    List of worthwhile mods to the MV. Microtech ECU, not cheap, but transforms the bike with no on-off throttle and cooler running and circa 15hp more. De-cat, again for cooler running. Water pumper impeller upgrade, standard doesn’t flow enough. Also worth talking to Chris Wells at X-Bikes.

  • @Nicko_1
    @Nicko_1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I almost spat out my food when the mechanic said “to use waterless coolant, cos it boils at 180 degrees, cos the bike runs hot”. 1. Water has one of the highest specific heat capacities on earth. So no water means you won’t be able to remove as much heat from the engine. 2. If your coolant is boiling, you probably have a pressure issue with the cooling system, cos pressure increases the boiling point of water

  • @29394D97
    @29394D97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Please, for the love of bikes. DO NOT put waterless coolant in anything other than a bin. Yes, the boiling point is higher BUT the heat transfer is shit. Your bike will run hotter with waterless coolant and if it developes a leak, it has the chance to ignite as waterless coolant is flammable.

    I’m starting to realise that owning a bike can’t be done on a budget. I’m in my second year riding, I’ve paid for a CBT, purchased riding gear/leathers, bought a Yamaha YZF 125 as my first bike, got stung heavily on insurance. I’ve now moved onto a Yamaha R6, another heavy sting on the insurance. The final straw has now been bumping up security, owning a motorcycle isn’t cheap. My insurance alone over two years would have been able to pay for the MV Agusta alone. My point is I wouldn’t change it for the world, apart from the thieving wankers who live amongst us.

    I had a 2003 999s and I loved it. Apart from it being uglier than any Ducati made from the 90's onwards, it sounds fantastic, has a nice smooth rev curve and is very nice to ride. I also think the tank is the nicest looking of any Ducati. And the looks grow on you... seeing one in a video or photograph is not the same as in person. I sold mine because I didn't think it would hold its value like the other classic 916, 996 and 998 shapes. I got very good money for her. How right I was to sell!

    I have the 996r and the f4 , the f4 eats the Ducati in a straight line but when ever I go out I always take the 996 because people that don’t even know bikes drool over it but no one pays the least amount of attention to the f4 except the occasional wow 4 pipes .

  • @presstodelete1165
    @presstodelete1165 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The F4 is a bored out 750cc engine, many think they went about 80cc over the max. Perhaps thats why Goggi dropped back to a liter engine for the Morton design second generation F4.

    The mech has some ideas that make sense but the whole left hand thread thing perplexes me because I own one and my wheel nut tightens, not loosens. As for "wetting the bed" the oil thing is big, use a paddock stand to prevent the kickstand from causing an oil leak. Then, the coolant, just dont ride in traffic. Its really NOT designed to go slow no matter what. I even liked to push the speed limit in the paddock to coast in and shut it off ASAP and pop a faring off.

    I am a fan of Italian bikes - I owned a Duc 998 and a 1098s. The 998 is the bike I (still) really love but at some point, I wanted a bike with a little more punch so I bought the 1098s. While the engine of the 1098 is awesome I was never really satisfied with the whole handling of the bike, even after upgrading the Ölins suspension and replacing the springs exactly to my weight I wasn't happy with it. So I had the pleasure of test driving a MV Agusta. Even though I am not a huge fan of 4-bangers I must admit the MV engine develops it's power quite nicely. The problem I had with the MV is that is kind of drives like a 998 but with the difference that it always returns the feeling that you are too fast, then you turn into a corner and you find out that you are way too slow. After a while, you ignore the feeling willingly. IMO that is not a good thing coz all the MV riders I know at some point run out of road. Maybe that is something that can be overcome with a different setup but for me it was not really convincing. The 999 on the other hand is not exactly a beauty but it performs very very well and what I really love is that it gives you a very wide range how to set it up. You can set it up to drive like a pice of scrap metal that you need to force into a corner or you can give it a setup where it is super agile almost like a 1098 but it always returns an excellent feedback. IMO the 999 is the perfect bike for the race track. Just my opinion.

    Now you're really making me wonder how much power my 999R used to have? It would rip out of the hole leaving the Japanese bikes in the dust but that was when new, lol. I get your pain watching this.
