Actually, the resin used on the GW5000 is of higher grade than resin used on a $70 DW5600E for example. The resin on the 5000 is more durable and supple. I wear my GW5000 more than any other watch. I think the its the best square ever made with respect to price, build quality and comfort. Yours has been used an intended and that's refreshing to see. Only a true G-Shock square fanatic would be able to pick it out on a persons wrist. To normal passers by, it looks like a "cheap" G-Shock!
Awesome watch but the b5600 “Option” for Bluetooth use doesn’t force wearer to use Bluetooth , it’s only a 2ndary option if you live in a area that doesn’t connect to the multi band easily or if it goes away. If you only want multi band then you have that option and options are beautiful.
I'm not sure if it's all Bluetooth squares or just some of them, but don't you have to connect to your phone to see the battery level on your watch? That's the biggest thing that turned me off from the newer squares, they don't even have a battery indicator on the display anymore
@@derekwalter4238 Yes that's correct. However the battery on mine seems to last forever even locked away in a dark drawer for months. Wearing it as normal the battery charge is usually topped up so it's not necessary to check it often. Still, like you say, it's one of those annoying things, I'd also rather not have to open up the app and connect it. It is easier to use it to set alarms etc though than using the watch buttons scrolling around.
Finally pulled the trigger on this one, has everything I need in a quality watch. Eagerly awaiting the delivery., I also have the new modem w5610 u as backup, tho I may seldom wear it as the battery indicator doesn't seem to want To go any higher than m , well..... it'll do.
Thanks for review. I am going to buy this version. I have the GMW.. Bluetooth is good for initially setting up all time zones and alarms. After that you really don’t need to connect again. Can’t wait to get this one though. I think it will be my go to watch 😁.
Great video! I know it's 3-year-old but I wonder if you still use GW-5000 as your EDC watch? If so, how do you find it after next years? All best from Poland 🙂
💛 the enthusiasm & the nice editing. Great vid, thanks for taking the time (no pun intended). Not like I needed it, but you may have "convinced" me to greenlight this. I really identify w/ your thoughts about a watch for the sake of being a single-purpose watch, not a data link. 💯 Edit: 👍 + sub, see ya again
I've just ordered a new strap/bezel for my 2014 gw5000. Just because. It has maybe seen a month of wear time each year, since i've bought it. Maybe this resin is more prone to resin rot. My father is a mechanic, and wears 24/7 his gw5600 since 2011, and the resin is in a pretty good shape. Btw, the GMW has a newer module, and bluetooth is not mandatory to use. As a matter of fact i have never used it on mine. I'm talking about the all metal top of the line model. The GW b5600 are available under 150$.
The soft resin definitely wears out faster but I got nearly a decade of use out of mine, so I'm happy! For me blueooth is a gimmick, doesn't really add much to the watch.
@@onemoretime8045 Yeah, the BT is pretty much useless even without multiband. But i think most new models (except the usual dw5000 anniversary models) will probably have it.
One More Time i own the all metal one and I wear it everyday, i wouldn’t call the BT a gimmick but i get what you mean, it does make it easier to set the time when traveling however, also on my job i need to be precise with time so it is nice to know my watch is always spot on since here on new york getting it to synced up via satellite is really hard because of all the buildings and what not.
@@onemoretime8045 Before I got my GMB5600, I thought the bluetooth functions were a gimmick. But after using it for a bit, I found it very useful. Setting alarms and reminders is so easy on the smartphone, not to mention the world time cities. Even the phone finder works well! The GPS logging is also useful if you don't want to have Google maps timeline activated on your phone. I'd love to see the GW5000 updated to the new bluetooth module.
Nice review.. Is the display any better than a 5610????... I love the casio 5610 I have three in various colourways.... Thinking do I really need this watch....
Some buyers repored bad quality gw5000 during last year. Cracked/misaligned solar panel, dust inside etc.. That is the reason I still didn't buy one. And I am looking to buy one for years now..
@@onemoretime8045 haha I completly understand you :) I avoid them because most of members brace expensive watches as beautiful ones even dough it is not true most of the times. Anyway gw5000 is still my grail g shock :) I hope your watch will serve you for many more years! Cheers!
Mines is misaligned cant really help it since it is manufactured that way but if you use your watch its gonna scratch it so it balances it out got some on the gmwb5000 like meh bound to happen
Wonder if Casio USA will change your battery when it wears out. My USA Casio Pathfinder rechargeable battery wore out, would not take a full charge, in 9 years. Sent it to Casio USA and they replaced it for $30.
It happens with age. Best way to prevent that is to wash the watch after use, as sweat can accelerate the process. Also, avoid getting sunblock or bug spray on the watch as it can ruin the resin parts as well. Fortunately, replacement parts are still available and relatively cheap. New ones can be found on ebay for about $20.
Congratulations. That is my grail G Shock. As much as I like the idea of the oversized Gravity Master and Rangeman, or even the handcrafted MTG titanium limited edition models, the black titanium GMWB is wearable with anything, and won't attract attention like the others. Only you and a select few would ever know what you're wearing.
I'm surprised to see a watch succumb to resin rot after only seven years. That doesn't seem right to me, I've heard a watch can last 20 or more years without falling apart like that. Are you sure it's a natural degradation of the resin and not just you being too rough with it?
I hate that band cracking of casios it happens right at the moment when the watch feels the most comfortable changing it leaves you with this ugly mix of a shiny case and a matte band looks awful to me :/

Wore my GW-5000U in the Caribbean all last week, in the ocean for many enjoyable hours. My all-time favorite.

I doubt it's more durable, if anything it feels less durable... but the suppleness and comfort is amazing.

You hit the nail on the head. I wear G shock because I don’t wanna be bothered or bogged down with a smart phone connection.
