This video covers 2 daytime sessions at Hook and Warsash Nature Reserve (filmed on 3.11.20 and 5.12.20), fishing the lower part of the River Hamble, close to its mouth at Southampton Water. The first session resulted in catching a half decent bass and the second, plenty of schoolie bass.

Last time I took my fishing rod out, it was wicker point in portchester, so many bloody paddle boarders and kayakers who couldn't care a less about someone trying to fish, being jealous of them didn't help 😆 I'd love a fishing kayak, get your sea legs in the estuary and await a nice flat calm day to get out on the Solent, keep up the good work Rod!

Thanks Gary. Yes Galloways is a pretty hit and miss venue and its a pity you blanked; but at least the spider crabs aren't there at the moment! I'll have to re-upload my video that got deleted by accident! I've got one on Dungeness Point coming out soon - plenty of fish there; but not necessarily of the 'right kind'.

Thanks, you too! Sometimes its just about getting bites; but it only takes one decent fish to pull back and what could have been a poor session turns in to something that justifies the effort.

Both Southampton Water and the Thames Estuary are full of small bass, so you can normally rely on them for a few bites. Thanks for watching and commenting again Anthony.
hi nice vid have u ever tried estuary from river itchen downstream to cobden -northen bridge flatties go up to woodmill to spawn ive had many a 1 1/2 lb flatty from the wall oposite the itchen where it flows into estuary float fishing match gear 4lb line cast out then drag slowly back at intervals if you can get hold of a rowing boat great fishing down towards cobden bridge dragging a spoon from back carp gear 8 lb line cigar float .... really good sport to be had there .... as i say the flatties go up there to spawn so gets quite hectic at times colin

Well that cheered up an otherwise miserable day what with the weather and Lockdown 3. Talking of lockdown, Southend is about 10 / 12 miles away from me so I can't travel to sea fish. My regular coarse / trout venues are about 16 miles away so again I can't travel to fish. There is a coarse fishery about a mile from me (so within walking distance) but it is a club water and I'm not a member yet (planning on joining next season if they'll have me!) so no fishing there. Sadly it looks like I won't be fishing at all for the next 2 or 3 months at least. 😢 Watching your videos is the next best thing to actually getting out, so much appreciated. That bass during the first session was nice. I would have been pleased with that. A question if I may? Do you make up your rigs specifically for each session or do you make a batch of rigs every so often and just take what you need when you need? Another great video. Stay safe and stay healthy. Thanks once again Ken. I'm not sure if 'fishing local' has been defined / legally established yet. In Wales it's within walking or cycling distance; but, to my knowledge, in England there doesn't appear to be any official government statutory directive. As for rig making - that's all I've been doing since Xmas, as my elbow's been playing up and haven't been fishing! However, I hope to be going local in the few days.
I tend to make a dozen or so rigs now and again when otherwise laid up. I'd rather take far too many with me than lose the last of a pattern when fishing. Have replenished my big fish, loop and plaice rigs over the last week or so and recorded some tutorials which will feature in future videos, where and when relevant (loop rig in the next one).
Looking forward to your loop rig tutorial. As for travel, the Government guidance is "If you need to travel you should stay local - meaning avoiding travelling outside of your village, town or part of a city where you live..." Happy days..........not! Cheers. Ken
Thanks Ken. The guidelines then go on to say 'The list of reasons you can leave your home and area include..... [under bullet point 6] outdoor exercise. This should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel a short distance within your area to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)'. Maybe I should have said 'your area' hasn't been defined.

@@rodsangleuk6283 there is free parking with good access to chessel bay i had no success on a short lure session as I couldn't get ragworm, waders are advised as tide can push you tight to bank and under trees so will help with getting a nice cast using waders.

Thanks Will - I do all the filming and editing. Although it appears that someone is filming - I just move action cameras around a lot and fiddle about with the footage afterwards.

Another good video. Have you ever fished Portchester Castle for flounders? Or another good spot I used to fish was in the Fishbourne Channel near Chichester Marina.

Hi: Since you always seem to catch and release, do you pinch the barbs? Also, is that water salt, fresh or brackish? Thanks!
Hi Bob - when fishing for rays, I sometimes pinch down the barbs on my hooks; not otherwise, as I tend to use small hooks. A lot of the fish I catch are lip hooked, or just in to the mouth, so not too difficult to remove the hook without any damage done. Its not that often that I need to use disgorgers or pliers. A fiver's worth of rag is all that I need for one of my Southampton Water sessions. However, in late spring or summer, you'll need a lot more due to the high crab activity. Thanks for watching Reg.
