06:40 this one from Shinkai Makoto is so pretty and sad. It's the ilustration from inside Island Iffish Colony, the capital banchi of Side 2, Hatte. The characters is Yuki Snow and Fang Li, two lovers from the colony. Gundam Origin anime use their perspective from inside the colony to describe the condition just before zeon drop Island Iffish into the Earth.
These reviews are so in-depth, you covered everything, thank you! Have you checked out the Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind box set? Those are amazing quality
Hey! Thank you so much!!! Means a lot to hear that and I really appreciate your kind words. I have not checked out the Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Box Set yet, but you are the second person to recommend it to me, so I need to get on that!
Hello there, tysm for your review as a gundam fan myself, ive never seen this manga in my whole thirty’ish years of life. And somehow i was blessed with this recommendation. Sorry about my poor english, im brazilian…. Now its time to login in my amzn and import this whole masterpiece
Excellent review and presentation. I just got into Gundam after years and years of ignoring it. Going through the first three condensed films of the series now, and this manga definitely looks like it will flesh out the story better, in addition to pacing it better. Gonna try to get my hands on them!!!
I feel like it should’ve been mentioned that the anime only adapts the arc about Char’s backstory. Anyway, great review. The Origin is maybe my all time favorite manga. And Char is easily my favorite villain of all time
I just recently picked up the first volume since I just got into manga, been loving it so far and I’m almost half way done and just got it 2 days ago!!
Love The Origin, I actually think it’s the definitive telling of First Gundam, even more so than the anime. Also I love that CLAMP is straight up extra thirsty for (the more evil/sociopathic Origin version of) Char in their interview in Vol. 2.
Is there any major changes from original other than Amuro and Char dieing? I’m trying to get a friend onto Gundam and he has no time for original series and movies suck as they leave out to much context. He likes to read manga. He has seen thunderbolt and liked it.
@@nickgennady Amuro and Char don’t die in The Origin, the main changes are the order of certain events, mostly due to having the route they take on earth actually make sense, and the huge flashback in volumes 5-7. Oh and much like the movies (which really are not bad) it cuts out all the stupid “Suit of the week” stuff the original anime had due to having to try and sell toys.
@@Cagliostro81 ok I ordered first 3 books of origin to read and will get the rest. I was told by multiple TH-camrs that Amuro and Char die in Origins but them living makes more sense so that’s fine.
@@nickgennady Excellent, I hope you enjoy them! Yeah no, they both live. The only version of the OYW were either die is the OG novel trilogy where Amuro dies at A Baoa Qu. The last bit of story in volume 12 is a side story that takes place somewhere between 0084-0086 with Amuro, Frau, Hayato, and the orphans. It sets up some stuff from Zeta and is a neat little story.
I just started re-reading the first volume, because I held off on buying the other volumes for whatever reason. That being said, The artwork in this series in incredible.
I remember holding off on buying them until they went on sale, so took me a bit to pick them up too. And I agree! The artwork is breathtaking and the color pages are beautiful to witness too!
I haven't read it but from what I hear about it, I wish they'd make a full anime adaptation of this. I feel like it would land better than other Gundam shows in the past several years and make the most definitive animated version of this story. Because all we currently have is the OG anime and movie complications which each have their own problems.
Man, thank you so much!!! That's awesome that you are going to look into getting these. Definitely worth it and some of the most beautiful editions I've ever seen!
They really are! I feel like I stare at them forever when I get to them in the volumes, but this happens with the artwork on the black and white pages too!
I also love alot of the Gundam's series deep discussions on the totality of war and how no war is ever justified. As well as each character's relationship to war and violence.
Hey, I'm happy I finally did the video because it's one of my favorites! I'll have more Gundam manga content coming in the future too 😄 I can add that to the list! I own the Neon Genesis Evangelion omnibuses, so I can do a review of them in the future.
Good review! I have the first 3 volumes thus far. I found my volume 1 would barely stay open, and was constantly trying to shut itself in me (I believe in the hardcover collector community a book that does this is refered to as a mouse-trap). I have to hold it open at all times while reading, even when it is laid flat and while open at the halfway point of the book. A bit frustrating. On the other hand, I found that my volumes 2 and 3 stayed open with no trouble at all. I can lay it open flat on a table and let go of it - it'll stay open. Maybe volume 1 was made differently from the others? Anyone else have this issue with their volume 1?
It's worth noting that Mobile Suit Gundam and The Origin have different continuities. I don't recall hearing this explicitly said in the review, so my apologies if you did. You did say it's a retelling of MSG but I think a lot of people can interpret that as being a remake or replacement for the original story. There's so many differences in The Origin that the Gundam wiki even had to make completely separate pages for characters, battles, and MS present in The Origin.
Ah yeah, I did my best to hone that in! I mentioned something about it not stepping on the original story's toes, but enhancing it and adding more to the story. It really pays homage to the original while being a more mature retelling that added more back story and elements to the story. But I definitely should have mentioned the differences more but didn't want to spoil anything for anyone who's looking to read it for the first time! Good point about the wiki though! That's a good place for someone to go if they are looking to see the specific differences.
@@mohammadrayhanbaras9172 The Origin changes too much to properly slot in with the main UC content, but it's such a complete and fulfilling story on its own it'd be a disservice to dismiss it as "non-canon" or irrelevant. Gundam is loaded with alternative versions to established events. The original series has the anime, films, manga, and novels (and TO) which are all different from each other; Zeta has the anime and films; Char's Counterattack has the film and the Beltorchika's Children novel and manga, both of which themselves are adapted from the High-Streamer novel. Looking at AU series, Wing has the Endless Waltz OVA which completely retconned the TV designs of the Gundams, and the Glory of the Losers manga which retells the original anime. The sheer amount of quality content through original material, retellings, and reinterpretations is what makes Gundam so great.
@@Ryio5 Zeta also got a Manga retelling as well for a third continuity called Zeta Define that follows on from Char's Deleted Affair. (And has Sayla for all Beltorchika haters.) And 0083 has the Rebellion manga.
Hey! Thank you so much for the kind words! This figure is the Megahouse GGG Char figure and I got him on AmiAmi. He is currently sold out on sites, but I'd keep an eye out for a future re-release. Thank you so much as always for your kind words!!! They are high up there in terms of quality and are probably my favorite; They are up there with the Dark Horse Deluxe Editions, but I just love the different artwork you see on the covers. I both really like and dislike the garma changes in thr Manga, making him a war criminal (ordering the refusal of surrender) even if a lesser crime than his siblings or father was not something I liked.
