  • I try a venue closer to home and only 2 miles from where I live. With the long rods "K2's" i settle in for a mid summers evening on the shore. The weather looked a little unpredictable and so I set up my new Bigaloo for the first time.
    Rigs for the evening were up & overs baited with peeler crab and rag worm cocktails. It wasn't too long before the enquiries started.
    I have recently started using the Fenix HP30 R head torch. A full review will follow soon but here is a link along with other items I use.

    Hi Mark. I moved over from a fixed spool to a multiplier a couple of years ago and have never looked back. Once you get used to using one, you will love it. I must admit, I did feel nervous using one at the beginning, and I did birds nest a few times, but stick with it and your confidence will build up. A tip someone gave me, is when you arrive at your fishing mark, don't go trying to blast your bait out to the other side of the horizon straight away. The best thing is to have a couple of light to medium casts first to wet the line, this helps reduce the chance of birds nesting. Thanks for another informative video.

    We used to catch a number of Smoothounds in the stretch of water between Farley and Calshot , we used to take boat in there as it was quite sheltered from a SW . Boats gone now so we are back shore fishing , we had a smoothound about 2lb off Calshot by the life boat station last week ,this was our first trip there as we’ve just joined the association .

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have heard that Calshot does fish well and has a nice spread of species available and the benefit of deep water close in.
      Hamble and Warsash are good locations for hounds which continues on and through Meon and Lee on Solent.

    Hi Mark, recently subscribed and really enjoy your presentation and enthusiasm immensely. I only sea-fish (not really well I may add) but where I fish their is always a crab who is a bait robber !, I'v tried attaching wine corks and other methods while beach fishing but, I'm convinced crabs have ladders or scaffolding teams to hand !!, as they always steal my bait in minutes. Have you the Worldly answer on just how to stop our bait being taken by Crab Bandits ?.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is one of the aspects to sea angling that can’t be avoided. How long are you leaving your baits between checks? It can vary from 10 mins to an hour depending on bait and venue.

    Enjoyed the video, Mark, but one thing. Maybe just cut the crab in half straight away or stick a knife between the eyes to kill it before peeling. Just personal preference, but I prefer to be as humane as possible. In no way is this a criticism, just a possibility to think about for the future.

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are absolutely right and in my defence I very rarely use live peeler. I take your point.

    Once again Mark an enjoyable and informative video, I really am loving your channel. Again I know how busy you are, so getting stickers over to the US can wait until you have more time. One thing I need to ask though? With the giveaways (Fantastic BTW), are you getting the stuff from any sponsorship/promotions? Id hate to think your paying out your own pocket, and if you are, do you have any kind of little donation page, thing, where I could contribute??
    Oh! One more thing, how come you weren't using the Inova bait binder, just curious is all?

    • @seaangling
      @seaangling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A couple of questions to answer there.
      1. Your stickers are being sorted today, it is on my “to do” list.
      2. The give aways are funded by me personally, I do not have any sponsors.
      3. Sticker sales help towards give aways.
      4. I have managed to get refills for my Inova elastic holder so you’ll see that again in videos. 👍🏻

      George, I haven't really put the head torch through its paces yet and only used it on 2 short sessions. I believe the larger hounds will start to show further in in the next couple of weeks so i will be visiting the area a few more times. What time of year was your catch, which is very impressive? Happy to meet up if you are out and about.

      Barry Fox I quite like them as an intro into long rods. They are light, have nice fittings and have stood up to my abuse. I’ve caught everything from tiny flounder through to a 9lb+ hound. They come with 2 top sections, one of which is very soft. They can be found on offer very reasonable.
