He was afraid to go down. 😂
ya but you should buy it
Lol the original video actually showed up in my algorithm a while ago. I clicked and watched it. I was wondering what would Arvin think about the house and place. Now, we have this video of Arvin.
Same for me :)
same, like 5 days ago
I watched it yesterday thinking to myself what would Arvin say. Literrally a day later this vid pops up.
At your service
"It's not my fault. It's the asphalt." 😂😂😂
That was WAY smoother than it had to be. Bravo Arvin! Bravo!😂😂😂
Lol
I can't believe I missed that😂
“I would tear it down, pretend it never existed”!! 😂
Once again Arvin at his best.
Love it 👍🏻
Imagine trying to sleep in the main house at night during a heavy rain with thunder and lightning? it would take a handful of Xnax and a couple pints of whisky at the least...
Ha haha! - & when you finally wake up after the Xnax & whisky you’re hanging by your duvet half way down a cliff. 😂
Arvin: Say Bugatti again. SAY Bugatti again! And I dare you, I double dare you . Say Bugatti one more time.
Yea, Pulp fiction
This is going to be going into the pacific next time there's a 7 on the san andreas
I mean, you could move from one casida to the next if the main house falls into the ocean, always one step ahead of the abyss.
@@cdev2117 This gives all new meaning to "sleeping your way to the top!"
It's not your fault, it's the San Andreas Fault.
I grew up on the Northern California Coast, in an amazing house with a stunning view, slung off the side of a hill. No thank you. The road to our house needed perpetual work. A wise man builds his house upon a rock that is not sliding into the ocean. When I grew up, I happily moved into a humble tract house in the suburbs.
Saw the original and how they "Glossed" over the fact an entire road access washed away, right next to the house.
Time to sit down and watch Arvin's commentary.
Good counter Mr. Haddad : Ah it's flat u say? "Then put your Thunderbird in neutral "
😅
I'm digging the balance of positive and negative in your videos recently. I love the rants (that's why we click, I'll be honest), but I love the suggestions and examples you provide of designs you'd like to see, or what you look for in a place, and what each property does well . Always love the videos. Glad I found your channel, and look forward to your honest breakdowns. Great work. Thanks, Arvin!
Thanks pal
If you are going through divorce, buy that house and give it to her as a divorce settlement so you can say and it'll be truer than ever: "She's gone with the house."
I had a feeling Arvin was going to mention something about that horse sculpture. Here in Portland at the international airport we have, I think, three of them gracing the entrance to the airport. They really are amazing.
sometimes animals know what's up before we do
I thought the artist was Debora Butterfield.
One of the legendary Arvin reviews. Can’t believe the attention to detail on the cracks!
Thanks buddy
@@ArvinHaddadOfficial Arvin has a lot of experience watching videos with cracks.
I really like Arvin's long-form videos because they are very educational I have learned a lot from this channel and his long-form videos... Keep the good work sire!
agreed! one of the few channels i learn a lot of stuff i feel will come in handy. cheers to u and arvin!
Every high end realtor is going to be sweating now thinking of Arvin doing a peer review/edit on their videos 😂 Nobody is safe
Around the 7:15 mark, the young man mentions "Redwoods". They are mostly big Eucalyptus which are a giant fire hazard (see Oakland Hills fire of 91).
@@juzi68 he says being there in the rain like it's a good thing to have to worry about is my Casita going to be smashed by a tree or slide into the ocean.
Yes, they have poor root structure and burn exceptionally hot.
Ask anyone who's been in Australia a few years, they burn quick and allow bushfires to travel fast.
At 0:37 you can see non-vertical trees - characteristic of significant slope movement. The lower structure appears to be built on a rocky outcrop though - so it might not be as perilous as it looks. Great video Arvin!
I was wondering why that shot gave me a sense of vertigo.
Until the land above the house slides on top of you bringing your funicular with it. No, thank you.
The gardens in this place are really beautiful.
" It's the asphalt!" Good one Arvin
I golf-clapped
The CRACK! That right there would scare me away pronto.
I expect they will spend a few years trying to sell this property because of that risk.
Those artificial ponds usually have a liner at the bottom to prevent water seepage, but it still doesn't make mudslides less of a concern. I agree with Arvin though, would not touch this property unless I got an independent geological survey and risk assessment.
It also doesn't do anything to solve the issue of the weight that the water adds
ya and as the earth moves that liner gets cracked and water leaks
landslides are the height of luxury.
“I wanna see it. I wanna see how we’re gonna get there. “ 🤣🤣🤣
These realtors are basically pretty guys with good connections.
Dude I saw the original and was like wow what an amazing property. And then Arvin does it again and exposes all the flaw!! I tell you when I make it big and go to buy my mansion. I am definitely hiring Arvin to do a once over with me before I purchase!!!
Can’t wait
Arvid! Please, please, please do a video for 410 Trousdale Place in Beverly Hills. It's one crazy property that is for sale.
Wow, I just looked it up. SOMEONE should go film that one. Truly weird and unique. Thanks for pointing it out 👍🏼
Waiting for someone to do a tour
Jeez, it looks like a funeral home, with a place to prepare the bodies, a furnace and the urns can be placed in the wall of the courtyard...
Interesting!
considering the price, that home is a huge gamble. All it takes is one bad earthquake
Not even one bad one, just one in general and that house is gone💀
or gravity
and a good insurance 😀
Isn't California overdue for one as well?
I'm laughing about the cliff lift. You are correct, imagine you need to go potty and you are on that thing. lol
It all goes downhill from here/splat.
Basically, redo all the guest houses to varying degrees, keep garden and gardener. But before that, hire ground inspector or something.
Those are good ideas but I just can't get my head around having to go outside to move between my bedroom/office to the other bedrooms or the kitchen area.
I was hoping you would feature this home. I saw the original video a few weeks ago and like many people thought of how cheap it was for the views, location and amount of acreage you get.
I thought you were going to say that the Koi pond was feeding the birds of prey with the most expensive fish dinners on the planet. I’m sure the Owls, Eagles, and Hawks have a signed agreement.
I grew up in The Hollywood Hills and our neighbors had a funicular just like that one, it took forever to go up and down (they were very old and couldn’t handle the steep stairs).
Thanks Arvin. I can’t imagine how depressing the geological report is for that property.
I genuinely love your channel so much. You shed light on a lot of things most people wouldn't even think about and I feel like I learn a lot watching these videos. You make it all fun and digestible too. Keep doing what you are doing. You have a very unique channel.
That makes me so happy thanks for watching
I watched the original video presentation of the property that you're reviewing when it first came out, and my major question was, "You talk about access to the beach, but you never go down?" Where's the access 😂 i was glad to hear you bring it up in this review.
thats what i was looking for .... cause that soil looked so eroded
😂🤣😂🤣 I swear the first thing I said at 7:16 was “ that looks like a trailer that you can find at **** street down the road from the dollar general here where I live. And then you made me feel like I’m not crazy for thinking that a few seconds later 😂
1:49 this right here. I googled and Arvin is right. It is illegal to import coral reefs 'Especially from Indonesia 🇮🇩. '
The beach access is via parachute
Back home via climbing 😉
The owners and listing agent just added you to their hit list 😂💨
Is it possible that this was actually some sort of therapy retreat, or research center, or New Agey workshop group headquarters? It feels more like a business space than a home. As is, you would be purchasing a gorgeous lot, and then would want to bring in an architect to build a new residence. Thanks for sharing as always!
Bro, your channel deserves millions subs. Keep up!
I appreciate that!
"the gold doorknobs are killing me"
*me suddenly becoming aware of the gold doorknobs in my house😅
I need railings sorry. If you got kids running around. That would be dangerous
First you need 21.5 million dollars.
There was no attention to detail in this shag assembly. Furnitures and finishes are like Hollyday inn vibe. Next to the ok gardening and the main it really doesnt matter if it vanishes. Those shags are horrendous...
I like the 70s
He’s back after a long 4 days 😅😅😅 love the videos
That hobbit guest house should be a child's playhouse -- it is for dogs -- or a child's fort. lol
You are on my speed dial when I win the lottery !
Wow that view is gorgeous. But you are probably right with the erosion. Especially at the main house it looks really dodgy.
that's probably the reason that they are selling.
@@robertcesar9752 Hmm, I hadn't considered it but the road to the main house has washed out and they didn't spend the money to fix it. Also as Arvin it appears there is no actual beach access now so maybe they have experienced some erosion/sliding of bits of the property. So they want out because the cost to keep everything safe (something the sales guy never mentioned) is going to enormous. Easily into the millions.
Arvin please do a video on some of the best Enes houses like NYC 4 Seasons Penthouse or Ryan Serhant's home tour.
Coastal California>Ring of Fire>Earthquakes>Huge WATER-filled Pool for Fish. Yikes, cross my fingers there are no “seeps” under that pool.
correct...because the soil condition is basically sandy soil, that entire cliff edge is basically a big sand dune. The entire cliff side will fall into the ocean! If y'all looking to buy a house on the cliff edge, make sure you look for a house that is built on bedrock. Rocky soil condition or bedrock will take decades / hundreds of years to erode away! You can have the best foundation system in the world, and it wouldn't help if the entire cliff side is sliding down the hill. A good example will be Sea Cliff Neighborhood in San Francisco. Those cliff side homes are built on rocky outcrop and will withstand weathering for years :D
well then look on the bright side, it will turn into a beach-side property.
Not that anyone would spend the money but I wonder if you could dig down a few hundred feet and put in caissons to keep the cliff side from falling into the ocean. Though I suppose if I were going to waste the money on this property the first thing I would do is fix the washed out road and restore the beach access that they clearly lost at some point.
I'm guessing the house wasn't positioned exactly on the edge when it was originally built. We've got houses in our area (on Lake Michigan) built a few decades ago that were built a quarter mile from the lake with a big expansive lawn between the house and the beach, and today they are on stilts hanging over the edge. Water is one of the most powerful forces on earth.
@@Bullistic777 🤣🤣
@@asdfghjkl-pb6kv True. I have been amazed seeing some pics that show how quickly a beach can be eroded or created just due to the water.
BUGATTI
where is ur thunderbird ? im gonna put it in neutral
knowing this beauty would erode into the ocean got me depressed.
a philanthropist who has a collection of endangered/illegal coral, redwood, whale bone (probably from whalers keeping with the japanese theme), oh and last but not least, a sculpture of a woman in a bodybag. seems less james bond, and more dr. evil haha
That would completely suck riding your funicular at a snails pace, just to reach your front door while it's storming it's ass off.
Every time I watch one of them tours, I get so distracted by what I'm seeing that I sometimes forget to listen to what's actually being said. So thanks, Arvin, for pointing out the kooky stuff because that "natural occurrences" bit literally has me dead, and I missed that when I first watched that video 😂😂😂😂 2:04
All properties on cliffs by the ocean on the pacific plate will slowly move and fall away over time. Some places like Big Sur or Palos Verdes are moving faster right now. But even seeing old pictures of Laguna and Malibu from 100 years ago show that there have been significant (5-30 foot) land changes.
No one in their right mind, would buy that property. Huge landslides have been happening throughout Big Sur coastline over the years and then there's the accelerating erosion at its toe, plus over 100,000 acres burned from wildfires over the last decade.
When you were talking about the road I could have sworn you said 'it's not my fault, it's the ass fault.' It took my brain a few seconds to rewind and play it back, to realise you said 'asphalt.' 🤣
Arvin please review the $8,500,000 Chicago Sky Mansion from Erik Van Conover, that is a FUNNY one!
chicago sky mansion +1
Yes, I concur!!!
I saw this a week ago and I thought everything you just said here too. You have taught us well lol!
great meeting you on the treadmills the other day my girlfriend and i are locked in for this one!!!
Same my man
How tall is that dude? In parts of the video he looks 6'2, 3 max, but in some parts he looks way over 7ft tall
I have your channel set for immediate alerts, but I didn't see this for 16 hours. I'm astounded at how much I learn, even after following you for a couple of years and watching every video.
I like the last two structures for their scale and the views, but the others are completely useless. I live in Northern California, and we constantly hear about roads to Big Sur being washed out and residents being stranded. This place is a ridiculous risk. Another perceptive and great video.
I
I watched that house vid as well and completely missed the cracks on that mountainside.
Me: that looks cool
Arvin: that looks hideous
Me: that looks hideous
It looks like it was used as a full amenity event property. Retreats, weddings, etc..
i dont get it. on one hand they really put effort into the gardening and on the other they have these awfull looking little lofts. what happened?!
It definitely has its flaws but I love it
You mention everything before I can even think it - and I agree 100%.
Hawks will steal those koi for lunch. That’s what I was guessing when you asked why koi ponds are a bad idea. That, or because koi are the absolute creepiest things you’ve ever seen - they gross me out. You can try to tell me I’m wrong but it’s a fairly fixed belief. Given how I feel about koi, then you’d not be surprised that I agree with you that putting a house on the side of a cliff over the ocean in an unstable place like Big Sur is not a good idea. But so beautiful there!! If you’ve got $20 mil to throw around, it’s perfect. Thanks for another fun video Arvin!
Question: Have rich people successfully trained the rats and other rodents with all these "indoor/outdoor openings, so they don't come into the house?
I lived in Big Sur for many years and I can tell you this is not the most beautiful home in Big Sur! There are so many great homes in Big Sur proper where high worth individuals have created some amazing properties!! Robert Muller was the owner who was Bugatti collector and had many events of Bugatti owners!
Most properties being built in Big Sur are not the rustic look you seem to like! Mickey Muennig a well known architect designed some of amazing properties in Big Sur! 😊
Your comment about the koi pond… agree on leaks but the mass not so much. All the types of rocks of big sur are at least double the mass of water for the same dimensions.
But the whole property reminds me of a friends on point dume bird view who’s beach path has become a little more precarious over the years.
Well to be fair he said that the pond was a bad idea because it was an unnecessarily weight added to an already delicate situation... even a few more kgs might make the slide faster
@@sarangasmaa9528 yeah, but it looks like the pond was dug rather than natural, but I’m watching a home tour video second hand…
I think it’s so funny when they put wood flooring on a ceiling.
Okay so I lived in Big Sur for a long time and I know where this property is and it's still there after like 40 years of my memory so it hasn't slid off into the ocean yet
Yet.
Are you posting to tell us the obvious? "This video that showed property on a cliff this year did not slide into the ocean in the past 40 years." Okay, thank you, Captain Obvious.
Are you trying to say, "Well, it hasn't slid into the ocean in the past 40 years so it's not going to slide into the ocean because reasons?" That still doesn't make any sense, especially if you live in California. California as a whole isn't stable. Landslide, mudslides, floods, and earthquakes are typical of the terrain. Forest fires by arson or failed energy grids are just bonuses. Palos Verdes should remind you that somewhere in California is on the move.
If you pause the video and look at 5:30, the dirt you see on the cliff is the most recent drop/landslide and is still weak. That's most likely where the next landslide or collapse is going to be and the main house is right on the edge of it. Even though this part of Northern California is not very seismically active, the San Gregorio Fault runs straight through Big Sur, which could wreck this area.
Cool story. Yet a simple glance at that coastline proves that wrong. Every single cliff shows evidence of erosion and collapse. Period. Those rocks in the sea. Was once the actually coastline at some point. So if you have had no issues, 40 years is a blink in its history. And if this was such a chance not to fail, why did they not reinstate the road down to it ?
Imagine having to deliver anything from above and to the house using a funicular in mist and rain?!
I commented when the video came out that you should review this lol this is my favorite channel
The grounds are indeed exceptional if you care for that theme, but why is japanese mixed with this barn house style?
A once in a lifetime opportunity here! It your life, speaking that goes off the cliff!😮
Mr. Haddad I enjoy ur channel immensely. For a mid century home it is pretty terrible object overall. If a video is out there, can you do Laudner/Frey/Wright house or more in generell an architectural, historicly important build. Would like to hear from ur point of view what to mind if you buy a mid century style home like Brad Pitt did in Los Felis or Adam Greens recently sold property at Mutliview Dr. 3542.
Anywqy thanks and keep it up
I love the 70s vibe.
13:40 It may be that the developer is using the infinity Koi's as a retaining wall. Im fairly certain making a staircase out of a retaining wall is not a good idea, but since they're so heavy individually perhaps they've been designed to still perform that function.
I really appreciate this channel. You're intelligent remarks have put into words many subconscious ideas ive had about modern architecture and styles. And you got jokes.
Great one Arvin - Happy Rosh Hashana!!!
Arvin just devalued the property by a couple of million $
This is a nice vacation get away but not to live there. I live above La Costa beach in Malibu. It has a beautiful view overlooking the ocean but driving up and down the hill, dealing with the constant cold gloomy fog gets really old. It’s October 2nd and it’s foggy right now. I’m ready to give it up for something like Brentwood or Woodland Hills.
Thank you for doing the review of the house I requested.
Years ago I heard a saying about houses on cliffs, If you can’t afford to lose it, don’t buy it.
Got a recommended video from 2 hours ago: Infamous Michael Jordan mansion SOLD by real Estate Report (Days on market: 4,592)
No idea how much for though.
It would have been helpful to know the height of the host to get a sense of the scale of things. Is he 6'5" or 6'2"? I noticed that his head was brushing against the doorframes in the casitas. Your insights were fascinating, Mr. Hadad. I would not have seen the problems with this site if you hadn't provided your commentary. I especially enjoyed your aesthetic judgment remarks. Thanks!
he says he is 6 foot 6 in almost every video he makes lol
1970s style isn't something ranged down to save money, it is a simplified clear coat design that highlighted the people and their good character who lived at that time to ease financial and social pressure. Same as why IKEA today exists because people cannot afford expensive and quality staff and not because it's as cool as most people think. It is not cool to spend your money on furniture that is of poor quality and lasts almost no time.❤ The property is an interesting one for sure, and honestly I cannot figure out why would someone invest in it when you see so many landslides occurring these days. And, these buildings are pretty cheaped out, to be honest not safe to live in them.
Leasing does seem the way to go. I can't imagine anyone taking the risk on a purchase. Is insurance even available?
Interesting footage of landslides in areas with no home built. If you are looking for good representation when homes slide down a hill side that gives way, look at Pacific Palisades just above PCH. There are several homes missing because of a leaking pipe caused the hillside to slide and take several homes with it. The homes were on Corona Del Mar overlooking PCH. There are many news articles about what happened to cause the slide. The area from the landslide is still visible on google maps even though the slide happened in 1989.
Cost to insure is just as much as the house 😂
This is a DeLorean DMC-12 type property not a Bugatti. Imagine coming home late at night and have to use that funicular 🤣🤣🤣😵
Hi Arvin, can you review the Max Azria estate in Holmby Hills? It’s rumored that JLO might buy it after nearly a decade on the market so it’d be interesting to hear your thoughts, thanks ❤
When I saw this I was like, "Man, I love this. How will Arvin poop on it?" And believe me, if I was looking at buying a house falling into the sea, I'd want the poop.
Thanks Arvin!
The FOG, this area get’s it practically everyday. Everyday.
Fun Drinking Game: Take a shot whenever he say's "Buggati" 😂
Wow, I wonder if the moving earth is in the disclosure?
I would think if there’s a mortgage involved, the bank is going to require a soil and hillside assessment before insuring that property.
