    Thank you so much for this tutorial! I live in Oregon and should be in range of the Ft. Collins, Colorado transmitter. But I've owned a GW-6900 for a few weeks now and haven't been able to get my watch to sync up with the signal. It's been very frustrating because, otherwise, I love this watch and I've been wearing it every day since I got it. I was just about to totally deactivate the MB6 feature completely (Casios are already pretty accurate) when I read about the possibility of syncing the watch via an app on my phone. I found your video and got it synced up for the first time!

      @TickTockTreasures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! I am so happy that my video helped ad it did a few others here in the comments. Thank you 😊
      People asked me whey I would buy a watch whose main feature I have no use for. But after the first sync (before the video wss shot) the watch never gained or lost more than 300ms which is pretty impressive. You may need to do this once a month which is not a bad deal considering it only takes 3 minutes at night with low interference.

      @briianhebert 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also have trouble getting the signal sometimes. I have found that placing the watch in an east facing window(if Ft Collins is east of you) at night will get the signal. Also you can hang the watch on a wire clothes hanger near a window at night which seems to help draw the signal like an antenna.

    I had tried it a long time ago. But the effort is not enough to justify changing the time zone, waiting for 3-10 mins for it to sync and the speaker sound is also quite irritating to be in the vicinity. I find it quite quicker to just sync manually while looking at the atomic time online like we do for all quartz watches. Just my two cents. It'd be great if India too could start with the atomic time signal broadcast. Lets just write a petition to the govt for making the atomic IST time signal available to public. LOL.

    • @TickTockTreasures
      @TickTockTreasures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. I have set all my watches by looking at the Atomic Clock and setting accordingly.
      I don't want to have sleepless nights thinking I paid to have a MB6 watch and I ain't using that feature haha.. also, being an ex-engineer geeking out on features such as these is our thing.
      Yes, let's start a petition and send it to the IT minister 😀

      @@TickTockTreasures Namaste brother, I reside in the UK and am planning to get a new classic square G-Schock. I have shortlisted model No: GW-B5600CY-1ER, a new release that has Bluetooth, solar, multi-band 6 and the updated module 3540. However, I'm confused between the GW-M5610U-1BER and GW-B5600CY-1ER. The Casio India website has The GW-B5600CY-1ER and there is one more model GMW-B5000G-1, which is similar to your JDM model. Since you are an expert, please advise which one I should pick, thanks. I can pick it up from the UK or India so both locations should be fine.

    • @TickTockTreasures
      @TickTockTreasures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @krisnaive Namaste bro! All are good watches. You have to ask yourself this- do you need Bluetooth? Do you have use for it? If yes then it is between GW-B5600 and GMW-B5000 which coincidentally arrived at my doorstep from Japan today and i was going to record the unboxing video today. I will be uploading the unboxing and first impressions video on Saturday.
      If you don't care for Bluetooth, then I highly recommend the 5610U. It has all the features of the other 2 minus the Bluetooth. This one has kind of a cult following but this has a resin core. Years from now, with rough use the lugs could break but if you take good care of your watches then it shouldn't matter as they will last for years.
      If you want some heft on your watch then it has to be the GMW-B5000. This has all the features of the other combined plus it is all metal- stainless steel case, core, band ans screwback case. This is a premium watch. As I am typing this, I am salivating because I am opening the box in a few minutes haha
      Let me know if you need more inputs

      @@TickTockTreasures Thanks a ton for your precious suggestion. I thought the new GW-5600CY has Bluetooth which can sync with my iPhone for an accurate time and I thought the 5610U is a bit old. It's just a matter of using all the features of the watch you paid money for. There's sweet pleasure when the watch receives the Atomic time at the end of the process.
      Yes, if you wouldn't want to do this you can always download the Atomic clock from the app store or playstore and manually set time as per the time shown on the app.

    The app is supposed to transmit the phone time maintaining the signal transmitting protocol of that specific station. That means the app is transmitting India time in the mode of BPC. If I'm not wrong, the watch should display India time despite the home city is selected as Beijing. Now if you switch back to Delhi, the watch should display the time which is 2.5 hours behind. Did you change the time zone of the phone first? Or the app automatically displyad China time of it's own?
    Nice Video BTW.

    • @TickTockTreasures
      @TickTockTreasures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As per instructions of the App developer, there was no need to change the time zone on the phone. The app transmits the time transmitted by BPC and for that the watch needs to be set at the corresponding time zone (either Hong Kong or Beijing).
      The button won't switch to MB reception mode if the watch is set to any time Zone that is not programmed to receive the signal. Hence, Delhi won't work.

    Additional hack to avoid the frequent hassle with receiving...
    Turn off the Multiband 6 completely, on your watch. Wait for a month and then compare your watch time with the atomic clock. See how much time your watch gets or loses per month.
    For instance, if your watch loses 1 second per month, turn on the signal receiving, get the correct time, and then wind it up forward for 6 seconds.
    That means you have to manually correct the time on your watch only every 6 months, or just twice per year.

    That's too much hassle. Why not get a G-Shock model with Bluetooth? You'll also get an opportunity to configure your watch from your smartphone. I live within the range of the German time signal transmitter, but I still find Bluetooth to be a more reliable option for synchronizing time on my G-Shock.
    Unless you really want a model that does not have Bluetooth... Unfortunately, the selection of Bluetooth-enabled G-Shocks is currently limited.

    • @TickTockTreasures
      @TickTockTreasures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have a Bluetooth G-shock on the way. You should come back to see it - it's the GMW-B5000. I am really excited to check it out.
      I wanted this 5000U for multiple reasons which I explained in the unboxing video. Being an ex communications engineer, I find great pleasure in doing what I did here. I mean, we have done super complex projects in grad school, so this felt fun. But, I will explore the Bluetooth feature in my next one, hopefully in 2 weeks' time 😃

    • @vatazhka
      @vatazhka 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @TickTockTreasures You'll like it. Radio time signal is such an outdated technology that there are proposals to sunset it every now and then. I appreciate that you like to tinker (I still like to myself 20 years after my graduation.), but Bluetooth sync works 100% automatically twice a day at the expense of having another app running on your smartphone in the background. For me, it's a winner - I no longer have to place my watch at the windowsill for the night, as these are the prerequisites for the successful reception of DCF77 signal in my place.

    I do not understand; the watch receives an RF signal to set time, so it should not have anything to do with the phone's speaker - which, while audio it is a waveform, is effectively energy propagating through air molecules as opposed to an RF signal which is a combination of electric and magnetic waveforms at righ angles to each other. Additionally, the watch's radio receives time transmissions via specific frequencies, and even though the phone is a radio, I am not sure it can transmit RF at the required frequencies. Somehow, after watching this video it does seem to work - I am just not sure how it works. Gosh thinking about this as I am typing, if the phone is somehow able to transmit an RF signal that the watch can pick up, it should not matter which time station you select - the phone should be capable of setting the watch based on its own time within the same time zone you are in. I am not doubting the veracity of this video - I am just confused about the technology involved. LOL I have the GW-5000u - and in fact it is my favorite watch - and I am also somewhat familiar with RF transmissions, being a ham radio operator. I am just not sure how this would work is all. LOL

      If you being a Ham radio operator has you mind boggled imagine me haha
      I racked my brains when I saw this being done on TH-cam. I had questions just like you did. The app is specific about keeping the phone volume up for this process to work which got me confused. I was so excited about this watch that I didn't think of trying this without the sound ON to see if it worked. I might just try that this week.
      Based on what I read, the app picks up the Atomic time from the NTP server via the Internet and transmits the time data as sound wave. But I am confused as to how the receiver in the watch that is designed to pick up radio waves of set frequencies receives sound waves of the same frequencies. I need to revisit my grad school lectures haha

      Yea, I am curious as well; in fact you have inspired me to do some experimentation with my own watch and phone as well. We should compare notes.

      @TickTockTreasures I believe that the part of a circuit connected to the speaker emits radio frequency signals that can be manipulated to mimic time sync signals by playing sounds at specific frequencies at the right time. This is known as TEMPEST.

    Aber Du könntest es Dir einfacher machen und eine Zeitzone auf BEJ einstellen und dann auf HT "swappen". Das ginge wahrscheinlich schneller, oder? 😉

    No need for app. Put watch on radiator or something with metal frame. You could even boost through a coaxial to attenna touchingback plate of the watch. 😊

    All these towers should ideally be transmitting in GMT only, and then let the watch translate that according to the time zone set on the watch. There shouldn't be any need to have the home time match the tower time.
