I actually found the narrative oddly enjoyable. There’s one sidequest that COMPLETELY threw me off because I was assuming it would be another generic “save a guy” task, and the game makes it like it IS another boring “save a guy” task, only to pull the rug under you and replace it with... something surprising. It’s been a while since a game was able to trick me like this. There’s definitely heart in this one. And the gear mod system is better than any game of the genre. You can start creating fairly sophisticated skill builds very early, something that other games of it’s kind will not let you do till the endgame, if ever. Also, weapon variants are great, allowing you to be flexible with your gun’s behaviour.

Honestly pretty stupid that it's always online. Heard that and did a 180. I liked the demo, flaws and all, but I've had my fill of getting disconnected mid mission or mid boss fight. And now its suffering from Destiny Patch Syndrome, because it's 2021 and we can't have a defacto decent game with honorable practices
Perfect review for this game. As someone who has beaten the main story already despite the connectivity issues, I'd recommend that everyone who just now heard about this game: wait. Wait until they fix the known bugs and hopefully their cutscenes (surprised the absolute janky cutscenes weren't mentioned in this review). And wait until the server issues are 100% fixed. There's no greater pain than finally killing a bullet sponge only to be forced to redo the fight because of connectivity issues.
@@Stanwize I'm not talking about camera shake really. Weird movements and out of sync action cutaways plague the story. Not to mention late animations, weird fabric physics, and I swear the cutscenes don't fade to black early enough. There's always one frame where a character turns stiff and other animations just slam to a stop.
This game has had a disastrous start and you make good points about concerns about the game yet I can't put it down. I know I'm not the only one since it's in the top 5 on steam right now. This game is just fun and the options for customization of your weapons and armor and the different play styles within classes is impressive. The challenge, the fun factor and the loot keep me coming back for more.
love playing as trickster. Sniping what I can from a distance while they try to close the gap... only to realize they F-ed up, running up on a trickster. Or if they were staying in cover and/or sniping me, teleporting behind them and watching the hope fade from their faces... alongside with the rest of the bodies/skeletons.
Without the connectivity issues this game is an easy instant recommendation for me. It's very fun. I quite like the voice acting and writing, the story is ok, the levels are fun, the guns and gunplay, especially with mods, are satisfying. But the tech issues are just unreal. Trying to play on PC with a friend has been a nightmare- we just stopped for the day because we just couldn't keep going. Hourly disconnects, horrible lag that has me jumping all around the map and unable to dodge enemy abilities, glitches where my entire interface disappears and won't come back without a restart, a few instances where we would fast-travel to a new area but end up in different places, frequent game crashes from trying to turn in quests or just because... There are a lot of issues. Hopefully the devs can get it figured out in the next week and it won't be so frustrating.
13 hours in the full version so far, after 18 hours with the demo, and I don't regret buying it. I'm having way more than enough fun to overlook a lot of the issues.
This game should have had single player without online as an option. And also they could have let u play the story with bot controlled team. Sometimes we could do without online team and chill with bot team.
Absolutely zero interest in a game that could have its service shut down at any time. When I buy a game I want to know that it's mine whether or not I have an internet connection a month from now or 10 years from now. I know it’s not just this genre and you can see it coming in other genres as well, but pretty much every looter shooter has been chasing borderlands success and only warframe has come close. It’s such a difficult genre to get right because you can have all the loot in the world but if it isn’t fun or interesting (like most of the litter shooters) it doesn’t matter. I’ve heard destiny 2 has it’s fans, but I found it as generic and boring as the first one, but could see that as another example next to warframe that pulled it off. Everything else destiny, the division 1-2, anthem, the avengers etc (even assassins creed to an extent without the shooter aspect) and now this game are just boring and generic, even the loot aspect of great games like god of war just seems boring and tacked on. A loot system is very hard to get right in non or non traditional mmos
glad there's still someone actually covering technical issues in details instead of mentioning them by the end of the review without barely any explanation, thanks ACG
It's not that surprising honestly. Most people buy games according to their own standards, not because some random youtuber said so. Why would they sub if they only looked for that one specific review about the game they were on edge about.
@@jariolavilipponen3500 i'd say it's the complete opposite these days, many people make purchases based on TH-camr reviews or other types of reviews on the internet. having someone give their opinion on a product is always helpful to a potential buyer, even if they don't agree with it. and saying these are just "Some random TH-camr" drastically downplays what Reviewers actually have to do to get videos like this out. Sure it's a person you don't know, but they put in so much time and effort to play these games, while thinking about the different criteria for a review, and then going to make the video itself. So yes they are "Random TH-camrs" But they have a valid opinion.
@@jariolavilipponen3500 just to add to what everyone is saying, I think the average consumer doesn't have the time or experience quite often. I am straight up addicted to this game. Been playing it non stop since launch. The first few hours are super weak but once you get abilities and loot, it is awesome. It's better than most of its competition with a fraction of the budget. Also I've somehow not faced many server issues while playing the game so there's that. Maybe 3 disconnects in the first 2 days but nothing since then.
The fact that you can grind out earlier missions to raise world tier is awesome. The game can be annoying but it’s starting to come together. You’re right though beginning was meh
I really liked the skill trees in this game. They give you the options to really customize how you wanna play, and the skills actually have an impact on gameplay. Im shocked to hear people say they don't like it. I cant think of a shooter with a better one
One of my subscribers just gifted me this game on Steam yesterday, and because I wanted to understand what I was getting into before I launched the game, as I always have for the past 7 or so years, I go to your review video first. It's not only because you're so frank, it's because your reviews are always informative. I have never commented on any of your videos before, but do know that I've been watching them for years and years. The best thing about it is as I say, "You never know the shit that is gonna come out of his mouth", and I've always loved that about your reviews, during the review in particular where you went on an almost semi-creepy diatribe over alien nut sacks. I loved it, expected it, and I will always have always enjoyed your rants. Now I know a bit about the game I'm about to play. I have, as I said, always enjoyed your channel, and I would love to support you on Patreon, but I'm also a struggling TH-cam gamer, and need support myself to get by. I know the struggle. I'm a PC gamer as well, and just t his paycheck I had to drop $150 just for yet another new Xbox controller and headset as I was sick of the JBL Headset I had being literally held together by duct tape for the last six months. Viewers don't realize how ghetto-rigged our setups can become over time lol. I won't even get into my franken-PC, because I'm sure yours is the same; the strange mutation of Asus and Intel gangbanging MSI and Nvidia for space in my tower. You're real, and I get it. Keep it up, and thank you for the vid. Maybe some day we can work together on something. Peace- -Darkdally
I feel like the sound is pretty immersive, especially abilities. As an actor I actually also thought the main male VA did a pretty good job. Enjoying the story too. Connectivity and multiplayer is a huge issue on ps5 though.
I don't really care what topic Karak talks about, I'm here for the writing and the humor. "They're called skills trees because they can die and fall over, like this one" 🤣
I always love ACG's reviews. In depth, great jokes and almost ALWAYS a wait for a sale........With a 3% must buy percentage per year. Keep up the good work.
Been playing this game for maybe 6-8 hours now. I would have mentioned something about how well they do the coop campaign. If we ignore the connection issues, they way they map progress is really well done. Someone triggers a quest, creating a vote for the other players. It brings everyone in to the cutscenes. And those pesky dialogue scenes when the player has to make a choice? Each person is brought in to their own version once they start the dialogue. I was really impressed by this as not many games can do it right.
This one wasn't on my radar but the thing that sticks out to me is how it seems like the movement and overall combat really feels like Gears of War. Which is rarer than it should be, it seems like most cover shooters forgot that the movement is part of what made Gears work. Definitely interested, I'll wait for a price drop and some patches.
@@ACGreviews I'm curious to see how people enjoy the endgame. I've never been hooked by looter shooters but this one is fun - though, what a damn mess of a launch. I wonder what is going on between Square and PCF here, and where the issue lies.
Great review as usual. ACG mentions this game is on PC, Xbox, and PS4. Note: This game is on PS5, too. Another thing, I would not consider this a “single player game”. While it can be played that way, it is better enjoyed as a co-op experience. When it is firing on all cylinders it is a blast, but the technical issues have definitely set this title back a bit.
I have been waiting in anticipation for this review. It was everything I wanted and needed. Thanks for your thoughts and insight! I'll be a doubtrider, until this drastically improves.
Wow, I have never experienced any issues you brought up, I bought the game yesterday (4.4) so maybe some of it got fixed but I have been enjoying the game so far.
I definitely had some fun with the demo on PS5 and PC but I’m for sure going to wait for a sale. The combat can be super enjoyable but I found that some classes are definitely far more fun to use compared to others, the Trickster for example, but with the server issues (always online) and performance issues. Also the story and voice acting kinda put me off so much that I caught myself just skipping cutscenes. I’m going to hold off until it goes on sale.
"They're called skill trees because the die and fall over." Lol Karik, I don't know where you come up with this stuff review after review, but you are the man. Thanks for doing what you do.
I'll wait 4 to 6 months when it drops to $20 or so and try it then. No interest in multiplayer but single player for $20 it seems ok. No shortage of games to tide me over until it drops to a fair price.
This kind of games really need "True Offline Mode" so people still can enjoy the game on release smoothly, even if it's just the story campaign. MHW managed to soften the online connection problem because of this, sure as hell people very happy with MH Rise too.
I had no interest for this game. But since it's on gamepass I gave it a go with a friend and we are enjoying it more than expected. The combat is gritty and challenging, the story and characters are fully voiced surprisingly good and deep but doesn't take itself too seriously and has plenty of humor, which is good. The world is cool, Trench Town, anyone? Leveling up feels good. Optimizing your gear and abilities is impactful, and the armor sets look good. It's a good game.
Yeah when I played that demo or beta or whatever like a month ago I just felt like it was missing so much to the world and the gameplay, I hope they turn it around cause it's a world I want to experience but not in the current state.
FYI: most annoyances are gone with the 10.40. Patch... (For me...) in 50 Hours: One UE4 Crash and one Disconnect... One HUNT Boss Battle Bugged out... leaving me the Loot... but needed to replay that one... And One loss of a Checkpoint... Like always... good Review...
lol it seems nearly every game reviewer played as the guy main character, I tried him for a bit and yes to voice acting comes off flat. The chick main however doesn't, in fact I really enjoyed her voice acting.
I just find it hard to justify buying Outriders when I already regularly play games like Warframe, Borderlands 3, and The Division 2. Feels like buying a 4th car when I already drive 3.
I'm a computer systems engineer. I've been playing video games since PONG was released in September, 1975. Let me give you ALL a word of advice. The computer ENTERTAINMENT industry has different laws than the computer BUSINESS APPLICATION industry. If a business application was developed for a consumer, and it didn't work as described, you can sue them out of existence, especially if you can prove damages. In the computer ENTERTAINMENT industry its different. Application developers can get away with blue murder because its ENTERTAINMENT so its like a "Buyer Beware" model legally speaking. With that being said - NEVER EVER EVER EVER BUY PRE RELEASES OF GAMES AND NEVER EVER EVER EVER BUY GAMES ON DAY ONE LAUNCH. YOU are going to end up PAYING TO BE the beta tester and the developer is going to count on your feedback to beta test the game. If a game says its going to release on Jan 1st, wait until August before even thinking about buying it. This gives THE FOOLS that bought it pre-release or day one to beta test it for the developer and work out the bugs. Also, you can see the bug fix history and feedback the longer you wait, meaning should you buy the game later, its MUCH CLOSER to the "As Described" advertising for the product. Or the game may be completely gone - can you say "Anthem"?
Truly a fascinating game. Although it may fail in terms of polish compared to some other looter shooters, this is the most engaging and fun time I've ever had in the genre.
Still the best place with AngryJoe for reviews. Thank you for this one. My friends and I have been on the fence for a while and will wait for this one.
Really nice review, I'd say you hit the marks on how the game is at this point. Tho I personally think the voice actors are good, the terrible jokes hit well and the story has a really cool theme. I hope you'll make a review about the end game too, since that wasn't mentioned :P.
I think you should have probably mentioned that cover in the game isn’t for you. It’s for the enemies, and I can count on one hand how many times I actually needed to use it. The cross button doesn’t get used while I’m playing lol
Best reviews on the internet. I honestly had and have no desire to ever play this game.. but your game reviews are just so damn entertaining I figure, eh.. what the hell. And I'm never disappointed. You are appreciated brother.
Biggest problem is that endgame is all time based so if you rolled a tank you need to reroll. But i reached ct13 on warden via silver ct12, so its fun to make up builds and try to make it work.
Your completely right. If you have game pass then check it out but it's not worth the £60 price tag. I have been playing it on Xbox and when it's working its ok but as soon as I start getting into it I get a server error. They say it's not a live service but it kinda is. For playing solo there is no reason to be online. It just feels dated. The main thing for me is the movement. I'm used to destiny movement and this feels like you have grav boots on.
Usually I agree with the reviewers about most games but this is one I fully disagree on. To start the connection problems were trash no denying. The coop still doesn't seem to work well. But I played through the campaign and some end game content and I freaking love the game play. The loot is cool and making your build is awesome. Never played a game were you fight as many enamies at once and it's great. Wish it was not online only
It’s got cool elements! It’s a terrible experience on PC for me so far 🥲 - feels like a fun, mindless arcade looter shooter so I guess that’s what they were going for. I might get it on Xbox Game pass later on

@@dvornikovalexei I found that game to be utter trash lol.
@@DannyboyO1 I agree with you. Even with fully upgraded weapons and armor the spikes are ruthless lol. But higher tiers in a zone I’m replaying missions in doesn’t seem too hard

Thank you for the review, Karak! You're the only reviewer I trust! Picked up Disco Elysium because of your review and it is fantastic! I wouldn't have even tried it if it wasn't for you. Thanks again!!!
Me too!!
That game is awesome
It's really fine.
Already 30 hours played and there's option to stop camera shake.
People are just fuking drama queens.
If you're grinding a looter shooter and are worried about skip able cutscenes, maybe playing the wrong genre 🤔
It is already fixed. Works fine.
There's an option for cutscene smoothness, ramp it up to 100 and its not janky
It's one of the most played games on steam right now. How is that even close to disastrous?
love playing as trickster.
12:12 my man murdering bass guitarists like they don't matter.
If they added a offline mode I'd definitely buy this game in a heartbeat. Until then I guess I'll continue playing BL2.
It's online only ?😰
Why not BL3?
Yeah the online requirement to be able to this game was a huge buzzkill for me.
I'll never understand forcing players to be online for single player games/modes.
@@Dr.Moogle I love BL3 but there isn't really much to do atm. Hopefully the new dlc will be good enough to bring players back.
Absolutely zero interest in a game that could have its service shut down at any time. When I buy a game I want to know that it's mine whether or not I have an internet connection a month from now or 10 years from now. Up until the last few years, that's what it meant to me to own a game. Thanks as always for the coverage ACG, always appreciate the work that you put in and the consistent perspective
@@shabath since I switched to PC I "own" most of my games. Only way they stop being mine is if every torrent link it scrubbed from the internet and all of my hard drives explode
I've thoroughly enjoyed this game. It HAD some connection issues on day 1, but apart from that, I can't get enough.
One of the biggest problems with this game is how much it tries to copy the movement of Gears of war and that just doesn't work with the rest of it
Played this game for a couple of hours, haven't used the cover system once, just stand by a wall and shoot.
I've been playing it since launch, and apart from not being able to connect for a few hours I've been having a blast, absolutely love it.
Exactly. Wasnt that motivated in years.
I’m not too far into it so far but I’m really enjoying it, it reminds me of a faster paced version of gears.
I'm sick of this comparison. Part of what makes gears great was the weight to everything and nothing in outriders feels that way. It feels cheap as hell and boring to play imo
@@tomlapisto2840 ok, so a cheap and arguably boring version of gears 😄
@@tomlapisto2840 oh shut up you GOW fanboy the cover bouncing and gore is very similar to gears and was clearly inspired by it. You probably still think GOW is the best franchise even after the piss poor gears 4
Its so awful that today you can see a game a know for a fact it’s going to be a mess on release and ultimately not even worth half the price tag, then it comes out and your completely right. What is going on in the industry that we can see these train wrecks a mile away so easily??
Thank god I mostly play indies.
“Whether you play alone or solo” lmao
Was hoping someone would get it
glad there's still someone actually covering technical issues in details instead of mentioning them by the end of the review without barely any explanation, thanks ACG
I can’t believe that you still haven’t hit at least over a million subscribers.
It's not that surprising honestly. Most people buy games according to their own standards, not because some random youtuber said so.
Why would they sub if they only looked for that one specific review about the game they were on edge about.
@@jariolavilipponen3500 there are other reviewers with a million sub, so there goes that theory.
ACG has played maybe 100 times the games an average player has, i know some people who have only played shooters and sport games. Karak knows good level design when he sees it, average person doesnt know what level design is.
His aggressive e-begging put me off. He also loves to talk about how amazing and honest he is at reviewing games, like get over yourself bud. Go work a real job for a 50hr week then come whine to me for money to play fuckin video games for a living lol.
I hadn't seen one of your reviews in quite some time because I was busy with new life changes, but I'm 19 seconds in and you have already succeeded in capturing that same ACG energy that made me subscribe to you years ago...and for that, I say thank you. You'll forever be my source for finding game reviews and other related content.
We need a montage of his metaphors. Dude could be a rapper.😂

This game helped me notice that I mostly gravitate towards high mobility based co-op shooters like Risk Of Rain 2 and Deep Rock Galactic etc
"Wait Till it Works", that's a very fitting option for most games these days 😂
Tell that to Anthem players 😏
Though to be fair Outriders is a complete game out of the gate, which is great.
This game is so successful Square Enix might update Marvels Avengers to give everyone guns with a cover system.
they would need to first update this game to have a cover system that works
I subbed because you asked in 5 seconds and didn’t drag it out for 2 min. Straight to the point. Love the content
Oddly, I actually really liked the male PC voice actor. Thought the deadpan and soft spoken worked really well.
Peace-

I am having so much fun with this game. Loved seeing you did a review on it.
Personally I've really enjoyed the level design in Outriders
Been playing this game for maybe 6-8 hours now. I would have mentioned something about how well they do the coop campaign. If we ignore the connection issues, they way they map progress is really well done. Someone triggers a quest, creating a vote for the other players. It brings everyone in to the cutscenes. And those pesky dialogue scenes when the player has to make a choice? Each person is brought in to their own version once they start the dialogue. I was really impressed by this as not many games can do it right.
To me this game is like Taco Bell.
Yes, I could be eating something more high quality, but I don't care. Its still tasty AF.

If you’re still round 67% on steam until the 25th.
I actually love this game so much so far.
Same here. It caught me by surprise and while not perfect, the gameplay and loot system has been super hooked
Same. Didn't expect to be this hooked on the game at all.
Yup - loving it so far. Stinks so many people are having such major issues..
Thats awesome glad you are digging it
@@ACGreviews I'm curious to see how people enjoy the endgame.

While it can be played that way,
it is better enjoyed as a co-op experience.
When it is firing on all cylinders it is a blast, but the technical issues have definitely set this title back a bit.
You are a god damn poet Karak! Thank you for never ceasing to surprise me with your lyrical prose!
Karak is the "Dennis Miller" of video games, he loves him some metaphors.
I have been waiting in anticipation for this review. It was everything I wanted and needed. Thanks for your thoughts and insight! I'll be a doubtrider, until this drastically improves.
Dude it wouldn't even load on my ultrawide lol
This game will definitely be on sale in 2 months or less
I had no interest for this game.
But since it's on gamepass I gave it a go with a friend and we are enjoying it more than expected.
The combat is gritty and challenging, the story and characters are fully voiced surprisingly good and deep but doesn't take itself too seriously and has plenty of humor, which is good. The world is cool, Trench Town, anyone? Leveling up feels good. Optimizing your gear and abilities is impactful, and the armor sets look good.
It's a good game.
Why does Square/Enix keep trying to make these “Live Service” games, they’re obviously not that good at it (cough cough Avengers)
They are just the publisher for Outriders, People Can Fly developed it. Not owned by Square/Enix.
The gameplay and building your character in this game is awesome. I really like it.
The chick main however doesn't, in fact I really enjoyed her voice acting.
ya disliked her much much more
Oof he said Bass doesn't matter... I can hear Davi504 cocking his slap hand in a godly way.
"Wait Till It Works?" is new, isn't it? i would rather not play it myself
The fact that single player can’t be played offline makes this a pass for me. Great review as always of course!
It's not SP. You are just choosing to play with your lobby closed...
It's an AA game with a AAA pricetag, if it was 30 instead of 50 everyone's reviews would be much more forgiving.
Just stopping in to remind you that you are the most comprehensive reviewer on TH-cam.
I have it on gamepass and even though it’s cross play I bought it on my Ps5 I love it it’s fun.
Really nice review, I'd say you hit the marks on how the game is at this point. Tho I personally think the voice actors are good, the terrible jokes hit well and the story has a really cool theme.
I hope you'll make a review about the end game too, since that wasn't mentioned :P.
Who's blasting the fans just because you know this game tanks in a month...

With reviews like these the main question is how much do the negative sides bother you. Because if you look beyong that this game has a lot to offer.
Biggest problem is that endgame is all time based so if you rolled a tank you need to reroll. But i reached ct13 on warden via silver ct12, so its fun to make up builds and try to make it work.
I'm loving it. Another victim of Covid-19 with development probably. Bought a copy to support even though I have GamePass. Lots of fun.

Surprised you didn't mention the really awkward fade-to-black cuts for a cutscene that last 2 seconds then another fade-to-black
Or that the screen shakes on cut scenes.
@@Rickystakpants theres an option for that
Your completely right.
