Easy weight saving - switch to a twin line set-up to the master cylinder for front brakes - on the ZX7R the bracket and splitter for the single line where it splits to twin lines to each caliper is made of pig iron and weighs about 1kg! 10 years ago when I did this, Goodrich kit was the best, but literally a twin line easy swap and pull off the big splitter unit.

I love this for two reasons. One as I purchased a brand new one of these after being fortunate to watch live at Phillip Island Anthony Gobert (the go show) completely obliterate WSB in his first round. I was also racing that day in the Australian 250 production series in which Anthony had previously been Aus Champ and I had raced against him so apart from watching this from the internal pits I then bought one new (same bike as I had his). Secondly, I kept one of the 2 Suzuki RGV-250’s I raced in the 90’s and it hasn’t run in 25 years, I’ve always been planning on getting it running again as everything was drained for storage. So thank you for the inspiration and memories. 👍😎🇦🇺

Love these zx-7's! No more stable a bike and the induction sound from the twin ram air scoops is mesmerizing. I've owned 3 and sold the last one at 75,000 miles and it still pulled (pretty) hard.

When I turned 21 I bought a ZX7R!, and after a year on the road I made the decision to race it. I got Ohlins fork springs fitted to the standard forks with a new Harris yokes for steeper angle. This made it turn in so much quicker!
The engine was fitted with a 780cc big bore kit, race cams and got the ports gas flowed. Strapped a full race Hindle exhaust system on. Race hangers, Full race fairings and pretty much took off all anything that was not needed.
Raced with NGRRC for a couple of years. GOT A WIN!!
2.5sec lead in an open class with 30 riders which were a mixture of 1000cc machines to 250cc strokers 😍. The 7R was by far the best bike I’ve ever owned. There’s more to it then just figures. It’s how the bike makes you feel.
The big bore kit got mine from 109bhp to 138bhp on the dyno back in 2002 🤣 everyone was saying I was a crap racer because I had to get a big bore kit fitted to perform but how else do you keep up with the 1000cc machines down the straights on a 750??
Great video 👍🏼 keep up the great work and look forward to your future plans with the BBB 😎

In the words of 44Teeth “bloody brilliant” (other words are available). I’m getting the sense that not only has the love for the Green Beast blossomed beyond the initial romance of the BBB but James is really getting into this too with greater enthusiasm (definitely not in a rush to get it out of his workshop). Having now seen the true state of that shock and linkage you must have a major sense of relief that you escaped upright on the circuit session against the SRAD - talking of which, I think that dodgy relationship is definitely on the rocks and no amount of relationship guidance is going to help Al.
Big thanks again Chris and James for this - hopefully you will get a major sponsorship deal from Willy Wonka😎
Ps: please, please, please - tidy up that swing arm which currently resembles the surface of the moon!

Whilst you have the swingarm out to change the pivot bearings, you could get it blasted & powder coated, just an idea, but this is best done immediately before a bearing change so you dont have a problem with blast medium in the new bearings!

  • @acepantstibs1587

I've done pretty much the same set of work lately on my 7r. Nissin 4 pots + RCS +EBC discs, shock linkage bearings/sleeves/seals, the whole lot, swingarm spindle and bearings etc... Maxton shock at the rear and cartridges in the forks... un-be-fsking-lievable difference. It is sickening how much better the bike is. Dymags waiting on the shelf as need to machine to accommodate speedo drive on the front.
Also made up some tooling to remove and press in the 'un-replacable' needle jets in the carbs as the needles wear the holes oval. Looks like that bike may have less miles though so maybe not an issue (under 30k seems ok) the 'float bowl mod' to balance float bowl pressure with the airbox, resetting float heights etc..., but the best bang for buck is the factory pro 4 degree ignition advancer. Makes a real difference, and even Perkins could fit it I reckon.
FYI the conventional wisdom seems to be, just get an OEM air filter - sack off the K&N. Also coil sticks probably might have cost less than those dyna coils.

Check the rear break master cylinder is not blocked too, thought I had a seized calliper on my old Kawi (rear brake system is the same on all Kawis for many years). I fixed it all, new disc, rebuilt the calliper and master cylinder, it was fine for a bit then it went again, had to do it all again and get a replacement master cylinder as could not get the black plastic pipe off to try and fix it.

In my experience the OEM paper filters give the best results, because they make the mixture the correct richness as that's what the carbs are designed for.
...Try a stock paper filter before spending money on a K&N. If you do you use a K&N or similar then richen the mixture somehow.

Awesome video (as always). If weight saving is the plan you should definitely take a look at Lithium batteries, we've done a video on our range of Skyrich batteries and the weight saving is staggering when compared to a lead-acid battery, a true saving to be had. Let us know if you'd like one :)
