I love your quilt. You’ve made a beautiful work of art. I recently visited my elderly mother. She’s 87 and still an avid quilter. After looking through her mountain of quilts, my sister and I both ended up loving the same one. We joked that we’d have to fight for it. Mums solution was to give me her pattern, along with her handwritten notes and the 2018 competition she entered it into, with a sad note that she didn’t win anything. Her Road Trip quilt is as stunning as yours, only with more muted colours. You have inspired me to make it up, using more vibrant colours for my own. I don’t have any scraps as it will only be my second quilt. The first is still a learning work in progress, but that won’t stop me from at least acquiring the fabric. Thankyou for the great tutorial.
I make one block as a "tester block" to be sure I get the process correct in my head and like the end result THEN, if I like the results, I make them in bulk/assembly-line/chain-pieced style. There is nothing worse than doing bulk/assembly-line/chain-pieced style only to find out you did something wrong on ALL the blocks or that the pattern really doesn't appeal to you as much as you thought it would.
Speaking of nerdy (I think you're super special!), I sew another seam about 1/2 inch from the one sewn, I cut between the two seams and voila, I have a small square to use in my crumb quilts! Anything that is 1 inch by 1 inch goes into my crumbs; yes my quilts are colourful! Anything smaller goes into a special place for stuffing pillows, along with thread that is no longer good enough to sew with. I try to set all things for recycling - nothing in the landfill! Happy sewing everyone!!!
I always do that as well, unless they are too tiny of course, but why not eh. It seems like we are working on 2 different quilts or use it on the borders on the same quilt. I love doing that…whoever invented it i a genius…
Love this pattern. So colourful. I often have to do a block at a time as i get confused lol I did manage some chain sewing last week which felt great..until I got a nasty infection in both eyes, and still haven't been able to start sewing again as they havent healed yet. Seeing my GP this morning, so fingers crossed that I'll be able to start sewing again in a few days . In the meantime, I'm enjoying watching tutorials instead. Your quilt is beautiful Sandy 💞
Gorgeous colors - want to try it but right now have committed myself to a couple of UFO's so saving it for later. Maybe I should be quilter committed period! 🥴
I like to make a test block so i know what im looking for with the rest of the quilt and then i love the meditatative process of all the steps in bulk. This looks like a great idea to help cut down on my stash and sew up a few blocks at a time as a palate cleanser. So pretty!🎉
Love this quilt. It is bright and perky and would make a great kids quilt or a baby quilt. Depending on how you sort your scraps you can make this quilt to have different moods such as with soft floral fabric it will be a 'romantic' quilts. With bright colored scraps it would be a kids quilt. So many ideas. I pre-cut my leftover fabric or fabrc I get at the thrift store which makes it easy to set up quilt blocks. I can't handle much more than a baby or wall-hanging size quilt, but this would be good for a much bigger quilt.
I love this quilt, it’s stunning! You showed how easy it is, I never would have guessed! I like to work in batches and chain piece, but I love the suggestion of making a test block- always best to get the technique before you start on your pretty fabric!
Qué pena no saber nada de Inglés para entenderte....me encantas....te admiro tu simpatía y como trabajas!! Tengo 80 años e intento poder hacer tus trabajos...se podría lograr traducir lo que hablas ?❤❤😊
Sandy I love the colors you choose for fabrics, always cheerful like you. And I was admiring how accurate your quilt construction is getting. You are doing nice work.
no shame, no shame, no shame! That's not a box of shame (thought I know what you mean, haha)-- it looks like a BOX OF BLISS to me!!!!! :) Digging through and using the mess is part of the fun!!!!
I really love this pattern. Do you have it in writing or do I have to take notes from your video? I love your work! You are a great teacher thank you very much!
Lovely 😍🌹 you could call this "Scrappy Chic" what do use for the backing ...wadding or some sort of padding. Do U wash the squares before using them. Mine says to do
Hi! Thank you! I go to local fabric shops and just get what I like and polka dots are a must for me. I've also recently bought loads of precuts of Amazon and Etsy so I've been having fun with that 😁
Ive made a few if the scrappy blocks but discovered that i have tons of 2 inch strips but not 2.5 so to make the block using my 2 inch strips would i just subtract 1/2 inch from each one of the pieces I cut to make it smaller. Im new to quilting and was unsure how to do this. Thank you in advance for your help
@ would my corners need to be adjusted to 4 inches instead of 4 1/2. I would like to use my 2 inch strips for all the cuts other than the large corner blocks. Like I said Im new to quilting and Have no idea how to do the quilting math lol
If you cut the plus pieces in the same length you should be able to use the same size, off the top of my head. But just to make sure you can cut the pieces for the plus, put them together and measure. Just don't forget to remove the seam allowance when you're measuring.
@@seweasybysandy thats where i went wrong. I cut the long plus piece shorter to make up the difference and it didnt work so I guess I really didn’t need to lol
You mentioned her name in your video. Her first name is Nancy, but I didn’t understand the last name and the Japanese lady you gave her name, but I don’t know the spelling of it.
I love this...I'm gonna make it soon..ty for sharing. I have 2 niece's that are getting married any ideas for wedding quilts? I'm scared to tackle the double wedding ring after 30 years of quilting...😂😂😂to much for me

That's a great tip! Thanks.
Me too. I’m Not an expert by any means
I know I’ve already commented, but this is one of the prettiest quilts I’ve seen! What a great stash of scraps you pulled together 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you 🥰

I love, as usual!❤❤

I love an assembly line
If you sewed twice on each square of your first step, you would have another block to throw back in your scraps. 😂
I really love this pattern. Do you have it in writing or do I have to take notes from your video? I love your work! You are a great teacher thank you very much!
Hi, thank you! I will be adding all of the instructions to my website seweasybysandy.com soon!

One block to learn the pattern… then chain chain chain…..
Yeah! My kind of quilter 😁
She talks about the crucial point of ironing yet if you watch how she’s putting her blocks together, half of her pieces are not flat
