The only bad thing I can say about the Dead Space remake is that it makes me care about the characters now and makes everything that happens to them more heart wrenching.
Perfectly redone story, better combat and exploration, more menacing necro attacks. The remake is nothing but more goodness on the original's legacy. A big connection I noticed to the previous games is in how Isaac makes the crazy decisions. "I gotta enter the ADS trench and recalibrate the cannons in an asteroid rainstorm." "I gotta enter Food Storage and finish off the Leviathan." "I gotta mess with dangerous mining equipment to plant an SOS beacon on an asteroid." It really shows that the devs not only were fans of the originals but also updated the game correctly with features that could not have been done in the generation of the orginal release, and i really like that one of those key aspects is exploration and i hope they bring that to on dead space 2 remake
This remake was a dream come true for me. I’m a huge dead space fan and I was grinning from ear to ear during my entire playthrough and I can’t wait to dive into NG+.
One very small detail I loved when I saw it in game is the robotic arms on the infirmary beds that basically foreshadow what the patient will turn in to
I’m actually amazed how hard they nailed this. Making the Ishimura like the spencer mansion but with random encounters solves the flaw of DS1 where you would feel safe after clearing most of a level . This gonna be scary as heck
@@punishedsteak5150 I am experiencing that a bit. If you play well you can end encounters with more resources than you used which lets you buy nodes and juice super hard. At least the node trees are gated by the part system. Maybe they implemented that for this very reason
Lol this is just wrong. You never feel safe in DS1. I mean the necromorphs attack you literally when everything is cleared and you are upgrading on the bench... and just one of the many examples
@@thegoatarmy6699 Yes! You hit the nail in the head with that one. That was the word I was looking for but couldn't for the life of me remember it, for these kinds of videos Suzie's voice and way of speaking becomes therapeutic.
Honestly, the game now feels a bit closer to System Shock 2 in terms of progression and exploration, thanks to the additions of a fully interconnected Ishimura and the clearance system. The moment I got access to the Ishimura's tram system, it immediately gave me vibes of using the Von Braun's main elevator to get back and forth between each decks to do certain things. Especially when you get the mission relating to look for special RIGs within all sectors of the ship. That's a pretty cool side mission, in my opinion.
Finding the guns directly and allowing you to reset power nodes are such welcome changes. I remember watching one of my favorite content creators play through the original. They never used anything but the plasma cutter and pulse rifle the entire game because they were saving credits for all the power nodes they can get for upgrades. They absolutely loved the game and it's details but I was sad the game design pushed them away from exploring all the awesome weapons the game had to offer.
I know exactly who you’re talking about and…ah well, not every game can *push* players to do a specific thing, sometimes players have to take initiative to find out why something is good. The youtuber you’re talking about didn’t even *try* to use them, which begs the question, why can they be sold in the first place?
The original was mature, these decisions being final, like decisions in real life are. While the remake is childish, where you can reset your decisions, as if they were never made. This infantilism, which includes being easily offended, is a huge problem in today's society, and the remake is a prime example of it, with its gender neutral toilettes, retconned Kendra character, and diverse ads. 👎
@@tomigun5180What's really childish is crying online about gender-neutral bathrooms and how people choose to play a single player game. Take a good, long look in the mirror before you start slinging mud at other people, because you sound pretty pathetic yourself.

It's great to see such a competent remake of a team that so clearly understands the original and knew how to improve upon it. Seems like there's a clear path to remaking DS2, reimagining DS3 and following up with an original DS4 by this team
I hope they don't remake all the games and just make a new one, because that would be time wasting. Why would you want to see the same sh1t when you can get new experience
Playing this game was like someone reaching into my past to take a piece of my childhood and give it back to me today, yet somehow even better than I remembered it.
That’s literally how I’ve always wanted the contact beam to be!! The only time it’s ever like that is the Dead Space Downfall movie, which I will definitely be watching right before diving into this remake! Awesome video as always ! Edit: I’m gonna wait on my play through of the game, but if I love it as much as I hope I do. I’m completely open to them remaking DS2 and opening up the sprawl. Though I think DS2 is completely timeless, it would just be cool to see how they further improve on what they did here.
The changes in Isaac's speech based on his health was a nice addition. For that matter the difference in dialog between NG and NG+ were great too! Can't decide which of his final boss lines was better. Amazing deliveries Gunner!
I’ve never played this series until the remake. What an amazing game. I’m finishing up my new game plus run so I can play Dead Space 2 for the first time.
Just looking at these clips I can see all the added details that enhance what was so good from the original. Good job on Motive for giving so much love and respect to an iconic game.
Ive gotta say Sphere Hunter, your review is far more informative and interesting than others that have been put out by major game critic companies. I've already got this pre-ordered, but you've made me even more excited to play this game.
This is honestly so nice to see! Dead Space always felt like a franchise that was snubbed by it's publisher, by certain parts of the press, but these games were amazing and Visceral worked their butts off to make them, it's só good to see that the remake is not only as good as the original, but also better, I need to pick up this game ASAP.
a small cool thing i like was that when you are repeatedly stomping issac gets more aggressive in his tone and will start saying stuff like "fuck you" while stomping.
VISCERAL gameplay experience haha Man, when I was watching your Dead Space videos, they reminded me, why I love this series so dearly. And I'm almost in disbelief how good this game turned out (still have 2 chapters to go). Staying true to the original while sprinkling their own creativity into the remake - Motive did something special here.
Resident Evil 4 3rd person shooter mechanic inspired the making of Dead Space. Now both games have a remake this year and both the originals and remakes a great games...
Back when Dead Space came out I was too scared to try the series out. But now that I have much more survival horror experience I'm feeling brave enough to try and dive in with this entry
I wasn't entirely sure exactly what they could change to make it a better experience - the first one is still eminently great. But thanks for detailing all the improvements/changes in such detail, it makes it so that I know my purchase won't just be a graphical overhaul.

About Isaac’s “skillful waddle” if you’ve ever done some serious construction or home renovation, walking around with a fully loaded tool belt, painters pants, steel toed boots, ect. You will absolutely feel that “skillful waddle” when you move.
Yo, that's awesome. Not only cause we got a great game, and a Suzi vid on it, but also cause her vids where she talks enthusiastically about the given thing are even better watch. That enthusiasm is contagious, like marker influence
Love how she makes us feel like we all used to when we played the original games. Like a friend talking to us about the things we love. Keep making this awesome content, girl!
Awesome video, thanks for describing why DSR is now MY definitive experience as well. One aspect that you forgot to mention that wasn’t in the original is the new “Alive system,” which defines Issac’s heartbeat, breathing, and other emotional responses during moments of fighting and running from the horrors aboard the Ishimura, which also mirrored my emotions at those critical interactions. EA Motive really hit a Grand Slam with DSR!
The 'security clearance' change does sound pretty smart vs the old node system, and from your footage looks like some of the lighting concerns from their prior trailer releases got punched up and made more theatrical...as it should be! I'd like to see a side by side scene comparison video with the full version sometime, but this is some high praise given the source.
It’s a small thing; but I was hoping for, and am glad that they brought back the little hum that plays when you complete an objective! I can’t wait to see the dividers, twitchers, and hunter!!!
I'm so happy to see such positive reviews for this game. I was a bit nervous after The Callisto Protocol, but it looks like this game was in great hands. Awesome video as always, Suzi!
Why do people hate on the Callisto protocol anyway? It was a good little game with a well done story and they didnt force the male and female main characters to be romantic with eachother in any way. Had a a good bittersweet note at the end with how the main character felt about being an unwitting pawn, but still involved, in having caused bad things to happen. A solid B tier game. Nothing wrong with not being the next Hades.
@@bunnieskitties293 because it was touted as a successor to dead space and can't even lace up its boots. It was an okay game trying to emulate a great one and it falls flat in a lot of ways that make it a big disappointment.
I don’t think the heart beat is issac’s . There is either a text log or some in game dialog ( I forget which) that alludes to the heartbeat noise having to do with the marker . Which makes sense at least in my playthrough as a lot of times it would get really noticeable when I wasn’t in combat or wasn’t about to be in combat either .
I was so happy with how this game turned out! The original was one of the first games I ever bought and seeing it get a new lease on life is truly spectacular. Side note on the hanging woman: if you "cut" her down and leave and come back, she'll be right back in her hanging position with the damage you caused cutting her down still there. Don't know if it's a bug or not, but it's creepy as hell.
After the Callisto Protocol was... the Callisto Protocol, I'm so relieved that the DS remake is phenomenal, especially with how much of a pain it is getting the original to run properly on PC nowadays

EA has been absolutely horrible for as long as I’ve been a gamer. They don’t deserve anyone’s money at this point. This game looks fantastic and I’m excited to play it when I can find a used copy, but I’m honestly frustrated that so many people will buy it at launch and essentially reward EA for killing Visceral and many other studios. Like, they are one of the worst publishers around, predatory and exploitative in their business practices and abusive towards their employees. There’s a reason they win “most hated company in America” so often.
My only (small) gripe was changing how Nicole looked. I understand she looks like the voice actress now, but it's supposed to be a remake. So I wish Nicole looked the same as DS1 for the nostalgia.

Wouldn't turning the contact beam into a constant laser beam mean that it's not a railgun anymore? Isn't a railgun a projectile accelerated by magnets along the rail?
Dead Space 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games ever. Hearing this remake has the Suzi Seal of Approval means it's a Must Buy for me. I even loved the RE2 remake a bunch, but passed on RE3R because of everything I heard about cuts and weirdness with it. The fact that this keeps everything from the original but adds more to adjust the structure into being a continuous map of the ship with the tram as fast travel sounds excellent. I can't wait to pick this up. Thanks for the amazing video Suzi! Always love your work.
Personally, I didn’t play RE2 remake until after I played the RE3 one and it’s crazy so many people probably didn’t play it because of cut content and weirdness because both games are good even though some stuff is missing
Same here. I actually only picked up Resident Evil starting at 7, and I loved it. So I played 2 Remake and it’s one of my favorite games of all time now. Then I saw all of the reviews and it looked like capcom got lazy. Still haven’t played 3 Remake but I have it in my library.
3make get a lot of unjustified flack. The only thing is the cut of a few areas, but its a good game. It being called short is dumb because original re3 can be beat in like an hour. Also the harder difficulty options add a bunch of cool stuff like different enemies and routes. I love the original but 3make isn't something to ignore.
You summed up exactly how I feel about this remake. This is definitely the new standard for remakes. A labor of love. I'm currently plowing through my impossible run and I'm planning on replaying DS2 as soon as I'm finished. Hell maybe I'll even play the third if I can find someone to play with

Considering that they use their actual likenesses for the game works out for the characters in lore age.
Apart from Nicole looking more like the voice actress, it also helps having jer appear older considering she was literally the senior medical advisor aboard the Ishimura. The original design for Nicole looked like a recent college graduate, doesn't really make sense having someone that young in such a high up position that would require years of first hand experience
I legit had Isaac Clarke’s job back in November of 2021. This game helped to demonstrate how brave I was on the job. This game helped me cope with my past job. This remake was a dream come true for me. I’m a huge dead space fan and I was grinning from ear to ear during my entire playthrough and I can’t wait to dive into NG+.

Or kinda like Metroid Fusion!
