Ahh yes, the old smell test to determine whether a motor oil is good or bad. Super scientific. Supertech is the best bang for your buck. Watch project farms videos.
It’s not a smell test. I thought since it stunk up the entire garage including my clothes and part of the house, it would be something I should bring up. No other oil has ever done that. Project farms does some good testing. But he also seems to think the thinner oil is the best. Not sure where that comes from. I don’t want thin oil. I race cars in the summer. Oil that flows fast when it’s freezing has nothing to do with most people driving. Thanks for the comment. Crazy to see how many super tech shills are out there.
Minnesota kid you are right. Warren Distribution has been selling oil since 1922. There top oil name is mag1. I watched a video of the distribution plant and they had mag1 motor oil on one of their assembly line. They also make mag1 transmission fluid. The supertec oil is not as good as some name brands, but i have seen it was better than some. Like Motul oil and that is supposed to be one of the top of the line oil. I've seen it almost do as well as royal purple. As long as u change the conventional oil at 3000 to 4000 miles with a quality oil filter and 6000 miles with a synthetic oil filter, you should be good to go. I would rather have clean oil every 6000 miles and have oil life left than run oil till all the lubrication is at 0. What protection do u think is better cleaner oil at 6000 or oil at 10 to 15 thousand miles on it. Some people think just because something cost more, it has to be better. I've known hookers that cost less than a preppy girl and are better in the sack. So by logic the preppy girl cost more so, she should have been better right? But that's not the case.
I change my stuff every 3k. Miles. Regardless. ..what oil I use..... For instance. .I had 88 Toyota pickup...4 popper. ... Used...havoline conventional. . 5w30.....back in 90s....good stuff.. Change oil at. 2800 miles...why? Lifters would start ticking a little bit.......put new oil in..... Ticking would go away. Every time... Try full synthetic one time on that motor. ... value cover gasket started leaking big time..... Drain oil out.....put back in the conventional. ..it stopped leaking. . 2016. New car...0w20..since new Full synthetic. ..
Bottom line...SuperTech exceeds requirements for all car manufacturers. "Torture" tests that go beyond what a car engine was designed to do are pointless, unless you're making an infomercial.

Anyways, my 08 Fit only has about 60k miles as of today and i've experimented with different brands and types of synthetic 5w20 oils since i've owned it. TWICE, I have used Walmart's Supertech Full Synthetic oil and after the first time, I noticed in my recordkeeping book that a lot of oil had burned as it was down to about 3 quarts when drained. Every other brand i've used never had that issue and it has always held up to around 3.6-3.8 quarts upon draining the oil. During my last oil change (September of 2013), I had exactly $17 cash (rare I had cash) and remembered I needed an oil change so I decided to give the Supertech Full Synth 5w20 stuff another shot. I noticed that the car didn't feel "the same" (for lack of a better term) but continued to just drive it as the Fit is basically my daily driver. In November when it was due for an oil change, I drained it out and noted that there was only 2.6-2.7 quarts in the drain pain. WOW, where did that oil go? I figured something might be wrong, however, I went back to using Valvoline Full Synthetic 5w20 and didn't look back as I didn't want to deal with any more expenses. Yesterday I changed my oil and voila, 3.8 quarts drained into the drain pan. My thoughts - that Walmart Supertech Fully Synthetic 5w20 oil sure burns. I've never had this issue with ANY other 5w20 Synthetic Oils. I been using NAPA full synthetic..its 13$ plus tax for 5 quarts .... made by Valvoline... no issues other than I'm saving money...
Wow that's a very good deal! Is that a sale price or normal price?
Can confirm. Super Tech smells like it's already been used.
See! I’m not the only one.
I agree. Although I use Super tech.
@@TenzaMotorsports after doing some more research I found out that this particular oil is made from recycled oil. That's why it smells used. It was lol.

Castrol does as well and Castrol is dark compared to others
I use Pennzoil that's it, but people can use whatever oil they choose to put in their car !
@jeromebland8287 ME as well. Pennzoil always. Not much more expensive and it's Pennzoil.
Scent free people can always smell differences in plastic bottles and oils. Some smell like fragrance. Additives all vary in smell.
That Castrol Titanium smells SUPER BAD, but it does it's job super well. Don't judge oils by their smell. Different additive packages and amounts of each component will surely affect the smell.
I don't believe I said that the smell meant it is a bad oil or to use your nose to determine the best oil. I just pointed out that is smell like used oil which has a very distinct smell.
What are those gears you were using to test the lubrication
I was using the Lucas oil tester. That test is to look at oil retention
So, which oil do you recommend?
Based on what I've seen mobil 1 has preformed best with our testing. I've been running royal purple in my racecar for around 4 years. I've been very happy with Royal purple.
@@TenzaMotorsports what about conventional oil? I have a 06 Honda Accord with 320k miles that has been using conventional for a while
I have never owned a car that took conventional. I can't comment on that topic.
@@thebestever333 Super Tech has a conventional oil as well.
@@thebestever333 my father in law had an 87 grand marquis with 483000 miles on it all on conventional valvoline 5w30. He said change your oil every 3000k. That smell is called....TEXAS GOLD.👍
Isn’t super tech Walmart oil?
I couldn’t find it for sale anywhere else locally.
Yes
Walmart sells it, its obviously made by some big oil company not walmart
Super Tech is made by Warren Distribution, the largest manufacturer of private label lubricants in North America.
Does DEXOS rating mean anything? They both have it.
It’s a certification. They both need to have it, or it wouldn't be a fair comparison
@@TenzaMotorsports It's a GM thing...certain GM rides require oil with this rating to maintain warranty.
It doesn't mean anything, other than the oil brand paid GM the license fee to be "certified" as Dexos. It's just a money grab scam. That's it.
i used super tec for the first time and noticed the idle dropped and the engine ran smooth. i used a quart of marvel mystery oil. i'll find out more but my truck ran smooth. why would they sell super tec if it wasn't good. it's fine for my car. i've never smelt oil that was burnt, so i wouldn't know. curious why did you smell the oils?
I wasn’t impressed with it is all, Im not sure why it smelled the way it did.
@@TenzaMotorsports well I kind of have to agree with you too. i'm using it out of curiosity. bought a second hand truck that I thought to use the oil. i'm going to smell the oil after. I usually use Pennsoil, Quaker State, or Valvoline 20-50 racing oil. I just don't know enough about oil. Thanks for the video. it makes people think.
Thanks for the comment. let me know what you find out.
Lol because you used marvel mystery oil. Its good stuff and makes the oil clean and protect better
Supertech is made by Warren distribution the same company that basically makes Mobile One super tech is a good oil I've seen all kinds of testing done on on TH-cam and everybody says it said it was a perfectly good oil and they would use it in their cars no questions asked I use it in mine and it does a great job
Smelled burnt. ?). Perhaps Warren Oil maybe useing Recycled oil ?
Not me.Syntec 10w30. Great.
Super Tech has a higher Sulfer Content which makes it smell
Doesn't have a sulfur smell though.. smelled burnt. Not saying the sulfur content, like you're saying, isn't it. Either way, I was NOT impressed by the performance and wouldn't use it in any of my vehicles.
You realize how strict oil regulations are right? Its like buying fuel, its basically all identical.
I
Does ANYONE have ANY idea who won this wet Kleenex test ...
Lmao Supertech is actually just as Expensive as Name Brand oil. Its $6 Quart here and they don't sell the 5qt Jugs. I can buy Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for $21 for 5 Quarts. Cheaper than Supertech and it Blows Supertech out of the water on "Anti Wear" Package Parts Per Million, and Cleaning Agents also the Cold Flow Test on Pennzoil beats ALL other oils even Amsoil 😮 and I'm a Guy who has ALWAYS used Valvoline Oils
I've heard that supertech oil is re- refined oil so that would explain why it might smell a little different than new oil-that is not to say that oil which is re-refined is not just as good as new oil -I've also heard that the more you refine oil the better it is and a lot depends on the additives used in the refining process
I heard it wasn’t. But I can’t seem to get a straight answer from anyone who would actually know.
In your opinion is Mobil 1 the best?
From my testing it has been the best. I personally use Royal Purple for all my performance cars.

Good job testing.
Thanks for the comment!
Mobil 1 Pennzoil castrol. Etc etc gotta pay for all those commercials some how 😆
Been using Super Tech Regular (Not Synthetic) oil for all of my vehicles since it was introduced and cost under $2.00. Now it's over $4.00 and I'm still using it. Never had an oil related failure to any of my vehicles. Most have over 200,000 miles. I do however change my oil every 3000 miles like I was taught 45 years ago. I also grease my vehicles if possible and use marine grade grease!
Lol yeah you'll figure it out soon enough.....
Hmm, smelling oil ... Let's get to the bottom of this!!
I did not enjoy it that much I promise!
Super tec..is made by. Warren distribution. ...there flag ship oil is...mag one....
Warren makes good oil.....
Drain oil out.....put back in the conventional. ..it stopped leaking. .
2016. New car...0w20..since new
Full synthetic. ..
They certainly do
If I were to go to a quick lube shop to get an oil change wouldn't I be pretty much getting supertech?
I don’t think so. I’m sure it’s comparable though.
...no,you'll be getting the crappiest, cheapest quality oil you can imagine!
Bottom line...SuperTech exceeds requirements for all car manufacturers. "Torture" tests that go beyond what a car engine was designed to do are pointless, unless you're making an infomercial.
Bottom line. super tech doesn’t compare and I wouldn’t use it.
@@TenzaMotorsports That's fine.

I wonder what it would look like with rislone engine treatment additive in the super tech oil.
I’ve looked into doing additives. After I get done testing the regular oils I might do additives
@@TenzaMotorsports I can't believe the cost of oil at Autozone. $38.99 for the Pennzoil. I was a bit upset and left the store. Went to Walmart got the Supertech oil for $14.88 and Rislone for $4.47. Totals out to $19.35 and still saved money but hopefully, it's at least the equivalent to Pennzoil by itself. I also got engine restore for my 4 cylinder car, will put that in with the engine oil and the Rislone.
thats an interesting idea. Buy the cheap stuff then use additives. Keep us updated, I'd like to know how it goes.
@@TenzaMotorsports sure will
That smell is from I believe the Base Stock Walmart (Warren Distribution uses the Manufacturer for Walmart). It is most likely Hydrocracked Base III Stock. Pennzoil may be PAO oil. Poly-alpha-olefin based. If you run Valvoline Full Synthetic it smells like Natural Gas...I have a feeling that is where the smell comes from.
Very interesting.. I really appreciate the comment!

That Smell! Does it smell like Castrol? Castrol has it´s own unik smell.....I have alway´s wondered why as all API oils are basicly the same. Maybe it´s the Hydro-Cracking Process? SuperTech is from Warrens Distribution, it can be that they get their oil from Castrol.
I think you're right. It's hard to find information behind some of these oils. Makes me suspicious.
@@TenzaMotorsports I think we can feel safe that the oil meets what is recommended as long as it has the API/SN rating marked on the bottle .It would be nice if it said Group lll or PAO/Group lV on the lable. I don´t think you will find Ester/Group V on the shelf as these oils are intended for high performance race cars. Transparancy to the consumer would be nice.
Super tech on every vehicle I have owned it's made by mobile 1 the number one oil in the world I wouldn't use Pennzoil on my bike chains ps I think something was burning but it wasn't the oil
I’m sure it’s a fine oil for the most part is just didn’t perform well against the others. It was definitely the oil that smelled burnt. As soon as I opened it, made the whole garage smell.

''Never going back to using Walmart Supertech Full Synthetic Oil
Some of you may have already started snickering after reading the title.
My 2 favorite Synthetic oils are Castrol Edge and Valvoline, mainly because the car feels great and it doesn't take a huge chunk out of my wallet. Anyone else have similar experiences with Supertech oils?
