    Expensive o, micro locs is luxury at this point. I’ve pushed my reties to 8-9 weeks. After a retie I rock my locs for 2-3 weeks then make knotless braids and rock that for another 4-5 weeks cause I didn’t come to this life to be retieing hair 🙈

    I installed my own microlocs starting off with 2 strand twists. 7 years down the line I retighten my locs [at the root] on average once every 5-6 weeks it takes about 1.5/2 hours. If i leave it longer than that it takes too long for my patience.
    My hair is thriving with the locs, best thing I've done for my hair. And i can still wear my wigs if i fancy a change.

      Wait 1.5-2hrs?! How many locs do u have? I’m really considering getting microlocs but only if I can maintain them myself & the reties are BEARABLE lol

    • @summerdee2583
      @summerdee2583 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@MysticalPreshXO I count them once a year [yeh I know! 😌]. I've just done it for this year so can confidently say I have 363 locs.
      As long as you don't leave it too long between retightening it really doesn't take too much time.

    I learned to do my reties and it made a world of difference! I just do it at my own pace while watching Netflix in the evenings & this takes about a week. If I had more time during the day it would be quicker. But I was def pushed to doing this because in Dublin I’ve not been able to find any legit microlocs loctitians

    I definitely think you should be willing to learn how to do your own reties and be prepared to do them yourself if you get microlocs. The pool and availability of high quality locitcians is very limited. If a scheduling conflict occurs you will be in a tight spot. My philosophy is if a novice is going to do my hair that novice will be me.🤣 In most places there is no licensing for a locitcian i.e. no standard of uniform practice. Take what you are told with a grain of salt and in light of what you know about your own hair.

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Very sound advice and so many people choose to do their own reties for this very reason. Although I’m honest enough with myself to know that’s not an option for me. I have no desire to do my own reties and If I had no alternative I would actually just pick another hairstyle.

    I must say, microlocs have been the most freeing for me as far as styling. I used to think it was limiting as well, but protective styles are taxing, and straight hair is boring to me 🤣 so I never saw myself wanting to go back to all that. I always tell people if you get to a point where you no longer want to switch things up, then go ahead and get locked up.

    • @Loveit45

      i always wore weave or whatever when i had loose hair so im not worried about micro locs limiting either.

      No literally, I haven’t straightened my hair since I was a kid, haven’t worn box braids or did my hair in like half a year, always keep my hair in straight backs and put my head wrap on. I think it’s time okay cuz weave honestly makes my head itch and I already planned on never putting weave n my hair again😩

    • @omnidiscord
      @omnidiscord 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      i’m definitely not at the point where i don’t want to switch things up, but i still decided it was worth it to lock up. in my opinion, the only three styles you really CANNOT achieve with microlocs are like a slick pony, fulani-type braids, and a sew-in. anything other than that i’m still doing on my hair! box braids, twists, faux locs, and wigs satisfy my desire to switch it up plenty! i agree, my own hair straightened was boring me, if i want straight hair i’d much rather a wig regardless, so i’m still completely pleased with my options

    There’s so much misinformation on locs in general because there’s no studies or data on the process!!! I’m working on that now but it’ll take a while before it’s properly regulated like other cosmetology specialties. Best to find a loctician that will create a custom regimen for your specific hair and scalp, instead of generalizing locs like everyone’s hair is the same. That’s what’s worked for me and my clients. And it’s working REALLY WELL. 😇

    Beautiful commentary on SL & Micro Locs😊
    But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT.
    I let a girl In Hayward CA, name Kristin do my Sisterlock install- 🤦🏽‍♀️ she was awful to say the least and very unprofessional.
    I went to her for a couple of more months, but my gut told me to stop going to her.
    She did not know what she was doing. She did not do the Sisterlocs grid- she messed up my hair- and had the nerve to get upset because I stopped tipping her. In the meantime I was looking for a new sister Loctician ….and I actually reported her to Sisterlock foundation . I have a new lady now , in San Leandro California. She is amazing ! Some of these folks out here do not want to take care of your hair. They only want the money. And her attitude was definitely from the devil..
    If you feel it in your gut, please do your research. Do not go to the first person you see! This is my second set of Sisterlocks. Soon I will be doing a channel myself regarding my Sisterlock journey. 😉 be safe out here folks when it comes to your hair!

    What I don’t care for is that some people are doing Microlocs much smaller than they should be. The ones in this video are more the size of sister locs. Micros should be in between locs and sister maybe half the width of a pencil.

    • @Ifeyinwa
      @Ifeyinwa  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the video definitely gave me something to think about. I will say still way cheaper than the states. You’re looking at $500 to $1500 to start depending on thickness, length and etc. I’ve been looking for quotes to start and I have pass shoulder length so it’s a lot. Reties are like $150 to $350, this is for Georgia and Florida. I’ve decided to do it myself honestly lol

      I respectfully, but wholeheartedly disagree with each of her points, and I've had my sisterlocks for 3.5 years. I had trouble finding a loctitian, so I went on the official sisterlocks website to find one. It literally gives you a list of contacts for each registered loctitian in your state. I strongly recommend getting them done, as my only regret is not getting them sooner, but you have to do what's best for you. Best of luck, whatever you choose!

    I got medium sized braidlocs. I do love microlocs but they are too expensive to start and maintain. Yes, I could start and maintain them myself but I don't have the patience for such tiny locs. It will take forever. I got someone to start my locs and I maintain them myself through interlocing. My arms are hurting even after interlocing medium/large locs so I know I made the right choice for me.

    • @oluomalocs4964

      I'd say it depends on just how tiny your microlocks are. For traditional sized locs - no problem. When you have upwards of 350, the pool of microloctitians who are available AND skilled AND have the tools to do this is so slim as to be almost impossible.

    Question: If we do braid our hair while in microlocs, do we have to take down our braids early for the sake of retightening. Like I usually have box braids in for 3 months before I take them down... so would that mean I'd need to take them down at the 4 to 6 week period so that I can retighten my locs?

    I know that I have tried so many styles on my daughter's hair and she discovered she loves it to just be a natural afro because her hair is very very tight little spirals. Now that we are entering track season and she loves to run, we were considering microlocs as a protective style. I might try looking into something else since both our schedules are very busy and money is a bit tight. Thank you for sharing this video.
