    Nice. Some quite well known bracelet companies sell flat link models with shitty pressed clasps and no micro adjustment for half the price of this Erebus.
    Well done Jody
    In blue, the origin looks like the love child of a Tudor Pelagos and a Sinn U50.

    San Martin has been using that same clasp for about a year. It's the first time I see an unbranded one though. They're pretty great

      I've only ever seen that OTF clasp from San Martin, and I've been studying clasps pretty intensely. It should pair well with this bracelet as the removable link sections look shorter than that of an oyster bracelet. The trouble I've had with this clasp when paired with oyster-style bracelets is that they don't have a huge range of adjustment - maybe 9mm or so - but if an oyster link is 10 - 11mm in length then not everyone is going to get their perfect fit. This is the same issue when San Martin went from 6-hole adjustment to 4-hole. The way around that is to either have a glidelock (18mm of adjustment typically), or include 2 half-links with every oyster bracelet. For Jody's watch, if the flat link sections are shorter than the H-link one, that's reason enough to get the flat link version. Reviewers really need to focus on this aspect more, as it's not just about the curvature and articulation at the lugs.

      Yeah this is definitely the San Martin clasp - they’re identical if you look side by side. Considering they’re using the San Martin plastic travel case thing too, makes me think that San Martin is the one manufacturing these for Jody. The watch build / finish does look like something SM would make, so it makes sense

    Man, these look amazing. Folks on WC recommended I get one, since I was asking for yellow diver recommendations. Purple is my favorite color, so considering that one as well. Difficult to find yellow divers, and especially purple. That same clasp is on my San Martin. Nice clasp. Seeing more brands use it.

    I assume this is made at the same factory that makes the San Martin. The clasp is at least the same and you do get to tighten the clasp while on hand. It’s just to push it inwards. I’m very surprised that a channel reviewing watches hasn’t seen this clasp before.

    • @ajmarion
      @ajmarion ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed, it’s definitely the SM clasp, it’s identical. Sounds like San Martin is the one producing this watch for JOMW

      Deciding whether to pick one of these up so I’m watching all the videos on TH-cam on them. I have to say I think it is boring but in the same way a submariner is boring. There’s something to be said for really nailing the basics. This watch ticks a LOT of boxes for the price.

  • @tom1399
    @tom1399 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    A good first attempt at making a watch. I reckon if a Tudor Pelagos had sex with a Sinn U1, this looks like what the result might be.
    But two big cons for me...
    I would've prefered the watch to be a straight 40mm, Rolex having the Submariner go to 41mm is one of Rolex's recent faux pas (In my opinion), and I believe Jody said this was the reason behind the size choice.
    A Pelagos style watch at 40mm, would've righted the issues with the Pelagos 39 (for me anyway). Sensible 20mm lug widths, and a date, like the ORIGINAL Pelagos!
    The clasp looks a bit too big, though on the fly, micro adjustment at this price, gets a massive thumbs up!
    But it's the name and symbol...
    'E-RE-BUS' ?!
    It's just not 'punchy' enough for a tool watch brand, I did a few classics courses at Uni, and I wasn't aware of the Greek mythology here. And at first glance I wasn't sure of the pronunciation. When people see you wearing the watch, you're probably going to have to explain this, which is then a little embarrassing, detracting it's otherwise good looks.
    The symbol also looks like its been found in the clipart bargain bin!

    The more I look at it, the more I think the indices are too small. I don't like how the weight of the black surrounds of the hour and minute hands are so much thicker than the black surrounds of the indices. The ones with the white surrounds on hands and lume look much better, except that many of those - I think the seconds hand should be fully white. I think it should be 40mm not 41mm as the dial looks to have too much negative space. The black one to me looks to be the best of the bunch but I'm just not into it enough to pull the trigger. Actually I got a San Martin and two Steeldives for the same price and don't need another watch so I'll pass.

      Don't get me wrong, this watch would be great if we'd live in early 1900s. Today tho, it's just a shiny useless toy.

    • @Bristol1
      @Bristol1 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@damyr There are a lot of us that enjoy mechanical watches for what they are. A very small machine that sits on your wrist and tells time. Having to fiddle with it from time to time is part of the fun and joy I get from mechanical watches. When I don't want to have to mess with a watch, I put on a quartz. If you don't like mechanical watches that's fine, but calling them useless toys seems a bit harsh and narrow minded. Different strokes for different folks and all that.
