      If you can get it cheap, it's not too bad, but other IPS monitors have gotten much better in the last few years. Most of the nano-IPS panels from LG have much faster response times. I've got a review of the Lenovo Y27q-20, which uses one of those panels, and it's amazing how much better the Lenovo is than the VG27AQ.

    You just got yourself a new subscriber! No test about the Freesync range or I missed it? So far you are the only reviewer that provided in depth testing on the ELMB sync implementation and managed to point out the weakness of Asus's backlight strobing + VRR implementation.

    • @ApertureGrille
      @ApertureGrille  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yeah, I forgot to mention the adaptive sync range. It's 48 Hz to 165 Hz. Tftcentral also did a good investigation of ELMB, and it seems they maybe got a better result with an AMD graphics card, but I don't have one to test. And besides, ASUS doesn't make any mention of ELMB not functioning with GeForce cards.

    I was fooling around my PG279Q, and discovered it got an excellent ULMB @ fixed 120hz, sadly no ELMB allowing to have adapative Sync running at the same time. I can shorten the strobe duration to make it almost perfect, without any crosstalk. I have a VG27AQ on my desk, they are side by side and I have to say the PG279Q looks better even ELMB is not turned on. The crosstalk is really not comfortable even on moving text, when it was almost perfect on the PG279Q. ELMB is still working, don't mistake me, it's probably better for DOTA/scrolling games, where crosstalk is less noticeable, but it's not a great change over the fluidity of the PG279Q. I'm sending back the VG27AQ because in my case it doesnt make a big difference. But I recommend anyone else to buy and keep it, this is the best value on the market to date.

    • @ApertureGrille
      @ApertureGrille  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comparison! It seems Nvidia usually does a good job for their G-Sync displays at timing their ULMB strobes to reduce crosstalk.

    • @eder88
      @eder88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also own a pg279q and noticed the same as mentioned above. However, it's a pretty close comparison to the two. I'd recommend the vg27aq if your looking for a multifunction monitor for console gaming and pc gaming.

    • @JonasHopp
      @JonasHopp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eder88 I actually sold my PG279Q and bought a VG27BQ (the cheaper TN version). On this one, I noticed some overall screen flickering (because of the VRR in videogames maybe, but even without Overclocking the screen to 165hz), and there is also some "splicing" (the brightness of 'multiple vertical rows of 1 pixels wide' is variating (1 is brighter, 1 is darker, and it repeats, this creates some flickering that you can notice especially on bright areas (ie. sky in videogames, bright walls)). I miss my IPS colors and actually the reverse ghosting is still horrible on this screen when you use ELMB. It's cheaper and works great otherwise, for around 120€ less than the VG27AQ. It doesn't have a usb hub integrated. But, now, I can go team red when I upgrade my graphic card...

    Just some feedback: I'm on a benq xl2411 and I'm looking for an upgrade. Mostly for gaming. Historically I would go for best FPS gaming experience (IE: fastest response times). I was hoping for a larger monitor with better blacks and colors for casual games but still good for FPS, which led me to the ViewSonic XG270QG listed on blurbusters. Your review of it brought me to this video. The technicality of your videos is well beyond me, so I'm not able to take much useful info from them.

    Talking about "bleeding": This is IPS "glow"/"shine" and not bleed. This is kind of normal for this technology and such large scales. A real bleed looks completely different and does not depend on viewing angle, as shown here (only IPS glow does).

I have a rtx 2080 super and going to be playing competitive games so I would like all the frames I can get but I do want good picture quality and could sacrifice a couple frames for the better quality. But what’s the biggest difference between the two? The frames or the picture quality?

      For a TN panel, it doesn't seem to be doing much better than the IPS.
      I'm really hoping that ASUS refreshes both the VG27AQ/BQ with newer panels from AU Optronics. Right now I'm playing games on the VG279QM, and while it's only a FHD screen (so not great for desktop usage), in games it's better than the VG27AQ.

    Welp... You just earned yourself a sub bud! I can't say that my pc monitor knowledge is anywhere near as extensive as yourself. But it get's pretty frustrating seeing comments and complaints on the internet and in reviews about monitors. But coming from people that have no idea what it is they are even complaining about.... I.E. Buys expensive IPS monitor. Complains about IPS glow.... Anyway... I love these reviews. I have been eyeballing this monitor for a little while now. I have an Acer Pred. x34p and LOVE it. Thought I would never want to go to anything other than an UW. But I am getting curious about trying a monitor with a faster refresh rate and can handle blur a tad better. I may have to pull the trigger on this one. I will keep an eye out on your channel bud!

    Hey, great review, can you just briefly tell me the best settings for the monitor. I didn’t really get that out of the review.

      Yeah I'm having major issues with mine where the color doesn't stay constant. It seems to change hue's every now and then...

      Only get TN if you are a competetive e-sport gamer.

    I tried 3 of the PG279Q and all of them where terrible backlight bleed. i also had 2 Aorus AD27QD, and their where both 5 times better then any of the asus monitors.
