    I’m a 68 yr. old female. 5 ft. tall. This past February I weighed 182 lbs. That’s a lot on a 5 ft. frame. I started walking, every day. Increased my time and steps as I progressed. Now I walk about 40 to 60 minutes daily. Steps range from 8,000 to 11,000 daily. Last weekend I ran my first 5K in 4 years. I feel so much better. A1

    Instead of 10,000 steps of "brisk walk" all at once, I have observed splitting workloads as follows works much better!
    1) 5000 steps "brisk walk" empty stomach morning
    2) 15min of deep stretching empty stomach morning
    4) 15min of hot yoga
    5) 15 min of resistance training morning
    6) 2500 steps of "leisure walking" evening (not on empty stomach)
    7) Not eating anything after 7.30PM
    8) 1 relaxing deep full body massage once a week

    • @sgtaneja
      @sgtaneja ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @usha murali It helps in the maintenance of metabolism. Weight loss is a far more complex monster that requires specific diet regimens and the addressing of other health issues that may be an obstacle to weight loss. I don't prefer to use the term "weight loss". I prefer to use the term "ideal body composition".

    Voice of reason, loud and clear. I can attest to benefits of walking since I retired 10 years ago. I walk everyday at least 30 minutes, rain or sunshine is no excuse not to go out and walk. Result, at 70 my BMI is 21.8 while when I retired at 60 it was 21.5.

      And you eat the same diet? Of course not. Walking 30 minutes a day burns about 100 extra cals. That's 2 Oreo cookies. Or 2 tablespoons of sugar or creamer in coffee.

    I am a 67 year old power lifter and fitness trainer. I walk in the gym for one hour and I also lift weights. My Power Lifter gym have been existence for 70 years and is now closed, Young people are no longer strong for power lifter. Many people are lazy and sit all day at work and also at home, and also a lot of children are fat their eats too much sugar and trans fat. In the gym I see a lot of people training hard and there are overweight anyway, nutrition is also important. Walking is healthy but if someone is walking and you eat too much sugar process food junk food and trans fat then walking is a waste of time.

    Dr. Hansaji, I just came across your video by chance and watched it out of curiosity. I liked your advice about the health benefits of walking. I’ve always known that walking is good for you but I lack motivation and always have excuses; it’s either too hot or too cold, too windy, gym too boring, etc. . . The hardest thing is just getting out the door. I am 70 years old, recently diagnosed with diabetes (no meds yet), and obese. The warning signs are there and I know I’m heading for trouble if I don’t make any changes; I already lost my husband and a dear friend from complications of diabetes. 😢 Thank you for the video.

      Start walking at home playing some good music of your choice in the background. I started doing that when my weight was 110 kg and now after continuing walking for the past 9 years, I have lost 32 kg. Have also started going out for walks now for the past 5 years. Earlier I walked 5 km a day, now 8.5 km a day in just 1:30 minutes. My sugar is under control, my health is great. So is my weight. Most of the body pains have gone without medication. My eyes have also improved. I am 64 now. I am on vegetarian diet and consume good amount of water daily. I also meditate in the afternoon and take a nap.

    I have been a regular walker for many years now. But since August I am walking 10000 steps on an average. Nearly 7.5 k close to 300 cal. There are many benefits for walking but weight-loss is not one of them. To lose a kilo one needs to work up to 8000 calories. I enjoy my morning walk outdoors, it is meditation. 🙏

    Thanks for the lovely explanation given on walking and its benefits . I am a 70 year old female and have been walking since the past many years. But it has done nothing to reduce the flab on my belly. Any other exercise isn't suitable for my problem.
