Eh, sorry but Ekberg still more persuasive-because he is more inclusive and encourages personal vigilance. I think he’s pushing for personal balance through a more a Whole30 approach, which is essentially to understand your own very unique inflammatory and metabolic triggers, and to focus on whole food, not processed stuff, heavy on fructose, corn, and soy. I realized after the Whole30 how badly my body reacted to ordinary grains, like oatmeal and dairy. Sugar and fructose and starch altogether another challenge. I’ll keep my balanced, fairly low-carb approach, with emphasis on cruciferous vegetables, leafy greens, mushrooms, nuts, and whole eggs. I’ll also nix dairy, except for sensible amounts of grass-fed butter and ghee, and I’ll stick with the occasional grass-fed meat or fish, especially when I feel my body needs it. My family has been vegetarian for generations but we’re cursed with heart disease and lately, we’re fielding an epidemic of diabetes. Part of it has to do with our shifting lifestyle, food availability, and definitely food choices. Vegetarianism or veganism apparently doesn’t always guarantee you like vegetables.

We are in our 70s and gave followed Dr. Ekberg for two years. We each list 45 pounds and have lowered our triglycerides and increased our HDL. Our A1C levels are both normal and our fasting insulin has come down along with our HOMA-IR scores. I know our inflammation has come down as well so much so that I know longer use a cane or walker to get around.

1 thing i know about the GLADIATOR..we know meat, poultry are for the higher hierarchy citizens, the rich. while the normal people to slaves eat more fish and seeds, vegetables..this also has been proven after a town near the Pompeii, they find on the site esp at a food outlet for the town, thousands of seeds and fish bone proof of the food that people eat daily. plus even white bread are considered for the rich, while the rough and more nutritious bread was eaten by lower citizens. so if gladiator are slaves. of course, they will eat more seed and vegetarian.
plus, human starts flourishing after we know how to plant our food.

Holistic doctors know a lot more about nutrition than any so called real doctor. You get less than 20 hours of nutrition in medical school. I listened to a real doctor who had majored in nutritional biochemistry talk about when he went to medical school had that all driven out of him when he went to medical school. I have type 2 diabetes. You so called real doctors have not helped in over 20 years. I followed Dr. Ekberg's advice and now have normal blood sugar (85- 99) with no meds. It was over 200. Maybe you should watch more of Ekberg's videos. He teaches that all real foods, not just meats are healthy.

I followed Dr. Ekberg's advice and in three months I lost fifty two lbs and my blood pressure went from pre-hypertension to below normal. Now I'm concerned that it might be too low and I'm still eating steaks and eggs but plenty of vegetables too as well as complex carbs. Thank you Dr. Ekberg! That man no doubt added years to my life.

Not saying antioxidants from food are bad. But you gotta realize that antioxidants can also protect cancerous cells and actually work against you. The context of when and how antioxidants are consumed is very important. Beta carotene is an important antioxidant. But over-feed beta-carotene to a smoker and their risk of lung cancer rises two fold.
Btw. I am vegan myself. But I think many vegans often comes off as people with a "know it all" mentality.

Jessy Glaub - Sadly I was GREATLY misled by a chiropractor back about 6 years ago in terms of nutrition. It soured my taste for them.
But when I injured my neck I took a recommendation from a friend and went back (to a completely different practice) and can not say anything bad about the profession except that the nature of our health crisis has led a lot of them to offering weight loss services - which, when combined with the supplement sales that go along with it - often make up the majority of their revenue.
But I can’t blame them... people come and want weight loss. No One knows who to trust or what to eat, the American public is confused and nutritionally confounded by conflicting messages.

*Disclaimer I am not biased towards vegans or ketoers
Videos likes these genuinely makes me confused because both sides make claims that make me think. I have been both keto and vegan and even both at the same time. I am no doctor just some random guy trying to choose a healthy lifestyle and genuinely interested in health and nutrition.
I’ve learned that you can be healthy doing both, i lost 25 pounds as a vegan and gained some muscle. But when I was Keto I lost 35 pounds a lot faster while also gaining muscle and strength at the gym. And I felt amazing doing both. I have also ate unhealthy vegan junk foods towards the end of my 1st year as a vegan and gained back all the weight I lost ( I take full responsibility on that ). As well as the same goes for keto I ate “fat bombs” snacks all the time and gained some weight back.
At the end of the day I just try to be as balanced as possible and do my best now to stay away from as much processed foods as possible. My family line has amazing genetics and my family from both sides have lived into the 100’s before passing away and they were not vegan, they were not keto. But they also were not stressing about this stuff and lived in the DR where all fruits veggies and meat is prepared organically with none of the crazy stuff we use today in everything. I love my greens I love my fruits, i still eat meat and I still have junk food every now and then but nothing like I did before. What I do know is that All my inflammation issues I had before I even started any of these diets are completely gone and I feel amazing now. and I can perform at an advanced level in the gym and with my friends playing sports.
I appreciate and enjoy these videos and I glean as much as I can from both sides without trying to be biased. I just genuinely want to be healthy. I don’t hate vegans I don’t hate keto I appreciate that both sides have helped different people with different circumstances. And I undertake that the debate of keto vs vegan will go on for ever. just dropping in my 2 cents until then I’ll be watching and reading every single TH-camr “debunk” each other and see contradiction studies on everything we put in our mouth!

I have nothing against anyone going vegan, but why does it seem like vegan influencers (and many non influencers) are so condescending. This guy talks like he’s a superior, smarter person. Everything about his vibe is what I think most people get rubbed the wrong way when talking to a vegan. I personally don’t get annoyed by someone eating plants. But I get really annoyed by someone talking to me or others like they’re better. Plant or meat eater, doesn’t matter. I think most vegans are working so hard to justify their decision that it’s coming off wrong. Just be vegan. Eat what you’d like. And don’t talk so condescending when discussing a non vegan life style. By the way.... I know some meat eaters can be degrading to vegans too, for no reason. But the ratio of cocky vegans to non cocky vegans is super overwhelming.

@DriftZ TwoSeven First of all, DriftZ TwoSeven, I'd strongly recommend you to read or listen to The China Study by T Colin Campbell, hopefully that will help to sort out your confusion about protein as an essential macronutrient and more specifically that from animal sources. There, by the way, beyond explaining why animal protein is not good for our species, Dr. Campbell addresses exactly your point regarding skewed and biased science. Secondly, being lean doesn't equal being healthy just as lots of smokers and drug addicts aren't. Thirdly, there's a DIFFERENCE between carbs. Complex carbs from whole plants are as good for us as refined simple carbs mostly in junk foods are bad. Very, very important point to remember and not to mix those two together. And lastly, TMAO, IGF-1, HEME IRON, ENDOTOXINS, CHOLESTEROL AND SATURATED FAT. If you look them up in the latest scientific research, that might put you off your meat for good. If not, keep chasing the final 0.00000001 % proof if you think that 99.9999999% of science against eating animals is not good enough for you. But I'd have thought that the overwhelming body of evidence that animal protein is detrimental to our health is sufficient enough to leave the poor creatures alone and wholeheartedly embrace the food that we have always been meant to eat, namely, whole plants. Just common sense.

Maybe you should talk about the real culprit here, which is sugar. The USDA said that you should eat more carbs and low fat. The main population have followed that and now we have increased obesity, increase type 2 diabetes, increase heart issues. There is your proof. Maybe you should focus on sugar and processed food.

Those things are indulgences just like everything else. Why would I ditch these clothes, buy new clothes, thereby damaging the environment indirectly or sometimes directly in the process and, therefore, hurting animals too? If I keep on wearing my old leather, those animals and their sacrifice was not for nothing-not for me to suddenly go vegan and ditch them. If you have old leather, wear it! I don't blame people for not believing everything they said or questioning the studies they used. The "science experiments" they did looked very unprofessional and incomplete, they never mention other factors like sleep, stress etc. It also seems like they extrapolate a lot, some statements sounded pretty out there to me (like the peanut butter sandwich lol). I just don't think portraying veganism as this magical solution that will solve all of your problems is the best way to promote it, it's dishonest and in my opinion doesn't serve veganism in the long run if people end up being disappointed with the results because of their high expectations (if they really only do it for health reasons). They might think it's not worth it !

Dr. Ekberg did not infer anything like your inferences in your introduction. He (Dr. Ekberg) stated that these athletes (Gladiators) were noticeably young and at physical peak at the time of death so that normal bone deterioration would not be detectable in this cohort, and that the bone condition was not necessarily the result of a pure vegetarian diet. Also, I take some offence in your need to be derogatory of Dr. Ekberg as an individual and a Physician. I have viewed several his videos and he does not denigrate the authors of alternative material, and mostly points out the strengths and some of the common misunderstandings surrounding some common beliefs around diet, exercise and health. From my own studies, (not comprehensive) in human physiology, nothing that I have heard from Dr Ekberg violates the basic principles I am aware of. I have sought advice from Dr. Ekberg because I have had a long battle with obesity (not yet over), despite my limited understanding of human physiology. It was interesting that I managed to drop 60kg through exercise and cutting meat consumption but am dumfounded that upon resumption of a "normal, "no formal diet" eating plan" my weight rebounded by 20kg, despite exercise and a modified diet. I find his (Dr. Ekberg's) explanations around "Insulin Resistance" quite enlightening, and I have some disposition toward it, because a time before my huge weight blow out, my then wife (an astute researcher) had come across something called the "meat-lovers diet." It was recommended only to be tried for around a 2-months due to health concerns around fat and high cholesterol, but the nuts and bolts are that I did lose weight and felt satiated and dropped calorie intake quite naturally because of the low carb high protein diet. These are two important outcomes of the fasting/keto diet that seem to be being fulfilled by following Dr. Ekberg’s strategies. I have not at this stage lost weight, but some signs of reduction in abdominal fat seems evident after the first week. I am hoping that I will see weight reduction with some persistence but have been pleased with my satiation levels and I seem already to be struggling to eat all the food I have allowed myself in the daily plan. Dr. Ekberg absolutely does not debunk that a vegetarian or vegan diet can meet good health outcomes, just that it is not the best solution for everyone, which the movie "Game Changers" seems to imply, ie change to vegetarian diet and you will be twice the athlete you were before the change. He has every right to challenge this assertion, based on good science principal. I have been on the cusp of T2D for a number of years and have just managed the dodge that bullet so far. My bro, a year and a half younger has not, and has had one foot amputated. Dr. Ekberg, I believe, is not trying to start flame war on vegetarianism v protein consumers, but rather drives at the human metabolic processes that generate energy production and how the human body can run without accumulating excess storage (body fat), too much of which he also concedes is not health optimal, but also not the ogre it has been made out to be. Game Changer's however is driving at the human physical performance angle, and just as a race car achieves a world record, it is not wholly based on the fuel (food) used, but any record breaking will be difficult without attention on the brakes, aerodynamics, or the suspension.

I really wish vegetarians/vegans and fasting/controlling insulin practitioners would get together on this. It really would save many millions of life’s in the near and distant future.
I’m very annoyed with this stance as I can’t believe anyone would fight each other when so many life’s count.
So are you saying high sugar and manufactured oils is good for us and breads? If not get on the same track both sides

Let’s just be honest, the movie was cherry picked as fuck to fit the vegan agenda, because everyone involved in the movie has a vegan/plant based company they want to profit from. Humans where meant to eat what they had access to based off their geographical location, and if you have to supplement your diet it is not optimal for health. A diet high in vetetables and a variety of organic meats is the healthiest because you are then eating a wide variety of nutrients from many different food sources, rather than having to supplement just because your avoiding the foods that contain those nutrients. The documentary also cherry picks vegan athletes that perform at an elite level, although they fail to mention that the strongest and most successful athletes on this planet eat a wide variety of foods that include meat. The only reason the vegan lifestyle should be promoted is for the morality reasons. If you care about animals an immense amount then you don’t have to eat them, simple as that. But don’t go and say it is optimal to eat a restrictive diet like vegan because it’s just simply not optimal for the majority of the population.

I’m not vegan but i admire who adhered to this kind of diet. Having said that, i must say that Dr. Eckberg is not against vegan diet. He was just critical about some cherry picking data used by filmmakers in order to prove their arguments. He believes that both carnivorous and vegans can be healthy which i agree.I think that what makes the vegan diet so special is not any partcularly health benefit, it is the ethical and philosofical premisses behind it related to animal sentience.

People on in the comment session are hilarious... I followed Dr. Eckberg's videos. Cut carbs and ate more protein both from plants and meat sources and my life changed. People who saw me knew that I was doing something.

When you make a film you have to pick some studies. Can't talk about all Millions of studies. The movie would last for decades.
And a Vegan diet is about the animals, the health of the Planet and the health of humans.

@@xperience-evolution No thats not how you make an educational film. This is a documentary about health you have to be honest to people about the health benefits of the diet you choose. This entire documentary was meat is bad plant is good. But it didnt adress any of the arguments on the meatside, it didnt discuss the downsides of vegan diet i mean you practically cant survive on a vegan diet in the northern hemesphier unless you supplement, they didnt adress issues with converting beta caroten to vitamin a, they didnt discuss epedemiology or the epedemiology tests done in china bangladish and india with almost 1 milion people that showed an inverse assosiation between meat and cvd. They flatout ignored every fact and procceded to advance their own agenda.

9:05 why do you immediately assume he meant turning carbs to fat? If in a calorie deficit most people have lots of thousands of fat calories stored in the belly and butt for later use. I think your point here is ignoring the point and focusing on how you can make him sound wrong despite us all knowing we burn body fat if we dont consume enough calories.

Ekberg is a common last name in Sweden, it means oak-mountain. There's a lot of last names that are nature derived like Sjökvist (Lake-twig lol) or Berggren (mountain-tree branch) in endless combinations. My family name is Rose thorn-mountain.
Funny thing is his first name "Sten" means rock, or maybe stone is a better translation. So his name is Stone Oak-Mountain 😂
