Watch Geek: I purchased in 1988 a new Dw-5600C-9BV, the yellow bezel & straps. I went to basic training in the United States Army and six years of duty, wear the yellow Casio the whole time. Discharged back to civilian life, wore the watch to hunt, fishing, sports etc. Until the yellow bezel fell apart and the straps gave out, I took the watch and put it in a travel bag in a closet and total forgot about it, then in 2018 I was looking for something in the same closet and it was very quite and I heard a beep come out of a travel bag, I open the pocket and behold there was my old 1988 Casio still running perfect with it's original factory battery, now April 26, 2020 it has been running for 32-years with the same battery. It now has it's own proper display on the mantle piece and never will be forgot again, one thing how much long will it run on the same battery, only "time" will tell!
It might be possible to get a replacement bezel and strap for your watch, and make it look like new again, or change to a different look. There may even be aftermarket bezels on aliexpress that can give your G Shock an entirely new life. How incredible that it was still running after 32 years. When the watch beeped in your bag after all that time, it was saying, 'hey, remember me?' Some things are meant to last forever, and that watch is one of them.
I had a GR-8900 which was my only watch for about 4 years. After that time I decided to get another G-SHOCK something more classical so I picked GW-M5610. At first I was shocked how small it was but after wearing it for a few weeks I realised it's perfect for my small (6 1/4 inch) wrist. I sold my GR-8900 and GA-1100 keeping "square" as the only G-SHOCK in my collection. Wearing it everyday to work and for all kinds of physical activities such as riding MTB, fixing car etc. It's the quintessence of a G-SHOCK. I love it so much.
I've gotten into the G-Shock fever thanks to my dad who gifted me the 5610 last year. Since then my list of G-Shock models which I want to buy has gotten so long thanks to your TH-cam channel!
got a 10 plus year old 5610 solar atomic that's had an equally hard life and is still the benchmark that I use to compare accuracy of all the watches that have rotated through my collection over the years - that quality and reliability is something that all manufacturers should strive for. The best part is that kind quality is in all G-shocks so the collector can focus on personal visual appeal without compromising reliability
My solar powered casio pro trek prw3100 is still in my wrist after 9 years of continuous use It's my only watch I wear literally for every part of my life Had tons of unbelievable stories with it Everything is working in perfect condition Huge respect for casio for making such durable watches
Your g-shock videos are why I started collecting squares. My favorites have to be the gw-5000, gw-s5600, and gw-s5600b, all because of your review you did on the -s5600.
A great g shock and a great video. I bought my first g shock in 1984, it’s the hero hockey slap shot model that saved the g shock brand. I used it daily for the first 10 years, but it’s now part of my rotation like yours. The bezel disintegrated, but I got a replica one from Brazil that is good and has lasted. I don’t even have a scratch on the crystal, the watch has been to the original gulf war and many things besides, including lifeguarding, scuba diving and wearing it whilst playing in goal as a keeper, brilliant. I will never sell it, it’s the DW5200. I have just bought a GWM-5610 for work, used, and I don’t doubt it will fit the bill perfectly, putting it through its paces, with atomic timing and solar power it is ideal for a busy CSI.
I'm a fitter and turner and work in industry with oil sparks heat cold and lost of dust, not to mention all the hammering and vibration from all the power tools, my ga 100 7yo now and replaced it last week with a brand new ga 100, I can't speak for the other models but the only thing that I needed to replace on my old ga100 was a strap that got broken off by a lath handle and the battery.
Did u forget about the cool 40a logo on light display?? Mine just took out from closet couple months ago, after bought new. Still getting use to the weight of the watch. Best watch ever. I like the shiny backing. When on wrist u can see from the side. Cool.
Been following you for some time now, but this here was my first time hearing the intro on my headphones, and boy is it good! I regularly consult your tutorials for my g shocks and I am thankful for how accessible you make this information. Thank you very much!
My first was is a G Shock Mudmaster G-9000-1VDR (G201). I love it more than any watch I own. In its own right, Casio G shock watches are the Patek Philippe of digital watches.
My favorite is definitely the Reprint which has the same 1545 module. It was as if Casio reissued the DW-5000C but improved it with thicker lugs and EL backlight. It was love at first sight. Before buying the Reprint, I looked for the Spike Lee but it was hard to find. I hear you - I’m very satisfied and may not even buy another Square (or another watch) for a long time.
I clicked on your amazon link. Damn, Amazon people think they’re gonna sell that watch for $752. You can still buy it on eBay for a little over retail value. Either way, glad I bought my watch last year.
dude, you're one lucky man that had this screw down case back square models...make sure you take good care of it...simply because it is made from metal!! a homage to the original and first g-shock ever build DW-5000C
Good review...although I really never thought that I’d hear “puke & poop” used in a watch review. Just goes to show that you are a cutting edge reviewer, I guess. Anyway, I love my 5610 and have put a NATO strap adapter on it...which I find to be more comfortable than the stock rubber strap. It certainly a great watch, and I’m sure that it will outlast me. Thanks for the great review of a all time favorite. Cheers!
Recently purchased a JDM GW-5000-1JF. Other than not being an anniversary model like this, its a screw back, stainless steel case model just the same. Obviously being a recent model, it's a Tough Solar-Multi Band 6 featured watch as well. I have no doubt it will be as long lasting as this.
Of all the screw backs I really enjoyed this one's colour palette the most, it retains the same red pinstripe with blue and gold as the DW-5000c-1a but also the border around the display is gold, which is easier on the eye than the white border of the original. The caseback looks clean as well, nice signature. Only gripe would be the bezel text, I think it should have been dark. However that is so easily fixed with a simple replacement.
I wish i could have a screwback G-Shock but for i really like the square gshock very simple and not the much small just a good size for my wrist. Thanks for this channel i really on this channel. 👌
That's why I never buy another watch after my first G-shock.(GW-M5600) They are durable as f. Didn't even replaced my solar rechargeable battery yet. Purchased in 2010.
Despite owning several other and more expensive watches, I more often then not end up putting on my DW-5600BB in the morning. It is just that good 😊 Closest competition is my DW-6600.
DW6600 was the first GShock to show up in the market where I live! My friends wore them, I sadly couldn't afford one back then so I wore a Sharp G-Super copy of it 😄
I had a 5000 and got it in 1984 I think? It went about five years before the battery died and I'm ashamed to admit I threw it in the bin! I did the same with the 5600 from about 1988 as I thought of them as disposable watches back then? I guess I should have had new batteries?
This is an aged square, you can sell it for high price. I also plan to wear my DW-5035D daily, I think it gonna end up like that in ten years, or even worse.
My favorite watch are all my casio watch.. even all my non g-shock casios are all very tough.. Even if I can afford to buy a grand seiko or or a mechanical watch I will not buy a mechanical watch again.. If a mechanical watch dropped on the hard floor for even just 1 to 2 meters it will brake into pieces but if you dropped even a non g-shock casio watch from 5 feet or more it will do no harm to casios.. Casio really is the best watch in my opinion.
Great review, love it ! b.t.w do you have any info about the PRE-GShock "DW 1400" ?? very difficult to find anything about that model, I bought it in the 80's and it still works fine.. including the screen no discoloration or leaking 👍

I was always undecided whether to purchase one as I have a smaller size wrist but after trying on a 5600 in a watch dealer I found it fitted perfectly and it cost £71 here in the UK. I purchased my 5610 in a sale for £104 which was at least £30 less than the retail price and was also pleased that it was solar powered and was radio controlled which was my main reason for choosing it over a 5600 model. Hopefully it will give me many years of service.
I have question sir I wish u answer me what I want to know is the battery life for G shock watch especially any kind of tough solar so I want to know if the battery life stay for example 5 years can you change it or from the sun light or you not gonna changer it at all my means is if it’s a tough solar it’s going to stay forever charge with sun light

I purchased my 5610 in a sale for £104 which was at least £30 less than the retail price and was also pleased that it was solar powered and was radio controlled which was my main reason for choosing it over a 5600 model. Hopefully it will give me many years of service.
Props for detailed close-ups. I have similar sentiments about my GW5000. Btw, I am wondering what the "- 0 - " symbols below the auto repeat mean?
