  • Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet-these three eminent companies are known to be some of the best watchmakers in the world. And deservedly so, contributing for centuries to the tapestry of watchmaking, building a rich, illustrious history of mechanical ingenuity and invention. You’ll notice Panerai is not on that list-here’s why.

    A friend of mine bought his Panerai around 10 years ago and it's the defining piece of his wardrobe now. It's sporty, it's fresh, it is present. And it's a brand he says, he can travel through developing countries with the peace of mind, that no one will notice that it's a luxury watch and attempt to steal it. Try the same with a Rolex...

I only buy 3 new cars every 3 years(on lease) you don’t need more then a daily driver(Maserati Quattroporte GTS) a Grovery vehicle(Volvo XC90 Recharge T8) and just a fun car for the weekend(Ariel Atom) those are not the most expensive cars. Watchfinder&Co. Has such amazing quality videos not just the picture quality but the narration, the style of the footage, even down to the hand model! You can watch their videos in anything from 240-720p and it still looks like 1080p and if you watch it in 1080p it looks 10 times better than most 4k videos! You know a company is paying painstakingly close attention to detail when you notice the high level of quality in things that other companies see as background details such as the backdrop, choice of footage, the flow and dynamic of the narration and the footage combined with the nonverbal communication of the hand model. Amazing all around Bravo WF&C! 🏆🎉🎊🏆

    While I could absolutely take or leave the watch itself, that Panerai has something about it that I really think adds positively to it - the dial printing, indices, and doubtlessly if equipped, the date disk, all match the color of the gold case. I think that is so much richer looking than stark white dial markings on a gold shaded watch. A deep blue dial? How about adding just a dab of blue to the dial printing, lume, date disk, indices, etc. Dial printing and markings are so commonly done in an uninteresting stark white shade. Adding in some color adds a new design element that a maker then has to carefully consider.

  • @EranBuhbut
    @EranBuhbut 4 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    Panerai had to upgrade their movements because counterfeit pieces got crazy-close to the quality of the originals...
    The problem with Panerai today IMO is that they invest too much in limited editions, lowering the value of the rest of their catalogue. On top of that, in most cases they sell you a product with diving heritage but with only minimal-to-medium water resistance. If you sell me the story, at least stand up to it.
    Plus one for the TAG comment!

      The replica industry already has many versions of most Panerai pieces which indeed are as close to 1:1 can get. Even if they continue the path to more complications, the damage is already long done. All the models are already at 5/6 revisions in and you just CAN not tell the difference without going all micro, especially models without open casebacks. From the Luminor, Radiomir to Submersible, they are out there.

    • @jumboJetPilot

      @@mooiverhaal7850 this is not just a Panerai issue, mind you. Many Rolex models especially the submariner replicas are already 1:1 as well, the fakers have even made a decent copy of the movement (cal 3135). Also there are many 1:1 replicas of AP, Hublot, IWC as well

    • @EranBuhbut
      @EranBuhbut 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lettuce1305
      True, but I think Panerai had this problem sooner and harder than all of the above since it really was easier to replicate a Panerai. I mean, a Chinese copy of a run-of-the-mill ETA with a little bit of added decorations would have done the trick in most cases.

    • @EranBuhbut
      @EranBuhbut 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can come up with another reason that comes to mind, regarding the recent upgrades:
      You pay a premium for a Panerai and get a basic ETA. For the same price you can get an IWC with at least an upgraded Selita (5 positions and stuff...) or in-house.
      If you increase the value of the watch (i.e. upgrade the movement) then the price becomes more justified.

    Have you seen AP’s new millenary, by god all might I hope it depreciates like crazy so I can snag one pre owned, blue dial of course. When and if you acquire one definitely review one, as you’ll see the movement might be worth while

    I like Panerai watches though I prefer the ones with the crown guard/lock mechanism many of them have. This one is really nice, but too dressy for my lifestyle. I have large enough wrists to wear one and not have it look out of proportion and it's definitely a brand I'd like to have in my collection at some point. They are sort of like a secret handshake for those into watches as they will know immediately what you're wearing. At the same time, those not into watches will know immediately it's not a Rolex which could be an advantage in some cases.

    I've come to appreciate Panerai a lot more recently. The ones with ETA movements can be picked up for a reasonable price on the used market these days.

    could you give a "review" / walk through on the Ingersoll bison no18?? I acquired one at a pawn shop and I'm starting to realize it's a bit on the expensive side..

    does anyone know if the 8day complication automatically winds when being used or does it only wind up by using the crown/pusher?
