How can you talk about a watch and not even own one. You go on about how expensive they are same prices as other brands. I have four and love them.

I'm about to buy my first luxury watch and it'll be a Panerai Luminor. Currently considering a 277, 233, 1312 old and new style. Forget Rolex and Omega and all the other watches that just look the same. Panerai fits my style and is so distinctive. I'm buying it for me to admire, not anyone else, or for putting it into a collection. I think they look and feel awesome, that's why I like them.

They cutting cost on watches from displayed case back to non displayed then from 300m to 100m while increases the price. What a joke

I've owned a 111 for ~15 years and it looks fantastic and is still a favorite in my humble collection. Wore it today. Timeless unique designs and...despite your comments about them NOT being cool...I get lots of compliments. People recognize the design and it gets more compliments than my Rolex GMT Batman for some reason. Not sure why. Perhaps Rolex is too common?

My 2 cents on how to fix Panerai… Fire the entire upper management. Clean up carbotech (I do like the Luna Rossa but I can’t say the same for the rest of the lineup). Do a two pronged attack: For the big watches, bring back the original Slytech models with updated movements. On the moderate sized watches, put a renewed focus on the 42m models. Stop cutting corners and stick to a higher standard in quality production based on ruggedness. This is a great watch brand with a solid iconic watch design. It has been undermined by some seriously poor decisions - opting out of quality. It’s prestige can and should be restored.

Got my PAM104 for 14years, still loving it today! The classic design will never go outdated, it can be a dress watch, sport watch, be it elegant or rugged ,all u got to do is change the strap, love it more than my rolex GMT and Cartier Santos!

I have the PAM104 and changed the leather to the rubber yesterday!
Never thought I’d change the strap, however, looks and feels great!
I have the Cartier Santos 100 (W20121U2 ) on the rubber strap too. I’m tempted to buy alternatives for my Omegas; both Speedy and Seamaster. I’ll be leaving the jubilee and the oyster on the Rolexes though!! May change the strap on the BB58. Rather than seek new watches, I’ve started to look at changing what I have up a bit. 👌🏼

Very much to the point. I am my self a huge Panerai fan. And yes. The due line makes no sense.
I am all for the rugged design and the very rugged history. And I enjoy my one Pam 005 luminor.
The quality is excellent. Really. And in my 12 watch collection I only have that one. But amongst 2 Rolexes, a few cool vintage Girard Perregaux, nivada grenchen and omegas and such - the Panerai probably gets the most wrist time.
Branding wise Panerai are in a difficult place. And you nailed this. Thanks.

Even though rated to 50m they are tested to 200m at the factory. Just facts if you chech the factory series here on TH-cam you will see that they are tested more than any JL or any other watch.

Be careful with Chronext. They are not fair, they can sell you used watch as new one. I have had this issue twice, one watch was scratched, second one was scratched even with non original strap. Returning process is painful, I needed to threat them with reporting the case to the police to get money back, they sent watches to Germany as they said and took them 4 weeks to do so to verify the returned watch. After 4 weeks I lost patience.

Good points throughout. Panerai are more appealing now because they're not considered as "cool" as they used to be. I had no interest 5-8 years ago. Now I'm interested, especially in the newer 42 Submersibles and 40mm Luminors. (I agree about the negative points about the Due line.) And the watch-as-investment approach is not for true watch lovers anyway.

Just bought a new Panerai Blu Mare and love it. Always had a weird thing for Panerai but never bought one, in fact hadn't even tried one on. I was in Paris for a few days and got tempted so wandered into a Panerai AD, tried one on and loved it. It's my current favourite watch to wear, thats over a new Cartier Santos Blue Dial and an Omega Speedmaster sapphire sandwich, I've no idea why but it just feels... special on. It actually feels more premium. I can see more Pams coming my way ! :) Definitely don't knock Panerai until you've worn one

Some nice watches but really really poor brand management. There are so many different varieties and special editions on offer now that it's all but impossible to detect a counterfeit. A slightly oddball watch could very well be an actual Panerai; hard to say unless you're a top expert on the subject.
Old Panerais had meaning and gravitas; many of the new ones are pretty much useless masturbatory junk. The "Due" line or whatever it's called was a bad idea from the start, and further dilute the brand.
About 20 years ago I had a PAM48, which is a pretty plain 40mm watch. It was terrific. I don't think the modern ones measure up.

    I just made my own "Panerai-style" watch using the ETA/Unitas 6497 movement ($220) and Ebay/China case ($30), Ebay/China dial&hands ($25), with Sapphire crystal ($90) for Total Cost=$365.
    or...
    Seagull 6497 copy ($35), case&mineral crystal ($30), dial&hands($30) for Total Cost=$95.
    then...
get a Strap from Panatime for $30. All this gives you 95% the quality of a PAM00111 ($4000) that also uses an ETA/6497 movement. Panerai owners need to be educated on the scam.

I have a Luminor Quaranta and absolutely love it. This is the only watch which random people always notice and talk to me when I am wearing it. It has 100m water resistance and is perfectly proportionate 40 mm Panerai. The old 40mm models like the 48, 125, etc. look like hamburgers with their 16+ mm thickness. The new Quaranta is thinner and perfect to wear. And I don’t plan to dive deeper than 100m with it.😀

  • @JizzyNinja
    @JizzyNinja 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Holy shit this video was so difficult to watch. The factual foundation of your key points are rushed through - something about fake watches being high quality (you know Rolex fakes are REALLY good too right?) and then something about claiming movements were their own - you need to explain these more, not just mention them off the cuff and then say, and that’s why Panerai are too expensive or whatever.
Also that’s a terrible fucking way to talk about their price; value is based on perception and is relative, so maybe try some relative comparisons - for instance the retail price for a submersible is the same as a Rolex sub, and in that comparison the submersible feels overpriced.
The painful factual errors in this video also did not help. One example - Panerai didn’t start out with the radiomir and luminor…. The famous luminor crown guard case you mention being an original model did not come out until 1960, 100 years after the company founding... This shit is on Wikipedia…
And the whole, “park your money” in a watch.. first off, don’t park money in watches if you need that money, terrible fucking advice. Secondly, Panerai’s are very easy to sell, and while they don’t hold their value if you buy it new, they retain their value if you buy it used because they are very close to the floor. These details are important for people watching this video seeking perspective to inform their purchase AND would have been a great way to incorporate you sponsor.
This video just feels rushed, it seems like it was done with so little care, I actually feel bad for the sponsor, chronext.
Yes this is critical feedback, but damn you put more effort into your blue lighting shelf bark and Jack backdrop than you do researching and structuring a video.

  • @realalexmackenzie
    @realalexmackenzie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Not sure I would agree with much of this video.
First off, if you're going to offer so many opinions on a brand, you should probably have owned and experienced at least one or two. It feels like much of this video was based around some stuff you read on the Internet, from questionable sources at that.
The Stallone myth had been thoroughly debunked by a chap who did incredible research. I cannot recall his name, but it was first rate.
Has Panerai stumbled a few times. Sure. However, I hardly think their designs are old and tired. I have 8 currently and I love them all.
And complaining about water resistance in a gold watch makes little sense. You state that this is dress watch level WR, yet it IS a dress watch. Maybe there is filthy rich divers out there wearing their gold watches diving, but I imagine they are few and far between.
