I modded my Jaguar to prevent a positive center AC adapter blowing up U38. I know that the game consoles from the early 90s featured negative center DC jacks. Even though I can mod the system to reverse the jack's polarity, a rectifier can be used to allow usage of either polarity...
I literally just fried mine this morning going through all my extra old console stuff and didn't pay attention to the adapter when I plugged it in. Needless to say I'll be ordering the U38 IC and maybe the reg1 in an attempt to fix this myself. Thanks for posting up this video, very helpful man.
Thanks for the video it helped me fix mine. Some of the legs on the u38 joined together but they was the ones that was on the same trace so it worked out good. After I tested the power I decided to tackle the reg 1 for my sound and it was easier than the other chip maybe because I had 1 under my belt. Had to order a solder vac to remove the solder from the joints. also replaced the cap by the u38 it had a little dome to it so I figured since I had it go ahead and replace it as well. My u38 and reg 1 chips looked fine no evidence that they was no good. So Just order the chips and give it a shot even if it don't look like it needs them. Console 5 is where I ordered my chip set for the Jaguar, Master System and Sega CD which fixed all 3 now I have to do my Game Gear next. Great company arrived fast and I payed the extra $1 to get it shipped in a box so there was no problems.
I have a jaguar with a cd since i purchased it since 1995 for $149.99 til this day i still have it with the controller except the box. TH-cam teachers alot and learn alot
I just picked up a Jag w/ games from a local thrift shop for cheapies. Running into a similar issue, I'm going to try opening it up to see what the damage is. The console powers on but I get nothing but a green/black screen. Going to try to replace the caps and get back to you. :) Thank you for the informational vid!
my Jaguar quit working several years ago that i've had since I bought it on clearance from Electronics Boutique, I think it may have slipped off the bed one too many times I havent taken it apart lately to really study the board on it to see what might be wrong.
Thanks for the video I had 3 consoles that was broke a sega master system, sega cd, and the jaguar. I used console5 as well ordered all the parts for like $10 to fix them well I haven't tackled the jag yet saved it for last seeing that it more more difficult. But fixed the other 2 so now its time to try this one either way I fixed 2 so thats worth the $10 regardless if I get this one going. Thanks for showing which chips to order.
You should use a 10-bit linear interpolation current steering digital to analog converter (DAC) and a Gilbert cell mixer to generate an RF amplitude modulated signal directly. The linear interpolation increases the attenuation of the DAC's image components.
n00b question --- If I use an AC adapter that has a much higher amperage output than the recommended 1.2 A, will the Jaguar fry or simply only pull what amperage it needs?
Hi I just got my first Jaguar home today. And I have no games yet to try it. But does the system boot up without a game cartridge? I cant even get the LED to light up when pushing the power button.
Hey i just picked up a Jaguar myself and i think it has this problem. Is there any good soldering videos i should watch? Can you PM me with tips? I've never soldered anything before and i have a bunch of questions. Thanks!
Atair Jaguar power supply question.? I just recently bought a Atari jaguar on ebay, but it was sold as is because there was now cords that came with it, i was planing to buy a official power supply but i want to test it with one i already have i just want to know if its safe to just test the atria jaguar with the power supply i have. this is the specs for the adapter i have IMPUT 120VAC 60Hz 21w OUTPUT 9VDC 1200mA and i think the polarity (+)---(@)--(-)
hello mister , can you help me please my atari jaguar is a black screen ! no picture . but my board is very good and fine ( 78l05 and mc34163 are good ) but my video game don't work ( black screen ) thank in advance henri
I used a Sega Genesis power adapter and fried my Jaguar. It sounded like a firecracker went off in the system, scared the shit out of my house cat which was lying next to the console he jumped like 5 feet in the air when it blew up. The console even started to smoke. Hope I can repair it.
I have three Jaguars. I tried using different plugs and none of the 3 will light up. I dont have a game to further test. The light should still come on without a game right?

I'm glad you got it working! Console5 definitely rocks though. I've always had great service, even when something came damaged.

Would the U15 IC be missing from every Jaguar system with a compactor missing as well?
Thanks for the upload this most likely will fix mine
Glad I could help!

I hope so man. I took a vid of it last night and didn't notice any blown caps. -
do you need the official plug or can you use a universal that has the same voltage? will it fry the thing?

Do you have a game to test with the system? It will not turn on unless the game is inserted, the pins are clean, and it's making a good connection.

Thanks for the video. Quick question though. Do I need to put a game to get the Atari Jaguar to turn on?
Yes, it won't turn on without a game.
Awesome. Now I got to go out and buy one lol.
I picked mine up at goodwill for $10.
I have three Jaguars. I tried using different plugs and none of the 3 will light up. I dont have a game to further test. The light should still come on without a game right?
Nope, it does not. Same with the atari lynx. For some weird reason both of those consoles will not work without a game in it.
***** Weird. Thats good news though I thought I had 3 dead consoles. Thanks
***** Oooooh. That might be the issue with the one I got. Owner said it worked but it didn't come with a game.
Looking inside my Jaguar, this is definitely what's wrong with it. I have no clue how to sodder or unsodder anything, though...
yo this video was really cool
Thanks!
Install a diode on the center pin so you cant blow the unit.
same thing happed to a 7800 i got
Thank you.
cool vid
