I love the OG and how the nostalgia kicks in, but I would kill for a shot for shot remake using modern techniques. Both Char and Amuros original voice actors are still alive, as well as Tomino of course. Seems like the perfect time since Gundam has blown up so much overseas
The first time I watched these movies was in the late 90s on cable and without subtitles, it was mind blowing at the time. The movie trilogy were good compilation but there are still parts of the series that I wish were included.

i know a lot of the other gundam shows are supposed to be like a similar take on the original but man, Seed really took a lot more from the original than I realized.
I have a headcanon that Gihren's betrayal of his father had more far reaching consequences just Kacilia killing him. I feel by killing alot of the Federation top brass with the Colony Laser it caused the more corrupt leaders in the Federation like Jamitov to be the ones higher in the ranks allowing him to take control and form the Titans.
I hope they make gundam thunderbolt season 3. I’m caught up with the latest chapters that are translated. I hope we get more UC animes. Not a fan of build divers.
The first UC Gundam I watched was the original series, not the movies. Still see why it spawned the whole franchise. The movies are superior for cutting out a lot of the fat, but the plot, characters, and overall themes are just so crisp even 40 years later.
My 13-year-old son wants to get in a Gundam and I think I'm going to hunt down for the English dubs of the movies. I don't think it's fair to try to sit in through the inferior product even though it's my personal favorite
@@abramwalker882 Origin Dub may also be easier to source/more up to date pacing and animation. I know I would have probably preferred that when I was younger.
@@perotekku yeah but the origin movies don't really encompass the story of Mobile Suit Gundam, so he can't really understand what made it so special(and thus he won't understand Zeta as well which is my FAVORITE FAVORITE lol or CCA). The UC is what interests him most right now so I'm trying to give him a foundation for what everything else was built on so he can watch 0080, 08th MS team or even 0083.
@@abramwalker882 I'm 100% with you, man. Zeta is my favourite, and I would say you definitely need to watch the original series to appreciate it. And the Origin is great because of the context from having seen the original series first. Thunderbolt is a great entry to UC, but a little dark.

Q: if you were tasked with writing the Legendary/Sunrise collaboration live action gundam movie with Netflix... what would you portray? IMHO, I'd come up with a novel universe for the movie that's as close as i can get to an updated UC gundam universe, complete with minovski physics, the sides, overpopulation and newtypes... but condense the plot almost like 0080 meets f91, but with a basic gundam plot: latent newtype angsty kid whose parents work on the gundam project gets thrust into the horrors of war and because of his background in gaming amd robotics at his high school he pilots the new prototype to victory... enter a char character to drive political intrigue. But make the style like Interstellar meets "The Creator". Mayve you could introduce something like a psychoframe, and mind based piloting or the bio-computer, to explain how fast the protagonist learns, meanwhile the enemy has a plan to drop a colony and must be stopped and theyre piloting a powerful mobile armor with funnels, but the hero wins by "feeling" them and or communicating with an Ally to do a coordinated attack... but in the process they "understand" an enemy who then dies and this tears them apart... In a heroic turn of evebts the gundam saves them but is destroyed, meanwhile the villain uses the confusion to get revenge, and leads a coup which results in a cease fire. Mayve do a scene with nukes where newtyoe powwrs get used to destroy the nukes early like in Chars coubterattack.
Great video. I needed this. The first thing I ever saw was the Origin. Which was fitting...and it was great. So I have been watching in order but I skipped the movies because they felt too slow. But I also needed to know certain things. I'm up to Zeta now and even though I'm watching in UC order it's still a unique experience because the multiple animation and music styles that each series takes on does NOT disrupt the consistent flow of the story and their characters. It didn't feel out of place to watch Thunderbolt and then Starsust memory even though they were created 20+ yrs apart.

(Or maybe I'm using a different continuity, Japan doesn't really put weight on canon timelines like we do). The info I had was that Zeon asked for independence, and Terra gave it to them in a "now choke on it" maneuver -- it fully expected the economic disruption to ruin the fledgling state. It was basically Brexit in space, except externally inflicted.
Before, I hated the old animation and it makes me want to stop watching the old series but when i started to Understand the Plot of it and the story, I became a Universal Century fan and watched it all.

Yep! A lot of AU Gundam series essentially remake the original series in a new time period. Gundam Wing, for example, copies the idea of the main female character being related to the blonde masked villain, but has a whole team of Gundams instead of just one.

Though 00 itself takes more inspiration from Wing making it a soft reboot of a soft reboot. All of them stand on their own for the most part and are good "first" series to watch. Too bad Seed never got a second season :P. (I'm kidding lol)

What do you think about the movie version's rearranging of the Texas colony events? I always was thrown off by that because in all 0079 media, except the movie version, the Texas event happens after Solomon.
would it be recommended to watch the original 1979 43-episode series, or just watch this trilogy compilation to save time? i still can't decide. even though this channel helped me to digest the essence of the trilogy, but i feel like there are so many characters and things going on. if i did not watch the origin, i would not understand a thing. so would watching the longer 43-episode series be better such that i can slowly understand this complex story?
Overall pretty good. The reason Amaro took the Gundam was b/c he was the only one with any knowledge on how to use it. Also, i never got the impression that LaLa and Amaro were sole mates, just bonded through their new type connection. Char hadn't really developed this yet.

I like the Movie Trilogy because it was the first time I saw boobs back in 1990 on Cantonese LaserDiscs and then I watched the comedic SD Gundam OVA on VHS and I didn't understand what was going on besides most of the UC characters being perverts lol...I only remember 3 names in Cantonese, "A Boa", "Ma Sa" and "Ga Mei Yau" haha. I started rewatching all UC stories on Yellow English Subtitles on DVD in the late 90's while my friends lent me G-Generation after I bought a modded PS1 in Hong Kong for $140.
Can someone tell me what's next in the gundam timeline I've always played the games but was too young to understand what was going on, I just enjoyed destroying while getting surrounded by the enemy
oh there's a bunch, if you want to see the development of same characters like Amuro and Char check out Zeta. if you want to follow UC chronologically: 08ms, MS IGLOO, 0080 War in the Pocket, Thunderbolt, 0083 Stardust, and then Zeta. Probably more fun to go straight to watching Zeta gundam in my opinion.

Today, the 24th of July 2022 is the first time that I have actually watched any Gundam Series or even episode of any type, including even a recap, and I am over 40. I've known of the cool looking piloted robots and the huge cylindrical space habitats for decades, and also for many years I have read and heard that Gundam is military SciFi, delving into strategy, with the politics of intrigue, while also going deep into character development of the major characters, but even watching this video recap, I am amazed that it is actually so compelling.

I didn’t watch your zeta Gundam videos because I didn’t want to get spoiled but I just wanted to know is Zeta Gundam worth watching all 50 episodes. Is there any episode that are bit filler like? I did start to watch like 17 episodes of wing Gundam and I personally didn’t quite like it. I just felt like it was a very slow pace show in my opinion.
yeah, old series are very slow by today's standards. it's tough for me to re-watch the old series too. People think Zeta series is worth watching because it's considered canon, but I don't think it's very exciting by today's standards and will bore most people. The story is mostly the same and you'll probably have more fun watching the trilogy first and then watch the 50 episode at 1.5x speed to see what they cut out from the series.
I’m OK with slow pace storytelling as long as The dialogue serves a purpose to the story and as long as there’s not filler to it. For example in Gundam 0079 the characters had like no more salt in white base. I was like “I never thought We would have to worry about salt in a show”. I didn’t think it was that important to the story. As long as there’s enough drama and music that helps with that I’m OK with it. (Hope that makes sense)
I think you should just go ahead and start, No need to watch anything else before starting any series. If you enjoyed it, you'll naturally start looking into other series and their relationship to one another.

I've known of the cool looking piloted robots and the huge cylindrical space habitats for decades, and also for many years I have read and heard that Gundam is military SciFi, delving into strategy, with the politics of intrigue, while also going deep into character development of the major characters, but even watching this video recap, I am amazed that it is actually so compelling.

I didn’t watch your zeta Gundam videos because I didn’t want to get spoiled but I just wanted to know is Zeta Gundam worth watching all 50 episodes. Is there any episode that are bit filler like? I did start to watch like 17 episodes of wing Gundam and I personally didn’t quite like it. I just felt like it was a very slow pace show in my opinion.
yeah, old series are very slow by today's standards. it's tough for me to re-watch the old series too. People think Zeta series is worth watching because it's considered canon, but I don't think it's very exciting by today's standards and will bore most people. The story is mostly the same and you'll probably have more fun watching the trilogy first and then watch the 50 episode at 1.5x speed to see what they cut out from the series.
I’m OK with slow pace storytelling as long as The dialogue serves a purpose to the story and as long as there’s not filler to it. For example in Gundam 0079 the characters had like no more salt in white base. I was like “I never thought We would have to worry about salt in a show”. I didn’t think it was that important to the story.
As long as there’s enough drama and music that helps with that I’m OK with it. (Hope that makes sense)

I think you should just go ahead and start, No need to watch anything else before starting any series. If you enjoyed it, you'll naturally start looking into other series and their relationship to one another.
