Excellent vehicle. Being normal control and not cabover, that big engine hanging out at the front is a great counterbalance for the spec. lift at the rear. I'll bet it's nice to drive as well. + 1 for your good wishes for the two blokes hurt in the accident.
Why would a company buy such a hideous tow truck as that Freightliner when, in Germany, you have such vastly superior vehicles available, even from the parent company - Mercedes, and available with vastly superior towing systems to the American rubbish?
I suspect the head of the towing company likes american trucks. Everyone in Germany owns a Mercedes or MAN, but very few have a Frightliner. This is something special here in Germany and therefore an eye-catcher. I think that's what it's about too.
@@jogi6738 Think you must be right on choice of truck . Might be a smart truck with great pulling power , but think Kollmers Beast takes some beating .
@@tomatoes3 If I recall correctly Kollmer's Beast is what we call in the USA a Rotator. The trucks used here were "straight stick" tow vehicles The straight stick machines have been around since the 1940s if not earlier. You have similar machines in Germany, and they have probably been around for about as long. Rotators cost much more money than straight stick machines, but they can do a lot more, so if you can afford them the cost can often be justified. For a recovery such as this, a rotator would have had little added benefit to justify the extra cost of the recovery. From watching, I would say that German and US rotators are very equivalent. They are built slightly differently, but it appears that they have very nearly the same capabilities. A US rotator would probably look exotic in Germany also, as would a German rotator in the US.
@@lwilton think I would agree with the use of the rotator in this case, but it makes some recovery work far easier. The "Beast " itself is probably on par with the US machines in winch pulling power.
Freightliner recovery truck looks smart, and unusual to see such a vehicle in Germany 🇩🇪 Hope the injured are not to badly hurt.

Sehr geiler Abschlepper
Is that a Freightliner tow truck I see hooking up to the wreck? I didn’t think there were any of those in the EU.

Maybe they are “custom" truck fans and they have recovered it in some us army camp or usaf ab dumpyard, because Germany is still crowded by us forces

And the point of this video is ?..............
I still don’t understand why a crane traveling 45 km/h hits a stationary truck waiting for a crane to be towed.
