The red Jaguar screen is a dirty or corroded cartridge. Isoprophyl alcohol and q-tips work the best. If that doesn't work then have to take the two screws out from behind the sticker. Then scrub hard with q-tips and Isopropyl alcohol with the chip on a flat edge of a table while scrubbing right down the gold strips. I know cause my Alien versus Predator didn't work when I bought it. I used like 20 q-tips before I decided to take it apart and really scrub it down hard. Then it worked. Must of used 50 to 60 q-tips on it.
I had one of these and got rid of it because there were only around twelve games for the damn thing. Such a waste of power - ahead of it’s time in many ways! Nice video Mark!
Great work. You have a steady hand, and lots of patience! Also, best line in the video: "But to finally take something out so big and hard is a real joy" :P
Another top job Mark. I recently replaced a cart slot on a Megadrive and it was a massive ball-ache to do. Congrats on getting this Jag up and running once again.
The slot connector looks like a PCI slot, or the added slot on a VESA Local Bus connector. But they might not be exactly the same amount of pins. Always the brave man putting everything together before testing.
Nice job Mark. I can see why some people might resort to hacking the connector to pieces, without a desoldering station it would probably be the best way. Using a manual solder sucker and solder wick would be an exercise in frustration.
I got this also my console was clean and looked like new with carts i would put in and got the red screen but blew in the cart slot and it worked when i get new carts i get the same thing thought it was the power button but would not turn on without a cart i think this red screen is common with all jaguars.
I tried ramming a skunk into a jaguar's slot, but they both went absolutely mental. The skunk got killed, but not before spraying everything. Blood everywhere, it stank and I've been permanently banned from the zoo.
I have 1 Jaguar with a similar problem, I'll have to see if there are pins messed up in the slot. Do you have a link to where you purchased the replacement slot from? Also, the Skunk board case you have - is that a 3d printed case? Do you have a link to an STL of that or where you got it? Thanks!
The cart slot was purchased from Best Electonics. Website is here. You'll need to email. www.best-electronics-ca.com/jaguar.htm Skunkboard came complete from Zaxon, so I don't have an STL I'm afraid.
This was therapeutic to watch. Had a Jaaaaag back in the day and will be getting one again, so great to have a good heads up on this. Disappointed you didn't use the saw though. :D Wonderful to see Doom being used in the test. That was actually how I played the full version of Doom as my PC really wasn't up to task. Big soft spot for the Jag port of Doom :)
I did a few joints, adding new solder but it kept bridging the pins and being a pain. I'll definitely take your advice next time though, just with flux though.
Gadget has more skill than I. This unit will be used at gaming exhibitions, so I was worried that an already bent connector would fail again. After the slot was removed the pin came back into view and I could probably straighten it. It's going into the spares box anyway..
@@MarkFixesStuff it takes a considerable amount of effort and gadget's dedication has certainly saved a lot of retro kit that others would have given up on. If it's to be used for exhibitions and spares are available it's a no brainer to replace it. I'm curious what's so special about it that there's no current alternative. I'm sure we'd find something if stocks run out or be printing something to fit contacts into.
Nicely done! And I thought replacing the NVRAM of my Atari Falcon was tough. 😁 I think it's about time to fire up my Jag-CD System soon, to see if it still works after two decades of storage! 🙏
I´ve almost expected you will start to light candles and essences, chanting for machine god (becuse of the near-WH40K music). Well, in this case it would be recommended x)
Well that really sucked..... Ha.. Boom!, its how you tell'em..... Seriously though, good effort, that would have driven me nuts. Certainly helps to have the pro tools.
You should use a 10-bit linear interpolation current steering digital to analog converter (DAC) and a Gilbert cell mixer to generate an RF amplitude modulated signal directly. The linear interpolation increases the attenuation of the DAC's image components.
Oh, c'mon. You can never get tired of screwing :D You just have to screw with confidence! Edit: Your D URATOOL :D looks quite similar to my ZD-915. Although mine does not attract as many gummy bears.
Anyone got a link to the website he bought the connector from ? I tried and tried but nothing turns up in my Wed search... Best Electronics is what he said... 😓
Reminds me of the Angry Video Game Nerds Jaguar
Thank you for showing an Atari Jaguar some love.
Satisfying! Great and very patient job Mark
Thank you for nursing this kitty back to health! :D

Nice repair, looked very tricky
Another top job Mark. I recently replaced a cart slot on a Megadrive and it was a massive ball-ache to do. Congrats on getting this Jag up and running once again.
Very well done. You have the patience necessary to do this type of fix properly.
Thanks GORF. Slow and steady!
Please friend, where did you buy the spare part?
www.best-electronics-ca.com/jaguar.htm#Connector
Thanks so much Mr.
How on earth you managed to resolder those pins without bridging any, that's a steady hand. 👍
I did manage one bridge, but went back and fixed it in the fast bit. I didn't think it was worth mentioning becuase it's a common thning.
Craig is lucky to have such an expert working his slot.
This looked like a tricksy fix but definitely worth the effort mate.
utterly wonderful innuendo 😆😆😍

The cart slot is a custom slot which is too bad really.

Excellent video. Great channel 👍
The video I didn’t know I wanted, definitely didn’t need it but did want it in the end lol. Great work mate

it helps once you've cleared the vias to use a hot air tool to get any residual tight spots molten to it just drops right out. impressive work :D
That's a really great tip. I'm going to use that one next time. Thank you, and thanks for watching!

It's OK. We have a Lynx here.
Is there a video on how you've bevelled your Skunkboard? I've damaged my cartridge slot in the same manner as this one :(
No Rocky, sorry. All I do is use a large cross-cut file and manually bevel it, drawing the file downwards at a 45 degree angle.
Nice work, yeah quite laborious but a little patience pays off. ;) Wish me luck, currently trying to bid on one.

What was the shop called that sopd the parts? Couldn't quite catch it.
Best electronics. They're in the USA. They have the single worst website in the world, but drop them an email and they respond quickly.
This is one of the many reasons I hate Atari products. Big up to you Mark for sorting this out for me though!
Did you manage to get a Jaguar game drive
Unfortunately not. Funds are very scarce right now in MFS Towers. Even looking down the back of the sofa didn't help.
Ask him to send me one.

Pinball games were a big hit when they first came out. We could not keep the games in stock.
I really liked how the games played on the Amigas.
That isn't the smallest tip you can get for that soldering station. I wouldn't use that tip for even through hole components.
