The real test in the US will be when the Mach-E has the J3400 charge port. Sales should really take off.

The Select Mach-E AWD Extended Range is the best balance of price, range, performance, and charging speeds. 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and 300 miles of full range plus 36 mins 10 to 80% charging for $48,890 USD.

I looked very closely at those, but I'd rather have an actual heat pump (inexcusable not to have one in any EV over $30k), not have a bouncy poorly tuned suspension (only the GT Performance is even "decent") AND have much faster charging in 18 minutes with my EV6 that cost less after discounts, all for just a couple of tenths slower to 60 as the only compromise, if that little difference is even noticeable in the real world.

The Mach E which has been criticized at times, unfairly, is really not a bad car. Its price is comparable to other EVs and while it doesn’t look like the classic ICE model, still packs a lot of punch…3.3 second 0 to 60 ain’t too shabby and is faster than some V8 powered cars. It’s also practical because it’s a hatchback that has a lot of storage space. Good for Ford for upgrading this oftimes overlooked EV!😊😊

Only GT version is that fast and those cost a good bit more than what the average American can pay. The folks that were dumb enough to pay 10-30k+ over MSRP over 8-10 years are all way upside down. Those folks won't be buying a new car anytime soon. Not to mention the problems the car has with recalls and no OTA updates.

I drove a Mach E and it was pretty good IMO, I would love to try the Ioniq sometime but haven't been able to. I liked the interior more than any tesla I have ever ridden in, but I am a guy who likes his buttons. The range is fine, if you need more than 280mi, take a plane, bus or train.

@@larryc1616 junk is implying it doesn’t work at all. So that obviously not true. Tesla/BYD make the best total package (range, interior, performance). A MachE looks nicer than those other cars. And the interior probably feels nicer (mustang seats are usually very nice). I’m renting one this weekend for a trip and look forward to sporting around with it. 🏁

As a 35 year career mechanic, I have felt the entire time that legacy auto has been cheating the public since long before I was ever born. Recalls are just examples of Fords suppliers producing parts that fail too early. They were intended to fail soon after warranty, so yeah... they failed too soon. This is the reason why after Tesla came along, power levels of gasoline engines started going up dramatically. Oem's give as little as possible to the public. The cars they offer to the public are always watered down and crappy compared to what they could actually do or be, so it pleases me that Elon just raises the levels of performance in every respect , at will , always outpacing the legacy competition.

ICE is tapped out and there's only incremental improvements. Meanwhile the EPA continually squeezes them for lower emissions and higher economy. We have turbos, 3 pot engines, variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation, start-stop. All trying to get that last MPG but paying for it with higher cost and complexity.
Along comes GM with a 50 mile range EV using crude motors and lead acid batteries, and people love them. GM's response was to crush them all. Do you wonder if the oil companies might have had anything to do with this? Hmmmm.
Nowadays we have lithium batteries, much improved motors, high speed inverter semiconductors, and we're just getting going. Performance is improving, costs are coming down.

I am pretty sure Ford is just dipping into the battery reserve area in order to give customers that 20 miles more range. They haven't changed the battery pack size as far as I can tell.
Congrats on the torque increase however. That might be an electronics change on the motors themselves.
One has to wonder if Ford will offer an upgrade of 20 miles to their existing Mach-E customers if I'm right about this being a battery reserve change?
Maybe later after they have used this as a marketing tool to get sales.

I guess it's easier to make the motors faster than it is to add range. I still say it's about range (not speed), price ($28k not $48k) and ease of charging. Get those right and you will get over the early adopter and influencer hurtle.

Ford’s traditional customer base is so anti-EV I don’t really know if Ford can ever compete and will go out of business by 2030 around the world. Ford will still sell F150's to the rednecks and make money at it. If they want to continue in business they will have to come up with decent EVs and sell them to people who now drive Toyotas. Farley saying that Ford's engineers didn't do well enough is laughable.
Who also is an engineer Mr. Farley? Who is at the helm of the company and could have gone down and talked with the engineers to find out what they were planning?
All this shows is that Ford is a striated behemoth where the left and right hands don't talk to each other.
This may be the biggest reason that Tesla will put the OEMs out of a job.... because of the way Tesla's super flat business culture works.
If you read this and don't know what I'm talking about look up TH-cam vids by Joe Justice. Many of which feature Joe talking about his observations when he worked at Tesla as to its way of doing business. You seem to be an anti-Tesla troll. Every comment you make hates on Tesla in some way. You must get paid pretty well to troll social media comments with such BS. Maybe you could share with me how I can be a part of this paid trolling group. I could use the extra coin for basically little effort.

Not better than Tesla, but still better than every ICE car on the road.
