About the micro stutter: just turn to full screen mode instead of borderless window, you can eliminate the micro stuttering. Because in borderless window mode, the GPU has to copy frame buffer to another frame buffer that's bound to the game's window before showing it. That copying could be delayed there's other stuff utilizing GPU at the same time. Just turn to full screen mode, the copying is not needed, thus eliminating the micro stuttering.
Interesting is this for ever monitor? I never knew this. I ussualy go borderless but i never really knew the difference. What is the advantages of going borderless n e way?
I have this, the only negatives I can say about it is, a fair bit of backlight bleed in the bottom corners. If you're not in a dark room though this isn't so noticeable. Also the fact it comes locked to 59hz out of the box, I tried running some games on the new PC (i7 9700 & RTX2070 Super) and was freaking out that it was jerky, freezing for seconds at a time when i was sure gsync was on and I thought I'd wasted my money buying the new PC and monitor. Instead of a higher frame rate you could have just bumped the shutter speed accordingly, which is double the shutter speed of a frame rate that you aim for. Should give you correct results. Less light, but it should still be enough, especially for a screen.

This is because if the frame rates dip below that you lose the benefits of both."? At what frame rate CAN you run both Adaptive Sync and ELMB Sync then? Not below 60, not between 60 and 165, and the monitor doesn't go higher than 165. What's left?
Wait I'm confused, why can't they both work if you're running between 60-165 fps? I haven't heard any other reviewer mention this, and I can't find anything from ASUS or anywhere online saying this

@@jettangeles2707 I already did... Twice actually... :P Don't know why though you recommended the video... Fast Sync in combination with enabling free-sync on my monitor and enabling gsync for my gpu (in the nvidia control panel) works like a charm for me. No stuttering, no tearing, faster response than vsync, unlocked fps, ...
Seems like great monitor based on this review. Im looking at buying VG27BQ, that is TN version of this. I guess that TN version could be even better in motion because faster response times.
Try finding lenovo y27q-20, acer vg272up, LG 27gl850. They are all similar monitor with same LG panel(lowest response time on ips ) Acer one is 350$ in Hong Kong, which is very reasonable for 1440p 144hz ips. The Lenovo one is more pricy but with 165hz and metal stand.
"You'll need a powerful GPU because ELMB and adaptive sync cannot be used between 60 and 165 frames per second" That's a really confusing slip of the tongue. If true this monitor is only good for awful GPUs haha.
ELMB sounds like a dream to me: there's a few games where I love capping my framerate at 140 on my 144hz monitor and enable Freesync (I love consistent frame delivery and frametimes and despite my games running at around 180 average, the competitive ones, I choose freesync without extra input lag over unlimited fps and less consistent image during fast turns) but I lose out on my motion blur reduction option, which is pretty decent on my panel. However... from what I've read ELMB still is very prone to flickering in brightness and things like that, whereas my own normal MBR is completely consistent so the flickering isn't visible without a slowmo camera. However... my panel has the issue where MBR is very, very bright instead of more dim than the standard setting. It's Samsung's version which works slightly differently, but to the same visual effect as normal ELMB/ULMB/Lightboost.
I'm a 240 hz dyac person myself... but I'm thinking of getting the next LG gsync compatible oled for for adventure non competitive titles / media consumption.
I just bought this monitor, waiting for it to be shipped. But I just saw a different model, the Vg27wq. Specs look the same, but it's curved and va. No one has done a review on it yet. What do you guys think? What's the diff?
I game on an Asus VG248QA with a separate Lightstrobe program running to enable Black Frame Insertion on this model. The app doesn't ways automatically open with Windows 10. I recently forgot to make sure it was on before starting my game. Even at 120fps, I INSTANTLY NOTICED it was blurrier. More accurately, I noticed it was blurry, because with BFI, there is zero blur on this monitor! I don't understand how BFI isn't a hugely sought after feature.
There is one detail that I didn't quite catch here: At 7:19, you say that both adaptive sync and ELMB don't work if you have less than 165Hz. I don't know about the technical details of the motion-blur reduction, but the point of adaptive sync is to sync your monitors refresh rate to the output frequency of your GPU. So its main purpose is to use it below 165Hz, which contradicts your statement. So, does ELMB work under 165Hz? If not, why not exactly? Does it work above 165Hz?
I've had this monitor now for a few days and I love it. I do not love the ELMB sync. I seem to be sensitive to the dimming/flickering it causes. It's very minor but I can't handle it. I turn it off and G-sync off and turn tracefree on and up to 60 when I'm doing high refresh rate gaming. If I'm playing RDR2, I like to turn g-sync back on. I would never use ELMB sync I don't think. I recommend 2 to 3 presets saved on this monitor for optimal settings in different types of games. 2070super + 3800x in my gaming PC. In conclusion, I would buy this monitor again. There isn't anything really better at this price in my area. I payed 579.99 CDN which is not a great deal but I wanted a new monitor right away and they had it in stock.
@@OverdriveTech I have the same. It is still REALLY good. The new LG ones are also really good as well. I would've went with an LG but the PG279Q I got is nearly perfect and I don't feel like risking the return for a possible "panel lottery" game.
@@AlejandroMorales-cx2mh no it VA but performs literally almost as well, that's why I bought it and I have literally 0 complaints to date. Other than not bring G-Sync native. Aside from that it works perfectly with g-sync compatible. Just an excellent monitor with excellent tech in it and for an excellent price too! Honestly the best 32" one the market right now, especially when considering price and shadowboost technology as well!
6:20 that’s not where the benefit is! If your eyes move and the monitor stays illuminated you smear the image over an entire frames’ worth of time. Eyes move vontinuously and display in discrete steps. By flashing the image briefly you get a clear image that follows along ln the retina as an after image. That’s why CRTs have such extremely good motion clarity and LCDs even with BFI are kind of meh. Microled will fix this; extreme brightness for a tiny period of time; then shut off and update the picture and then flash again at extreme brightness. For monolithic microleds as might be used for AR 1 million nits is achievable. Even through semitransparent mirrors and other ineffiicencies you can still have a duty cycle of 1% or less.
This ''HOLY GRAIL'' monitor has a dead pixel after a few hours of use and that's my second monitor GREAT JOB ASUS think im gonna go with aoc 24g2u instead next time
@Vishnu Kalluri ASUS QC is fkn garbage on their monitors. I doubt I'll buy another one either, Had both 1440p ROG Swifts the TN 144hz and the IPS 165hz. TN had to have G sync module replaced, IPS developed blue line straight after warranty expired. Sent in to get it checked out, Technician says panel is stuffed and will cost $100 less than buying a new one, He said it's not worth repairing.
@@ShaneMcGrath. Could't agree more only 1 asus monitor i have ever bought didn't had any issues. I guess its like a more of a gambling then actual getting what you pay for...
Yep, picked up 2 ASUS, returned each time because it had really bad QC. I think its a great monitor but if the QC is horrendous your going for a lotto. Ended up with the LG 27GL850, very hard to get but was lucky

My dad purchased two of these for my brother and I for Christmas!, it's an amazing monitor!
how much did he pay for them (each). I'm trying to get one but having difficulties.
@@harpoon_bakery162 Just under $440
@@Chrillee that was a good price. and what a monitor choice.. what made him decide on that nice of a monitor brand? did he do a lot of research and is your Dad a gamer himself. How cool if so!!
So ELMB is the new high refresh rate. Once you've tried it, you can never go back.
Also, I'm expecting any future hardwarecanuck's monitor reviews to include Mike co-hosting the video.
When I go to turn mine on it’s greyed out and can’t turn it on... plz reply
@@afersity3x861 Make sure you have the exact same model in this video and that your refresh rate is set to 120Hz or higher. Otherwise this setting won't be available.
What a fancy name to say the monitor power-off for a fraction of time on each frame to help around transitions.
7:13 I'm confused at this part. You said you CAN'T operate it between 60 and 165 fps?
laaannder there’s a limit to how low the frame rate can dip while maintaining adaptive sync
does ELMB increase input lag?
Nothing beats an old fashion CRT monitor :)
Thank you for this video and reviews. Would you compare this to the other Asus model such as the ASUS VG27AQL1A. What would you recommend between these two monitor. Thank you.
I want a comparison between this and the new lg 27 nano ips monitor.
Both are great and have its pro & con
So should I get this or its brother? The VG279QM has 280hz, Freesync and G-sync compatible and has ELMB, IPS, and HDR 400 also $200 less.
So many people forget about Fast Sync while for me it works perfectly!
ActionBrother Watch Battle(non)sense video about Fast Sync.
@@jettangeles2707 I already did... Twice actually... :P
Don't know why though you recommended the video...
Fast Sync in combination with enabling free-sync on my monitor and enabling gsync for my gpu (in the nvidia control panel) works like a charm for me. No stuttering, no tearing, faster response than vsync, unlocked fps, ...
ActionBrother When I have it enabled, it just feels very jarring. I usually just leave my FPS capped at 117 for smooth gameplay.
I get a ton of stuttering with fast sync unless my frame rate is way beyond my monitor's max refresh rate
@ yes, 144hz
would this be the perfect monitor for my 3070?
Im holding out for Oled Gaming Monitors.
Youll be waiting...
Seems like great monitor based on this review. Im looking at buying VG27BQ, that is TN version of this. I guess that TN version could be even better in motion because faster response times.
Did you get the TN version? If so how do you like it? I'm trying to decide between the TN and IPS versions.
I’m honestly not a long term fan but I actually thought I was on the wrong Chanel when I clicked on the video.
Do I have to buy the monitor? Or does the screen come with the monitor built inside?
I don't know... Video seems to much like an ad to me :(
Just pick this up today. Pretty happy so far.
Around 600€ in Germany atm, might wait a while for the price to settle down :D
Try finding lenovo y27q-20, acer vg272up, LG 27gl850. They are all similar monitor with same LG panel(lowest response time on ips )
Acer one is 350$ in Hong Kong, which is very reasonable for 1440p 144hz ips.
The Lenovo one is more pricy but with 165hz and metal stand.
Get zowie with dyac
If I’m correct this one has Adaptive G-Sync. Will this type of g-sync work for Xbox “One” X?
i wanted to buy this so thx for the vid
VG27AQ vs 27GL850 which one is better
"You'll need a powerful GPU because ELMB and adaptive sync cannot be used between 60 and 165 frames per second"
That's a really confusing slip of the tongue. If true this monitor is only good for awful GPUs haha.
was planning on buying the VG248QG, basically the 24 inch version of this monitor for $209 on amazon, but it’s sold out rn :’(
1:52 , so hmm where are the supposed timestamps? tia
Debating between getting this or the ViewSonic XG270QG, opinions?
It's 2020, so when is the full review coming?
never!
I just ordered mine today .... Thanks to you're review 🤙 Good job keep it up!!!!!
@Solve Everything just got it and gotta say it doesn't disappoint!
He need to turn down sensivity on Overwatch, clearly he's outside his DPI comfort zone with that Winston lmao
Any chance you guys are going to do a review on the VG27AQL1A?
hey guys, what happened to the "best cases of 2019" episode, we are missing that,
So it would make it less nauseous to watch?
Also Wouldn’t strobing the frames possibly cause seizures?
I agree and use a 55" OLED for single player games. :)
lmao im literally sitting here watching this on the same monitor
I just bought this monitor, waiting for it to be shipped. But I just saw a different model, the Vg27wq. Specs look the same, but it's curved and va. No one has done a review on it yet. What do you guys think? What's the diff?
Asus will send another one with small improvements and higher refresh rate
You dont need higher refreshrate cause you arent getting higher than 144fps with 1440p Ultra.....
@@jamesjohnathin6504 everyone knows, it's just that Asus doesn't give a shit about that.
@@callmeam1r_909 yeah well it is only 500 dollars. Thats a great buy in my opinion. All the other monitors all have trade offs you know
Have the TN BQ version calibrated, like it better than IPS AQ tbh, and it's cheaper too.
Review the Viewsonic Elite XG270QG next!
Its a complete joke €830 for a display like that.
I wish someone would feature a glossy screen
There is one detail that I didn't quite catch here: At 7:19, you say that both adaptive sync and ELMB don't work if you have less than 165Hz. I don't know about the technical details of the motion-blur reduction, but the point of adaptive sync is to sync your monitors refresh rate to the output frequency of your GPU. So its main purpose is to use it below 165Hz, which contradicts your statement.
So, does ELMB work under 165Hz? If not, why not exactly? Does it work above 165Hz?
Elmb works between 40 fps - 155 fps on this monitor if I'm not mistaken.
Still waiting for MLED Monitors...
They will be awesome but expensive af
Expect $20,000
@@HailAzathoth Yeah... Hope it'll get more affordable...
Yup, MicroLED is the future.
Looks almost the same as my PG279Q
Our PG279Q is by ROG and like three years old
@@richardzhang2773 Yeah I know, but it is still really good.
@@OverdriveTech I have the same. It is still REALLY good. The new LG ones are also really good as well. I would've went with an LG but the PG279Q I got is nearly perfect and I don't feel like risking the return for a possible "panel lottery" game.
There's a reason why the PG279Q is still at a $600+ price point, It's still that good.
@@dpgoverride My VG279Q was $300. It's the 1080p 27" IPS Freesync 144HZ version.
Would this be a perfect monitor for the ps5? I have the benq el2870u at the moment i cant find a 120 fps 4k monitor for the ps5
You can only do that if there is HDMI 2.1. If its not you'll be stuck at 60hz.
You really should have mentioned that the 32" also does exactly the same. I know because I just got one!
1ms, 144mhz, 1440p, etc
That one is not IPS
Huh, this isn't an LG C9.
Chaos Theory a 27” 1440p LG OLED would be my dream gaming display
With calibration, would you prefer this monitor over pixio px7? Thanks in advance
Sent in to get it checked out, Technician says panel is stuffed and will cost $100 less than buying a new one, He said it's not worth repairing.
i had that aoc 2 times and bouth times it come with dead pixels and color bleed
@@vilkas6571 Well good to know that apparently ips gaming monitors qc is still in the gutter.
@@ShaneMcGrath. Could't agree more only 1 asus monitor i have ever bought didn't had any issues. I guess its like a more of a gambling then actual getting what you pay for...
Is the included display cable certified ?
Lot of ppl complain about this monitor.
Im happy with my LG 27GL850 😌
I'm thinking of getting the same, not sure if ELMB Sync could sway me over the LG
LegendsofMace im tired with those tricky and marketing tech.
I bought LG and wait for micro led for perfect monitor.
Yep, picked up 2 ASUS, returned each time because it had really bad QC. I think its a great monitor but if the QC is horrendous your going for a lotto. Ended up with the LG 27GL850, very hard to get but was lucky
Gonna go for the LG then I think, once in a while I see it in stock just got to grab it fast. Should last me fine until MicroLED makes it's way to the mainstream and takes the crown from OLED.
@@Coltyro1028 i dont know i have an 2 asus monitors and they have served me better then my samsung and lg

Next batch of monitors will have AKOVOWEKOD SYNC and RMWOFJKQ SYNC on them.
Can it run 144hz with elmb and g-sync on at the same time ? And what I have to give up incase I want to oc it to 165hz ?
Yes it can run elmb and g-sync on at the same time. Over clocking to 165 hz is not recommended
