i know a few people who speak just like her. it's natural to them notice its consistent! nervous people usually change as the speech progresses, but she remained like that to the end.

I thought she wasn't used to speaking too loudly, and that's why her voice sounded like that. Honestly, it was getting on my nerves, but then I read this comment and reflected on my own experiences like this and I kept watching. I noticed many comments below about her quivery voice. I believe she was just nervous. Perhaps she wasn't accustomed to speaking in front of many people and nerves can do that to you. I googled her name and found that this ted talk was from 3 years ago, but I found one from just a few months ago, and the shaky voice is gone. She has become accustomed to public speaking, and I'm so proud of her! She clearly is making a difference and loving it! Good on her! We are all capable of such things if we have the right mindset. :)

This might be the best TEDx Talk I have seen, thus far. It’s well written, as are many others, but the way that she delivers the speech and information is incredible. Hearing the nervousness in her breath while delivering such a powerful and informative message really adds to this speech. She is actively doing what she is speaking about and putting mindset over fear/doubt. Great job.

Her performance of her speech is based on her topic. If you can change your mindset and keep control of your mind, you can do literally everything you thought you couldn't. She is battling great fear,doubt, and anxiety on that stage, because doing a Ted talk in front of a large audience is intimidating. But she toughs it out and gets more comfortable and more in control. This is inspirational, salute to this woman and her courage to change and control her mindset in a intimidating situation.
Wonderful speech Dr.Crum! Thank you so much, it’s amazing how this few minutes of your educational video have changed my life. My husband was overweight by more than 100Lbs, using some of your data, I designed a psychological assurance plan to help him loose weight. When he gets dress daily I assure him that he most be eating a lot less, because he has dropped significantly weight. To begin this, I bought a mimic of his daily outfits one size bigger, cut all labels and washed them to make them look used. Hid away the real ones and one morning after a few days of good encouragement he noticed that his clothes were loose. He looked at himself different, his bp is more controlled, getting rid of his diabetes, he has lost 30 pounds so far. Our kids encouraged him too ,we are getting him healthy again:) this worked better than anything we have tried over a span of 20 years!!! Thank you so much!!

However, I’m a bit worried about being blatantly uninformed, but I think that I’m exaggerating the level of “uninformedness” (can’t think of a better word lol) that I will be in my head. I am a medical student, when days would get dark and all seemed to be at stake, I'd watch this under a tree, at times with my friends. With much tender emotion, with much joy at times. I love Dr. Alia Crum... that small vibration in her voice, which people think are nervousness, to me is her signature style. And what an amazing, enabling, and englightening wisdom she shared.... She has got perfect wit - especially when at 14.50 second, after video clip the lights did not come back - she said, and "here we are.... (lights did not come back) in dark"...... all the reason to love her forever.
This is a great talk! I'm so glad I listened to it. I live alone, I used to like to be alone but now I'd rather be with people and I'm in the doldrums. I really needed to hear this talk to inspire me to look at my situation and my opportunities positively, and start making all the parts of my life, including my solitude, experiences I can enjoy.

The stress study was rather intriguing. It explains so much of how I react to certain situations. When highly stressed I am overly productive and can focus on tasks more clearly. However when stress is prolonged for years, it causes problems in my body. Eventually bringing in harmful effects until the stress is minimized.
I can't believe I am discovering this talk so late! Awesome! I always believed the a medicine cannot work same for all individuals! Also this phrase has been repeated often "Every (Wo)man makes her/his own luck!".
I've never seen anyone with such a tremble in voice and despite of that, continuing for so long. That's remarkable and most differentiating trait a person can have. Pure gem.
I was reminded of my own crippling "stage fright" in my college public speaking class. I have never been to speak in front of an audience without my mouth drying out & my knees vibrating out from under me. All of that is made more strange by the fact I never once experienced any stage fright as a musician. I have been face to face with at least 10,000 fans at once and each one of them actually empowered me like an energy "vending machine" ! I feel that the biggest difference in the 2 scenarios is that you are usually trying to persuade audience members with a speech . With a musical concert setting you have likely already won their approval and the performance is more akin to a "victory lap". Incredibly well-thought-out presentation and a lot more intriguing than most. She really is an asset to this body of information! Thanks again & hope to see & hear much more ! RBO

This talk has actually led me to reconsider my approach to physical training, since I was 15 years old I train hard almost every day, literally every muscle in my body aches, but I had adopted this mentality of always doing more because it is never enough and never be satisfied mainly because of all the content of the media, and as time passed I did not see results that I liked, I always believed that I was not doing enough or that I had to criticize, I could not sleep peacefully, I did everything wrong as long as I did not leave my 110% every day. When I started training with other people (who also had an athletic background) and had them do half of what I did, after a few weeks they showed muscle gains greater than what I was getting with the same type of training. The difference was that they believed that what they did was more than enough and they always felt satisfied with their efforts looking to the future positively with respect to the results, for my part I did the opposite... I don't want to say that what was exposed in the video has given me an immediate response, but I definitely need to reconsider the mindset I've built all these years, especially for my emotional health.
@@garimakharra1784 First of all, clarify that I am not a specialist and my opinion is based on and influenced by my experience. I think that the objective you are aiming for goes beyond just changing your mentality, of course that is essential, but you have to support it with changes in your behavior as well. I think that's the beauty of wanting to develop oneself, any positive change generates a chain of small changes in other areas of life, I recommend looking at it as if it were a synergy. For example, if I want to study and learn more, I must first be aware of my way of learning, you can ask yourself questions like, what do I do when I read? Do I take notes? Do I make summaries? so that you can make adjustments that allow you to have a meaningful understanding. That requires an effort at a cognitive and emotional level because sometimes it is more entertaining to be on Netflix or Instagram than reading, but you manage your emotions in a way that helps you stay focused. In addition, to enhance your learning you must have an adequate sleep schedule, a good diet, among other activities. Finally, I believe that one of the most important aspects, regarding the development of a growth mentality, is knowing yourself, knowing what you think, what you believe, and whether or not that helps you to be who you want to be, since You are with yourself 24 hours a day, so it is important to educate and guide your inner voice towards a better lifestyle.
Mental illness is a something that too many people are suffering in silence about. It's really heartbreaking to see loved ones struggle, and sometimes they don’t even realize how much more they need help. I have a cousin who battled anxieties for years but never talked about it because he thought it was weakness. But that’s no true! Everyone can face the mental health challenges, and reaching out for supports is actually a signs of strength. What’s frustrating is that there is still people who think mental health issues are not real or that they can just "snap out of it." This kind of thinking makes it so much more harder for those who are struggling. We all should be more open-mindedly and learn about these issues, so we can better support to each other. If we create a safe spaces for conversations, maybe more people will feel comfortable sharing what they're going through. It's time to break the stigma and show that it's okay to ask for helps!
This Dr. is great to see. This tells me that since she got out all the knowledge on top of her anxiety, that her mindset about stress was beyond average. This Dr. simply was shaking not over fear but due to a diaphram which was practicing breathing out words and a mind that was working fast on nerves, which all tells me she will be a damn good speaker and speak her words with no shake later down the road. She listened and obsorbed lots of data and could say it all using air. This is not fear!!!

Amazing and brilliant study. I truly believe that our mindsets affect reality in every single aspect of our lives, and even in the lives of other people. The Pygmalion effect is a very interesting demonstration of this. Having this knowledge is very empowering. Thanks to TEDx and Dr Crum!
Amazing! This is what some people call the law of attraction. What we think becomes our reality. We are responsible for everything happening to us in our lives. Most of our thoughts however come from our subconscious mind, which makes it more difficult to control. Dr Alia Crum, would you teach us how to shift our mindset?
Congratulations Professor Crum. As a physical therapist I believe that this is an absolutely fantastic message to get across to all patients but especially my interest area stroke survivors. The concept that our brains act like pharmacies to produce physiological reactions (hormones/growth factors etc) based on what we believe is a vitally important message to get across to anyone trying to recover physically after an illness or injury. It combines brilliantly with the idea of priming your brain for success. This research is invaluable and you do such a brilliant job describing it. It is one of the main concepts that underpin stroke rehabilitation in my opinion.

Wonderful speech Dr.Crum! Thank you so much, it’s amazing how this few minutes of your educational video have changed my life. My husband was overweight by more than 100Lbs, using some of your data, I designed a psychological assurance plan to help him loose weight. When he gets dress daily I assure him that he most be eating a lot less, because he has dropped significantly weight. To begin this, I bought a mimic of his daily outfits one size bigger, cut all labels and washed them to make them look used. Hid away the real ones and one morning after a few days of good encouragement he noticed that his clothes were loose. He looked at himself different, his bp is more controlled, getting rid of his diabetes, he has lost 30 pounds so far. Our kids encouraged him too ,we are getting him healthy again:) this worked better than anything we have tried over a span of 20 years!!! Thank you so much!!

However, I’m a bit worried about being blatantly uninformed, but I think that I’m exaggerating the level of “uninformedness” (can’t think of a better word lol) that I will be in my head. I’m curious if you feel you ever miss the *important* news, or if the real important things you’d want to hear about come to you just from unintentionally hearing about it in some other way? i remember when I shifted my whole routine and mindset in college. I started journaling, meditating, and writing down my gratitudes. That shifted my whole mindset. I felt like my mind was way more optimistic. A change in mindset changes everything

actually this is quite natural in some people, notice she does it to the end, nervous people will change their tone of voice even if it's down to the end.

This is a great talk! I'm so glad I listened to it. I live alone, I used to like to be alone but now I'd rather be with people and I'm in the doldrums. I really needed to hear this talk to inspire me to look at my situation and my opportunities positively, and start making all the parts of my life, including my solitude, experiences I can enjoy.

The stress study was rather intriguing. It explains so much of how I react to certain situations. When highly stressed I am overly productive and can focus on tasks more clearly. However when stress is prolonged for years, it causes problems in my body. Eventually bringing in harmful effects until the stress is minimized.

I've never seen anyone with such a tremble in voice and despite of that, continuing for so long. That's remarkable and most differentiating trait a person can have. Pure gem.
I was reminded of my own crippling "stage fright" in my college public speaking class. I have never been to speak in front of an audience without my mouth drying out & my knees vibrating out from under me.
All of that is made more strange by the fact I never once experienced any stage fright as a musician.
I have been face to face with at least 10,000 fans at once and each one of them actually empowered me like an energy "vending machine" !
I feel that the biggest difference in the 2 scenarios is that you are usually trying to persuade audience members with a speech .
With a musical concert setting you have likely already won their approval and the performance is more akin to a "victory lap".
Incredibly well-thought-out presentation and a lot more intriguing than most.
She really is an asset to this body of information!

It's much more impressive to be so coherent and articulate when nervous than if you are just naturally comfortable on stage. Also it's adorable.
I give her a lot of credit , I use to get nervous on stage as well. She did a good job pushing through. Very smart and I learned a lot.
This talk has actually led me to reconsider my approach to physical training, since I was 15 years old I train hard almost every day, literally every muscle in my body aches, but I had adopted this mentality of always doing more because it is never enough and never be satisfied mainly because of all the content of the media, and as time passed I did not see results that I liked, I always believed that I was not doing enough or that I had to criticize, I could not sleep peacefully, I did everything wrong as long as I did not leave my 110% every day. When I started training with other people (who also had an athletic background) and had them do half of what I did, after a few weeks they showed muscle gains greater than what I was getting with the same type of training. The difference was that they believed that what they did was more than enough and they always felt satisfied with their efforts looking to the future positively with respect to the results, for my part I did the opposite... I don't want to say that what was exposed in the video has given me an immediate response, but I definitely need to reconsider the mindset I've built all these years, especially for my emotional health.
resting is important, take days off and let your muscles and body recover so that the next time you’re performing in a better shape.

@@garimakharra1784 First of all, clarify that I am not a specialist and my opinion is based on and influenced by my experience. I think that the objective you are aiming for goes beyond just changing your mentality, of course that is essential, but you have to support it with changes in your behavior as well. I think that's the beauty of wanting to develop oneself, any positive change generates a chain of small changes in other areas of life, I recommend looking at it as if it were a synergy. For example, if I want to study and learn more, I must first be aware of my way of learning, you can ask yourself questions like, what do I do when I read? Do I take notes? Do I make summaries? so that you can make adjustments that allow you to have a meaningful understanding. That requires an effort at a cognitive and emotional level because sometimes it is more entertaining to be on Netflix or Instagram than reading, but you manage your emotions in a way that helps you stay focused. In addition, to enhance your learning you must have an adequate sleep schedule, a good diet, among other activities. Finally, I believe that one of the most important aspects, regarding the development of a growth mentality, is knowing yourself, knowing what you think, what you believe, and whether or not that helps you to be who you want to be, since You are with yourself 24 hours a day, so it is important to educate and guide your inner voice towards a better lifestyle.

Mental illness is a something that too many people are suffering in silence about. It's really heartbreaking to see loved ones struggle, and sometimes they don’t even realize how much more they need help. I have a cousin who battled anxieties for years but never talked about it because he thought it was weakness. But that’s no true! Everyone can face the mental health challenges, and reaching out for supports is actually a signs of strength.
What’s frustrating is that there is still people who think mental health issues are not real or that they can just "snap out of it." This kind of thinking makes it so much more harder for those who are struggling. We all should be more open-mindedly and learn about these issues, so we can better support to each other. If we create a safe spaces for conversations, maybe more people will feel comfortable sharing what they're going through. It's time to break the stigma and show that it's okay to ask for helps!
This Dr. is great to see. This tells me that since she got out all the knowledge on top of her anxiety, that her mindset about stress was beyond average. This Dr. simply was shaking not over fear but due to a diaphram which was practicing breathing out words and a mind that was working fast on nerves, which all tells me she will be a damn good speaker and speak her words with no shake later down the road.
She listened and obsorbed lots of data and could say it all using air. This is not fear!!!

Amazing! This is what some people call the law of attraction. What we think becomes our reality. We are responsible for everything happening to us in our lives. Most of our thoughts however come from our subconscious mind, which makes it more difficult to control. Dr Alia Crum, would you teach us how to shift our mindset?
Congratulations Professor Crum. As a physical therapist I believe that this is an absolutely fantastic message to get across to all patients but especially my interest area stroke survivors. The concept that our brains act like pharmacies to produce physiological reactions (hormones/growth factors etc) based on what we believe is a vitally important message to get across to anyone trying to recover physically after an illness or injury. It combines brilliantly with the idea of priming your brain for success.
This research is invaluable and you do such a brilliant job describing it.
It is one of the main concepts that underpin stroke rehabilitation in my opinion.
