Exactly, we have a decision to make when we "fail", to take the lesson or to avoid the learning process and probably do the same mistake twice in the future
Progress ABSOLUTELY beats perfectionism. I have this mantra of " *Something is better than nothing* " and it has worked wonders for building good habits and learning new things. Before that I said "If I'm doing it, I should do it perfectly" and I just failed at getting any better. But once I shifted my mindset, it was all suddenly a lot easier to get healthy, work out, learn a new language, etc.
@@M87-o3n I like how you think funny man ;-). But nah, progress doesn't perfect the art of perfectionism because progress may be tangible but not fixed in its outcome, i.e. perfect, by virtue of result and definition. The perception of this paradox is subjective to how one perceives perfectionism to begin with - if you think perfectionism is absolute just like in what I've said above, then approaching progress > perfection may be incredibly difficult, since at least with perfectionism 100% is complete by a fixed time variable, if not an outcome-based variable as with progress (where 80% by a fixed time is OK).
I honestly believe self-improvement should be a subject in school. I particularly like how this approach is all about accepting one's mediocrity yet extremely motivating and comforting in a healthy way if you know what I mean. Thank you, Ali!
Love the point on how much we value effort… and it’s so true that before anything becomes effortless and seemingly “natural” to us, for the vast majority of people, we first need to have put effort into it. Even if you were born with natural talent, if you don’t put in the effort to hone it daily, you’ll eventually lose that talent anyway. 👍
reading this currently! love the difference between growth mindset vs fixed mindset! What I've discovered is that people could also have both depending on the situation. You could have a fixed mindset about your personality, eg: I don't think I can change my anger issues. But could have growth mindset when it comes to building a skill such as in Ali's case - I can type faster or I can have bigger biceps than Matt D'avela 😛
This is so true! There's a lot of nuance to this idea, and it's great to realize that there could still be areas of your life where we're still in a fixed mindset, or maybe have switched back to a fixed mindset (something I realized I struggled with with my business during the pandemic).
Watched this video with nothing to take away, as I thought I am a growth mindset person anyway.. And 10 seconds later, an epiphany just like yours. There absolutely are areas in my life where I think I had such a fixed mindset. I think I need to put more work into them.. Thank you..
As an English teacher in Asia, I see it all the time: students too afraid to ask a question for fear of what others will think of them. It hurts everyone. If someone does raise their hand and make a mistake, I tell them "good mistake". At first, the student is confused, but then (over time) they slowly get braver. BTW, I need to say that to myself as well.
After reading about the two mindset’s I began viewing people with a filter where I’d segregate them into one of the two mindset’s. And the amount of people I knew that had a fixed mindset was astonishing!
Ohh my GOD how can i make this video appear on my TH-cam feed everyday till time like a reminder!!.. Definitely really powerful working on Mindset. We have to start with our mindset to change our lives. If we are stuck in "we can't, it's impossible" mindset then that's exactly what will be delivered. If we move to anything is possible, and we just need to create actions every day towards it then, we start seeing results.
That example with the software marketer is a great paradigm shift moment! It's easy to see "experts" execute and go "wow" but oftentimes we don't see all the preparation that comes before hand. Great video Ali!

Great video Ali. The power of reframing and the word “YET” is life changing. Reframe from “I don’t know how to do this” to “I don’t know how to do this YET”. We also need to get past our fear of judgement or we may not even try the first attempt. Wanting to be perfect on our first go, or being worried people will laugh holds many people from their own potential greatness.
Funnily enough, I learned this mindset through game with women. Gaining knowledge works wonders in all aspects of your life, what you learn in one area converges with knowledge from another and so on till it starts compunding itself. Keep learning, keep growing fam.

so true about the manager - I think people underestimate how much time does people management require, esp. if you want to grow the team in the right way. Even two hours for the feedback may sometimes not be enough! :)
And here I was in lower secondary thinking if I don't get math problems right at one go then... 🤦🏾♀ dont worry guys I'm growing and I'm trying , maths makes science fun and I'm learning that. And THAT is a big step for me👩🏾⚕

Thank you so much for sharing this, I was the one who suffering from perfectionism, strive for progress rather than perfectionism is the quote on my desk. I want to read this book.
Mindest is the greatest barrier to entry you can create in a world where the barriers to entry have become essentially non-existent. Anybody can copy a business idea, a concept, a style, a video. Nobody, though, can actually copy a mindset - especially if you're absolutely dedicated and disciplined to that mindset to the extent that the compounding of knowledge, experience and synergies over time helps you visualize and execute things on a higher level than others.
I have always been k’ As a creative problem solver... Every single problem has many different solutions, that can work to a certain extent. You just need to try and find 1 of them!
Yea, having a growth mindset is useful in a ton of ways. Because when you are progressing at something it's difficult to see the changes that have been made. But after a while at the thing, when you look back, it seems as if after all it really was worth it. This seems kinda specific but I would say it applies to a lot of things. Such as maybe someone trying to put on muscle or someone trying to get better grades or learning digital art, etc. I believe that I should improve at this because, I have a fixed mindset when it comes to a lot of things. Congratulations on 2 mil subs, btw!
1 thing i also learned is, that you never should listen to anyone else telling you, you can´t do it. just because they were not able to do that, doen´t mean you can´t !!
Absolutely. So many people will tell you it's impossible just because they haven't succeeded with it yet. Tuning that message out is hard, but sometimes it can be rocket fuel to double down and work harder at it.
I might be the only few around here who relate this book to anime series Re:Zero; Season 2. When I read the Light Novel (prior to being adapted into Season 2), I suddenly remember this book when it talks about Subaru and their parents. The author definitely know about this mindset side of thing, since he (Tappei Nagatsuki) can potray the child Subaru really well. The once great and outgoing Subaru who is great in almost anything, becomes incapable of doing anything anymore because he can't meet their parents expectation (or so he thought his parents wanted him to be). This is called a "Gifted Child Syndrome". It's devastating. And I'm sure that a lot of people can really relate to this within their childhood. Me included. Subaru's Mom: "We didn't have you because we wanted you to do something for us. We had you because we wanted to do something for you." _When I read this chapter, I literally cried for the first time in a long time. And it's from a Light Novel. So that's just great._
Thanks for your video. This book also changed my life. I overlooked mindset before reading this book, but now I know that mindset is almost everything. : )
I so much look forward to your book club videos! I have become a book addict over these few months and I enjoy reading and I read each and every book you recommend!

so true about the manager - I think people underestimate how much time does people management require, esp. if you want to grow the team in the right way. Even two hours for the feedback may sometimes not be enough! :)
I definitely have both mindsets depending on the subject. Room to grow!
Change your mindset and mindset will change everything 👍

And here I was in lower secondary thinking if I don't get math problems right at one go then... 🤦🏾♀
dont worry guys I'm growing and I'm trying , maths makes science fun and I'm learning that. And THAT is a big step for me👩🏾⚕
Congratulations on 2M Ali👏
This video is very humbling. While watching this my head is nodding and I was smiling. Thank you so much for sharing this 💕
As a promoter of life-long learning, this was very thought provoking. Also, you always look lovely in light blue.

Also navy blue
I just made a video about Growth Mindset a few weeks ago… Carol Dweck studies was the reason I made it… Great studies and a great book!!!
Graham Stephan said the same thing in one of his videos. If you are just starting out on yt and you want to see your channel grow focus on quantity not quality. Definitely agree with this
A girl rejecting you is not a 'failure'. Relationships are not a conquest. She just doesn't like you in that way. Respect her decisions.
The production quality is sick, especially with the motion graphics and art work!
# goals 😁🤷🏻♀️
Thank you so much for sharing this, I was the one who suffering from perfectionism, strive for progress rather than perfectionism is the quote on my desk. I want to read this book.
This entire channel is a treasure!

Progress beats perfection👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I can relate to the fixed mindset a lot. Time to change!
A similar book called “Grit” talks about this. Showing up, continuous effort, etc. It talks about how nothing is actually effortless and talents
I am on the process of reinventing myself and this book is just that I need. Thank you for the recommendation!
1 thing i also learned is, that you never should listen to anyone else telling you, you can´t do it. just because they were not able to do that, doen´t mean you can´t !!
Never give up !
We had you because we wanted to do something for you."
_When I read this chapter, I literally cried for the first time in a long time.
