Considering that Anankos (before he goes nuts) is basically narrating his life story in this song, it’s fitting that it be quite somber and melancholic.

They think a (false) peace are brought upon just by ending the war, but alas the real mastermind whose spark and fueling the war still lurking in the shadows, brewing and scheming their next evil plans..
Imagine if Fates was made into a Broadway musical. This would probably be the last song before the curtain, and the cast could sing the ending verse together. And then everyone goes quiet for the last "You are the ocean's gray waves", which Azura and Shigure would sing together. Goddamn, that would be an emotional experience.
