      @@TanukiType I heard MSG: Hathaway was truly amazing and have 2 more movie following. You probably already saw the movie already but the storyline plot is all about Bright and Mirai Yashima-Noa's son Hathaway Noa now all grown up... Mobile Fighter G Gundam is definitely not my favorite show because it sucks no offense. I like my Gundam shows with a lot of suspense military espionage thriller and not a Shonen Battle Royale. You kind of contradict yourself saying that you don't like Gundam Build Fighters because they go in an Arena and battle each other which Gundam Fighter G Gundam practically doing the same thing but with martial arts 😂 lol. Gundam 00 who was the first in the series to use 1080p restoration and I am on the second season. For what I've seen so far it's a fan favorite alongside Iron-Blooded Orphans. Mobile Suit Gundam will be much cooler if they were fighting human looking aliens just like the MSG 00 movie...... MSG: Seed came out with a new continuation movie on January 2024 called Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom that takes place years later Destiny while MSG: IBO have another project coming soon titled Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urðr-Hunt.

    My entry point was Gundam Wing back in the early 2000s. Since then, I’ve seen Endless Waltz, 08th MS Team, Char’s Counterattack, G, SEED, 0080, 0083, SD Gundam Force, Build Divers, Build Divers Re:Rise, the first season of Witch from Mercury, 00, and my personal favorite Iron-Blooded Orphans.

    When I first got into anime in the late 90s, the first full anime series I ever watched was Toonami's first broadcast of Gundam Wing. I managed to tape the entire series and I still have those tapes somewhere. I had already been turned on to serialized storytelling by way of the 90s X-Men cartoon and I was impressed that Gundam Wing was even more mature than that show (in the sense that it told a complex story with lots of twists and turns and loads of subplots and expected the viewer to keep up). Not long after that, I watched the Adult Swim broadcast of Gundam 0083 and at that point I was hooked on the franchise for life.

    Actually, 0080: War in the Pocket mostly takes place in 0079. Specifically, around Christmas. Only the very end takes place in 0080.

    Friend, this video was awesome! I was listening to it while a my work and i'm glad I found it. As someone relatively new to anime, it really helps explain the Gundam franchise and how vast and amazing but also accessible it is. I have already seen several ones I am eager to watch hanks to you. Plus, the way you narrate is very fitting and feels so genuine and shows how knowledgeable you are. Thanks.

    Awesome video and really informative. I'd love to see you do more in-depth reviews of the singular series or even other animes. I also really like your somewhat frantic (but well-edited) video style. It gives your whole video a good light-hearted and funny undertone and sets it apart from other gundam/anime retrospective videos. I'd say lean into that on your channel overall. This video struck a good balance between funny chaos and informative order :)

    As an angsty kid, Victory Gundam was my favorite of the franchise. Something about the frivolity of the deaths really hit me as a kid, it seemed to make sense to me that in war having friends suddenly die becomes normal and sadly expected- even if in retrospect a lot of it comes off kind of ridiculous(especially the scene where Uso massacres the space bikini girl raiders).

    Wow, this was very informative!
    I've watched the three movies on VHS when I was in my teens, but when I got older and someone pointed out it also was a full series I got the DVD set and also watched War in the Pocket and the 0083 Stardust Memories too when it came out of Cartoon Network's Toonami and bought the unedited version on DVD later.
    The 8th team was good too and liked the idea of a Non-newtype themed show and it just save a taste of how a Mobile Suit teams without someone like Amuro Ray among them fight against Zeon's invasion forces in the jungles in mass produced ground types units. (Note: the Love story was cool too)
    (Note: never knew about Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin and Thunderbolt and will end up looking for them... Thanks by the way)
    Then I watched the full series of Zeta Gundam and Double Zeta on DVD and after watching this I'm going to end up watching them again. (Note: Wasn't a big fan of the G-Fighter version)
    I also ended up watching Gundam Wing which had me interested at the beginning but stayed with it up to Endless Waltz.

    42:15 its funny because Gundam F91 was created, in a way, to make smaller Gundams so they could cut down on plastic (I do like the cannon reasons for the smaller mobile suits in F91 though) but they forgot that if they change the size, they have to change the molds, meaning they couldn't re use any of the previous molds for the 'new' Gundam kits. So that eventually had to be scrapped. Turns out the big wigs ideas in regards to merchandise aren't really thought out very well............no surprise.

    I recently started watching IBO after seeing The Witch from Mercury and decided to give this a look because I'm interested in watching more series after. Although I've been watching anime since the late 90s Gundam has always passed me by because it didn't really have much of a following in the UK when I was young and there is just so much to watch. After seeing this I think I'm going to tackle the UC timeline, Type-A and 00. It's really good to see a video that clearly explains what they are all about and the best ways to get into the franchise. ps - I'm definitely buying some Gunpla too.

    I’m actually looking to get into Gundam properly! I really wanna appreciate the world, the characters, and all the good stuff (and bad) that comes with it. I’m not picky at all.
    I’ve seen 00 and parts of Seed growing up but I really don’t remember much of either of them at all, it was a long time ago. But I do remember really enjoying them.
    So I been trying to find a proper guide that explains all the timelines with a proper watch order. So far I’m finding this video helpful and really insightful
    Hopefully there is a good written version somewhere you can recommend to bookmark as well?
    Also, I have the 1979 version you showed at the beginning on Blu-ray, but not Part 2 .. the manga for the Origin I also had as well but I lost them in a flooding.. I don’t deserve to get into the franchise .. 😅
    I’m a collector of anime/manga so I’m definitely interested in collecting more

    Enjoyed the vid, especially the Tomino Talks.
    I got into Gundam during 2nd grade when Gundam Wing was aired in '98, then they aired G then X each year after that.
    I managed to watch 0079 in Animax in 2006 after I managed to watch Seed in 2004 at Cartoon Network, loved them both. Loved Seed for cultured reasons aside from the mech design. Saw the plot similarities with the two as an adult as I was learning how to analyze plot lines in shows.
    I definitely agree with Age, as my friend called it "UC for Kids" and with Build Fighters being "Valhalla" with 1 episode before the first series ended (Ep.23 I think.).
    For Build Fighters I liked it since it was reminiscent to a series I watched before called "Angelic Layer" where girls pit their dolls against each other in a miniature colosseum. It got me started into building Gunpla too.

    I definitely recommend watching 0083 before Zeta. I bring that up because 0083 was my first foray into the UC. When I went back to the older series I discovered 0083 was made after Zeta and I thought. "Wait, Zeta released and no one was bothered with how the federation become so blatantly tyrannical and oppressive/corrupt so soon after Mobile suit Gundam (I mean they were never saints but DAMN that was fast). In retrospect 0083 answers that with "yeah they over corrected after Zeon remnants dropped ANOTHER colony on Earth." Was that ever brought up in Zeta or did that get retconned for 0083? I don't think I ever found out.

  • @FMAlchemist2006
    @FMAlchemist2006 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So I arrived like 2 years later for this comment:
    For 0079, it is actually better to watch the 3 movies. The reason is that (according to Tomino himself) he improved and corrected several parts of the series that did not come out good. For example, some of the weapons of the RX-79-2. Also, the third movie is 75% new animation, as the quality of the animation got worse and worse from about mid series onwards, due to the animation director falling seriously ill. So whenever a Gundam series has compilation movies, I watch them. Yes, the Z movies are weird as they mix two very different kinds of animation (and I hate the openings and endings by Gackt), and the Turn A Gundam first movie is a mix of cut and glue scenes without much context. But usually the movies are a more polished version of the series.
    As for Reconguista in G, it is the first Gundam series that shows us a post-UC era. It also shows a moon civilization that is completely separate from Earth civilization, unlike what we see in the UC where you only have a few bases/cities. This paves the way towards what we see in Turn A Gundam.

    18:57 I think I'm one of the few outliers who didn't really care for Zeta Gundam. It brought up some interesting ideas but it seemingly recycled events/plotlines multiple times over the course of the series. Part of that was due to contractual obligations so we had a lot of space battles were nothing of significance happened. Making the repeated encounters seem more annoying then anything. It certainly wasn't BAD but I found myself more invested in 0083, ZZ and the first half or so of Victory.

    Give Seed a chance to finish it until Destiny and specially, they'll be releasing a new movie either at the end of 2023 or they might've changed the release date according to what I've heard to sometime around 2024. It also has a good story and animation to it just you'll hate Shinn Asuka (spoiler) and might curse him throughout the series 😅😂😂

    You know, SD gundam was also my introduction, I just didn't realize it was actually gundam until much, much later. I usually attribute my first to Seed instead because its the first one I actually understood as Gundam.

    Are the shows before the year 2000 really worth my time? Since Im mostly an eyecandy watcher and older series kind of make me cringe with older animations.

    Do you agreed that is sort of the right order to watch the Mobile Suit Gundam UC Timeline including the movies, OVA and ONA⬇️
    Mobile Suit Gundam UC Timeline
    -------------------------------------------------------
    ◇The Orgin: Advent of the Red Comet
    ◇MSG {Movies 1-3}
    ◇Cucuruz Doan's Island {Movie}
    ◇The 08th MS Team
    ◇ War in the Pocket
    ◇Thunderbolt {Movies}
    ◇Stardust Memory
    ◇Zeta Gundam{ Skip Double Zeta}
    ◇ Char's Counterattack {Movie}
    ◇Unicorn RE: 0096
    ◇Gundam Narrative {Movie}
    ◇Hathaway {Movie}
    ◇Gundam F91 {Movie}
    In my opinion I do not recommend myself to watching MSG in it fullest because most people like me don't really have time because of work and under priorities. Plus I'm not big of a fan for the monster/big guys of the week in my Gundam series. I just want a focus main story plot like the other MSG series with the political war suspense drama type. The movie pretty much help narrowing down that. Now I only wish that the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam movie was in English so I can do that as well😂 lol..... I will watch Zeta in it's fullest but I'm not going to watch Double Zeta since it's not that good.

    1 year ago but, ive always had a thing for robots/mechs fighting big monsters or other robots/mechs, pacific rim for example, awesome movie, the 2nd movie kinda pooped on it all, but the third show on netflix made up for it in my opinion, and i kinda hated how humans were basically the whole entire plot and the mechs just fight stuff for the stuff, but oh was i in a surprise when i learned about gundam, the human action is kinda enjoyable, and i LOVE the gundam designs, my favorite gundam is the GM sniper gundam though i havent really gotten into gundam yet so i dont know anything yet, just heard of it and thought it looked SLICK

    Just wanted to toss in my two cents. I started in gundam with wing then seed and seed destiny. Having watched seed, seed disteny first then trying to watch the original 0079 I couldn't get through it. The reluctant hero at first works but the pouting and refusing to fight only to end up fighting then back to refusing to fight episode after episode kills it for me. Maybe if I had been in my teens instead of my 30s it might have hit different with me.

    • @TanukiType
      @TanukiType  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's funny, because it's actually the opposite fore me. I was super annoyed with Amuro when I first watched the show as a teenager in high school, but upon re-watching it in my 20s I found him much more understandable.

    I also noticed alot of "what if? " for each timeline and what they do toward next evolution such as newtypes or other forms of newtypes abilities.
    Universal Century : EFF wiped out any existent of newtype out of fear and lack of control while others wanted to use newtypes for political, economical and Holy war for world dominance.
    After War: Same as 0079, but Both sides recognize Newtypes and weaponize them with mini colony laser, and bits mobile suits.
    Anno Domini: Concepts of Newtypes were discovered much early on than any timelines, and actually prevent from becoming the next Universal Century.
    Cosmic Era: Coordinator (Gundam seed ver of Newtype) is disgusting and unfair RRREEEEE
    Advanced Generation: Concepts of Newtypes and A.I were pretty much forgotten and wiped out due to a terrible war, but came back after Earth Feds abandon angry martian who couldn't find a cure..
    Post Disaster: Concepts of Gundam with Alaya-Vijnana System and A.I were pretty much forgotten and wiped out due to a terrible war, but came back after Earth Nobles abandon angry flag racing martian who want Independence..
    Ad Stella: Corporation saw Permat (Witch from Mercury ver of newtypes) as a weapon that doom humanity it's cursed and must be destroyed, because i said so.

    This is how i review UC up till char's counterattack (i do not watch the compilation movies)
    1) Gundam 0079 (Essential, very old animation but story is good. I wish they will do a modern remake of this (Not Gundam Seed, but an actual remake of 0079 with today's technologies)
    2) Gundam The Origin (Essential, amazing animation, gives alot of backstory for Char but watch after 0079 because like what Tanuki said, you will appreciate the ironies in Origin more if you watch 0079 first. The ending of Origin ties in to 0079 beautifully and i fucking love that ending scene.)
    3) Zeta Gundam (THIS IS FUCKING SHIT. I have no idea why people say this is good. In Gundam 0079, Char and Amuro wanted to kill each other so badly, and in Zeta, suddenly they are now BEST BUDDIES???? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! Kamille is a super whiny bitch and every battle is a waste of time where no one dies until the last 3 episodes where suddenly everyone start dying. Don't waste your time with this hype. People who say Zeta is the best have never watched Zeta. I wasted my time watching this piece of GARBAGE.
    4) ZZ Gundam (Before Episode 20, this is FUCKING SHIT. Episode 20 is ACTUALLY very good (I LOVE CECILIA) and everything else till the end is actually VERY GOOD. ZZ is SO MUCH BETTER THAN ZETA. You actually care for the team. (Beecham and Mondo are fucking shit and should have died though) Judau is so much better and a more likable character than fucking Kamille.)
    5) Char's Counterattack (ESSENTIAL. THIS IS WHAT YOU WATCH UC FOR. but watching this can be confusing as I feel there should be a series after ZZ to better explain what is going on. Why is Char and Amuro suddenly trying to kill each other after being best buddies in Zeta?)
    One thing I don't like UC is how they exploit NewType powers.
    Its bloody lazy storytelling to suddenly have NewTypes predict the future, create a magical barrier to be able to deflect lazer beams and even aim accurately with pinpoint precision a target that no one can see. That's not cool, thats just lazy story telling.

    I got into anime in 2014. I knew about the Gundam, but wasn't really interested. Although at some point, i was starting to think that i should watch some Gundam, because giant robot fights are cool. Probably would have started with "00", but at the end i didn't.
    But when "Iron Blooded Orphans" were comming out i was interested and hyped af. But i waited for a season to be finished and dubbed. And the same with 2nd season. And after watching it all i can say that it's my 2nd favorite anime (Black Lagoon is 1st). ... 2nd season and the end made me cry like a b*tch, damn, even now remembering it im tearing up :<
    The ending was spliting the fans tho. I understand why, but i personaly was fine with the ending. But i did encountered some close minded losers in few youtube comment sections that were sh*tting on the ending, because they thought that endings should always be happy and positive like in some shonens.
    But for some time me and others are still wondering whats up with "Gundam: IBO - Urdr Hunt" - we knows it's a game, but will it gona have anime too, or just animated shorts for the game or just as specials!?!?
    Some time later i decided to watch "Unicorn", because most Gundam fans praises it and say that you don't really need to watch original Gundam for it, and it looked cool.
    So i started it (OVA) and then after 5 episodes i puted it on a pause, and now it has been on pause for some 3-4 years. Why? Because it was boring.
    There were some stuff mentioned from original Gundam, so i was a bit confused. As i said, it was boring, because there wasn't that much of Gundam fighting. The main guy was mostly on defence rather than offence. Maybe last 2 episodes had nice fighting, idk. ... so i have decided, that i will only watch this again only after i have watched original Gundam and it sequels and extra stuff until Unicorn.
    I was interested to watch "MS Team" and "Thunderbolt", i even was interested to maybe buy Thunderbolt manga, because that's the original not the anime. But naaaah, if i watch anything of UC Gundam, then i rather just start with the original and just go chronological order.
    But what's up with "Origin"? I'm interested in that too. But it's based on a manga that has 0079 events, like an alternative version of original Gundam anime. Or it isn't that much of a change and it's mostly the same as original anime, so that Origin OVA are fine prequel to original anime!?
    I was interested and hyped for "The Witch from Mercury" when i saw PV. But at some point i kind of lost that interest. But maybe i will watch it when all seasons are out and fully dubbed.
    And maybe at some point i will start to watch other Gundams too.
