I really hope that the upcoming Doan's island film will be successful enough to spawn a full-fledged Gundam the Origin continuation in a theatrical format much exactly like the Evangelion Rebuild films, which funnily enough were the primary inspiration behind spawning the remake approach to classic shows; Hideaki Anno applying the Origin being a remake to 0079 to his remake of Eva.
I have to say the Dom redesign that shows up in Gundam The Origin manga is my favorite. So sad it never got a gunpla but it got a super rare bclub resin kit
The origin might be one of my favorite sci fi series, top 3 next to SW. It's truly a compelling and rich story that I feel everyone needs to read or watch once in their lives.
I just started the series. Finished 0079, and I started watching The Origin series. Immediately I was hit with continuity errors that confused me and I think were worse. For example: Guntanks being a main part of the Federation's armaments, even before Gundams were a thing. The entire point of Zeon being able to fight against the much larger Federation was because of the advantage they had with their Zakus. The Federation didn't have the power necessary to take on the Zakus effectively until they made the Gundam, and the Guntank and Guncannon based around the Gundam's frame. Now, I only watched the first episode so far, so I don't know how deep the changes are. But so far it seems pretty bad. Considering that now I'm questioning how exactly the Federation even had a tough time with Zeon if they had so many Guntanks and firepower to begin with.
@BigFry9591 I'm a little late to reply to this but a lot of it has to do with existing tech. The minovsky reactor didn't exist before the MS project executed by zeon. This meant that automatic targeting systems were the military default and that mechs were impractical except for very specific tasks like mob control. When the minovsky reactor becomes the primary tech of the universal century, now the skill ceiling for warfare is infinity because a pilot doesn't have to worry about laser guided or AI controlled weapons just destroying them. A mobile suit piloted by 1 guy can literally destroy a warship, a state of the art tool of space warfare, in a single barrage. Ground mounted weapons do practically nothing to a zaku and they can't use laser targeting or AI against them because of the minovsky effect. Once the Feddies got ahold of this tech and had the time to mass produce it, the war was over for zeon.
@Austin hadley I was unde the impression even the bigger warships were using at least some degree of early pattern Minovski, there wasn't a way to do fusion reliably without it. (And the feddies were changing to beam weapons which even unminiarurized need minovski fusion byproducts.)
@@BigFry9591 correction: the Gundam was based on both the guntank and guncannon. Both are earlier concepts before the Gundam was made into reality. Both the '79 anime and Origin has explained that the reason why Zeon has been winning was due to their capabilities for "Ms-to-ship" combat, with the federation heavily dependent on ships and core fighters at the time. The Origin's addition of having the guntanks existing prior to the development of the gundam has no real implications to the story and what it's trying to portray at all.
Glad you’re enjoying it! While the price of collecting them all is a pain, everything about the series from the appearance to the story itself makes it so worth it!
I like the heightened character focus ( I can finally see what the fuck people were talking about with the Amuro/Sayla romance thing) and the extra worldbuilding is nice. That said, did they REALLY have to cut out so much of the mobile suit action? Despite having its name on the fucking title, ol' grandpa Gundam can hardly get a moment to shine out in this manga.
Thanks a lot for this recommendation. The manga was brilliant. It took all the great things from the OG series and turned it up to 11 while also getting rid of the bullshit. I never watched the Origin anime and I’m glad I didn’t because the flashback is so much better read during the main story instead of before or after. I also loved how it focused a lot on other characters than Amuro. While Amuro is still the main character, you could argue that he, Char and maybe Sayla make up the heart of the story. The only thing on the top of my head that I was disappointed by was the lack of exploration into the Federation leadership. We see a lot of their military leaders but not a lot of their politicians and bureaucrats.
Honestly the opening scene of the manga isn’t even comparable to the anime with how much better it is. I also gotta say I prefer when Amuro stays on model
The very moment the gundam wakes up in the Manga is both awesome and frightening. You can literally feel the fear that the poor zeon pilot was feeling that very moment the gundam grabbed his zaku and destroyed most of its head with a single swing.
@@mattiasilva1705 absolutely, there was no way they could’ve animated something on that level back in 79. Kinda hopeful we’ll one day get the full Origins story animated, seeing as shows like Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Space Battleship Yamato have gotten recent remakes
I must say years ago the free site slow rolling the release did its job. I think I bought everything from the prequel chapter to the finale... Maybe I know I got as far as the revised duel on Texas Colony but not sure from there.
I know you mostly make videos on Gundam but can you make a video on Ideon? I honestly would love you hear your perspective on it especially an in depth analysis. There isn’t that much content on it on TH-cam, which is a shame because it’s an amazing series. People seem to only remember it as the show where everyone dies but I believe it has a lot more to offer than just shock value.
YES YES YES I have been planning to make a set of videos on it for literally a year, I really wanna do it justice, especially when talking about Be Invoked, but I will 100% make a couple videos dedicated to Ideon soon because I love it so much.
Apparently there’s a divide in the Japanese/eastern fan base about this manga and the anime. Like there’s flame wars about the movies, tv show and origin manga and which is the best version. Compared to over in the west where we think that all of them are good gateways into the series, and will say “either the movies or tv show is fine.” Apparently there’s also a political aspect to it, but it’s hard to tell because we are western fans. Apparently the manga artist isn’t well liked by right wing Gundam fans.
I could tell especially from the way the Zabi Family’s depicted. Especially with Gihren, and it’s more of an “Imperialist Japan” than what most people associate them with (Nazis). I think the origin does well with those political aspects but it’s really interesting when you have to think about many people’s different affiliations and ideas. That’s what makes this series great and it has a lot more nuance. Thanks for mentioning this btw, I’ve been meaning to talk about this in my series review for the future :)
@@CheemsBased you’re welcome. That makes a lot of sense why that would be controversial. It kinda reminds me how Star Wars combined Nazi and British imperialism which is relevant to Americans.
