How To Make An Upcycled Slow Stitch Patchwork Reversible Jacket Without a Sewing Machine

- You can create wearable art without a sewing machine! In this diy video, we will take an old beat up, chenille robe and create a stunning patchwork, reversible jacket...all without a sewing machine. This is such a wonderful way to use up all of those left over fabric scraps. Things we will cover in this tutorial: slow stich embroidery, pockets, fusible interfacing, double sided adhesive, floral applique, velvet hearts, tea dying staining, paint splatter technique and more. With the cold winter months upon us, this is a wonderful project to cozy up with by the fireplace or watching tv. I created mine on a long RV trip, it fulfilled my need to create while I was away from my sewing room. Such an awesome hobby idea, while at the same time, creating an one-of-a-kind, high end piece of wearable art...enjoy!

You can never have enough pockets so I add pockets to the other side too since you can wear on both sides. I love the placement of the flowers. I’m going to start one with the so many Christmas prints I’ve got. I was going to start a Challenge on Aprons for Christmas gift exchange with friends but I did not get many or any ok, to tell the truth, but that’s Ok. This was so wonderful to see I feel I got my Challenge. Thank you !

You can even buy inexpensive ones and just over them up with your fabrics. I love the idea you already have your jacket and don’t have to use a pattern then cover with your favorite fabrics old or new. I’m going to hurry and make me a bedcover/quilt for my bed . Some small patches and some big I will be done in time to enjoy it on my bed during Christmas. Can’t go wrong!

Another beautiful creation. It's so much fun to see what you start with and what a different look when you finish. I'm not fond of the paint splotches that you did last. I can see, instead, some beadwork added around the patterns in the scraps you sewed on. Your dress is something else altogether. What a lovely life you have to be able to take stuff and make beauty out of it. Wish I were younger. Should have seen you when I was in my 40's but then again, I was not the person I am now. So am blessed to see you now.

The jacket is gorgeous. I love that it’s made for feels and comfort first and glory second. “ mmm… don’t like the collar” half way through, out come the sharp shears! Perfect! The old quilt you found in Carolina would be called a Wagga in Australia. Made from fabric scraps, most often wool and lined with wool. They were made for utility, but some are beautiful in their plainness. Loved this video, thank you.🤩 😊😊 By the way, your grandchildren are delightful, but I still have a hard time thinking of you as a grandma!😂

When I use iron on interfacing, I use parchment paper. (You use the towel.) That way, there would be no fusing to the towel. I also use parchment paper when I use "heat 'n bond." Thank you for your creative inspiration!! Love your designs!
