I love it when you said, "You got to start by being bad" It brings comfort to me that it's okay to be a bad editor or storyteller, just do it, record a video, and upload it.

    1. Stop worrying what other’s think about your videos, they got their own problems
    2. Rather than trying to plan everything in advance, focus on improving your content through experimentation and trying things out
    3. You have less competition by making very specific and niched down content helps
    4. Build a system that makes it easier to produce content
    5. Make the Title and Thumbnail first
    6. Front-load your effort into the fist 30 seconds of your video
    7. Starting out, the quality of your content is more important than gear
    8. Identify your unfair advantages, something that makes it harder to compete with you
    9. Outsource video editing asap, frees up tons of time

Before I started my channel, I have watched several videos on how to grow a TH-cam channel. One major thing I learned from all these videos is to simply FOCUS ON YOUR CONTENT AND IMPROVING EVERYDAY
I believe once you enjoy the process and not too clung on the numbers, and focus on learning and improving your videos, the numbers will eventually follow suit.
I see content creation as an endless journey of learning, improvement and discovery. 🤗

I used to be so worried about my parents and relatives stumbling upon my channel and thinking it's lame, telling me to focus more on my full-time job.. However, the first step I took was sharing it with my parents. To my surprise, they were all about supporting me, no judgments whatsoever. So now, as I keep on creating content, I'm feeling way more relaxed about the whole thing.

Yes, just take a look at my channel, I've changed the name of it and my content so many times over the years, and now I'm on a serious journey to get my channel going in my new direction. Side Hustle Ideas, and how to make money online. I have 27 years of self-taught experience online with starting, growing, and selling online businesses. One I sold for a $50,000 profit and another for a $30,000 profit. The others were less, but it's still been an exciting journey. ;-)

The biggest lesson for me was the importance of storytelling. Ed (Film Booth) taught this to me. I always thought people just wanted information, but most people won't watch unless they're being entertained. It's one of the reasons why Hamza grew so fast. He's a great storyteller. It's the most underrated skill for TH-camrs.

Not matter what you do, people will always have something to say, so think about what you want and don't worry about others, you live your life for yourself! :)

Agree! I architect-ed my first videos. They tanked because I didn't know how to make videos or tell stories. Then I switched to the "archeologist" tactic because I knew I needed way more skill before going back to the reason (and topic) for which I have a passion. I wasn't being an archeologist to figure out my niche, I just want to figure out the basics of video story telling. I'm still on that "archeologist" phase. Did a 30 day video making challenge where I tried to make a video a day to get reps in with new software, etc. I'm still an infant but I think I'm getting close to getting off the hands and knees and running like a true wild toddler! Lets go!

Great advice... especially the first tip, as we need to remind ourselves (not just with TH-cam, but life in general) that other people are too busy and caught up in their own chaos to truly care or even notice what you are or are not doing. When you figure this out, it takes a lot of pressure off of things. Also LOVE your approach to systems (and batching). This is again so key to success on and away from TH-cam.

Exactly. This especially applies to making a thumbnail and a title. I totally disagree that these components come first. Before production I know just a general idea of the outcome and most of the time the final result is different. It's the same as with writing a book Steven King's way: the story leads the author. I don't disagree that some people or let it be the majority of experienced creators who come to the idea of making a thumbnail and the title first. It just doesn't work in MY CASE.

@@TroyQwert I don't think he meant it dogmatically. As far as having a system for making your multiple ongoing videos, it is probably a good organizational "method" to make a series of thumbnails and tiltes first. This does not mean that you are discounting your creative storytelling self which is the source of your art. I don't think this method has to impede your creative freedom. Rather, it seems like a smart way to deliver to your intended audience.

03:38 That is so true ! I started by talking about early bilingualism, 400 videos later I decided it is enough. Started to document my journey in network marketing, but nobody cares (A few more hundreds videos which did not work). I created a show, a live on thursday night in which I explained stuff about network marketing and business, during 151 weeks ! I had a small traction but I got bored having no really traction outside 10 people. I stopped more or less using TH-cam for 2 years. I started table tennis in competition at the age of 51, and I realized I could tell this story "I started table tennis competition at the age of 51 with the goal to become a pro". It's laughable, it's funny, I tell stories and put the pictures of almost all matches, I comment them. It's a huge work but it helped me attract an audience who plays table tennis and can watch up to 42 minutes just to see me lose at the last set ! It works ! Some people really like it and give me pages long advices in the comments. Some trainers in my region have started filming their youth to analyze like I do !

I haven't watched your vids in a little while. The production quality is through the roof! I really liked how fast you got to the meat of the video, no fluffy intro, no barrage of teasy phrases to make us watch to the end, just straight to delivering the value, and equally at the end, you just wrapped up and got outta here, great times. You got 100% completion rate out of me instead of 88%! 👌
That first one, I dunno. People seem to care, I get so many comments like "How's your influencer career going", or they'll imitate an intro to a video, or play it in front of people. They may not care that much, they may be a little jealous and are being dicks because of it, but it's enough to validate that people are watching, they will mock you, and they will pull you down. So YOU need to get to not caring what THEY think, as soon as possible because it does hold a guy back!
Front loading videos was a huge takeaway I had that I've overlooked so much. Sometimes I'm hours into an edit keeping the animations consistent and really I should just get to the meat and potatoes.
+1 for outsource your editing, our time is better spent elsewhere indeed!
    Good times, Cheers Ali

I start every one of these videos hopeful and leave a little bit depressed. The big appeal - to me - in making content is the idea of supporting yourself through art and creativity. On the surface it seems fairly possible, but when you start looking at the details it becomes readily apparent that it's extremely rare.

Yes, I am still too scared to tell family and friends that I am on TH-cam but I have been contacted by the most amazing people who felt touched by my videos. Again that's thanks to you as you said 'just do videos that could help at least one person'. Watching your video today I realised I def need a system. I only spend 1-2h on TH-cam a week, and literally thinking about a title and description as the video uploads. My thumbnails are usually just a screenshot with a little something on top, if even 😂 The videos where I tried to add a few bits of stock footage didn't actually perform as well as the once where I just pressed record. But I wonder what's possible if I might actually hire an editor. I know exactly what style I would like but just haven't got the time to do it.
