    Lovely video as always. It was good to see Milford shingle Bank. I haven't fished it since the mid to late 60's. Its changed so much, in look and fish that can be caught.

    Superb video. Lots to see,and especially float fishing. I like how you are so careful with your catches and return them fresh rather than some who mess about measuring,weighing photographing, the fish are almost dead. Really great to have your vids to look forward to in these lockdown days. Thank you for sharing.

      Sounds a good ploy to try; though most of my undulates have been caught by mistake fishing for bream - often on the smallest, top hook with a single or double squid tentacle.

    Great video Rod, once again with great visual camera lens effects. A good couple of sessions with plenty of fish to keep you enthused. I noticed that you often use a finger stall when casting. I recently bought a Breakaway cannon casting aid. Not sure if you've seen one or heard of them, I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but reading the reviews, you can get a lot more distance in your cast with it, and it eliminates the need for a skin graft on your finger at the end of a session (LOL), and you can do away with the finger stall. You can get them from most angling shops or online. There are also some TH-cam videos demonstrating how they work. Thanks for sharing the video, look forward to the next one.👌👍.

    I fish the surf beaches out in Oz now, we have a similar weed problem with big strands of kelp. You just have to walk backwards up the beach until you have the fish in, then deal with the weed. Another good spot, miss the variety from the shingle beaches.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes its a pain fishing where there's a lot of weed, but if there's plenty of fish there, we can put up with that. Thanks for watching and commenting Derek.

    Thanks for these videos. I have found them all excellent and filled with great tips. I'm jealous of the bream marks that you have access to. Here on the east coast of Ireland bream isn't a common species unfortunately

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you like them and thanks for commenting Colin! I'd rather target bream, than fish for bass - they are rarely caught in Essex, so have to travel for them.

  • @LouieRC
    @LouieRC 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there,
    I've been watching a few of your videos. They're really informative and enjoyable to watch.
    Me and my dad started going fishing again the last few months and we simply are having terrible luck. We've been to dungeness, Hythe (exactly where you fished) and also hastings. We kept catching whiting that were just stealing the bait annoyinly so we decided to try a pennel rig using lug, squid and sand eel and just don't seem to be getting anything from it other than whiting. Do you have any suggestions at all for where we may be going wrong or is it just chance on where the fish are on the day?
    My last question is what locations have you found the most consistent for catching decent sized fish? I've always known it to be dungeness but im unaware of things could've potentially changed over the years.
    Thank you for reading and all the best,
    Louie

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First of all thanks for watching and commenting Louie. I sympathise! Whiting virtually everywhere at this time of the year. I only specifically target big fish at certain times of the year; rest of the time hoping that one or two may come along whilst fishing for whatever may be there - that way I'm not too disappointed too often! Dungeness has plenty of fish, but has declined - more likely to catch a decent bass, than codling there now; plenty of sizeable dog fish though!
      For fairly consistent big fish sport, you'll generally need to go to somewhere like the Bristol Channel! However, I will sometimes target rays late February to April in the SE - usually on Sheppey, but are around in many areas; smooth hounds in late May / June - several venues in the SE can produce these, notably Reculver / Minis Bay; codling from December, generally through to about March (though not usually in the SE - too hit and miss now); for decent bass you're best looking for somewhere where they'll go for livebaits - again this is hit or miss, so to avoid blanks, have one rod fishing for whatever's there, even if that has to be whiting!

    Great video can't wait until next one, would love to fish this mark one day. I'm on the west coast of Scotland and the fishing this year is the worst I can remember!
    I fished a beach in Deal in july and could not keep up with fish and had to put one rod away...lol..
    Then back home blanked every time,need to move south I think.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes @buff7664 - plenty of action in the Deal area and likewise, I switch to just using one rod (next video is from Kingsdown not far from Deal). Hope you start getting them in your area soon!

    Bit delayed watching last week's video but there's a silver lining...I now get to watch two videos in fairly quick succession! A couple of excellent sessions and a fantastic, and relaxing, video as always. I have never tried float fishing from the beach (or feathering for mackerel from the beach come to that)...going to have to give both techniques a go when time and circumstances permit. I assume Lockdown MkII will curtail your activities somewhat? Stay safe. Cheers. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome back Ken and thanks again for watching and commenting! Fishing is still currently permitted (as of 8.11.20), so I shall keep going - will be more local than usual though; however I have plenty of videos from more distant venues still to put out- which are scheduled for well in to December. Four weeks passes quickly, when you're editing a lot of the time and I have to catch up on rig tying, not to mention domestic duties!

  • @jerryoconnor309
    @jerryoconnor309 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very enjoyable as always Rod! Love your videos because they are so easy on the eye. They are relaxing just like fishing should be. They were fine sized garish you were catching on the float rig. I use 15lb mono when shore fishing with a shock leader suitable to the weight I use What breaking strain braid should I use instead of this? And will the run of the mill shock leader knot do when attaching mono to braid? Look forward to your next video, tight lines.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your support and kind words Jerry. I go for 20lb for general beach fishing, 30lb if just targeting large fish, or fishing over mixed ground and where weed is an issue. I occasionally go to 50lb when needed (sometimes straight through) and 10-15lb for light lure work. Don't use too thick a line for shock leaders with fine braid, otherwise you'll have plenty of wind knots to contend with; consider tapererd leaders, but I don't seem to get on with them. There are plenty of braid to mono knots to try, but a simple double-uni does me. If of any use, I demonstrate this in my White Horses video. Good luck and thanks for watching.
