So excited to play this tonight, Dead Space has been gone for far too long, and it deserves a resurgance so a whole new audience can experience one of the best survival horror games ever.
Hey Karak, I just want to say I really appreciate how concise your videos are. I have a friend trying to grow a small channel and he often bounces his thoughts off of me. In the process of trying to find what works and doesn't I've ended up looking at the content I enjoy most through a more critical lens. I keep coming back to your channel for an assortment of examples they can pull from for a variety of reasons. Though the thing I feel really rings true with your channel is it feels like you've taken the time to work on a script and distilled it down to the most succinct version of itself. That and your more humble personality really resonates. Anyway, thanks for content man, always love seeing a new video drop.
I had already pre-ordered it for $41 a month ago, so I'm just here to hear the review. The OG game is still as good as it ever was (even better on PC), but even six or seven years ago it was starting to show its age with many of the textures. While I am getting a bit tired of the remaster/remake trend, this game kind of needed the visual upgrade. Glad it seems to be stable and bug free from day one...unlike a certain other "Dead Space" game that recently released.
I played the original for the first time a couple years ago and was shocked at how well it still holds up. The graphics put even some of today's games to shame. The atmosphere is second to none. This is the one I am looking forward to playing in October the most.
Glad this one’s looking good. Been wanting a good horror game to play through! It’s been a while since I’ve played the first game so this will be awesome.
Heavy sigh of relief, followed by trip to the game store. Thank you for such a well written review. Reading all the great memories of this game in the comments was a real treat as well.
The ishimura was always such a cool setting. I adored ‘event horizon’ when I was younger, it was the first piece of sci-fi horror that really clicked with me (alien/s was more fun and adventure-like) I always felt like Dead Space captured that feeling well, the claustrophobic horror of being in space. I’m glad this remake seems like a winner. I can’t wait to get it for $10 in 2 years lol:)
Have you guys watched most of the deleted footage of Event Horizon's vision of what "Hell" supposedly looks like? That was so amazingly f$cked up. I wish the movie had more of that in it. But yes, Event Horizon is also one of my cult favorites.
@@XxWolfxWaRioRxX Blame EA and other triple-A publishers. They'll pretend economic inflation is at fault until enough people wait for sales or boycott.
THIS game is so important between myself and my daughter... She insisted on stating up late ( she was 4 )... I thought it would make no "NOPE!!" outta there and go to bed... Nope, she was enthralled, called out enemies, and gripping onto my arm at certain points... It was one the funnest 2 day ever... Now, scary movies and games are just our thing... We love them... You'd never know either, because she's the kindest teen ever... We joke and call them "Parental Failure Nights"... I think I'm nearly at 850 now... 👍 I'd LOVE to get this remake to play with her!!!
The greatest 'low-key' appeal of the original was the ship itself - the Ishimura. A ship that actually felt like a ship, coherent, logical, functional. With the remake it now feels gargantuan in size, you're dwarfed by the immense engineering which fires out spectacularly as you restore function. Fabulous remake, keeping the claustrophobic desperation, quality voice acting and internal logic. Now we have some of the best use of lighting I've ever seen in a game. 9/10
I bought this game on sale and absolutely love it. I thought I wouldn’t enjoy a horror game but I was wrong. The vibe is great trying to piece together the events that made this place take a turn is my favorite part. The environment too, the rundown version of a once high tech space ship never gets old.
ACG, you're my absolute favorite reviewer. The next few months are going to be awesome with all of the upcoming releases and I can't wait to get your take on them all. Keep it up man. Another great video as always. ✌🏾✌🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Literally every new game releasing is 70$. All big time games will be 70$ on release. Just like they were 60$ on release for like 10+ years. It’s really not that crazy of news. Just wait a few months and it’ll drop.
@@EventhorizonShadows no every new game is not that price. try again. Resident evil 4 remake, one piece odyssey, Ishin, and star ocean the divine force just to name a few.
I injured myself playing the original. I sat down in a gaming chair and played the first 3-4 hours straight through, and must've tensed up so much, that when I stopped, I couldn't move. My back was very badly hurt. Took five days to be able to move normally again, and I recall having to call off from work a couple of days. That's how scary that game was at the time.
I literally loled with your comment, this happened to me too. Could only play 1-2 hours before needing to take a break to recover mentality from this game.
I recently finished the calisto protocol.. loved it tbh ... then I played the original dead space on my ps3 just because I love si fi and horror . I can't wait to get hold of this ..
The only thing I’m bummed about is Issac doesn’t seem to walk and stand differently when injured, and he’s not animating differently when walking with the zero g mag boots, but other than that, this game looks stellar can’t wait :)
It's similar to Left 4 Dead random spawn system but more improvement. I still play Left 4 Dead to this day and it gets jumpscare from time to time. Really held up the horror action, unfortunately can't say the same every horror games out there with scripted spawn when it comes to replayability
@@redhakiim789 I didn't know this was a thing till people started talking about the finer details of this game. Alien isolation is one of my favorite horror games and I had no clue that it was one of the more successful uses of such a system.

@Jason Derek We all had that same mistake, you're not alone. My first pre ordered game was CP2077 and we all know how it ended... But the important thing is, we learn from that mistake.
Really love your change to titles to give the answer!! Still watching the whole video but really appreciate being able to look back at ones ive seen or about to see and know what the verdict was.
Purchased. I waited for reviews, mainly yours. Preload done and tomorrow after work it's headphones + dark room time. I'm so, SO happy this is better than The Callisto Protocol from which I had tons of expectations.
played DS2 on launch when I was in high school, some of 3. Never played the first one bc I heard it was too scary. Excited to play this as a prequel of sorts
9:17 The reason Issac is "stiff" is due to the RIG (Resource Integration Gear) on his back, imagine having a Steal pole strapped to your spine, you wouldnt be so limber either. the CEC Engineering RIG was designed for Protection against hazardous environments and physical trauma , NOT mobility like the RIG's in DEAD SPACE 2 (ADVANCED SUIT), so it would make sense why issac would be "stiff and stout" instead of frolicking around like a ninja on steroids as the CEC ENGINEERING RIG was not made for combat, but rigorous work and dangerous environments.
I just beat dead space for the first time and I couldn’t believe one of my death animations. My head got cut off and one of the monsters took his head and put it on mine and I started walking with the aliens head on mine. It was fucking terrifying
Beyond graphical fidelity, I can't really justify this. I have a PS3, and I have this game for it. Is it worth spending $70 to play a game that I already have but prettier? I don't think so, no. It's like The Last of Us Part 1 - the original holds up so well and this changes so little that it just doesn't make any sense for somebody who played and still has easy access to the original. Remakes like Resident Evil 2 and even upcoming RE4 that significantly modernize the experience and capture the original feeling without being too "samey" is the sweet spot (and bless Capcom for sticking to the $59.99 price point). This to me just smells like a way to resurrect an old franchise with a coat of polish to make it more appealing to a newer generation. I'll give it a look when it hits "deep deep sale" territory in a couple years.
I’m glad the remake is worth buying on a side note I really liked Callisto Protocol and thinks it’s worth a buy too especially with new game plus just added.
I agree; I think Glen Schofield’s initial creation (Dead Space) outshined The Calisto Protocol too much and was misunderstood by fellow epic gamers. Calisto Protocol is definitely worth a play through!
Here's my opinion on Callisto Protocol: Story is too short, battle is cumbersome because of the dodgy dodge mechanic, most combat is close quarters, lackluster exploration options and terrible performance on PC with high end hardware. Callisto is not worth the full price tag they're asking.
@@Mental-Cobwebsit has potential and still does but it missed the mark of what people wanted if they added more unique enemy types, dial back the melee combat and have back tracking elements similar to Resident evil I think it would’ve be a way better experience
Stoked to play this but it's so hard to justify $90 on a single player campaign these days. Will wait for a small sale to cop - thanks for the review as always, Karak!
I find it ironic that a game like this in this day and age, graphically impressive, no micro transactions, zero bugs and performance issues came outta EA of all companies, what a time to be alive I tells ya!!!...
The only reason I’m hesitant to buy this immediately is that $60 feels like a lot for a remake of a game from 2008, even if they made a lot of improvements.
Having played this game 10 years ago, I struggle to justify paying premium dollars for a game that had it's foundation, story, and mocap in place years ago. Yes, adding new lighting and textures looks awesome, but this is EA trying to sell a game at full price with 1/3 the work of the original developers. I'm waiting for it to hit 19-29 dollars in a few months when EA realizes other games are taking its appeal away.
Once again Karak, thank you for all your hard work and honest take. I really do trust your word, and have similar taste to yours. Basically I'm just writing this to drive up your numbers so the algorithm stops screwing you over. Even thought I've been subbed to you for years, I rarely see your channel pop up on my home page. I don't know whose mom at TH-cam you screwed over, but I appreciate the work you do. Here's to hoping TH-cam lets you back into the "members only" club.
I was born in ‘75 so I guess I got a few years on you! I missed this one on ps3 but I’m now checking it out on ps5.. Not sure why but I’ve been on a sci fi kick in recent years.. This has such an Alien 1 feel to it.. I feel my best chance it to tackle it now being I’ve been playing so much Last of Us & RE currently lol
Beat DS 1 AND 2 years ago. Never bothered to play 3. I'll probably get this one on sale or when it inevitably comes to EA play on Gamepass. It's essentially the same game with updated visuals and a voice for Issac. I'll definitely play it in the future.
So far, it looks like a retexture or something which really says a lot to how good the graphics and art direction was in the original. There are differences, but I mean come on, they made an already pretty looking game into another looker. It won't be as drastic of a change as RE2 Remake or something.
Love your channel bro. You are the person I listen to the most for reviews. Jake Baldino is good but you guys differ enough that you are more on my level. Hope you have a great day! Keep up the great day!
Thanks, Karak! I was so into the original Dead Space that I really don't need a remake right now, but for anyone who's intrigued who *didn't* play the original, this looks like an easy game to recommend. If they continue forward, remaking the other two games, I'll have warnings (I felt the games got worse, successively, and I was done by the time I finished DS3), but this one, for new players, looks fine. Cheers!
Thank you sir - listening to your reviews is like poetry for me, on a topic that I love and from such a lyrically gifted person. Keep up the great work, and thank you!
In short, just play the original. If you really loved the original but also felt it needed a remake then you never really loved the game. It was more than likely just nostalgia.
I played the first 20 mins of Dead Space and I’ve never been more scared playing a game. One Necromorph snuck up on me and almost ripped Isaacs head off and I screamed so loud
A little miffed my Amazon preorder won’t come in until Tuesday but nevertheless as a fan of the original (still can’t believe I first played it 14 years ago) I’m so stoked to play this, and a fantastic review as always from one of the best game reviewers out there! Stay awesome and keep up the amazing work!
Man ACG continues to be the top reviewer. I had already seen a few reviews for this game, and as someone who enjoyed the originals back in their prime I still wasn’t sold for the max price (also Hogwarts Legacy around the corner is a big factor), and yet after watching ACG Im tempted to squeeze it in… Thank you for your in-depth reviews, they continue to be unrivaled and really helped me make decisions on what to get, outside of what Ive already made up my mind on regardless of reviews (and even then I always enjoy your take on those games).
@@a_fallen_temple not particularly, though I am claustrophobic. I just don’t like being blind in a video game. I’ve had this complaint with ODST where random rooms would just be a void of darkness.
cool review, but what i really wanted to hear is how much they changed the story from the source material and it seems you mostly left that out, saw a few parts in your vids that dont seem to be part of the original game's story and that worries me a lot especially with the industries obesssion with "fixing" things
Yep I discussed that right at the end if you have or haven't played it before. Wait for streamers for full spoilers on how much is changed I would say.
One thing im most happy about this remake, is that i'll get to replay it in english. Back when it came out, living in Switzerland i bought it on ps3 and it was in frenchsadly. Now its going to be even better. Was one of the first cosplays i did as well and won my first contest with it, so its has a lot of personal meaning to me as well.
I just wanna inform people that you don’t have to pay 70$ for this game at least on PC, you can get ea play pro for 15$/month. Hope this save some of you money, cheers
ACG, i was hoping for a comparison between the remake and the initial Dead Space. After all, they are selling this as a new, improved, Dead Space. Nothing about that. Nothing about the character changes either. This was a missed opportunity.
Another awesome review by ACG. I recently went through the Dead Space series on backwards compatibility as I wanted to remind myself how great these games were. I appreciate that they left the heart of the game and made improvements (tighter controls, better graphics, more content). Just not 100% that I want to pay FULL RETAIL for the remake. On the one hand, this would have been insane if the game(s) had not been backwards compatible as the nostalgia alone would sell it. Some games deserve a remake or even a "fresh coat of paint" remaster. On the other hand, you could look at it as a "cash grab" in a way with repackaging and reselling a highly popular series to an existing fan base and with the hopes of expanding it. For me, it is a wait for sale.
Per your comments about music stinger being off a little - if I remember correctly in the original Dead Space, the player would not hear a combat stinger until a Necromorphs detects you, not the other way around. Makes it a little more scary since it can happen with your back turned. Hopefully they kept this as I thought it added a little to the “WTF” factor.
Great review Karik. What I really like about this remake as well is it's a game that actually warrants a remake. Either are worth playing 100% I'm really looking forward to this though at some point.
I ended up trading in my copy of the Xbox 360 Dead Space. When the employee asked why I said that the game was too disturbing to keep playing after I beat it once. He replied that I wasn't the only one who has told him that. I am ready to face the horror again.
As allways.... Amazing reviewing. The way you speak so fluidly and perfectly, full of discriptive info is rare and really suits these vids perfectly. Don't change a God damned thing for ANY company or anyone!
In this case I probably would have been ok with a very short video. All I want to know is: "did they mess something up that was great in the original" and "is it a bug-infested shitshow that needs at least 2 months of patching before anyone should consider buying it". Thanks anyways for all the work to make it a 16 minute video instead of 16 seconds just answering these important questions 😆

This is the one I am looking forward to playing in October the most.
my favorite thing about ACG is his reviews are always so quick and to the point, DeadSpace is on my wishlist now
Glad this one’s looking good.
Where we're going we won't need Eyes to see
Have you guys watched most of the deleted footage of Event Horizon's vision of what "Hell" supposedly looks like? That was so amazingly f$cked up. I wish the movie had more of that in it. But yes, Event Horizon is also one of my cult favorites.
@@OmkaraHellcore I hope one day for the deleted footage gets restored. Theres a lost 130 minute runtime of the movie. I hope they recover it one day.

I loved the original, I will get this one when its reduced in price. I have other games on my radar at the moment. Glad to see it got a great review.
It being 70 pounds should be a crime TBH
@@XxWolfxWaRioRxX Blame EA and other triple-A publishers. They'll pretend economic inflation is at fault until enough people wait for sales or boycott.
I honestly don't buy anything over $30 anymore.
@@IAMthatIAM992 I totally agree. I always wait for a deep sale. Especially single player games with no real replayability.
@@jokairou489 how is it pretending? Taking into account for inflation from the original’s release the game should cost 80$
9:08 to be fair. Isaac's slouch is iconic
I'd LOVE to get this remake to play with her!!!
Thanks for sharing that, that’s awesome mate!
I’m excited to see posts and clips of people playing it for the first time. I can re-experience the game vicariously though their eyes.

First time in a few years I actually saw your review in my feed, normally I have to manually search for it for every release
I should probably add a bit.
I’ve always found it very odd, this channel
Has always been subscribed and alerted but as I said I’ve not seen any content in my feed in 2-3 years untill just now which I waste 4-8 hours daily on…. Always loved your work though thus weekly

Thanks!
You can tell acg enjoyed this a lot more then forspoken given how he didn't say not to buy it in the title lol. Great review as always.
I made a mistake playing DS2 before 1 back then. Silent Isaac make DS1 feels really weird. Now it's time to play again.
I remember playing this around christmas alone, and it's nostalgic because Fallout 3 also came out around this time and both these games really blew my mind.
1:09 was.... was that a Dante's Inferno reference there?.... Cause if so man you went up several more notches in my book!!
RIP Visceral one of the best developers in visual design in the entirety of gaming...
I loved this game and thought it was pretty scary back in 08’. Just cannot justify a $70 price tag. 50$ or less I’m on board.
It’s well worth it in my opinion after playing it
Literally every new game releasing is 70$.
That spawn system was a worrying addition. I played dead space last year but I definitely want to see what changed. Thanks for the review ACG
@@Fenrir190 Yep, horror games should take note about this unpredictable random spawn/jumpscare system right now. It makes you wanna replay the game again but with different aspect compare to what you just witness in your previous playthrough
@Jason Derek Never played B4B and never will. Even if someone tries to give me a free copy of it, i still say no. That garbage shouldn't even call themselves a successor to L4D to begin with.
The second game is very classic and hopefully that's coming next
And then the 3rd

I'm so, SO happy this is better than The Callisto Protocol from which I had tons of expectations.
played DS2 on launch when I was in high school, some of 3. Never played the first one bc I heard it was too scary. Excited to play this as a prequel of sorts

The reason Issac is "stiff" is due to the RIG (Resource Integration Gear) on his back, imagine having a Steal pole strapped to your spine, you wouldnt be so limber either.
the CEC Engineering RIG was designed for Protection against hazardous environments and physical trauma , NOT mobility like the RIG's in DEAD SPACE 2 (ADVANCED SUIT), so it would make sense why issac would be "stiff and stout" instead of frolicking around like a ninja on steroids as the CEC ENGINEERING RIG was not made for combat, but rigorous work and dangerous environments.
I just beat dead space for the first time and I couldn’t believe one of my death animations. My head got cut off and one of the monsters took his head and put it on mine and I started walking with the aliens head on mine. It was fucking terrifying
Fckin classic.. That freaked me out for a while.. The tall mans groans are blood chilling. 🤘🏾😎🤘🏾
This is really a good game but it got better with these improved graphics and QOL. Definitely worth checking out. Thank you for this awesome review.
9:40 "Vegas nerve" for where enemies hide loot. I hadn't heard that one before, I like it.
I think it’s vagus nerve
@@k2769 I think that's part of the joke?
I’m glad the remake is worth buying on a side note I really liked Callisto Protocol and thinks it’s worth a buy too especially with new game plus just added.
I agree; I think Glen Schofield’s initial creation (Dead Space) outshined The Calisto Protocol too much and was misunderstood by fellow epic gamers. Calisto Protocol is definitely worth a play through!
nah it's still trash
@@funtourhawk much like your opinion
70 pounds for a remake none the less is pure greed and people shouldn't allow it
Wait for a sale later this year
It's cheaper on CD keys
Will definitely get this on a deep sale. Hopefully used.
I really appreciate how you do your reviews. You're always careful to not give unnecessary spoilers. Class.
I find it ironic that a game like this in this day and age, graphically impressive, no micro transactions, zero bugs and performance issues came outta EA of all companies, what a time to be alive I tells ya!!!...
EA: “maybe I don’t want to be the bad guy anymore”
The only reason I’m hesitant to buy this immediately is that $60 feels like a lot for a remake of a game from 2008, even if they made a lot of improvements.
£35 on pc
Having played this game 10 years ago, I struggle to justify paying premium dollars for a game that had it's foundation, story, and mocap in place years ago. Yes, adding new lighting and textures looks awesome, but this is EA trying to sell a game at full price with 1/3 the work of the original developers. I'm waiting for it to hit 19-29 dollars in a few months when EA realizes other games are taking its appeal away.
I've learned with both Ubisoft and EA titles, to never buy on release. Within a month it will be on sale at 25-40% off
The voice acting in general was better in the OG. Peter Mensah cannot be replaced in my mind. "This is madness!"
I love that dude man
The only thing that didn't get an upgrade is Isaac's girlfriend! Yikes!
I’m 40 yrs old and this game is in my top 10 all time…it’s absolutely perfect imo…so polished and well made too
I was born in ‘75 so I guess I got a few years on you!
Happy to see one of my favorite franchises get the remake it deserved
Thanks for the review. I would’ve also liked to know if gyro aiming is supported, given the game’s focus on precision gunplay
Charging full price for a rehashed game is something I just can’t do. I will just wait for it to go below $40 👍🏽
New ending and Issac talks
Thanks for the review. I was worried about the game director. Good to know your experience with it wasn't terrible.
In short, just play the original. If you really loved the original but also felt it needed a remake then you never really loved the game. It was more than likely just nostalgia.
Why if you have the money and the system to play this?
I played the first 20 mins of Dead Space and I’ve never been more scared playing a game. One Necromorph snuck up on me and almost ripped Isaacs head off and I screamed so loud
It's definitely the scariest game I've played so far. I played in the dark but I had a small lamp on its lowest setting in the corner, lol.
Why does Nicole look 60?
A little miffed my Amazon preorder won’t come in until Tuesday but nevertheless as a fan of the original (still can’t believe I first played it 14 years ago) I’m so stoked to play this, and a fantastic review as always from one of the best game reviewers out there! Stay awesome and keep up the amazing work!
What the Hell did EA do to Isaac's wife? She sure as Hell didn't look like that in the original.
I would like to know if it is now possible to set the FOV.
I love dead space, but $70 for a remake is absolutely ridiculous. I'm going to wait until it's $20-$30.
It's an EA game, it will be on sale for around $45 in a month. Look at the new Need for Speed, it got down to $41 after only three weeks on PSN
I honestly felt like the money I spent was more of a donation than anything, indicating how much I want the franchise as a whole to be revitalized.
Man ACG continues to be the top reviewer. I had already seen a few reviews for this game, and as someone who enjoyed the originals back in their prime I still wasn’t sold for the max price (also Hogwarts Legacy around the corner is a big factor), and yet after watching ACG Im tempted to squeeze it in…
Thank you for your in-depth reviews, they continue to be unrivaled and really helped me make decisions on what to get, outside of what Ive already made up my mind on regardless of reviews (and even then I always enjoy your take on those games).
The only man I trust back with another quality review.
I played this on my Steam Deck on Medium settings while sitting on the toilet. Yeah. I just did that. What? WHAT!?
Why did they make Nicole look so ugly though?
Attractive women in games are offensive.
My biggest concern is the gamma slider. Does it work like other horror games such as Alien Isolation where I can set the brightness to max?
Are you afraid of the dark?
Lmao
@@a_fallen_temple not particularly, though I am claustrophobic. I just don’t like being blind in a video game. I’ve had this complaint with ODST where random rooms would just be a void of darkness.

cool review, but what i really wanted to hear is how much they changed the story from the source material and it seems you mostly left that out, saw a few parts in your vids that dont seem to be part of the original game's story and that worries me a lot especially with the industries obesssion with "fixing" things

Sheesh, this was a 2 minute review with 13 minutes of incessant metaphor rambling.
Considering how the callisto protocol disappointed.. I might give dead space series a go
@Tyler Durden oh yeah? Damn. Typical EA
Awesome review. I really appreciate the quality of your voice audio. Kudos to you or your editor, whomever is doing it nailed it.
Interesting. I found it didnt work in places. But your explanation makes some sense. It doesn't work great though
DeadSpace was the first game I purchased for PS3. It blew my mind... it's one of those games that feels like it was made for me. When I heard they were remaking it, I was incredibly excited and filled with hope. I'm so grateful this remake is everything I was hoping for. One of my favorite games ever now remade for PS5. I played the og probably 10 times, and I am beyond excited to play it again.
