That was hilarious, James is such a diamond. Love the ZX-7R , i crashed mine into a ditch avoiding a deer on the way down to WSB 98 at Philip Island. Shoulder fucked , bike with tent and luggage landed on top of me, managed to get to the campsite, met an F1 mechanic who did top job of fixing it the best he could. Camped for 4 days, got wasted, smashed the painkillers, and then rode home on it the pissing rain back to Sydney, for sugery, physio and 6 months off work...... Happy New Year to all the 44 Teethers

My first bike was a 99 sv650s that had been dynojetted but then had the original can refitted.
I finally managed to get an aftermarket can from ART when they went bankrupt for an almost giveaway price and this was a short can.
The bike ran SO much better!!! No more flat spot in the mid range and so much more freer revving and more power. LOUD AS HELL too 🤣 used to set car alarms off.

ZX-7Rs are heavy but they're crash worthy and durable.
If seen GSXRs sent to the paddock from hitting a pothole and bending the wheel rims.
But you can get that 7R down to 440 lbs fairly easily and cheaply.
Remove EVERYTHING that isn't necessary including the rear sub-sub frame under the passenger seat, speedometer, and rear footpegs etc.
The stock exhaust weighs 27 lbs btw!
I replaces mine with a 5.25 lb Muzzy titanium unit immediately dropping 22 lbs!

I think whats worth remembering about these bikes is that the weight is also what almost makes them so confidence assuring - you feel like have some sort of bike under you and i think the extra weight is also part of the secret of how good the front end feels when your pushing on into the corners.

I had a ZX7R for 5 years that I heavily modified over the years. The standard headers rot but are really good. Pretty much every aftermarket headers introduce that big flatspot you are seeing. I had Micron ones which were not too bad. Akrapovic supposed to be good too. I saw 119bhp at rear wheel in the end. 4 degree ignition advancer is a good mod for crispness.

@@TheWhisky81 I don't I'm afraid - I sold it in 2013 as had an FI 750 SRAD and a Ducati 996S at the same time and the carbs (pilot jets blocking) were driving me mad on the 7R! You can also get the carbs to be more reliable and less flatspotty/rich/lean areas if you blank of the Klean air injection with plates. The presence of that system knackers the ability to jet them properly with consistency. Old vid on my channel, but she sounded ace and pulled very cleanly after HM racing set up th-cam.com/video/m3I5cw0do3U/w-d-xo.html
