and guide others to give them the experience. one never knows when you may be caught out in the dark of night. The trees with the small buttresses also grow out on swampy ground to support the tree. In NZ they can be up to 2 metres high. We call them 'Plank buttresses' . Cheers from NZ

    I use the Etrol hammock. It is enclosed on the ends, with an optional mosquito net. It has tree straps, cord, carabiners, and a storage sack. It's easy to set up and packs small, weighing 2.5 lbs. I got it on Amazon for $60, so you should find it easily.
