To be fair corny doesn't necessarily mean bad. Plenty of stories are corny, and cheesy, but still touching. I feel most of the flack engage gets is because of the tone shift from previous fire emblem games. The story is classic FE divine dragon vs dark dragon (or fell in the instance) But the best FE stories are generally more serious, and sometimes dark. As a big fan of the Radient duology, I can still enjoy Engage for its story, I don't have to compare it to a completely different story that I happened to like more Also the character designs which are dramatically more extravagant. Again non of which is bad on its own, it's just different, and alot of people don't like different.

I've heard a lot of people call this Game's story corny, but personally l was crying my eyes out during this ending ;~;
Anna reuniting with Anna and Anna made me tear up XD A fully grown adult crying at three of many identical sisters hugging it out.
