It's like how Game of Thrones had spears in the background of some scenes in the Battle of Blackwater Bay but no one in the whole battle ever used them.
Elven warriors in Two Towers: stern facial expressions, synchronized fighting choreography, all of the movements they do are quick, calculated and efficient. They feel like warriors who honed their craft for millenia Elven warriors of RoP: pudgy, out of shape Californian corporate office employees
Remember watching the behind the scenes for the casting of the Lord of the Rings. It seems pretty simple. Tall, slender people: elf. Shorter muscular people: dwarf. Shorter people who might be slightly overweight: hobbit. Other people: men. Didn't understand why the elven city all freaked out and went insane. Feel like that's more of a human response and less of an elven one.
Yeah, same thoughts exactly. If they wanted to display chaos and fear, they should put some civilians running around in utter terror - not confused elfs. Wtf this show

Amazon spent billions so we could watch a 13.55-minute video that is well-written, entertaining, and accurate. It has a strong beginning, middle, and end and tells an entire story. The video was viewed by 1.4 million people, more than the actual show. Much of the ad revenue went to a primary competitor, Google. LOL, you can not make this stuff up.
if go woke go broke actually worked, they would have by now, these people are so rich and corrupt, they use their inexhaustible wealth to spread their ideology, its not about making money for them, they dont need it. Not even a legion of trolls would be useful against walls, trolls are giants, they're supposed to be used like the greeks used elephants, heavy units that are the hammer for the orcs anvil

The Battle of Helm's Deep was one of the most intense, brilliantly staged, eye-popping, mind-blowing and emotionally resonant battle scenes I ever witnessed in theaters in my late teens back in the 2000's, and it still holds up incredibly well over two decades later!!!
The problem I have is that these random elves show up out of nowhere to help and are never seen again. In the book, it is the Rohorrim who get it done and that works. The movie has ROP levels of stupidity. (Don't get me started on the part where Aragorn goes off the cliff.)
@@marcpeterson1092oh damn. I’m a big lover of tolkiens literature too, and I’m aware of those changes in the movies from the books. And I couldn’t care less. All those added scenes have a reason to be there and the elves coming to Helms Deep make this scene even more epic. You sound like such a crybaby
And we're just going to gloss over the fact the motives are completely counter to Tolkien's writings. Tokien wrote that Sauron HIMSELF sacks Eregion, with HIS army, AFTER forging the One Ring. To take the lesser rings and kill Celebrimbor. There is no faction of grey-alignment sympathetic orcs rebelling against Sauron, or none of this nonsensical fan-fiction RoP's writers have crafted.
Fan fiction can be a wonderful addition to existing canonicity, when it's well thought out and posits a plausible series of events...so basically, anything but SLOP-sorry, ROP.
I thought that scene where the Dothraki all take off with their flaming swords, and you think they're gonna kick some ass, then they all just fizzle out in silence and dark, was one of the best and creepiest battle scenes I'd ever seen...or not seen. They turned out to be just minor fodder in the end.
I had managed to forget that painfully bad battle. With the army placed IN FRONT OF the wall. And charging the zombie army to be extinguished, until they re-appeared in King's Landing. With Bran doing absolutely nothing. In the novels it was clear that when Martin actually got around to it, Bran's power would be a severe threat to the zombies, perhaps slowing their offensive across the North over several months. In the TV show, I imagined he would be able to break the captains' hold on separate parts of their army, slowing them down in the battle. Giving the dragons the chance to sweep down and kill the captains. Thus forcing the Night King to control the entire army on his own, distracting him and making just enough zombies fall, so that he could be killed by Jon Snow in a final battle. Alas, it was not to be. Neither Bran nor the dragons nor Jon Snow were significant in stopping The Others.
@@chrisnewbury3793 It was probably the most retarded battle scene I've ever seen. All the decisions made by the defenders were moronic starting with assembling the defending army OUTSIDE the walls and ending with the defending army magically regenerating after the battle.
You can also see the major difference in costume and makeup quality. At Helms Deep, the armor and weapons don't look like cheap aluminum or foam, and the actors are dirty and bloody. They also have scraggly and oily hair from all the sweat and from most likely not bathing for several days. Amazon's abomination every actor looks like they're fresh from a shower all pretty and ready for the runway. Also the armor and weapons look like something you would order from wish. Unfortunately, a lot of "modern-day" movies and shows don't actually bother putting in the little details anymore and cheap out on props.
Helm's deep was filmed by doing months of night shoots in the rain. They would have been naturally dirty. The blood would be fake. When they finished, you can see photos of some of the people who made it and they looks super pale, just because they had seen the sun for so long.
I swear I heard that Viggo Mortisen literally found a puddle outside and rolled in the mud to prepare himself for a scene as Aragorn once. And if I do remember correctly, he wasn't told to do it either. He did it on his own intuition and commitment to the role he was playing
@mentalmandolorian5723 It wouldn't surprise me. He is one of the few actors that goes all the way to be immersed in whatever character he is playing. That's one of the reasons he is such a great actor.
Are you kidding me? Wish would send a sword with a scabbard that actually fits. gil-Galad's sword doesn't fit the scabbard. You can see it when he's riding the horse as he makes his entrance.
Another thing; in the Two Towers you care about the characters inside Helm's Deep. You know who they are, what they do, why they matter. You want them to hold their ground, you want them to all survive, you want the sun to rise and for Gandalf and the reinforcements to arrive. In Rings of Power I honestly hoped they just all died and that would be the end of the show

Adar left one orc to guard Galadriel. Just one! Isn't she reputed as one of the fiercest warriors and commanders the elves have? Someone who has killed legions of orcs? But Adar left Jim the Orc, who was two weeks away from retirement, to guard her by himself. Truly baffling.
They should have at least left two orcs guarding her. That way there could have been some dialoge: ORC #1: "What a terrible job! I want to fight in the battle!" ORC #2: "Don't complain rookie! I've been fighting for twenty years and I'm finally getting out in two weeks to go back to my loving family." SUDDENLY, ORC #2 IS IMPALED FROM THE BACK, AND BLOOD BEGINS GUSHING OUT OF HIS MOUTH
It really is an AI trying to recreate the battle metaphorically. It actually looks right, if you took any 3 seconds without context - but there's so much wrong with it logically when you look too hard.

Every time someone mentions this new LOTR show, I cannot but think how lucky all of us Tolkien's fans were to get the original trilogy. It could have easily been bad but we got probably the best possible version imaginable. We should be thankful to Peter Jackson and the entire crew and cast for their achievement and celebrate it every opportunity we have. Time for another re-watch 😊
I mean, I can't really fault them. Amazon shows up and says they want to make a billion dollar franchise on par with the Peter Jackson films. It sounds like it can't lose. They got conned. I'd say they are victims, but they're probably watching this show on a superyacht.

@@marcoonlinetv7769 yeah, I thought Elrond married Galadriel‘s daughter! there’s never been any romantic relationship between those two. God, rings of power must suck far worse than even I thought.
The show already screwed up their relationship in Season 1 by making them "friends". Galadriel is more like a mentor to Elrond, not a "friend". She's far older and wiser than he is, arguably closer to that of "Cirdan". In addition to Cirdan, she should be a person he goes to looking for advise, instead he goes to Cirdan to seek advice BECAUSE of her actions, because this show has her written so stupidly. I'm almost certain (like 99%) that they are going to introduce Celebrian in a later season (if they get beyond Season 3) and simply argue "nobody ever mentioned her, even though everybody knows Galadriel has a daughter already". One slim possibility is that Celebrian appears at the end of this season, because when the dwarves arrive to help evacuate the survivors of Eregion and fight off Sauron's forces, in the lore they bring soldiers from Lorien with them. The only problem is that Lorien has NEVER been mentioned in the show even once yet. I can see them doing this, while having Celebrian (who should be in Lorien at this time... with Galadriel...) leading the forces, cuz strong woman. Then she makes a sly remark to Elrond about her having to rescue him or something, because of course.

The battle of the two towers was supposedly based off of the 1683 siege of Vienna. In the real world the ottoman empire tried to destroy the walls using explosives and underground saphers. After two months of holding out the winged hussars of Poland and other allies charged the ottomans at the very last minute made them route. Which makes since considering tolken likely interacted with a large number of historians. It was an amazing battle and it was a great one to choose for a fantasy setting.
He was an historian and being one and a long time member of his college he would have known many different specialists of different periods. But the siege of Vienna in 1683 is the kind of event that any serious person in a history department at Oxbridge in the 20th C would would have had knowledge of, particularly as it was seen then as a pivotal turning point in European history.
Battle of Minas Tirith is based on that, not Helm's Deep I think. Minas Morgul was Constantinople, then got lost to the Turks, then "defiled", the second bastion was Vienna, which is Minas Tirith and cavalry arrives there both in history and the books. In the book cavalry doesn't show up at Helm's Deep but it is infantry led by Erkenbrand.
Amazing to think that single charge by maybe a few hundred men probably saved the entirety of western civilisation from falling to the darkness of Islam. Well, for 400 years at least..

This series is a missed opportunity. Sauron was supposed to be a pseudo Promethean figure generating religious engineering in Harad and Rhûn with the metallurgical revolution he made in the east and south. He could be like Mephistopheles from Goethe's Faust or Azazel from the book of Enoch. Galadriel was supposed to be a sage and a political opponent of Annatar's reformist ideas. She could be like a philosopher-queen. She used arguments and debates to fight Sauron in Eregion. She was such a fierce enemy that Annatar instigate Celebrimbor and the Jewelers to stage a coup d'etat on Galadriel and Celeborn. Númenor is a moral and theological story about life vs death vs immortality vs human nature. Harad and Rhûn were inspired by Ancient Aethiopia and Asia.
The missed opportunity was already in the premise of the show. Nobody cares about the forging of the rings. Its a footnote. Backstory. Make the show about Numenor. That mightve been interesting.
@@TheSuperappelflap One thing that disappointed me, since the end of Season 1 with the Forge of the 3 elven rings, and now in the creation of the 7 rings of the children of Aulë: it lacks a visual impact and subtlety that brings emotion. Objects, artifacts and creations, with the "hands" of Ilúvatar's children and angels, have a spiritual aspect that influence destinies in Arda. They are true artifacts, impossible to replicate: the Silmarils; the One Ring; Narsil; Sting; the Rings of Power. The forge scenes do not have The Impact of a "unspoken importance" - it is more a sentiment than being told by the characters that these Rings will shape and impact 2 entire eras of Arda. In the series, the Forge is something generic, much more is TALKED than SHOWN - Show, Don't Tell. I remember the forge scene of Narsil "transforming" into Anduril in The Return of The King - a sword shown in a few minutes will change the destiny of all humanity. Rings of Power, with a 1 billion budget, with more than 15 hours of viewing, didn't bring that!

Have you seen the extended editions? Boromir's behaviour makes much more sense when you have the extra info and scenes. Tbh, the extended editions are superior to the theatrical releases imo.
One thing Peter Jackson added is how Aragon doubts himself in the beginning, but one thing this creates room for is how it is Boromir telling him he would have followed him to the end, as his captain and King, that inspires Aragon and gives him confidence to become King. It makes Boromir's death even more meaningful.
I bet that's an experience mirrored by millions of kids who watched the films growing up. I was one too. Boromir becomes one of the best characters that you're sad you could only see for a single film. You just don't realize that when you're 12.
Another thing that was sadly glossed over in the theatrical release but expanded upon in the extended edition is that for all the shit Faramir gets, he succeeds where Boromir failed by resisting the temptation of the Ring through his own willpower.
This battle probably was not even in the books. They have been making up most of the stuff around the making of the rings. There isn't really much at all written on this to begin with.
I also seem to remember in the first season, Adar and the orcs had to dig miles of tunnels to travel bc they couldn't stand sunlight. Galadriel even used it to torture Adar with.. Now I guess they don't mind.

I think one of my biggest gripes about this is the elves just don't look like elves. The armor the movements nothing is elegant or smooth or even competent. There just regular humans in a random town. The original trilogy did this perfectly.

@@uvicjames exactly from what I've been seeing in media after the witcher/dragon age. The elves there it makes sense why there are more to be blunt, human. Which is a cool concept but after that everyone in the media just went with that concept for all elves in all mediums.
The cavalry charge makes no sense. The horsemen to the far flanks won't see Galadriel or Elrond stopping in time and should charge into the enemy, and the ones in the very back should crash into the people in front as it is a cavalry CHARGE and not a gallop. Also the orcs have a huge amount of non-spear weapons. Spears are a very powerful weapon and cost less metal than swords or axes. They are also effective against cavalry and other weapons.
It's just dumb bud. Furthermore, if Elrond is behind the orcs he should be hitting their supplies. Unless the orcs were setup for a pincer, which makes no sense like everything else in RoP. Goes back to Drinkers point that the battlefield makes no sense.
Yep as you said the ones at the back have to slow down first, if the ones in front slow even a tiny bit. All your horses and riders are going to be badly hurt. They would need a lot of forewarning to stop a full on cavalry charge, as all the riders at the back won't hear any orders over all those the thundering hooves. Literally the entire front of a formation stopping or slowing could break hundreds of horses ankles. They can't stop on a dime like that, that's one way to give your horses shattered legs and have to be put down for their own benefit. It's another reason why cavalry charges are more often than not a last resort as it's all or nothing attack. Infantry would have plenty of time to bring out pikes and spears to halt/slow the charge and once you stop the charge... cavalry gets decimated. Once you start charging, you have no choice but to plough through which even if successful results in heavy losses. It's why in later ages cavalry stopped doing headlong charges unless the infantry were caught out of formation or position. Cavalry archers were more useful, which honestly you would think the elves would have at this point, as they were highly effective at being in smaller trained groups and wheeling around in front of an enemy battle line, firing arrows and taunting the enemy to chase them.
@@MajorSmurf Yes, agree completely. All they had to do was watch a tour de France crash and they'd get the point. Furthermore, these Elves are thousands of years old, having survived endless battles against Morgoth and his legions. You would have assumed that they would have mastered combat by now.
@@MajorSmurf The whole point of a cavalry charge is to CRASH into the enemy and BREAK them in two. It happens when you ride as fast as you can while still keeping a formation and ride THROUGH the whole army, not even using your weapons as much as just crushing your enemies against your horses and themselves. The spears and lances might get a few kills too, but only for the folks on the very tip of the formation. And you have to ride through the whole opposing formation to not get stuck and ripped down from your saddle and beaten to death with your gender study diploma.

Eregion is thousands of years before those elves and at least a thousand years after the first age -- none of the Eregion elves fight or see conflict. They are ritual guards of a jewelry city. You are also watching the events that lead to societies and groups forming those elves. The host the Elrond arrives with become scattered in the river bed fighting, immediately spreading out to fight 10 to 1 as the horde is able to assault a large area against the now exposed wall. This is that first battle! Elrond was a baby when Morgoth was defeated -- the black years where the elves learn how to fight against Sauron's forces are later.
@@anhi399 I get that story angle, but where is the effort from the show to even hint at that ? They have infinite ways to show either unpreparedness, or limited skills ... we never get to see how many soldiers defend Eregion beyond the 15 people recycled and reused all the time... It was incredibly bad directing.

Leaving a passable filed to cross. Not meters of mud and silt that would swallow up orcs and horses and large siege contraptions. They are insulting us.
A billion dollars a season eh? It looks like a classic Doctor Who / Blake’s 7 quarry filming session with LARP armour. Do the guys underneath the Amazon bosses all suddenly have Ferraris, motorboats and holiday homes in Sochi?
The lady with arrows in her back - bodies... don't work like that. She clearly has damaged or shattered shoulder blade by arrows in places that would restrict her arm movement. Shooting a bow is challenging in healthy body. With blood loss, pieces of wood that penetrate your body and pin the muscles in place shooting accurate shot... No. Just no.
Dude this is my biggest medieval/fantasy pet peeve ever. The fact that archery is given a 'dex' role when it should be a strength one. The power of arrow shots is always basically just treated like a dart or similar. Not the fucking thunderbolt of power behind a bow with a high draw. In fantasy, Arrows should be hitting with terrain changing power. They should be like miniature cannon hits. Arrows are not gentle little piercing bolts. They never show the kind of power they have.
It's a theatrical device called 'suspension of disbelief'. In the case of a well-developed character with whom the audience has an emotional investment, such as Boromir, it is always excusable. Especially given his considerable size, strength and wild determination to save the Hobbits. In the case of 'Asian Lady Elf 27' it is actually so inexcusable and overdone, it becomes laughable. Lol
@@JayFulcanelli--111 I get the idea. But throwing blows with sword is a different thing than shooting accurately with a bow. I can suspend a disbelief when someone wounded throws something or shoots the gun, but archery is a lot to ask for :D and you're right about Boromir it had meaning for the story, and his established character. This lady it's just a plot device, because story needed it.
@giantent763 It's like they purposely ignore the spirituality and sense of the divine. I haven't watched it, and refuse to, but just watching these human-like elves, I do not get a sense that they have seen the Valar or acknowledge "The One." I know they have no rights to The Silmarillion, but even Peter Jackson was able to make them otherworldly, shown by a glow that seems to come from within.
Why does the elf cavalry look like it's a 2-D cartoon?! And why are all the horses white? Elves aren't dumb enough to breed warhorses purely for color. Thirdly, in Amazon's stupid DEI world, isn't a white cavalry kinda...racist?
I stand by the notion that somebody on the staff has their own agenda and it's based around their fetish for horses... A compilation from the episodes so far would make Mr. Hands bust.
I loved how that nameless, asian elf, Boromir flashbak lady all of a sudden gets hit by 5 arrows from 5 difrent directions basicly at the same time. I guess orc archers (wich i dont know what they are even doing in the mid of open battle) from all over only saw her at the same time and all hit their shots ignoring any other way more importnant elves around her. Amazing writing. Oh and Don Lemon jumping on troll making him fall couse of it is prefect. Troll that throws horses and breaks walls just falls to ground from a single elf jumping on his shoulders. Also Gil Ghalad stabing troll was cut out from some other scene of him stabing something else 'couse it happens off screen... also, how are orcs fighting during the day? My god so fkn bad.
This just goes to show how racist orcs are to Asians. And tbf Legolas also killed a troll all by himself, and if anything those 2nd age elves are probably even more badass than he was.
Yea, apparently Legolas could have just jump-kicked the Cave Troll to make it stumble, eh? Not any of the dexterous dodging and then hopping on top of him because he weighs effectively nothing compared to the troll, right? Its incredible how they go so much wrong.
My biggest peeve with Rings of power is that it Does not look like a FANTASY, The story line is all over the place with very modern Character Flaws. And the music is SHIT.
"music is SHIT"? You very clearly never watched the show, or must be deaf. Many things can be said about the show, but the music being shit isn't one of them. But people will desperately say anything to appear edgy and farm some likes.
THIS! I'm surprised with how few people are talking about the soundtrack. It is complete garbage. One of the reasons LotR was so great was because of the score. 700m budget and they couldn't produce 1-2 iconic pieces?!

Even better: part of the city is under the mountain, so why don't hit there? That would cause a lot of damage...

I mean, that's just a given at this point.

Fan fiction can be a wonderful addition to existing canonicity, when it's well thought out and posits a plausible series of events...so basically, anything but SLOP-sorry, ROP.
There is one thing that could change everything, remember Shadow of Mordor, this should be the way
At least GOT had the dignity to hide the bad choreography in darkness
💀 if only Star Wars too had that luxury
So does this show. It's well dark
@@chrisnewbury3793
It was probably the most retarded battle scene I've ever seen.

Yeah well *this* battle was based on the historical battle of Hollywood versus the Homeless, where tragically, both sides lost.
Battle of Minas Tirith is based on that, not Helm's Deep I think. Minas Morgul was Constantinople, then got lost to the Turks, then "defiled", the second bastion was Vienna, which is Minas Tirith and cavalry arrives there both in history and the books.

The description of Boromir's death brought tears to my eyes. Well done
As a kid I hated Boromir for falling to the Ring like a common thug, like Gollum and breaking his vow to the Fellowship
As an adult I hated myself for thinking that cause the Ring turns the terrible, like Gollum but even a virtuous man like Boromir fell pray to it...almost and he redeemed himself like a true Son of Gondor, a hero for the Little Folk, giving his life for the Fellowship
Have you seen the extended editions? Boromir's behaviour makes much more sense when you have the extra info and scenes.
Tbh, the extended editions are superior to the theatrical releases imo.
@@Valen-mh9fh The one true way to enjoy the movies is with the Extended versions. AS a kid I was stupid. As an Adult I know the way
One thing Peter Jackson added is how Aragon doubts himself in the beginning, but one thing this creates room for is how it is Boromir telling him he would have followed him to the end, as his captain and King, that inspires Aragon and gives him confidence to become King.

Reminds me of playing Age of Empires and you can just hit the stop command to abruptly stop all of your units.

At least, Game of Thrones was tremendously amazing at Season 1 and Season 2, with few others good seasons, which represent years of nice discussion and unforgetable moment. Ring of power discussion is really not the same, I remember Peter Dinklage seeking a serious role instead of absurd role, because he is a dwarf, Tyrion was the result of that desire and he was clever and funny, hard to do, and also how they could possibly killed Ned the main character. The other thing that really bugs me is that in the original trilogy the elves are extremely synced up, organized, and straight up graceful whenever you see them in combat, particularly in the first movie with The Last Alliance in Mordor.
In this dumpster fire though they are the complete opposite of that and watching them fight feels like watching a clip of me in middle school swinging around a training sword.
yeah, not even the excuse that they have not reached that level yet, slowly getting better or something, by this point they should be a well oiled machined or at least a machine
You could say the same about Boromirs arrows too. . . .
It's a theatrical device called 'suspension of disbelief'. In the case of a well-developed character with whom the audience has an emotional investment, such as Boromir, it is always excusable. lmao LOTR isnt for you right-wing snowflakes. You guys lose in the movies, just saying.
The elvish plastic surgeons did a great job on Elrond between ROP and LOTR.
the same guys got rid of the asian and black elves :)
@@Gotten1888 That happened when they elected Trump elf as king.
Hands bust.
The prussians bred cavalry to be black, but that was mostly done by nobility.
You got the point. The elves are the bad boys (and gals).
Well there was a scene where a numenorian horse kicked and killed a poor orc family man...that was pretty brutal white supremacy from that horse
indeed, why there is no inclusivity for the horses??
Thank you for mustering the strength to watch it and explain. I couldn't watch the second season after I watched the first.
Its incredible how they go so much wrong.
yeah. That would be like being stabbed with a 2 inch dagger. Potentially deadly but not imminent death.
diversity power!!!! the true heroes of Rings Of Woke
it's so true. Insanely stupid.
My biggest peeve with Rings of power is that it Does not look like a FANTASY, The story line is all over the place with very modern Character Flaws. And the music is SHIT.
That's the thing when someone claims to make something "diverse" and for the "modern audience", it just ends feeling like modern USA... And lame
Crap now that you say it, there is no iconic music either than kinda the main theme.
@@a_kazakis The main theme, Where Shadows Lie, Galadriel, Khazad-dûm, Valinor, This Wandering Day, ... choose one.
Additional point: Jackson's armor, on both sides, looks great. ROP's armor looks like the cheap ill-fitting plastic stuff it is.
This looks more like that D&D movie (not the new one, the old one with Jeremy Irons)
to much money went ot the diverse cast
To this day, every few months I will watch all 3 lord of the rings movies. I've seen these movies....my god idk a couple hundred times each. But every time I watch one them I enjoy myself. Those movies are timeless to me.
