I’ve been playing it on PS5 and have seen a fair few glitches. Nothing game breaking, but I had Freakers disappear right in front of me and people fly over to me from an elevated position and spot me when I was trying to take a camp out.
Days Gone is a fantastic, tense experience if you play it on the higher difficulties. Having to sneak around, using hit and run tactics and trying to save on gas and ammo had me on edge the whole time, and the game expands the amount of freakers per area. Honestly I absolutely adore this game. Bought it on PC and got it on PS5 too. It's fantastic. And no, it isn't still full of bugs on playstation at all, they were patched out for the most part. There was even another patch a couple of months ago

I feel tense from the enemies and think strategically in getting about situations. Everything so far has been great. I haven't seen any bugs as of yet and nothing has really made me reflect on it in a negative or critical aspect yet. Such a beautiful game.

Personally a game I didnt enjoy, but it did have one of my favourite moments in gaming. Was sneaking around taking out zombies, turned round to a MASSIVE GODDAMN HORDE not far from me that had stumbled down. Bloody terrifying.
I went into this game expecting nothing I came out loving it so much. It's not perfect, by any means but when people describe it as a diamond in the rough, that is honest to God true It deserves the love it got. It coulda been stronger in other areas but at least it was damn solid overall
I would argue that when encountering hordes, it depends on your playthrough. I one had a playthrough where I didn’t encounter a horde until that one side mission in that mine or whatever it was. Then in another playthrough I encountered a horde at the first base I tried to clear out.
I recall my first horde was the train horde. My second was during a mission, i was sneaking around, hopped through a window and it seems a wandering horde came pass and i was shortly swarmed, had a fun chase but i could not win
Finally got the plat this year after buying this game at launch. It being an open world game, I knew I'd inevitably get fatigue from wanting to do everything on the map. Something kept me coming back though. More than I can say for like 80% of my game collection.
I really enjoyed my time with Day's Gone. I played it after most of the bugs were patched and fixed so those didn't effect my experience much. Just cruising around blasting freakers and exploring the world kept me coming back for more. The story and characters were decent but nothing new or groundbreaking. The graphics and sound are great I have zero complaints on those. The combat was a ton of fun. I played the game on hard and felt the difficulty was just right. It kept things tense with regular humans being able to take my health down fairly quick and the hordes were a total rush to fight as I had to plan things out and play wisely to survive them. To me Day's Gone is a gem in the rough and I hope it eventually gets a sequel with a bit more polish and some fresh ideas.
Currently i'm replaying this game on the highest difficulty, that being Survival II which removes the HUD, you can only see the minimap when using Survivor Sense, and enemies do a lot of damage. So far it's been a blast. the gameplay suits it to some degree. the game itself is incredibly flawed but it isn't flawed enough to be considered bad or mediocre. it's okay and does enough to keep itself interesting but not for long. the characters are alright but the story they're stuck in has many issues that should've been ironed out or left on the cutting room floor. Days Gone is the sort of game that you'd play just to pass the time here and there because trying to take huge chunks out of it at once can get tiring. Great video dude. can't wait to see more from you.
so thankful I found your channel for the love of splinter cell , but dear lord your content , the way you speak , the way you present your opinions , it just kinda sticks in my brain and gives new perspective towards games. SC or no SC , your channel is amazing. I wish I could look at the games the way you do
2:48 The reason is the roads are blocked by wrecked cars, and when the militia clears the road in one of the tunnels and they arrive at Lost Lake in off-road vehicles, Boozer uses the same road to drive to them in a truck. I don't know how you want to make it more reasonable then this.
Although I’m a bit late to the video I figured I’d add my 2 cents. First off, this game isn’t perfect, at least from others experience, but I always felt gripped by it. The story was completely adequate and I personally liked/loved all the characters especially boozer. There were definitely some slow points to the game but I wouldn’t necessarily call them boring. I also thoroughly enjoyed the combat, stealth, and mechanics. I recommend anyone to play this game at least once! 8.5/10.
When I played this game on the regular ps4 in 2020 it ran fine and I didn't encounter more than a handful of bugs in one playthrough. It was quite nice. Biking through the world and listening to music from "The Revenant" is so good.
This was my lockdown game (1st one March 2020) and I loved it. Played on PS4 Pro and no bugs or crashes whatsoever. I enjoyed the story and the hordes were just so well done and I just loved coming up with tactics and plans to sort of a script my own fights. It might not be a masterpiece but it was fun and diverting at a time I really needed something to be just that. On scoring of games - one persons 10 is another’s 1 - so by and large meaningless. Read a few reviews and take my chances is my modus operandi. The scores I ignore. For me I’d score this as ‘enjoyable’.
I started playing Days Gone earlier in the year and put 12 hours in before I had to take my PS4 out because it was roaring and put my PS5 in. I’ve only just restarted playing it in the last week and have got back to where I was before and I’m loving it. I’ve seen a few buggy things here and there like an enemy flying from one rock to another and then spotting me while I was trying to take out a camp and dead Freakers do a rag doll jump up into the air randomly but otherwise I think it’s a great game. I love the forested north west setting, having to get gas for the bike, fix it up and scavenge for resources.
How can you get bored with this game? I completed it 100% and I still play it today beacuse the fun never stops. Days Gone is the best Open world game I have every played.
Not everyone can play the same game for hours even after 100%. Playing the same game over and over for months, with no new content or extra addons, after 100%, is pure insanity to others.
I went in without any expectations and I enjoyed it, for what it was. I was invested in the characters, but yeah, some of the storyline was hilariously telegraphed. Anyway, I had a lot of fun.
Game is great. This retrospective is wack. The guitar easter eggs are one of the best things I've come across. Many memorable moments in the game. One of the best i've played. Way off the mark here.
I started the game awhile ago and I just couldn't get attached to it. To me, it was the gunplay. It just felt off and not satisfying unlike any other third person shooter.
I really enjoy Days Gone. I'm always trying new ways of killing Hordes, defeating camps, etc. I have played it on every difficulty. Survival II is no joke. I have 760 hours on it. I started playing in January. I only stopped to play Ghost, then went right back to DG.
I am so happy you made a video on this game, I look up to you as a Video Essay TH-camr and I am surprised you and I had the same opinion on the game. We brought exactly the same points in both our videos xD
Nice to see Days Gone getting at least some recognition that it deserves. I personally fell in love with the game since it was released back in 2019, and since then i've beaten it three times: twice on PS4, once on PC. While the game does have some slight issues, i never really understood why people hated it so much. And that "secret" cliffhanger ending... Too bad that we will probably never see a sequel :(
I've considered starting Days Gone but I am very, very tired of modern open worlds with their droves of checklist content, magical land revealing tower checkpoints, and poorly fleshed out expanses of nothing. It's basically Ubisoft: The Genre and I find it insanely tedious. If I do play the game, it'll be like I play most open world games these days: beeline through the main story and only continue playing if I feel compelled to.
I JUST beat this game. Honestly...the third act of the game was so goddamn good. Honestly, what I wish the walking dead series evolved into. But holy fucking shit those first 2 acts are SO BLOATED. ITS SO LONG. LIKE WHY. OMG.
I first played this after all the big patch work already came out, and I honestly had one hell of a time with it. It's one of my favorites of this generation. The only problem I have was with the way the story was written regarding Sarah's relationship with Deacon. It just didn't seem to make enough sense. But Deacon's friendship with Boozer was extremely memorable and more than made up for it.
The power creep you mentioned was pretty much my entire experience in the game. I played through on normal and keep seeing online videos of people taking on the hordes and was thinking "I can't wait to get to that point." But as soon as I got to that point, I was so fucking bored all the way till I quit with one horde and the final mission left. I just got so burned out I couldn't force myself to finish it. Tried going back to it again but playing on Hard II and I quit again within two hours knowing how long I had before it would get fun. I also find I have a difficult time enjoying playing on my PS4 at all now that I have a decent laptop and have gotten spoiled by above 60fps at all times.
As bored as I was with this game, I am so happy that this game included gyro aiming as an option. It should be a standard option in any game on sony platforms that can benefit from it
Recently bought a PS4 and played trough Days Gone. I really loved it but it had it's flaws. My least favourite thing was how (spoiler) I could ignore the hordes most of the game and suddenly I had to beat one for most of the missions left.
Man when I heard that the sequel got canceled I was really sad. Mostly because the potential for an amazing game was here in the first one but it missed the mark.
I stopped playing shortly after Deacon discovers his wife is actually still alive. It's just such a mind numbingly OKAY game and is virtually indistinguishable from any modern Ubisoft game which seems to be the new trend for Sony exclusives now. Horzion, Tsushima and Days Gone, all pretty much Ubisoft clones.
Finally, someone else who likes the game. However, i grew up riding bikes and dirt bikes, was a rifleman in the military, i even own a compound bow and i like THIEF and Splinter Cell series, so, stealth too. This game has all that i like, i am on my 4th playthrough. However, i don't mess with the crossbow or the automatic rifles. AT ALL. Just get Unlimited Throwables mod, from Nexus and you're golden.
All of the criticisms are valid (except I'm not seeing any bugs now or performance issues on a PS4 Pro). But they add up to a solid 8 or even 9 out of 10 because it really feels like you are living, surviving and scavenging in its world in a way that just isn't true for games such as Red Dead or Tsushima. Those are much more story- and mission-orientated whereas Days Gone really nails the open world feel.
I agree with your point on ratings. I remember Metro 2033 getting quite a few scores in the 60s and thinking, "Yeah, that's fair," even though I fricken LOVED that game.
This game made me appreciate Naughty Dog even more. I platinum’d Days Gone but it’s McDonalds. Naughty Dog are PROFESSIONAL & experienced master chefs. Days Gone not getting a sequel is a blessing in disguise
I ain't gonna lie, one of the main reasons I finished this game was because of how great the gun sounds are. You're absolutely right about how the director told Sam to go a little too far with being unhinged. It's some of the corniest "try to sound like a hardass" dialogue I've ever heard. It sounds like a mix between him getting off and trying to sound tough I've ever heard, and it's so bad it's funny. The game would've been so much better if Deacon's wife, Sarah, was actually dead, and he had to learn to let go. The scene at the church was probably the best piece of the narrative, and they threw it all away for a "everyone wins" ending. And as milquetoast as the story is, I kinda liked how feel good it was. It was a nice break from all of Sony's somber, stoic 3rd person action games they've been churning out.
I can't watch your video because I never played Days gone, my system can't run it, but I shared it on reddit. I like your content and attitude and I will support you any way I can
Honestly, despite the issues I really enjoyed Days Gone, though that was mainly the bike physics and gameplay carrying it for me personally, that and Sam Witwer's performance, the story is.....eh.....it works, but it's not exactly new, still knocks it out of the park imo to tell the story it wants to tell
I spent 52 hours on this game. When it was all over I drove around the entire map to see if anything would spawn, and the only thing that does is survivors and ad traps.
I really liked this game. It had issues with pacing and polish and some weird design choices, but I had lots of fun with the combat and the design of the world really pulls you in. I think Bend, who I was already a fan of from the Syphon Filter games, did a great job on a lot of the environments. I think the story is better than it gets credit for too. I like how optimistic it ultimately is compared to other zombies media and Deacon turns out to be a more unique character than he appears to be at first glance. That sequel hook at the end is insane and I am sad that we may never get to see what they were setting up with it.
Is the constant showing of the Syphon Filter livery a hint at a possible Syphon Filter retrospective video in the future? I’d love to see a properly made retrospective for a childhood favorite of mine be done by one of my most favorite TH-camrs.
Great video! It was a likeable game, had all the makings of a masterpiece but gets let down by its downsides. A flawed masterpiece if you will. Its one of those games that could have probably faired better if it stayed in the oven a little longer. Like the rebirth we saw from Cyberpunk 2077 basically releasing in 2023 the game they should have dropped in 2020.
*I have Luke Stephens review of it etched into my memory where he said Days Gone is like a supermodel who keeps tripping on the runway every few steps😂
Just beat it on PC and its in my top 10 all time favorites, I freakin love this game and cried at the end, I want more!!! sony you bastards! Did Skizzo put you up to this!!! Love how Deacon talks shit to himself while hes approaching a maurauder/ripper camp
It’s a good game, not great but not bad either, it starts out really slow, feels like you’re just running errands for a few camps, but if you stick with it it’s a worthwhile experience with a satisfying progression system
Your review is spot on, game is very much a solid 6-7/10. Not a masterpiece but not something you're going to regret your life over. I enjoyed my time a lot when playing this game on my first playthrough... until it overstays its welcome then I just rush to the end since I can't be bothered anymore. Had they more time to polish and tighten up the pacing it would've been much better.
I love the game.I cried when it ended. The story between Deek and Sarah,The gameplay, weapons, even the zombies were great.Wish that they make the sequel.I beg Sony. Please make the Days Gone II
I played days gone on PS4 and i think your rewiew is pretty acurate. Bigest problem for me was the pacing, because you spend too mutch time doing side stuff to unlock new gear and bike parts. Also fighting the first mandatory horde was a real shock, because they just throw you into water and expect you to swim. I think horde fights would be mutch better if we had them from begining and they would just escalate.
I enjoyed this game alot tbh, did all nero collectibles, all ambushes, all historic landmarks, i hated the hordes so much tbh, when I finished the game, and did the rest, there was only a couple infestation left in the last area of the game and all the hordes all over the world, having to collect supplies to build stuff to fight the hordes was the last thing on my mind, loved the experience of doing as much as I could In the game, but stuff like hordes I couldn't be bothered to do at all. If there's anyone else who agrees pls let me know
I know this game is massively flawed: Several bugs and glitches that still happen after patches, an open world that is kind of empty, a pretty meh story that has its moments sometimes and some modern gaming tropes that were inserted so that this game could blend in so well with all other sony games...BUT I still love this freaking game. A satisfying gameplay loop that kept me hooked for 40 hours, an awesome performance from one of my favourite actors (Sam Witwer) as well as beautiful visual design and art direction on pretty much everything. This game is one of my top 3 favourite games (below Journey and Dark Souls). Days Gone is a cult classic that i can't get enough of
16:05 Well that summarizes my opinion. I like junk food. I dont eat all of them but i liked this one. I feel like every game review i watched about Days Gone, was the player didnt liked these slower paced games.
It has 2 many rough edges for me, core gameplay felt repetitive, and after 30 hours it just didn't make any sense for Deacon to keep doing anything. I mean this whole "new area but same missions" were annoying, and I just dropped it.
I loved this game...wish they would have done more with character development, like Boozer, his presence when he is gone should feel like a real blow, idk maybe have more missions where he does more than just help and tanks stuff. Stuff like that.

Personally a game I didnt enjoy, but it did have one of my favourite moments in gaming. Was sneaking around taking out zombies, turned round to a MASSIVE GODDAMN HORDE not far from me that had stumbled down. Bloody terrifying.
I'm a bit confused, did you not enjoy it because you were terrified by the game?
@@DJSLEV3N No, I just found the general gameplay a bit dull, fhe characters completely unlikeable, and the story also dull.
@@LianaSunbursterare you kidding. The story is great!!
Better than God Of War ragnarok IMO ,the story that is.
@@donsantos8798I love the game but he not lying. There’s parts of the story I hate and the controls are kinda 🗑️
Thanks!
Personally, I loved it. Played it all the way through to the end.
You played the game? Deacon and Boozer burned tattoos off of Jesse prior to the freaker apocalypse.
The bb gas tank is the best crossover ever
I went into this game expecting nothing
I came out loving it so much. It's not perfect, by any means but when people describe it as a diamond in the rough, that is honest to God true
It deserves the love it got.
I have to say, days gone did two things exceptionally well, it’s Characters, and it’s World Building.
My standards must be low, I had never noticed any of these things. Btw I absolutely adore deacon
I love this game.
Following another story or protagonist, such as Derrick Kouri, in a sequel would have been awesome.
Day's Gone is fantastic and deserves a sequel.
Drop this puppy on Game Pass and a whole new fan base would open up
loved this game and was hoping for part 2... but we know how that turns out. Best quote in any game.. "Only the lost tell lies"
Loved all my time with days gone. Got the platinum too. I would have bought a sequel on day one. One of the best looking unreal 4 games.
so thankful I found your channel for the love of splinter cell , but dear lord your content , the way you speak , the way you present your opinions , it just kinda sticks in my brain and gives new perspective towards games.
The best character is the douchebag who plays collectible songs guitar in one of the camps, while people wordlessly come to the bandstand and vibe.
For me I’d score this as ‘enjoyable’.
it's not a "double standard" from Sony. Ghost of tsushima was critically acclaimed. Days of gone wasn't. Its not just about sales.
I was drinking water when you said that last sentence… My laptop now has water on it…
Just rolled credits tonight. I enjoyed the game and the pacing was solid to me
I am so happy you made a video on this game, I look up to you as a Video Essay TH-camr and I am surprised you and I had the same opinion on the game.
If I do play the game, it'll be like I play most open world games these days: beeline through the main story and only continue playing if I feel compelled to.
what a shitty way to look at things
@@mainsource8030 To each their own. :)
Loved the game. Was a bit tired of the Walking Dead storylines so got my zombie fix by playing this game.
“Small group of ten” We have different definitions of small.
when you can play a game and love it knowing the flaws, is a description of a great game. -kefir
The power creep you mentioned was pretty much my entire experience in the game. I played through on normal and keep seeing online videos of people taking on the hordes and was thinking "I can't wait to get to that point."
But as soon as I got to that point, I was so fucking bored all the way till I quit with one horde and the final mission left. I just got so burned out I couldn't force myself to finish it.
Tried going back to it again but playing on Hard II and I quit again within two hours knowing how long I had before it would get fun.
I also find I have a difficult time enjoying playing on my PS4 at all now that I have a decent laptop and have gotten spoiled by above 60fps at all times.
play it on steam, its much better
Everything this man has been true and even though it was a hard pill to swallow, it’s the truth but it’s still my favorite game after playing it
As bored as I was with this game, I am so happy that this game included gyro aiming as an option.
From the minds who brought you Bubsy 3D.
3 of my favorite games
Finally, someone else who likes the game. However, i grew up riding bikes and dirt bikes, was a rifleman in the military, i even own a compound bow and i like THIEF and Splinter Cell series, so, stealth too. This game has all that i like, i am on my 4th playthrough. However, i don't mess with the crossbow or the automatic rifles. AT ALL. Just get Unlimited Throwables mod, from Nexus and you're golden.
The hordes were the selling point of the game to be honest. I'd be interested in a sequel but for now, Days Gone was a good thing while it lasted.
best zombie game ever!
Say all you want man.
Days gone is an awesome game which deserves a sequel.
I agree with your point on ratings. I remember Metro 2033 getting quite a few scores in the 60s and thinking, "Yeah, that's fair," even though I fricken LOVED that game.
There is just some moments in the game where decon just dead ass sounds like Joe from family guy
I remember how this game had SO MANY ads.
Enjoyed Days Gone more than I thought, enough that I Platinumed it, but then aside from clearing out Hordes, not much to do after
I can't watch your video because I never played Days gone, my system can't run it, but I shared it on reddit.
I dont get it Days Gone was a great game and i Love it so much! I hope they bring a second one!
You are a nice person who is alright at games :)
Needs to be played on survival difficulty. Then it’s a solid 9 for me.
There's a reason that I play this game in bursts
I love this game so much and wish a sequel would be released.
If there's anyone else who agrees pls let me know
i never had any of these bugs and my frames were pretty good on ps4 when the game came out
I know this game is massively flawed: Several bugs and glitches that still happen after patches, an open world that is kind of empty, a pretty meh story that has its moments sometimes and some modern gaming tropes that were inserted so that this game could blend in so well with all other sony games...BUT I still love this freaking game. A satisfying gameplay loop that kept me hooked for 40 hours, an awesome performance from one of my favourite actors (Sam Witwer) as well as beautiful visual design and art direction on pretty much everything. This game is one of my top 3 favourite games (below Journey and Dark Souls). Days Gone is a cult classic that i can't get enough of
One of the most trite and tedius Games I've force myself to play in a long Time. Deacon is so socially awkward, it's almost relatable though.
I had no clue Aiden from Being Human U.S. was the main guy and it totally threw me off
I dont care what anyone says, the game is amazing and I enjoyed it
16:05 Well that summarizes my opinion. I like junk food. I dont eat all of them but i liked this one. I feel like every game review i watched about Days Gone, was the player didnt liked these slower paced games.
the only real reason for the whole jesse thing, at least for me was that it showed deacon wasn't the best type of people before the world ended.
Even if it's not that kickass game, I strongly think that it should have a sequel to continue its storyline with the history of outbreak!
I’m relaying it now and damn I love it
It has 2 many rough edges for me, core gameplay felt repetitive, and after 30 hours it just didn't make any sense for Deacon to keep doing anything.
I mean this whole "new area but same missions" were annoying, and I just dropped it.
you quit right when the story gets going, which shouldnt take 30 hours but the ripper storyline and then the military base were incredible
I loved this game...wish they would have done more with character development, like Boozer, his presence when he is gone should feel like a real blow, idk maybe have more missions where he does more than just help and tanks stuff. Stuff like that.
