- What can you do with quilt scraps? Today I'm making a beautiful rainbow quilt pattern using only my scrap fabric. This is also a great way to organize and reuse your leftover scraps instead of throwing them away or keep them stored away forever.

(Some of the content in this video may be inspired by other amazing quilters' work. And while I would love to be able to identify the author of the original pattern, sometimes that's impossible to do. I hope you understand.)
Go ahead and get all your fabric scraps ready, because you're going to need them ALL for this one! 🥰🥰🥰
I started quilting back in 2000...I created a system in place right at the start, to organize my scraps and crumbs...so they are ready to go always...my crumbs are all used up...and my larger pieces are in bins by theme and colour...not overwhelming at all and I love to go through the bins to find fabrics for my charity quilts.
That's awesome! I'd love to be that organised 😁
When I’m stressed, I sit with my scrap bag (and low bobbins/spools too!) for about twenty minutes to make these, just grab and sew without too much thought and let my mind wander. Whether I think about what’s on my mind or zone out and focus on what my hands are doing, my brain feels calmer after.
Seeing a stack of pieces from a messy bag feels good for the brain too-no plan yet but just bringing the blocks out to play is fun on it’s own 💞
So clever and so pretty!! Great idea.
Thank you! 😊
Hi Sandy, beautiful quilt. You could quilt as you go with a quilt like this one.❤
Yes, absolutely 😁
You did an awesome job!! I am soooo glad you cut your squares into triangles and then, ADDED, the white center!! It pulled your design altogether!! I absolutely love ❤️ it!! Thank you for sharing!! 😊
Thank you so much! I agree, it needed that extra touch.
@seweasybysandy Hi Sandy. As you laid out the squares, I started thinking - triangles! Then you cut them. BUT adding the white center perfected your design. Chef's kiss 💋 😘!
Sandy, you have the prettiest scraps! you're scraps are prettier then currated bundles!
Heheh thank you! That's so nice 🥰🥰🥰
I really like this! I am thinking it will be my next string quilt. I have tons of scraps, so I greatly appreciate this video!
Sounds like a great plan!
I love the one color blocks, I have at least 200 10 inch crumb blocks, I just can't help myself. I love your finished quilt, what an awesome idea, thanks for the inspiration
That's a lot of 10 inch squares! Are you planning on making something with them? 😀
@@seweasybysandy I want to use about 80 of them cut in half and make a shadow quilt for my King size bed, wish me luck
@@sweetcake405 Sounds like an awesome plan! Happy quilting and best of luck 😃
I think this is my favorite idea for scrap use. The fabric you make is beautiful and the end quilt top is also beautiful. I love scrap quilts but a lot that I’ve seen lately have not looked very pretty. They do use up all your scraps, but the end result looks like a colorful mess ( just my opinion). Your design is very pretty and also uses all of the scraps. Win win!😊
@@dianem4919 -- I agree. My eyes and brain want to see a pattern, even in scrappy designs and quilts. That's why I don't like "crazy quilts." 🤪
First video of yours that I have seen. I am only a very slow quilter of a couple of years.... I can't stand waste and know you can put scraps together but this method is really good. I do like how you are sewing onto another piece of fabric. That is a great idea. I love the triangles and white strip too. I prefer less messy patterns but this way, it makes it more ordered for me and you can really see the pattern. Great stuff. Off to see what else you have 🥰🥰💜💜
Without a doubt this is the one scrap project I want to do. This is awesome. Thank you. Can't wait to do this one. First I have to reorganize my scarps into colors. You are so fun to watch keep it going.
My favourite so far!😍I think it would be just as cute without the white band, too
What a beautiful quilt this is. It's now my favourite, but I say that every time you make something. I love all your ideas and the beautiful fabrics you use.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE 💕 this. Like you I love bright colors and I love your ideas. Kinda like 😊your accent, too ❤ I speak with an accent myself (I’m from Denmark 🇩🇰), which, of course has nothing to do with quilting, but I thought I should throw that in there. Thank you, Sandy, for all your fun ideas. 😊
Hi! Thank you 🥰 I'm from Portugal
I love the colors you use! I also love watching you!❤
Thank you so much! 😊
Love this project, Sandy!
I think that pattern is beautiful ❤️ thanks for the ideas!!
I love this...Thank you for sharing...I have so many scarps...sew many.😂
Love love your personality ❤
Thank you 🥰
I keep debating whether or not I need to buy a mini-iron like you use ... but the more I watch your videos, the more I think I do! 😊
Sometimes I miss a bigger one for the big pieces but this one is so handy for details!
@@seweasybysandy I sew, then stand and go to the ironing board to use my big iron ... but I need to figure out how to have a small ironing area closer to my sewing machine 🤔
@RRMarkham exactly! I can press it right away without having to go away to do it.
I have a mini and full size. I use the full size for ironing yardage. The mini iron is really handy for quilting and they aren't expensive. You can get a mini ironing board that sits on table - saves space too. I have just bought one from an opshop and will cover with a blanket and sheet. On the other hand, getting up to iron is good for your health so you aren't just sitting all day 😁
@helenaMe325 Those are both good points! 🙂
What a beautiful quilt. I love it so cheery and happy. Love your videos.💗💙💛❤
Thank you 🥰
Great idea to use for QAYG too!
Yes! Totally 😁
Ohhhh Sandy this is beautiful ...thank you❤❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome 😁
Cute! A clever idea on using scraps. Thanks
Thank you! 😊
Thanks Sandy - gorgeous 😍🪡 I’ll have to practise putting the white strip in 🤔
It's easier than it looks 😁
Very pretty. I think I will try it myself.
Please do! It's so much fun! 😁
Ah that's so pretty!!
I love it!!
Very pretty!
Love, love, love! ❤
Great! I love it
That bucket of scraps seems to spawn babies it is never-ending 😅 i love your videos, and the quilt is beautiful 😍. ❤
I feel that way too, it's scary! 😂😂😂
❤ your ideas
Love it and you
Thank you 🥰
I love the colors. Hot pink. Orange. Lime green. All my favourites. Are you going to border with a white strip? Would make a lovely table center. ❤
I'm still deciding if I keep going or finish it as is.
Hi Sandy, do you still use a batting when you sandwich together? Love, love your idea to sew scraps to a foundation rather than just sewing all those little pieces together. Thank you
I have more "chunks-larger" pieces , rather than scraps. I've tried all these scrap looking quilts and I never like mine. I like others, but not mine. LOL
I have that issue too sometimes 😁
Where do you buy your fabrics.? I love them
Looks great 😊 Can I ask how you finish the back when you have raw seams please?
I'm doing something similar without the backing and letting grow into weird shapes
Weird shapes are the best! No two alike!
@ I haven’t decided what I’ll do with them yet, maybe cut them the same size and shape and put white sashing in between. Like a window pane
Thanks
Hi Vanessa, how are you? Thank you so much 😊
@@seweasybysandy all good thanks Sandy 🙂
Your quilts are coming out beautiful 😍... but even if you don't like it for yourself please make n donate them to homeless shelters... it may not be your taste but for someone that likes it it will give warm... a smile... n pride in ownership... blessings...
@@cindycash-t2q If she does, they'd have to be larger
100% cotton (or other natural fiber) fabric and thread can be composted.
I’m looking for the Scotty dog pattern?
Hi. Do you mean this one? th-cam.com/video/gMs_G00_QHE/w-d-xo.html
Is it ok to sew new unwashed fabric onto a prewashed base? When the finished quilt is washed they will shrink at different rates.
Sure, I do it all the time because I rarely pre wash my fabrics.
