      The problem is they can only release an update that does that to Google phones. Companies like Samsung need to do it themselves. For now Google's solution is to use Google Messages app on any Android phone and it works RCS on most phones. If it doesn't there is a "hack" to get it

      They are working with a few manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung to include this by default. It's going to be turned on for everyone very soon. Already about 10% of the people I text have it.
      Of course iPhones are another story and may lay behind for a while.

      Sort of right. RCS is carrier supported and can deliver the same service to any phone no matter the brand or OS. So maybe RCS can be useful or maybe it's too late and WhatsApp and so on has already solved that problem.

      @@Zedexization Facebook owns WhatsApp and RCS is a standard that, in theory, should be able to be cross-platform. Which means you and whoever you're messaging with shouldn't necessarily have to be using the same app. Most people in the US use the default messaging app on their phone which makes for a very disjointed messaging environment with half of people on iMessage and the other half all trying to agree on which messaging service they should all use.

      That is why I use SMS if my message is important. Data coverage is not perfect where I live and SMS doesn't require data just the normal carrier signal. I have seen many instances of messages via apps that use data being delayed but SMS is mostly instantaneous. People also tend to ignore their messaging apps sometimes but they almost always read their SMS. For example delivery details are always sent via SMS when I order something online and that is definitely something I want to be aware of.
      Where I live we have both unlimited data and unlimited SMS on monthly plans, so it's nice to have the choice and not worry about costs in either case. Many people though still have prepaid plans which can run out of data after a week of binge watching youtube videos in HD and SMS suddenly doesn't seem so bad.

      Works very much like iMessage. If the other user is using RCS too it goes over data. If they haven’t got RCS switched on it will go as a regular SMS or MMS if you send a photo, video etc
      Only problem I’ve found is occasionally it tries to send it as a RCS even if the other user can’t receive it, so your message is kind of stuck and just shows as ‘SENT’

    • @josej.navarrocandelaria4216
      @josej.navarrocandelaria4216 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can select how to send the RCS/Chat message if the first attempt fails, either send it as SMS/MMS, resend as SMS/MMS if not roaming, ask before sending or never send as SMS/MMS. As you see, you could desire to always send the Message, but if you have friends/family in other countries and either you or them at that moment doesn't have data connection, the message could go (depending on settings) via SMS/MMS and someone could get charged for a message that wasn't expecting to get charge with. Specially when the files can be a max of 105MBs, if you decide to send a few at the same time, depending on you plan, it will add up

We both loved using this more than WhatsApp now since messages actually gets delivered, regardless if you have a data connection or not. If you're communicating in an area where mobile data is spotty, RCS will immediately send the message as SMS. This feature auto switches, so you don't have to do anything.

    Ok so RCS sounds like a great concept but What would happen if on your Android phone you send an RCS to an iPhone or another android (the Android user doesn’t use RCS) does the message go via the internet or via the network?
    How secure is RCS? Who has access to the messages other than myself and the intended recipient ?
    Can I message someone abroad using RCS if say their carrier doesn’t support it but they have an Android phone with RCS?
    Can I use RCS using a chrome book or windows laptop as I can using my MacBook and iMessage?
    Does RCS support video calls

    • @JoeNokers
      @JoeNokers 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay so first question, what if they don't have RCS? It will simply send the message over text as usual, no different than now.
      I'm not sure about the security aspect.
      I enabled RCS through the app in Australia (where the service isn't available), however it still works, just connects to US servers, so theoretically in the future it will work agnostic of your country. However for now it only works in supported regions, otherwise it will default to sms.
      Yes you can message from a PC or any other device with a browser, google has a website called "messages for web" which lets you send texts just like you would in the app, it's the reason I have been using Google messages for a while before RCS became a thing
      RCS doesn't support video calls, but neither does iMessage, there is a shortcut in the app the call someone on Google duo but it's a seperate app like FaceTime

    • @jonathancox3668
      @jonathancox3668 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      RCS from your Android to an iPhone would default to SMS. Apple will have to support it eventually as the 5G Charter requires manufacturers and carriers to support RCS. If you send a message to another Android user it should go via RCS. It is not encrypted end to end. That said once your message is delivered it is removed from Googles servers. The government or police can access your messages. If you send a message abroad it will default to SMS if their carrier has any issues. You can use Android Messages in a browser. There is a link you can go to and a QR code you utilize to sync the devices. Once synced you can send messages from your computer.

    I'm from Ireland. Couldn't care less about RCS since WhatsApp, Fb, telegram etc currently does and & continue to do a better job then RCS ever can regardless of iPhone or Android. The only thing my SMS system is used for are receiving services codes, for example 2FA login codes.
    RCS seems like a complete waste of money & is only being developed for silly Americans to adopt because they refuse to move to a third party smarter messaging system like WhatsApp.
    It amazes me how the whole world sees the US as one of the most modern & up to date tech countries and then I learn the vast majority of Americans use SMS for daily communication. Come on! 😂

      Never had any issue with sms. Don't really care if I get RCS or not.

    iMessage is one of the only reasons I stick to iPhone. But also facetime and Apple Music, which TH-cam Music can replace Apple Music and Duo can replace facetime, but I text people with green messages, its not fun, also by default apple disables read receipts and I think they should be enabled by default.

      Simple, don't use their products Buddy, just stick to Apple, so you can get lied to about how they don't collect data, and not fully upfront about their location privacy data, but hey, when they get caught people are quick to sweep it under a rug , "hey, it's apple, it was an honest mistake"

    I know people who use government phones and they have limited data and some also don't have their own Wi-Fi, so will this make it impossible for them to communicate with other people if they have RCS and they run out of data?
