    I had sisterlocks and agree 100 that it was the best hair decision I made. I then cut them out to experience my natural hair. I went from relaxer to locs so never managed my natural hair. I’ve finally learned what my natural is like and how to maintain it thanks to black girl curls. I miss my locs and my bday gift to me is going back to locs. Enjoy the journey it’s a wonderful experience

      I’ve been contemplating starting and doing my own but I was also thinking having a professional start them and I maintain them. Living in Arkansas with few hair resources has been difficult unless I go 3-4 hours away and find a loctician

    Hi I highly recommend keeping your braids in after washing until it is fully dry. I also braided my hair very regularly for the first few months. I braided my hair about 2 to 3 times weekly so that I felt comfortable spritzing with water and knew that it wouldn’t unravel. It was a more work but I have had zero slippage.

    First thing - makeup on fleek! As always. Just gorgeous 😍 I love watching and listening to you. 2nd, I was about to comment that for 6 months (which technically is when you should have been well into the so-called ugly phase) I could hardly see any frizz. With locs, frizz is GOOD. You want your locs to frizz and shrink (aka become more tangled and compact) because that's the only way you can achieve loc maturity. For your texture, the slippage was expected. I would have braided your periphery after the first slippage, and then interlocked the roots, but different loctitians do things differently. FYI, I don't know about this idea of asking people to avoid water after interlocking. It makes no sense. Locs that will slip, will slip regardless. Plus wetting/washing your interlocks hastens the locing process. The stretch and shrinkage caused by soaking the hair and then allowing it to dry speeds up the tangling/matting process, which is what you want.

    I ABSOLUTELY AGREE…Oil and spritz your hair… every one hair texture and growth patterns are different and you have to do what’s best for you. I’m on my way to my Sister loc journey and have already made up my mind that I will be oiling and spraying my hair with water because that is what works for me in its natural state already. My hair has maintained its growth and healthiness from doing so without the locks. So I’m sure my hair texture will not change and will continue to grow using the same regimen… Thanks for your honest feedback!

    I live in colombia and there is only 1 certified sisterlocks consultant out here and she lives in a completely different state 😩 so flying her out here to get reties definitely gets costly ($375-$400 USD) so I’ve started going 8 weeks between reties. I’m 13 months in and I get slippage around my perimeter bc I workout a lot. I’ve found that keeping my perimeter locs braided in two cornrows going down each side helps A LOTTTTTTT in preventing the slippage. I’m also in the process of learning how to retighten my own hair (at least the perimeter/ areas that are prone to slippage) so I can go longer between reties. Yours are gorgeous !

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooooh girl thank you for that tip! My new Loctician recommended I cornrow my perimeter when I'm washing my hair as well x

  • @meridien52681
    @meridien52681 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Stretching out reti's isn't good. The maintenance keeps your locs smooth and even, and it's better for a professional to check it out at regular intervals. BEST decision I've ever made and I will be loc'ed forever! (I have Sisterlocs and they're past my waist, 18 years old, and been cut a few times, so I've been on the journey a while.) My consultant recommended an interval of no more than 6 weeks for reti. I was worried about why my hair looked a little frizzy some years ago, and since we've been maintaining it more frequently, it looks and feels SO much improved! Thank you.

    This has really inspired me to finally bite the bullet and go for it! The major thing that was holding me back was that whenever i braid my hair i get very dry scalp and was worried about that getting stuck in my locks, especially with the no water rule but you are right. I will just need to do what is right for my hair! Thank you :) (Oh and I just subscribed too!)

    My first retie is tomorrow and in just 4 weeks of experiencing my locs, I've realized that there are lots of rules in the loc community. Too many rules that it somehow defeats the purpose of hair freedom. I also have a very dry and itchy scalp, it can itch so bad that I have bruises. Telling me not to moisturize my scalp for the first 10 weeks that's almost 3 months won't work cause I'd do more damage to my scalp than damage from slippage. I've been spraying rosewater a couple of times a week and applying oil lightly to relieve my scalp. I'm looking forward to my appointment tomorrow so I hear what the loctician has to say about my locs condition. I've noticed a couple of slippage especially on my hairline just like you but I'd know tomorrow. I really need to wash this hair though, I don't think I can wait till 10 weeks before I wash it. Team disobedient gang 🤣🤣

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Honestly I think it’s important to find the balance that works for you. I don’t think ANYTHING hair-related should require your personal suffering. Try not to stress too much about the rules and listen to your body I say.

    • @Mrs.Adrian

      Ive been microlocd for almost 11 months and honestly do whatever works for you and your hair. I’ve used oil since month 2. Water since day 1 and I never had any issues. Of course you can’t drench your hair like you used to but spritzing it everyday (even twice a day) won’t hurt. Remember even though we aren’t loose natural anymore we are still natural with Afro textured hair. Misting Water alone or a little bit of oil is not enough to make your hair unravel

    • @Mrs.Adrian
      @Mrs.Adrian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have the same hair type, pattern, texture and density as you do. Even the same problem areas at the temples and looser in the front, 4a and tighter in the back, 4b. This video taught me so much about what my hair might look like and the problems I may encounter. Thank you for sharing your journey. I have a feeling that oils and moisture will cause the same issues. My strands are very fine even though I have a lot of them so considered medium density. I have mini twists in now as a test. I used curl cream and they stayed well for a week, but I went to a social gathering and sweated along with humidity and when I got home the shrinkage was major and many of the twists had unraveled even though they were so small. My ends look like yours. Have fine, very tightly coiled hair, but product and water elongates them so people mistaken my curl pattern as being more of a 3c vs 4a 4b. My shrinkage is real too. Lol. 😂

    Your looks nice, and I like the fact that you know what you need for your hair and you're doing it as time goes on you'll get to know more about it. What I do about the locs at the perimeter of my head is to retie them before the due date, like that, the slippage is minimal.

    Try T gel to wash your hair. This will minimise flaking, and you won't need to use the oil. I've had no slippage, and I have 4a hair. I wash myself and mist with water daily. I don't use any oil on my scalp, but I haven't used oil on my scalp for about 15 years so it was no biggy.

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not tight, but sore if that makes sense. I had to take a painkiller, but it was fine after a couple days.

    I've never heard a loctitian advise not to put anything in your microlocs. Do you braid and band when washing?

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, I braid and band

    Since you have microlocs how are your ends done snd how many locs you have?

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand your first question but I have 548 locs

    • @dilia00
      @dilia00 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I was trying to ask are your microlocs twisted or done like sisterlocs? Are your microlocs small or min? I have 4c hair I haven't decided whether I want twisted or not. I like your style so if yours are twisted I like that better I want my hair full.

    I’m still learning but you use sisterlock and microlock interchangeably but they are distinct. But you have sisterlocks, correct?

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiya I have microlocs, Sisterlocks are a trademarked term for microlocs style from what I understand

    Instead of you having to travel for maintenance, can your loctitian show you the proper technique to do some light maintenance around the periphery of your hair?

      Honestly at this rate I think that's what I need to do. Thank you hun.

    Did you do two strand twists or braidlocs?

  • @tinarjackson9844
    @tinarjackson9844 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It will fall in time. Blowing drying before the install wasn't necessary. Because when you wash it... natural hair shrinks

    Please when you go for retie do they pick the locs one by one? It will be so time consuming

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they do, my reties take about 3 hours so it's not too bad

    My advice for ppl with slippage issues, start the locs with plaits then twist it out.. the braids/plaits keeps it in place at least better than just twists

    Hi! How do u keep the ends curly?

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, I actually don’t do anything. My hair has always had a very tight curl pattern and my locs are still not fully matured yet so maybe that’s why.

  • @tonipennington2910

    Please please PLEASE make sure you get a second opinion from a loctician closer to you. I don’t have sisterlocs but it kind of sounds like she’s trying to juice you for money by having you come in so much and telling you not to moisturize your scalp as needed by your scalp. Obviously if her process is working then good but please make sure this process is actually working for you and your hair and not just working for her ❤️.

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I wasn't comfortable with the that advice to not spray anything not even water when my scalp was clearly dry either. I did another microlocs after this one where I explained what I'm doing now 💕
