  • Two sessions (recorded 06.06.23 and 22.06.23) fished at The Buckle in Seaford (East Sussex, UK). I come here to fish for plaice. The first session was difficult, but a couple of decent plaice were taken; the second was quite hectic with numerous smaller plaice and summer dabs. Techniques, rigs, location etc. are covered.

    It's amazing how some other u tube anglers keep lobing huge baits on stiff old rods then complain they had no bites and crabs stole all there bait ! So watching these long supple rods with fine delicate rigs is an education . Thanks for demonstrating your technical approach to catching 🐟👍

      Great setup I was shown where the estuary I use to fish was riddled with crabs, flowing trace with a block of polystyrene elasticated about six inches from the bait just big enough for the bait to float off the bottom. Improved my catches no end.

      That's the way to get decent fish for the camera - but I prefer to catch whatever I can, so fish for bites.

      I do use floating beads sometimes, but not as often as I should.

      Thanks Michael - not that many decent sized plaice around this year, or have I just missed out on when they were about? Yes - if in size, I do normally take a couple.

    Nice couple of videos Michael, you looked like you were in your element catching all those flatties. Surprising how the size of the fish were so different. Although in the second video you were kept busy the whole time.

    2 good sessions, Michael, great to see some dabs. When will we see your visit to Widewater from last month ? It's getting harder to avoid the other beach user's at Shoreham now the ankle biters have broken up from school. It's only worth going early or late if the weather is decent. Still waiting for the goldies to turn up in numbers at Shoreham 🤞🎣🐟

      Yes - I'm fond of dabs, but not as much as soles! Working on Widewater vid now - had a setback with technical difficulties and losing footage - should be out this week!

    Very informative. Thank you. What's the best method for disgorging a small plaice safely? The disgorging tool i got from a tackle shop seems too big...

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have a range of larger coarse fishing disgorgers, pliers and forceps, which I employ; depending on hook size used and where it has lodged. Fishing with braid and hitting bites quickly normally results in fish being hooked in the mouth, so easier to deal with - but sometimes they are deep hooked and need disgorging. There is a technique where you can carefully disgorge through a gill cover; but that takes some practice.

      Most of my beach fishing is solo nowadays - spending time filming can be a bit anti-social. I prefer to go with others when pier fishing though.

    September last year was the first time I fished at Seaford ( to the right hand side of The Buckle) and I was surprised how productive the place was, I said to myself that I would come back but never have a chance since. Along that beach would you say Seaford Head West more productive for bass?? Can you fish on the reef on the left hand side? Thanks

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - my father used to fish Splash Point for bass and that would be where I'd go to target bass - though you can get them all along the front with a strong onshore wind, particularly at night.

      @@rodsangleuk6283 Thanks, last year the water was very clear, I went there first time with my friend just for fun, I thought the condition was not right for fishing and on top of that all my rags were dead the day before, the worst bait I ever took with me fishing. But to my surprise I caught about 4 bass and other fish. It made me realised the area was quite good for fishing. The problem is I live too far from that beach, 100
      miles away, the distance put me off.

    Hi Michael, recently finding Seaford a bit of a tough venue! What condition do you find favourable? Eg wind direction/ speed and state of tide? Thanks!

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For plaice - wind from behind and need clear water. If I have the time, I prefer to start about 2hrs before high tide and fish it almost all the way down. I do better on the ebb. Ideal conditions would be to fish after there has been 2 or 3 days of calm weather and sunset about 2 - 3 hrs in to the ebb - if you don't catch just after the top of the tide, you should as the light starts to fade. Good luck on your next trip.

      Not sure - I often stop off at Tools and Tackle in Newhaven to get bait on my way to Seaford.
