If you haven't played it mate, it looks decent but it's alot better than it looks. I bought it just to play something, didn't care how good it was, was just bored as hell. Ended up being really enjoyable.

Random favorite little detail of mine. The pause screens show a day counter since the fall of the world and it goes up for each day/night cycle you go through. But a weird little detail I found I like is in flashbacks if you pause the day counter is at “0 days gone”
@Top Noodle Good to hear that. I think Days Gone is an Unreal Engine 4 title. Probably much easier to optimize than Horizon Zero Dawn was. Plus, the whole game originally being designed around base PS4's limits probably provided some extra breathing room for decent mid-range builds.

Originally Days gone had story altering choices but they cut those aspects out which leaves the story of the game a little off as there are moments that feel best described as feeling a little "off".
The creators of the game removed it because it didn't fit with the direction the game was going, so they removed. There is a interview on David Jaffes channel with the creators of Days Gone and they bring it up.
Yeah, like learning the wife was still alive and you finally - halfway through the game - go to meet her - and they're both acting like they've never seen each other before. It was so jarring I thought I had had a blackout or something and was missing hours of exposition or had dreamed up the whole thing. I've been hearing hours of dialogue, visiting her grave, seeing her in backflashes, getting to know that very special and interesting person...and here she is! In the flesh! Alive and well! and Deacon's like, "Nah, I'm good."
I actually think Deacon is a great character. His portrayal as someone who is maniacally going back and forth from "my wife is dead, no way she survived" to "she must still be alive, there's gotta be hope" and the way he doesn't want to get too attached to any of the communities seems pretty realistic, given the circumstances. And (not spoiling anything) because of those moments when he does drop his guard and gets a little bit comfortable with someone and does something good, at the end of the game the others support him as well when he ends up needing some assistance. Sure, he doesn't change too much throughout the game, but by the time you're finished with the story, it is clear his "lone wolf" mentality was wrong and he obviously gets straight up proven wrong. And that's a totally fine resolution. The story is just a slice of these characters' lives, and that's what ultimately led me to fall in love with the game!
This is a damn good game that never got given the fair shake it deserved by a lot of people, the slow start convinced tons of people the whole game was boring but after you get past those early parts it's fucking amazing to play. Deacon is a great character as well, i love his insane ramblings as he narrates everything he does because it makes sense for the guy to be at least a little crazy after two years of constant stress and freak attacks.
The developers spoke about how they wanted to go deeper and explore his ramblings, saying how it was caused by his PTSD and the post apocalypse that happened.
I was turned off by some major game review sites when this first came out on ps4. Recently just started playing on ps5 and you know what despite its flaws it’s a solid game . It does suffer from the usual open world repetitive type missions that can feel like a chore if you do them back to back but nothing beats mowing down a horde of the infected. This game deserves a sequel with some improvements. I feel like settlements needing to be defended from hordes would be a cool mechanic and having to deal with the aftermath of a settlement you couldn’t save would be neat.
Played through this game on PS5 and it was legitimately one of my favorite games of all time. Please give this game a chance. It might be the most under appreciated game I’ve ever played. It was extremely addictive and just such a joy to play. Incredible graphics and sound too. I’d do anything I could to encourage a sequel.

Honestly the most enjoyment I have had from the game and pretty close but sadly tech issues again. Patches for sure incoming. Microstuttering which you may see here. Tested on 3 machines with 3 drivers. FPS wise its...not always bad in fact many times it is good but it has some issues. That being said..man at times I really had a good time PLEASE SHARE! I almost stopped playing after the first 3 or 4 hours. But as soon as I started to get decent upgrades things picked up and I ended up liking it about one third in.

I just finished fhe game. I did everything and my God, what an experience. It was intense. This game is amazing. Played it on PS4 and i had no issues except for some framerate drops but nothing dramatic. The hordes are impressive and it is a adrenaline rush. Wonderful. 9/10.

Got this on PS5 through PS+ and my biggest complaint about the game is that when i check the time it's always bedtime for me. This game really is Days Gone.
I've been playing it since release on PC and I haven't run into any frame issues whatsoever. Count myself lucky I guess. Also, friggin loving this game. Only complaint is the lack of Co-op. Now that would be sweet. :)
Absolutely true. Never have I played a game on my pc, gotten over 60fps and thought to myself "Damn those extra frames really just ruins my experience"
Sure it can, however it's in fps games where that shines. It hardly does anything for me on these 3rd person single player games. 60 fps is enough, above that it's all about more eye candy.

This was for me, one of the greatest game story/plots of all time up there with Arthur Morgan. Another game that got you to love the characters. 10/10 for me. I liked Decon, did ya see how happy he was in the end. he fought hard for that and well deserved.
I played it on my PS4 pro just when covid started last year and I freaking loved it! The open world, the feeling of being out there during pandemic times in real and fiction and the awesome story.
i just bought this game on december 2021 for the first time ever, the game is amazing, probably the third best game i have ever played in my life (top 2 are gtav and rdr2) i have an i9 11900k, rtx 3080, 32gb ram, game runs like butter no issues at all so they might have fixed all the problems mentioned in this review again, PHENOMENAL title, 10/10
So I got this as a freebie with PS Plus, and I'm running it on the PS4 pro. Other than the occasional misplaced open world dialog, I haven't hit any issues. It's much more fun than I thought it would be when it was released, and its waaaaay longer than I expected. It's a thumbs up from me.
I mean to be honest, every other review (even steam user reviews) have said it is an awesome port. The issues ACG is talking about unfortunately could be only related to him like the vsync problem.
It has basically some stuttering issues and that too once or twice in long sessions as per acg..I think that's quite ok because most of the games have fps drops ..btw I don't understand why acg is worried so much about high GPU usage ..max any this gen game When it comes to graphical settings and your gpu usage will be fairly high..
I played it through on my PS4 Pro several times I’m looking forward to playing it on PC even if there are issues. Unfortunately steam is having issues for me right now so I’ll have to sleep instead of cranking the difficulty all the way up and stumbling into a horde unprepared in the middle of the night. So glad that you got the review out so quickly, it didn’t disappoint.

I highly recommend this game. I know when it first came out it did not meet standards and it was held back, but after playing on ps5 I would highly recommend it. Idk if I would play full price, but would definitely get it for the story and hordes of zombies.

Please include the audio examples you usually provide when you talk about the music, voice and sound. These are usually my favorite part of your review since so many other reviewers ignore it and its a huge part of the game (the part I personally care about most...). Great review as always. It's a very good game. I'm glad there is some subtle thought put into design of open world and not over doing it, like some other titles. It's mainstream critics score isn't reflected on that. ACG does a great job for reviews,as we all know.
I am currently replaying it on PS5. I have a PC as well. It is a really good first entry. I have noticed the bike controls way better at 60fps. Hopefully any issues get patched soon for PC players. One thing I noticed is characters don't actually walk down stairs. They float about a couple of inches above ground and once you see it you can't unsee it.

I love this game, i served in iraq with the same unit as Deacon St. john. 10th MTN INF. That automatically makes me like him more than most charachters. Not just that though, hes a badass and i really enjoyed the story and gameplay. This is a 10/10 zombie game for me.
I just watched IGN's review, I was kinda snoozing thru it while I was listening. Two minutes into this video and I'm already up and moving, trying to figure out where I buried my PS4 so I might reanimate its bones, re-download this game and go for a ride... Good stuff man, keep it up!

Game is awesome! Add some mods and you will have an incredible time. Story, characters, tension, weapons, gore, cruising.. everything was perfect for me. One of the best games in a long time
Just played the first hour on a 10850K+3090. No Vsync issues, but gpu usage is too high on 4K 60. Tried unlocked and was hovering between 90 to 135fps. Gonna wait for a couple of patches before going back. I have the PS4 version and all it's credit to the developers for fixing it's issues. Let's hope the same attention goes into this version. Alls you need for your playthrough is a couple mods.... better knife damage, better crossbow damage, faster bike... just them 3 will make a huge difference in a playthrough, still a great game regardless but for a first timer I'd definitely suggest them 3 tweaks
A lot of your criticisms make me want a sequel even more. Like just make a game in the same vein, but polish out the rough edges and complete some of the ideas they left on the floor.
The foundation is really strong. My hopes for DG2 would've been a character creator, survivor management similar to State of Decay, and story altering rpg moments. I feel like DG was judged a bit harshly for being a Sony first party title coming in the wake of TLOU. If you what you've seen looks appealing I'd say it's worth a buy. My hope is that maybe the PC version sales will make Sony reconsider the cancellation of the sequel.

i found it in the clearance section of cd keys for 6 bucks and figured why not. My wife played this game consistently on the ps5 and my PC rig was powerful enough to overcome all the quirky performance issues (i9 12900k, 64gb, 4070s, LG OLED). think you nailed the review, and i could never explain why i had so much fun playing this game... i always said it had just enough of everything to keep me playing and looks great to the point that i don't care its not perfect. and i don't even know how that makes any sense...
Just wanna clarify: the optimisation on this game is actually very impressive. I'm able to get a stable 60 FPS in 1080p high settings on my ancient machine: i7 3770, GTX 970 One of the best looking + running games I've seen in a long, long time. We usually get one or the other.

I'm currently playing the game myself on my PC and I'm blown away that my GTX 1080 is handling this game with buttery smooth framerates, and the visual fidelity is just breath taking. This is such a great game to play in a market where it's impossible to find an rtx card. definitly enjoying my time and I can't wait to do a complete walkthrough.
Great game except the bike runs out of gas way too fast. Regardless of how available the fuel is, it doesn't matter when you are out in the sticks at night.
Man I hope there's a sequel. This game has so much potential as a series. It's literally the only zombie game I've found intimidating. Plus the camps genuinely split me morally.
I am on my final mission now, playing on PS4, and I have loved the game. I avoided it until now because of the issues reported when it was released, but, honestly, minus a few quick stutters here and there (very rarely and easily ignorable), I have only encountered 2 bugs.. both graphical, as in one instance, a woman was hovering above her bed while sleeping. So basically, they fixed the bugs, as well as the AI, which is quite good. Bike handles extremely well (a rarity in games for some reason) and the weapons are fun to use. I mean, if anyone avoided it until now because of bugs when it first came out, try it now. It's one of the most memorable titles I've played in a while.
Days gone was great once patched on ps4. I had such a great time with it, really liked the story, loved deacon, loved the bike riding and shooting. The game felt great to play and is worth anyone’s time who is willing to give it

SPOILERS!!! I always thought a cool sequel idea would be that because of the Nero injections Deacon takes over the course of the game, he starts turning into one of the elevated freakers like the doctor. Think about it, injections of health, stamina, and slowmo all sound like performance enhancers like what the infection was originally supposed to be.

I recently finished this on PS4 and really enjoyed it. As usual you’re bang on the money. I’d give it a buy though. But I get your reasoning, especially after being burned the first time.
I agree with him. Yes it is better optimized than Horizon was at release but there are still hiccups here and there. For example, I was able to play Horizon at 4K from the very beginning, while this game for me is unplayable at 4K and I’m locked in at 1080 p. Plus I have been able to get barely past 30 FPS in this game, while at highest graphics on Horizon I’m getting 60+ FPS. Horizon had option for remapping controller buttons while this game doesn’t (I don’t want to use left trigger to run but am forced to). So yeah, while i noticed it is better optimized there are still some issues.
I'm well into the game and it's rock solid. I like ACG reviews but to say it's not well optimized is ridiculous. In fact I would say the PC he reviewed it on is the culprit. I'm well into the game and it's fantastically solid. It literally makes me wonder if he played much of it or if he forgot he was still playing on a 1080Ti instead of a 2080 Ti
I like using a mouse and keyboard when shooting and a controller when on foot. I'm glad it's really easy to switch between the two and there is no prompt you have to go through

Really enjoyed the game, especially on a harder difficulty it was scary to run out of gas at night. Watching the shadows grow longer in the game made me get nervous and worry how much daylight I had left in game.
One of the best open world games that lets the player decide when and for how long he plays. You can even pause cut scenes if I remember correctly. I appreciate that

This game deserves a sequel with some improvements. I feel like settlements needing to be defended from hordes would be a cool mechanic and having to deal with the aftermath of a settlement you couldn’t save would be neat.

Played through this game on PS5 and it was legitimately one of my favorite games of all time. Please give this game a chance. It might be the most under appreciated game I’ve ever played. It was extremely addictive and just such a joy to play. Incredible graphics and sound too. I’d do anything I could to encourage a sequel.

Honestly the most enjoyment I have had from the game and pretty close but sadly tech issues again. Patches for sure incoming. Microstuttering which you may see here. Tested on 3 machines with 3 drivers. FPS wise its...not always bad in fact many times it is good but it has some issues. That being said..man at times I really had a good time

I just finished fhe game. I did everything and my God, what an experience. It was intense. This game is amazing. Played it on PS4 and i had no issues except for some framerate drops but nothing dramatic. The hordes are impressive and it is a adrenaline rush. Wonderful. 9/10.

Got this on PS5 through PS+ and my biggest complaint about the game is that when i check the time it's always bedtime for me.
This game really is Days Gone.
I've been playing it since release on PC and I haven't run into any frame issues whatsoever. Count myself lucky I guess.
Also, friggin loving this game. Only complaint is the lack of Co-op. Now that would be sweet. :)

I really dont know how he doesnt have a mill already. The depth is amazing and he is insanely eloquent and has a superb sense of humor. He got my sub on the first video I watched which was in my suggested years ago. When I want to know about a game, my first thought is "I wonder if ACG has done a review..." Always super stoked when he has.
This was for me, one of the greatest game story/plots of all time up there with Arthur Morgan. Another game that got you to love the characters. 10/10 for me. I liked Decon, did ya see how happy he was in the end. he fought hard for that and well deserved.
I Do love Bend Studios they made the Syphon Filter games which I grew up loving. Even the writer of this game wrote those games as well.

I played it on my PS4 pro just when covid started last year and I freaking loved it! The open world, the feeling of being out there during pandemic times in real and fiction and the awesome story.

i have an i9 11900k, rtx 3080, 32gb ram, game runs like butter no issues at all so they might have fixed all the problems mentioned in this review

So I got this as a freebie with PS Plus, and I'm running it on the PS4 pro. Other than the occasional misplaced open world dialog, I haven't hit any issues. It's much more fun than I thought it would be when it was released, and its waaaaay longer than I expected. It's a thumbs up from me.
It’s a shame that it has some issues, it looked like they were putting a lot of effort into it. Hopefully they can clear them up soon!

I mean to be honest, every other review (even steam user reviews) have said it is an awesome port. The issues ACG is talking about unfortunately could be only related to him like the vsync problem.

It has basically some stuttering issues and that too once or twice in long sessions as per acg..I think that's quite ok because most of the games have fps drops ..btw I don't understand why acg is worried so much about high GPU usage ..max any this gen game When it comes to graphical settings and your gpu usage will be fairly high..
I played it through on my PS4 Pro several times I’m looking forward to playing it on PC even if there are issues. Unfortunately steam is having issues for me right now so I’ll have to sleep instead of cranking the difficulty all the way up and stumbling into a horde unprepared in the middle of the night.

I highly recommend this game. I know when it first came out it did not meet standards and it was held back, but after playing on ps5 I would highly recommend it. Idk if I would play full price, but would definitely get it for the story and hordes of zombies.

It's a very good game. I'm glad there is some subtle thought put into design of open world and not over doing it, like some other titles. It's mainstream critics score isn't reflected on that. ACG does a great job for reviews,as we all know.
I am currently replaying it on PS5. I have a PC as well. It is a really good first entry. I have noticed the bike controls way better at 60fps. Hopefully any issues get patched soon for PC players. One thing I noticed is characters don't actually walk down stairs. They float about a couple of inches above ground and once you see it you can't unsee it.

I love this game, i served in iraq with the same unit as Deacon St. john. 10th MTN INF. That automatically makes me like him more than most charachters. Not just that though, hes a badass and i really enjoyed the story and gameplay. This is a 10/10 zombie game for me.

Just played the first hour on a 10850K+3090. No Vsync issues, but gpu usage is too high on 4K 60. Tried unlocked and was hovering between 90 to 135fps. Gonna wait for a couple of patches before going back. I have the PS4 version and all it's credit to the developers for fixing it's issues. Let's hope the same attention goes into this version. Great video 👍

Alls you need for your playthrough is a couple mods.... better knife damage, better crossbow damage, faster bike... just them 3 will make a huge difference in a playthrough, still a great game regardless but for a first timer I'd definitely suggest them 3 tweaks
A lot of your criticisms make me want a sequel even more. Like just make a game in the same vein, but polish out the rough edges and complete some of the ideas they left on the floor.
The foundation is really strong. My hopes for DG2 would've been a character creator, survivor management similar to State of Decay, and story altering rpg moments.
I feel like DG was judged a bit harshly for being a Sony first party title coming in the wake of TLOU. If you what you've seen looks appealing I'd say it's worth a buy.
My hope is that maybe the PC version sales will make Sony reconsider the cancellation of the sequel.

i found it in the clearance section of cd keys for 6 bucks and figured why not. My wife played this game consistently on the ps5 and my PC rig was powerful enough to overcome all the quirky performance issues (i9 12900k, 64gb, 4070s, LG OLED). think you nailed the review, and i could never explain why i had so much fun playing this game... i always said it had just enough of everything to keep me playing and looks great to the point that i don't care its not perfect. and i don't even know how that makes any sense...

I'm currently playing the game myself on my PC and I'm blown away that my GTX 1080 is handling this game with buttery smooth framerates, and the visual fidelity is just breath taking. This is such a great game to play in a market where it's impossible to find an rtx card. definitly enjoying my time and I can't wait to do a complete walkthrough.
Great game except the bike runs out of gas way too fast. Regardless of how available the fuel is, it doesn't matter when you are out in the sticks at night.
Man I hope there's a sequel. This game has so much potential as a series. It's literally the only zombie game I've found intimidating. Plus the camps genuinely split me morally.

I am on my final mission now, playing on PS4, and I have loved the game. I avoided it until now because of the issues reported when it was released, but, honestly, minus a few quick stutters here and there (very rarely and easily ignorable), I have only encountered 2 bugs.. both graphical, as in one instance, a woman was hovering above her bed while sleeping. So basically, they fixed the bugs, as well as the AI, which is quite good. Bike handles extremely well (a rarity in games for some reason) and the weapons are fun to use. I mean, if anyone avoided it until now because of bugs when it first came out, try it now. It's one of the most memorable titles I've played in a while.

Days gone was great once patched on ps4. I had such a great time with it, really liked the story, loved deacon, loved the bike riding and shooting. The game felt great to play and is worth anyone’s time who is willing to give it

I always thought a cool sequel idea would be that because of the Nero injections Deacon takes over the course of the game, he starts turning into one of the elevated freakers like the doctor. Think about it, injections of health, stamina, and slowmo all sound like performance enhancers like what the infection was originally supposed to be.

I agree with him. Yes it is better optimized than Horizon was at release but there are still hiccups here and there. For example, I was able to play Horizon at 4K from the very beginning, while this game for me is unplayable at 4K and I’m locked in at 1080 p. Plus I have been able to get barely past 30 FPS in this game, while at highest graphics on Horizon I’m getting 60+ FPS. Horizon had option for remapping controller buttons while this game doesn’t (I don’t want to use left trigger to run but am forced to). So yeah, while i noticed it is better optimized there are still some issues.
I'm well into the game and it's rock solid. I like ACG reviews but to say it's not well optimized is ridiculous. In fact I would say the PC he reviewed it on is the culprit. I like using a mouse and keyboard when shooting and a controller when on foot. I'm glad it's really easy to switch between the two and there is no prompt you have to go through

Really enjoyed the game, especially on a harder difficulty it was scary to run out of gas at night. Watching the shadows grow longer in the game made me get nervous and worry how much daylight I had left in game.
